    Hi r/StockMarket!

This is a re-post to the thread that I had up a few months back. It appears the invite link to our Discord server somehow became invalid.

No worries, I have setup a new invite link and set that to never expire, so we should be good now.

Well, with the new trading week, month and quarter ahead of us, I figured I might as well throw up brand new post for our live chat.

If you are looking to hang with a group of active traders & investors discussing the stock market, feel free to drop in on our official Discord server. It's completely free, and signing up to join is incredibly easy.

To get to our official Discord server, click on the invite link which I have linked for you all down below here-

[CLICK HERE FOR OUR OFFICIAL DISCORD SERVER INVITE LINK!]

Registering your user handle should take no more than a few minutes. You'll just need a valid e-mail address to verify your Discord account and that's pretty much it, you'll be in and ready to chat with the rest of us!

You can either run Discord via your web browser, or you can download the Discord application to have it running in the background of your PC. There are also mobile apps you can use, for example here's the one for the iOS.

Our Discord server comes complete with charting bots as well.

For those of you who are be completely new to Discord and are wondering ... "bots!?"

Yes, we have bots that can posts charts and other useful market information into the channels on executing commands.

Almost all of the bots that you'll see on our server have been coded up from scratch from yours truly. :P and I have them hosted right from my local server at home.

Anyway, unlike our last thread I did, I won't post up the full list of bot commands in this thread as it is quite extensive. I've posted the full list of commands right into our Discord server under the channel named #bot_commands which you can find on the left sidebar of the chat at the top underneath the WELCOME group.

You can also have the bot DM (direct message) you the full list by typing in !help into any of the channels as well.

Again, if you are looking for our invite link to our server here it is:

The link can also be found on our right sidebar here on r/StockMarket.

I hope all of you who regularly participate in the discussions on this sub daily, will be able to join us in our live chat as well. Lots of great discussions going on in there everyday!

Oh, and I should mention this in here as well, but our Discord server has had quite the makeover since our early years, and there are a lot more topics to choose from outside of just our main #general_live_chat room.

To see our full channel line-up, simply hit up the #server_info channel on the left sidebar at the top under the WELCOME channel group.

Finally, don't forget to pay a visit to the #rules_guidelines channel. While do allow for some off-topic chatter in our main #general_live_chat channel (especially on the weekends), that does not necessarily make the channel a free for all if you will. We are still very much a trading/investing group only, but we understand that there are valid cases to be made for discussing off-topic discussions such politics, trade wars, and other market sensitive topics that can impact the markets. The #general_live_chat is a bit more looser than our other topic-specific channels which will be enforced to stay on topic.

Anyway, I'll leave you all to it.

Hope to see you all on the chat soon!

Crypto pioneer pays US$4.57M for lunch with Warren Buffett

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 12:06 PM PDT

Cryptocurrency pioneer Justin Sun bid a record US$4.57 million to have lunch with Warren Buffett, who famously referred to Bitcoin as "probably rat poison squared."

Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

Sun launched Tronix, also known as Tron or TRX token, in 2017. It's valued at US$2.56 billion and is the 10th largest cryptocurrency in the world, according to data provider CoinMarketCap.com. The 28-year-old Chinese entrepreneur said he hopes to educate the Oracle of Omaha on cryptocurrency and the underlying technology, called blockchain.

"It is very common in investment circles that people will change their minds," Sun said in a telephone interview. "Investment opportunities are best when lots of people are underestimating the technology."

Buffett and his longtime business partner Charles Munger have criticized cryptocurrencies in the past. The 95-year-old Munger called Bitcoin a "noxious poison." Buffett, who says there's no value being produced from the asset, at least gave a nod to blockchain technology as "important" in an interview with CNBC earlier this year.

"Even one of the most successful investors of all times can sometimes miss a coming wave," Sun wrote in an open letter to the crypto community. "Buffett has admitted he overpaid for big investment food giant Kraft Heinz Co., while failing to realize the potential of the likes of Amazon.com Inc.; Alphabet, the parent of Google; and even Apple."

