Posted: 16 Jun 2019 03:53 AM PDT So long story short co-worker complained about something I said. Which I didn't say in the slightest but because of what was "heard" by co-worker it's considered sexual harassment. Of course I have no idea who heard this what day it was or anything because they want to "protect" said co-worker. Anyway my manager told me the story which sounds very unlike me to say in public and at work as well. Just wondering if I should wait it out after told my side of the story. [link] [comments] |
Arrived to where I was living with most of my stuff on the ground outside and the locks changed. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:08 AM PDT Last night when I arrived after work around 22:00 (Texas), I discovered most of my belongings on the ground outside the place I was staying. I had rented a room from a Craigslist ad 3 weeks ago, I signed a six month lease. I say most of my stuff because the desktop computer I was using for YouTube and $510 cash are missing. I was allowed inside after the police arrived to look at the room, I was able to get my medication (testosterone a controlled substance). I have the incident number for theft that I'll be calling about on Monday, is my legal recourse here small claims court? I withdrew $500 on Friday to pay my rent for the following month, that's gone. The desktop computer I was using was an HP Omen 870-244 (i7 7700, GTX 1070, 16gb ram, 500gb Samsung 960 Evo) was about $1,200 new in 2017 and I added the ssd for about $250. The police told me I was scammed, they spoken to a neighbor and apparently this isn't the first time this has happened. I'm a disabled Marine Corps veteran at 70%, my friend from Okinawa picked me up last night I'm currently at his apartment as I figure out what to do next. Is small claims court my only go to and even if I win is there any enforcement of the judgement? Edit: I'm a legal gun owner and my AR15 and Mossberg 590a1 was just laying outside in a towel. Anybody could have just grabbed it and committed unfathomable crimes while I wasn't there. [link] [comments] |
Business encroaching in to neighborhood Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:39 AM PDT A local Tampa, Florida business that fronts a major road (zoned commercial) bought the house behind it (zoned residential) This home is in our neighborhood. They tore down the house and bulldozed the land to gravel lot. Then the business start parking a dozen employee cars, fleet vehicles and loading construction equipment and trailers on the residential property. Code enforcement sited the property for commercial use on residential zoned land. They withheld adjudication of violations because the property owner after being notified of the violations attempted to rezone the land commercial. Our neighborhood came out in force during the rezoning process and we presented facts and evidence based on the how the land was being used currently for employee parking and commercial loading and how this was not conducive with our neighborhoods cander. We have been negatively impacted by the illegal use of this property with respect to neighborhood traffic and our property values. Our neighborhood requested the city council deny the request for rezoning. The city council denied the property owners request to rezone the land. Since the rezoning the was denied adjudication of the zoning violations of commercial use on residential zoned land could move forward. The business owner was found guilty of the zoning violations and given 4 months to correct the issue. During the 4 months the business owner was given to correct the violations, the business owner sued the city. He partitioned the court that his civil rights had been violated for not being able to rezone the property. The court deigned the business owner's partition that his civil rights infringed and agreed that city had a right to deny the rezoning request based on the evidence that neighborhood presented to the city council during the rezoning process. This case took over 9 months. During the civil suite the city did not enforce the zoning violations for fear of if the out come was not in their favor. The business owner still loads trucks and trailers on this land daily to this day. how ever he has moved employee parking from the lot to our neighborhood. now about about 30 employee vehicles and fleet vans are now parking on street in our neighborhood. I believe that the business owner is tempting to fill our neighborhood in an tempt to extract revenge and force the neighborhood in to giving his bigness the rezoning. Also zoning ordnance state the following about commercial vehicles in neighborhoods:
The key words here are "Temporary" and "commercial use on the same residential lot" Weather Tite Windows is not working on a residential lot during the parking of their employees cars and work fleet vehicles in our neighborhood and the parking is not temporary as it's been ongoing for 7 months Meanwhile the city has not enforced the violation. The process has taken over 2 years. The cander of our neighborhood has been damaged along with our property values, the land is still being used commercially and our neighborhood is filled with commercial traffic. We have beaten the business owner 3 times.
