    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Jun 04, 2019

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 01:08 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

Musk says Tesla's pickup will cost under $50,000 and be better than the F-150

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 02:14 AM PDT

    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/06/03/business/musk-tesla-pickup-price/index.html

Tesla's soon-to-be-unveiled pickup truck will have a starting price of less than $50,000, it will be a better truck than a Ford F-150 and it will outperform a Porsche 911, according to CEO Elon Musk

That price would undercut the trucks that electric truck maker Rivian plans to offer next year. The starting price of those trucks is expected to be just under $70,000. Ford is investing $500 million in Rivian and Amazon led a group of investors putting $700 million into the Michigan-based company.

"This will be a better truck than an F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality," Musk said, "and be a better sports car than a standard 911. That's the aspiration."

    The premature rally

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 12:34 PM PDT

Am I the only one who's confused about the reasons behind today's rally? Just because the Fed essentially states the obvious by saying they won't let the economy crash, the Dow is up almost 2%. Trade tensions aren't any better, the US and China are still at each other's throats.

Honestly, what's the point of buying right now?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 07:04 PM PDT

Trade War with China is not looking like it is going to be resolved soon, now the U.S threw garbage at their neighbors in the south.

All these regulatory issues with FAANG stocks. I don't think buying stock this year until all this goes away. I only see negative press all around.

    When Will this Mega-Rally End?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 09:33 AM PDT

The tariffs figuratively just started. Have we all stopped cursing Trump and his quest to lower interest rates?

If we were supposed to buy the dip yesterday, then the implication is that we are to never let news, specifically headline news, affect our investments. News only lasts one day. Then it's Olds. /dadjoke

Aeroponics exposure that isn’t primarily weed stocks?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 10:07 AM PDT

I've been trying to find companies heavily invested in Aeroponic farming tech but am coming up short. Most companies seem to be weed stocks. Fujitsu seems to have taken an interest but I'm not sure they're a good growth play.

As an unaccredited investor, how can I find out if a company offers secondaries?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 02:55 AM PDT

My initial idea was to check a website like 'EquityZen', but you have to be a SEC accredited investor to set-up a profile there.

Does anyone have any other ideas how I can check this?

How does "breaking up a company" works?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 06:36 AM PDT

I keep seeing these talks of "breaking up Facebook", "breaking up Alphabet" etc. How would it exactly work? Who would be new CEOs? Who would make decisions? Aren't Alphabet already broken up (Waymo, Google Search, Verily etc)? Facebook (Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram)? I don't get it. It just sounds like absolute unimportant noise that doesn't make sense at all to get some votes.

And if they are split into multiple companies, wouldn't they still continue doing the same thing? Like sharing user data between each other etc.

Company Acquisition - Tender Offer Lower Than Market Price

    Posted: 04 Jun 2019 12:08 AM PDT

    Good day,

I have been given a tender offer which is way lower than the current market price. These two public companies (PPG & PHEN) are being acquired by a power unit (AC Energy Inc.) of a big company, Ayala Group. This is in the Philippines.

What is the best course of action here?

    Thoughts on iQIYI Inc?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 06:08 PM PDT

I've been following this stock for a while and it seems to be ebbing and flowing this past year. They are poised as the "Netflix of China" but growing at a much faster rate - and I am wonder if this is what it would be like getting in a Netflix at 18$ a share. Thinking of investing a in 100 shares. From what I read, it isn't the tariffs that have affected the streaming service itself, but rather outside companies haven't been investing in as much content because of them, so once that content issue is solved, it will go back up.

Any options trader looking at FB, GOOGL and SPY?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 10:55 PM PDT

First two antitrust and SPY starting to have a melt down. I personally think, based on TA, FB and GOOGL would possibly have a slight recovery but ultimately drop for the next couple days. Currently I see the price levels being oversold; though it can produce false signals. SPY would decline because trade deal isn't looking so good, esp. China becoming more aggressive. My speculation is IF another correction is due, I wouldn't expect SPY to drop further than 250; I would consider this level to be the maximum. I don't think the trade deal is big of an issue that's going to be the reason for greater correction (where people target SP500 to drop insane amount like 15%, 25%, even 40%). In economic standpoint, trade deal has the potential for massive drop, but I just don't see that the deal with China is gonna be SO BAD that it'll cause a massive selloff. If fed raise another rate, on top of this deal going completely shit (which it might) then that would ideally be it. I would appreciate any opinions and outlook. Thanks in advance!!!