    Glide Charity

The annual auction raises money for San Francisco-based charity Glide, which Buffett's late wife Susan supported. More than US$30 million has been raised over the years, as bid amounts have climbed. Glide provides meals for the city's homeless, offers support to domestic violence victims, and helps people find shelter.

Previous auction winners have included Greenlight Capital's David Einhorn, who was the highest bidder in 2003. Ted Weschler won two auctions and was later hired by Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRKa.N) as an investing deputy. This year's bid was about 38% higher than the winning bid in 2018.

Sun previously founded Peiwo, a Snapchat-like app for China with millions of users. He then started the token popularly known as Tron by using much of Ethereum's computer code and parts of other startups' white papers to write his own.

He bought the popular software file-sharing application BitTorrent for US$120 million last year. Demand for the coin surged when Sun announced the BTT token, able to run on both Tron and BitTorrent networks. On May 30, BitTorrent announced it will let users store files across a distributed network of computers using BTT.

Tron, meanwhile, has attracted scores of gaming and gambling applications. Earlier this year, Tron bought app store CoinPlay.

The bidding war for the lunch started May 26. It heated up early in the week and fell fairly quiet heading into the final day of the auction when a handful of bids came in that exceeded US$4 million.

Although he's deep into crypto, Sun said he trades traditional stocks and reads annual reports of technology companies. He hopes to learn more about Buffett's value-investment strategy at the luncheon.

The time and place of the luncheon has yet to be determined, according to Sun. It's typically held at the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in New York.

Sun, who can invite as many as seven people to join him, said he'll choose among his most-persuasive friends as well as the most influential people in the crypto community as it's likely to be a tough sell to get the 88-year-old billionaire investor to change his mind.

"Cryptocurrencies will come to bad endings," Buffett said in 2018 at his annual shareholder meeting.

    Is this what is happening?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 04:39 PM PDT

April 30th - Trump calls on the federal reserve to lower interest rates to which they refuse.

    May 3rd - Markets peak to ATH's.

May 5th - Donald starts tweeting threats about tariffs on China.

    May 5th - 29th market goes down.

May 30th - rather than ease tensions tariffs are announced on Mexico... market declines further.

June 2nd - the market is calling for 2 interest rate cuts in 2019...... Trump 1 - 0 Federal Reserve

This happened when the market was well overdue a correction. Not his biggest fan but playing the cards he has with the knowledge the market should be correcting anyway could be a stroke of genius.

Wait for the correction and completely expose yourself or play hardball with the knowledge that the markets would dip anyway.

I'm still seeing this as a band aid though. Too many high value companies are not turning a profit. They rely on the performance of investments to turn a form of profit alongside their early stage earnings. Now we're a month into investment losses. This should clearly reflect in the next quarter earnings when these companies running P/E's of 293 post losses from investments and slow(if any) growth in earnings.

An interest rate reduction might provide the rebound that creates a fantastic entry point to a short on anything on the market. It's only downhill from here.

This "flexing" damages future trade relations and the long term health of the markets.