Were always on the high ground but ... I feel like resident should have a right to protect their property and reliably rely on the zoning codes in place which I feel has not happend. Is it time for our neighborhood to legal-up since the process isn't working for us? Where do we go from here? [link] [comments] |
[IL] [Mechanic] exploded my A/C, then tried to cover it up. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:29 AM PDT [Mechanic] = vehicle service center for a well-known brand name. Last week, I took my car to [Mechanic] for an A/C recharge as it was blowing warm. Car is two years old, 20,000 miles, no damage, no accidents, no issues. I'm the first owner. An hour into the appointment, a tech comes out and tells me there's a leak somewhere in the system but he can't locate where. Says a line might have rubbed against the frame. Says because the car is under 36,000 miles, the warranty should cover it. Says to take it to [Dealership] and they oughta fix it for free. I thank him profusely, leave, call up [Dealership], set up an appointment, repeat exactly what [Mechanic] told me. Yesterday, I take the car in and 25 minutes into the appointment, the manager comes out to ask me what the hell happened. Apparently, the [Dealership] tech working on my car came to ask the manager to run a carfax report but the car came back clean. I know and understand nothing about cars but essentially, [Mechanic] hadn't put back the filter, a line was blown at both ends, there was dye everywhere, an aluminum pipe (under a protective plastic cover) was bent as though someone tried to yank on it, etc. The manager took pictures and explained it would essentially be his word against [Mechanic]'s. What do I do? Who do I speak to?
(*I am not trying to get anyone fired. Mistakes happen. But transparency and accountability are important, especially when the mistake is thousands of dollars of damage insurance and warranties won't cover.) [link] [comments] |
[NY] Allstate trying to cancel my coverage after being involved in a hit and run. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 10:14 AM PDT I have two vehicles, one is a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the other is a brand new Nissan that I just leased starting last month. I opened up insurance with Allstate on 5/19/19, contacted my insurance broker and asked them what documents/inspections they need. My broker stated that I needed a Carco photo inspection on my Jeep 2018. I asked her if they needed anything for my 2019 Nissan, she stated that since it is a brand new vehicle (Was leased 05/19/19), that all I needed was a photo of the window sticker and lease agreement. I provided all of that information the same day that it was asked. On 5/24/19, the Nissan was involved in a hit and run on a street with NYC CCTV cameras capturing the accident, NYPD was contacted and is investigating the accident to find the other driver. I called All State the same day the accident occurred to file a claim. Here is where the issue starts: Starting on 6/10 I was contacted by a different agent from my broker's office stating that they needed a Carco photo inspection on the Nissan. I stated to this new agent that the vehicle was involved in an accident and asked for their advice on what to do, she would intentionally ignore my question and repeat that it needs to be inspected by 07/03/19 or collision coverage would be suspended. On 6/14/19 (Friday), I received an email from this new broker stating that my collision coverage is suspended effective 06/14/19, since I did not do a Carco inspection on the Nissan. Does this mean that Allstate will not cover the accident that occurred 05/19? I tried to contact their office but since it is a weekend, they are closed. Tldr; New leased vehicle did not require an inspection per agent's instructions, when it was involved in an accident a week later, agent said the vehicle required and inspection then suspend id coverage shortly thereafter. Does this mean that Allstate will not cover the accident that occurred with the vehicle on 05/24/19? [link] [comments] |

Neighbor Moved Into Our Mailbox Posted: 15 Jun 2019 05:06 PM PDT Bought a house in WV about 6 months ago. Remodeled and moved in this month. Previous owner left a nice custom made mailbox that we've been getting our mail in. This morning on the way to work seen that neighbors have painted over our address and put their own name and address on our mailbox. Again, this is 6 months after we bought the house and had been there nearly every day remodeling and had already been receiving our mail there. Earlier today my wife left a note inside the mailbox informing the neighbors that the mailbox belongs to us. I just checked inside the mailbox again. There is a note from the neighbors saying they bought it off the former owner for $75 because he didn't have time to get it. The mailbox was not listed as an exclusion when we bought the house. I doubt they paid the previous owner anything for the mailbox. He's in jail and the house is a foreclosure property. We are not in the least bit interested in encouraging the previous owner to communicate with us. He had done extensive damage to the property, and I have no desire to come into contact with him in any way. What's next? Is the former owner going to sell them the garage too? Is what they are doing legal? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:01 AM PDT So I live in Georgia and I just broke up with my boyfriend and he wants some gifts back that he gave me. One is the laptop he got me 2 months ago and the other be an xbox one he got me as a " late birthday present." The laptop hes still paying monthly payments on but I am more than willing to take the payments over or write an agreement that I'll pay him the money for that every month. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:45 AM PDT Any help is appreciated! Especially if you've been through a similar thing. Current situation:
The owner is now aggressively demanding I pay last month's rent which I did already pay. When I moved in, the owner unexpectedly told me I would need to pay last month's rent and a security deposit, none of which was mentioned earlier. There is no email history or written proof of this. She chose not to sign the sheet - something kind of out of my control. Recommendations?? I don't want it to come to the last month and she throws my stuff out on the street. [link] [comments] |
I was stopped while walking and ticketed by officers from a different town. Was the stop legal? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:08 AM PDT I live in North Carolina and was stopped after walking a friend home after a night of drinking. The officers who stopped and charged me were from a different town from where I was and where I live. They also said they stopped me because of a reported car break in, which there seems to be no record of. Some of my peers told me the stop was illegal. So I'm just wondering whether the stop was legal or illegal. [link] [comments] |
Can an 18 year old be friends with a 15 year old? Posted: 15 Jun 2019 11:58 PM PDT I'm from Georgia, USA. Super weird question but I've been put in a very uncomfortable position. I met this girl in one of my online classes and we started talking on discord. Incredibly bright and talented girl, skipped 2 grades, incredible writer, was a junior at 15. We talked a lot and I asked her to help me out with some of my college essays and she did. I paid it forward and helped her out with summer program essays and I'll help her out with her college process/essays. We've even met at a mutual friend's graduation party. Honestly, I think of myself as her mentor and friend and nothing more. She often comes to me for advice on topics from college, to relationships to just life in general. However, we may talk too frequently, if that's possible. Every discord voice call, she's the one that initiates it (I've probably initiated 10 calls in total over our friendship), and she's called close to every day for the last few months and I usually pick up because I'm almost always on my computer. We talk about college stuff, debate about controversial issues, and even talk about regular highschool things like crushes and stuff. I honestly enjoy talking to her but I think I'm treading on thin ice. Seeing false accusations ruin people's lives/careers, I feel like this friendship is very risky. Add to that, our justice system making it so all the blame would be put on me if anything goes wrong makes me scared of continuing to talk to her. She sometimes sends me memes from weird subreddits that I'm not really comfortable with and I tell her to stop in the nicest way possible. I'm not sure if I could get into trouble for her sending me memes? Seeing that I'll be going to the college next semester, would it be wise to continue this mentor/friendship or should I end it for the sake of my own future? Do I have anything to be afraid of? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:43 AM PDT Title. The (now expired) license was in effect for a year but I only worked for about a month before moving on with my life. I really don't want any checkered past to come up after I graduate. The license number and "nude entertainment business" as well as my first and last name are on the front page of google when I search. Also if anyone wants to google me (family, friends) boom. Not cool and not happy about it. Does this have to be public record? Edit: it's actually on the second page of google when I go on my laptop. Maybe I need to talk to people about how much digging may be done. [link] [comments] |
Boss found out through customer that I have a medical marijuana card. (Oklahoma) Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:26 AM PDT One of our clients has been trying to get me to go to work with their company. I had trouble coming up with a reason for not wanting to (big client and I didn't want to piss them off) and I let it slip that because I had a medical card, I probably couldn't get a job with them anyways. Well, for whatever reason, this client told my boss about me having a card. My boss told me the next day that we will be having a sit down next Wednesday about what happened. This could potentially involve my district manager, but I'm unsure. How do I prepare? Our company has never drug tested me and I've been here for 7 years. I have never shown up to work high and I only do thc a few times a month for anxiety. I have never been written up and have never had a workplace accident of any kind. As far as I know, I am well liked in the company. [link] [comments] |
17yr old, no records of any Cryptocurrency trades, made a lot of money and lost a lot. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 05:19 AM PDT Like in England/UK. I was given $70 in cryptocurrencies ( Bitcoin etc ) by a friend as a gift a few years ago. I then got addicted to it and brought my portfolio all the way up to around $42,000 during the bull run and my portfolio now sits at $10,000. I never converted any of it to an actual currencies. It's been in crypto the whole time. I didn't pay taxes at all. I had and still have no idea how taxes work. No one even knows I have cryptocurrencies. I have some trade records but barely any. I don't want to hire someone to look at my situation as I have no money and I'm not dealing with a lot of money anyway. I can't withdraw any money from crypto as all exchanges require you being 18. How will they go about deciding how much I owe them? [link] [comments] |
Getting rid of illegal objects. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 11:04 AM PDT So I recently found one of my (now dead, if that would alter it somehow) dad's knives is illegal to own in Pennsylvania. I was wondering if anyone here knew how I could safely and legally get rid of it? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:10 AM PDT Hi folks, when I received my learners permit in the state of Georgia, I realized that my sex was marked as F when I am Male. I didn't notice until I got my physical copy, so I just didn't do anything about it. That was around 7 years ago. I never had any reason to change it, I was able to get a passport, etc. However, I just recently attempted to buy a firearm and due to discrepancies from my license and the information I logged, I was unable to make the purchase. It was pretty embarrassing and now I am determined to fix my license. So, when the DMV opens up on Tuesday, I plan on bringing my current license and my birth certificate and trying to get this issue sorted out. I didn't undergo sex change surgery or have any sort of doctor's note. It was just a typo that I never fixed. Is this going to cause issues at the DMV? Thanks a lot guys. [link] [comments] |
I'm a contractor - my employer has offered me a contact with no way to break it Posted: 16 Jun 2019 10:51 AM PDT Location: Washington DC I am an independent contractor, and I have been offered a contact to work for a small business for a period of several months, with the 1st month as a 'trial period'. I am concerned that there is no clause for me to break this contract for a genuine emergency, such as a death in my immediate family. I wouldn't want to leave, but if I had to break it, or at least try and leave for a time and then come back, then I may then be on the hook for remedies. The 2 clauses that concern this are here: TERMINATION OF CONTRACT . Either party has the right to terminate this Agreement if the other materially breaches a term of this Agreement. The term until June 30, 2019 shall be considered a "Trial Period" to evaluate work performance. Producer reserves the right to Terminate this Agreement during the Trial Period. If Contractor terminates this Agreement after Contractor has begun work hereunder, Producer will prorate the Fee. REMEDIES . Contractor recognizes that in the event of a breach by Contractor of Contractor's obligations under this Agreement, the damage (if any) caused to Producer thereby would be irreparable and that, in such event, Producer shall be entitled to injunctive or other equitable relief to prevent such breach. Contractor's rights and remedies in the event of a failure or an omission constituting a breach of the provisions of this Agreement by Producer shall be limited to Contractor's right, if any, to recover damages in an action at law, but in no event shall Contractor be entitled by reason of any such failure or other breach to rescind this Agreement, or to enjoin or restrain the production, distribution, or exhibition of the Program or the advertising or publicizing thereof or the due exercise by Producer, its successors, licensees, or assigns of any of their rights in the Results and Proceeds. My question: Should I/Can I ask for a different Termination of Contract clause (2 weeks notice like in other positions?). Do I have any other options? Any help is hugely appreciated, as I really want this job, I just don't want to put myself and my family at risk financially! [link] [comments] |
Client signed a contract, then ghosted Posted: 16 Jun 2019 07:41 AM PDT Im based in Michigan, and a Texas company signed a contract with my marketing agency for a significant amount of services on a monthly retainer. It was signed to start on April 15th. After the meeting in which we signed the contract, I haven't heard from him at all. He has one invoice for the monthly fees due back in April, but now at June 16, we are 3 months behind the contract. There are legal inclusions in the contract that include repercussions for failure to pay. But as a small business owner, I'm not sure what to do. I've sent him 6-8 follow up messages, all amicable and polite in nature. Zero, zip, nothing... any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 09:29 AM PDT I just left my Pittsburgh apartment and I left some burn marks on some hardwood floors. I knew those would have to be replaced but there was only maybe 8-10 that needed to be replaced. After I moved my landlord told me 14 needed replaced. That's fine maybe a couple from around the burns needs replacing too. Then they sent me a quote for ~3k. Seemed a bit much. Then I called a flooring company and sent em pictures of the floor I had. They gave me a 1500 quote. I told my landlord but they insisted I'm wrong and it would need additional sanding and detailing while the flooring guy I called says it doesn't. Then fast forward some days and I'm sent a quote for ~5.5 k and the quote says removal and change of LVT in the living and hallway when I'm certain the marks were only in the living. Also I looked it up and LVT is supposed to be cheaper than hardwood so I don't know why the quote would go up that much because initially my landlord thought it was hardwood too? I know I'm liable for the burnt floors and am willing to pay but am I overthinking? Also sorry if this is the wrong place to post if someone can point me to a better place that'd be great! Edit: just asked and was told that's for the whole living room/ dining and hallway because "you can't just fix the area it all has to be replaced. It's not real wood so it can't be stained." It doesn't make sense to me [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 12:32 PM PDT I (17F) have worked at a local small ice cream shop for 