Today's Top Headlines for Monday, June 3rd, 2019

    • It's a new month for Wall Street, but so far it appears it will begin the same way the old one ended — with losses. The Dow has now fallen for six consecutive weeks for the first time in eight years, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq have posted four straight weekly declines, as ongoing tariff tensions with China and now Mexico as well as U.S. economic uncertainty loom. (CNBC)
    • Market drop in May felt serious, but it is normal for stocks (CNBC)
    • The Dow's Friday close was its lowest since Jan. 29, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at their lowest since March 8. And although the Nasdaq is still up more than 12% for the year, it is moving closer to correction with a nearly 9% decline from its May 3 record closing high. (CNBC)
    • Goldman Sachs (GS) sees increased risks of escalations of U.S. trade disputeswith China and Mexico. There is now a 60% chance of the U.S. placing a new 10% tariff on the final $300 billion of Chinese imports. There is now a 70% chance of Trump imposing 5% duties on Mexican goods and a 50% chance that goes to 10%. (CNBC)
    • US-China trade deal isn't likely at the G-20 summit this month, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley say (CNBC)
    • Morgan Stanley sees global recession 'in three quarters' if Trump escalates trade war (CNBC)
    • Top officials from the U.S. and Mexico are set to begin talks today over tariffs and border safety. "Mexico is sending a big delegation to talk about the Border," the president tweeted. "Problem is, they've been 'talking' for 25 years. We want action, not talk." (AP)
    • On the economic calendar, at 10 a.m. ET, both the May ISM manufacturing index and April construction spending are out. Some of the nation's automakers issue May sales today, although Ford (F) and GM (GM) only report on a quarterly basis. There are no major earnings this morning. Box (BOX) releases its quarterly number after today's closing bell.
    • President Donald Trump arrived for his first state visit to Britain today. Cracks are starting to appear in the transatlantic relationship, with political analysts concerned that his "off-the-cuff" and "impulsive" leadership style could make matters worse over the coming days. (CNBC)
    • Trump calls London Mayor Sadiq Khan a 'stone cold loser' (CNBC)
    • Everything you need to know about Trump's state visit (CNBC)
    • Trump tweeted that White House Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett will "shortly" leave his post, but did not provide a reason. It's unclear who's set to takeover, in a time of drama between the U.S., China and Mexico. (Reuters)
    • Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the White House's Mideast peace plan is possibly "unexecutable" and might not "gain traction," according to an audio recording of the private meeting obtained by The Washington Post.
    • Trump administration says it will negotiate with Iran with 'no preconditions'(NY Times)
    • More than 300 Boeing (BA) 737 jets, including the Max, may have faulty wing parts that don't meet strength and durability standards, the FAA said, following a joint investigation with the aircraft manufacturer. The agency plans to order airlines to remove and replace the parts if their aircraft are affected. (CNBC)

    • Apple (AAPL) is expected to launch the latest version of iOS, its software for the iPhone and iPad, today at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The company has launched a new version of its iPhone software at WWDC every year since 2009, and analysts and reports don't expect this year to be any different. (CNBC)
    • Facebook (FB) has been in contact with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission about rolling out a digital currency, according to the Financial Times.
    • SoftBank's bid to raise a $100 billion fund is off to a rocky start, the Wall Street Journal reports. Some of the world's biggest money managers plan to make limited or no contributions to the Japanese technology giant.

    Bond yields and fed

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 09:34 AM PDT

    Good afternoon,

I am wondering if the market in general is betting on a rate cut from the fed, due to the fact that bond prices have been climbing. If the fed were to not lower rates even though the market was expecting it, what would happen to bond yields and the overall market.

    Thanks.

    3 Dividend Stocks for 2019

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 11:24 PM PDT

Hey guys! I know we all love dividend stocks, and I've been buying 3 dividend stocks lately:

    1. Abbvie (ABBV) Stock
    2. AT&T (T) Stock
    3. Leggett and Platt Stock

Abbvie is extremely undervalued and has many drugs that could potentially be huge hits, including Riza and Upa. They offer a massive dividend which is the second highest dividend on the dividend aristocrat list. To top it off, they have no market in Mexico or China, so there will be no impact from the US-China trade war, and of course US-Mexico tariffs. Abbvie's dividend yield is currently at 5.58% annually.

AT&T is also very undervalued compared to other telecommunications stocks and is working on bringing down its debt. It will be a huge 5G player in the future and also offers a massive dividend yield of 6.39% annually. This places AT&T as the highest dividend payer in the dividend aristocrat group.

Leggett and Platt is a boring, but steady and undervalued stock that sells housing, automotive, and aerospace materials. It offers a nice dividend yield of 4.51% annually and has recently gone on a discount that has caused me to start a small position in it.

I created a video that goes over these stocks in depth, so if you guys want some further explanation here it is: 3 Dividend Stocks for 2019