2 years. I'm a good employee - I'm never late, rarely call in sick and I work well. This place gets INSANELY busy, with lines up to 20+ft out the door. It also gets really hot in the summer and is just a busy place to work. One night, I had a particularly difficult shift where there were huge lines but only 3 people working (only 2 ppl until 5;30, we close at 10). None of us got a break (you can't break when it's too busy) and could barely go to the bathroom. It was hell. I've had nights like this before but have never complained. My boss has owned this place for 20 years. She knows how busy it gets. I sent her a message explaining what happened and asking if she could start calling more people in when it gets hot (as hot = more people want ice cream). I said we didn't get breaks, I was exhausted, and that it was super busy. No one ever complains to her. She ignored this text, and I tried calling her the morning after to no avail. The next 2 days I was sick (bad headaches, and a super swollen eye from a stye that is somewhat contagious) and couldn't work. She responded to these texts saying OK that's fine. So here's the kicker. She, without telling me, removes me completely from the schedule next week and took away my shift tonight. I texted her about this tonight asking why and she said I seemed fed up and that things at my work were too busy for me, but said she would love it if I came in for my shift tonight (which she again booked me off of without telling me and I was planning my day around going to. I'm not going in tonight now.) This appears to be her way of firing me. I've worked there 2 years and I'm pretty pissed as this is very unprofessional. My boss only employees teenage and 20's girls and as such I dont think is expecting backlash or complaints. What legal recourse or compensation am I applicable for, and how should I go about getting this? I live in Ontario. [link] [comments] |
Reckless Driving and Speeding Ticket- NY State Posted: 16 Jun 2019 10:58 AM PDT Friday, June fourteenth, me (M17) and three other friends (all 18) were returning to PA from Montreal. During my driving shift, we passed through New York on a highway with a speed limit of 65. I was driving in the right lane at 105 when I noticed a car right behind me with no other cars near me but nearby cars going 90-95. I wanted to gain space from the car behind me so I sped up to 115 and then the lights came on. I was cited for speeding at 117 by radar, and also received a reckless driving ticket, which I understand is a big deal. Since I know nothing about the law, any help explaining what will happen and how to prepare, that would be greatly appreciated. I have already contacted a lawyer but would still like clarity about the laws concerning reckless driving and speeding for New York state so I am prepared for what will happen. [link] [comments] |
Removing a room mate from the lease Posted: 16 Jun 2019 08:09 AM PDT Back story im in Texas and my now ex boyfriend put a hidden camera in my daughters room, after finding it I searched his computer and found child pornography like a lot of it. Police are involved now and he's being investigated however since no charges have been made yet I'm having to deal with the fact he's on my lease . I plan on getting a temporary restraining order but I'm wondering if I notify my landlord will they be able to remove him from my lease and allow me to continue even though there's no charges yet? Also I know he wants to take some kind of legal action against me not sure how or what for . Basically I'm struggling to figure out the best route to take here [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 01:02 PM PDT Location: NYC So today my sister received a package of a dog leash lingerie, which she never ordered nor did anyone in our family did. This was really worrying as whoever ordered this has her name and our address. The return address is in Myanmar and the phone number + ext given calls my sister's number. After calling Amazon she was able to confirm that this account is using her credit card, and she was also able to confirm a previous purchase in 2016. So we're pretty sure that this was an old account of hers that she stopped using. After she cancelled the credit card, she decided to call Amazon to have the account closed, as all of her personal information is still on it. However, apparently it is against Amazon's policy to close an account unless you can verify the email address being used, and whoever hacked into the Amazon account changed the email address. She went through numerous representatives and they all said the same thing, even though she can confirm the card being used along with one of the purchases. Can Amazon actually refuse to close an account that made fraudulent purchases simply because of that policy? And if so what action can be taken to bypass Amazon and make them close the account? I think I need to sue Amex, VRBO, and their payment company, Vacation Rent Payment. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 09:06 AM PDT I am a (now former) VRBO host. Amex allowed an obviously fraudulent chargeback and that has put my account in the negative with VRP. I cancelled my last guest since I will no longer be using VRBO and they are refusing to refund the 2nd guest because my account is negative. VRBO doesn't have any power to force VRP to refund the guest. They are two completely separate companies. Bottom line VRP is trying to keep guest B's payment to cover the losses of guest A's fraudulent chargeback. *a host does not get paid out until after a guest checks in, I cancelled guest B so I have never, nor will I ever, have her funds. If anyone has any advice, I'd certainly appreciate it. Edited to say I am in Louisiana [link] [comments] |
