At Fault Insurance Co is refusing to pay medical bills. Posted: 17 Jun 2019 08:01 PM PDT The tl:dr got into an auto accident. PIP coverage is paying all the medical bills except the first $1000. I have a 1k deductible. Ok that's fine. I submitted the first $1000 bills to the at fault insurance however they are saying they don't have to pay them due to it being a PIP deductible. I don't see why I have to pay for these med expenses that I wouldn't have if I wasn't hit in the first place. I'm in Kentucky. Any advise or clarification how this works would be appreciated! Car damaged during short-tow due to parking violation. Cannot figure out who towed it. What do I do? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 12:45 PM PDT Hi guys, I over-slept a 6 AM parking spot by 15 minutes, and my car was short-towed as a result. Denver does this now where they move your car to a legal spot a few blocks away if you're in violation. The problem is - they damaged my front bumper (cracked the plastic) and dragged my rear hitch bike rack (hopefully just cosmetic) in the process of towing. I've tried calling every office in Denver but none of them can tell me what private company did the towing. I've called a list of tow companies that one of the people at the city gave me, and all of them say "it wasn't me." The damage isn't huge, but it's upsetting. My deductible is $500. I'm not 100% clear on how car insurance works or how they can help here. I have full coverage and collision (car loan). Any direction on what I should do or how to proceed would be much appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 03:40 AM PDT Has any one experiences double prescription coverage? Does it work like double medical coverage? My husband and I both have very good insurance plans through our employers. He is on his plan and he has mine as a secondary, as I can add him for no additional cost. However per the terms of my employer, to be on my plan he must be covered by his employer and use that as primary. His RX insurance changes 7/1 and the new plan isn't as good as his old one. If he gets a prescription filled and has to pay $25 on his plan, will the pharmacist then run it through my plan, where I have just a $5 copay? Resulting in us paying just the $5? [link] [comments] |
What kind of travel insurance do to ensure I make a connection between two PNRs? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 11:06 PM PDT Spell-correct typo in the title, but I can't change it. Oh well. I have a long trip coming up. The first half involves leaving home and traveling to the mainland, then flying to Honolulu on the 13th of July. That's all one PNR. The 2nd half involves leaving the next day, the 14th of July to Cambodia. That's a second PNR. There's no way to combine the PNRs. I'm concerned that if the Honolulu flight is delayed, I may miss my flight to Cambodia. Is it possible to insure this connection? Can I insure just the Cambodia part of the trip or do have to insure the whole thing? [link] [comments] |
Hit a plastic box on the highway, video below. Will I be at fault? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 08:12 PM PDT Basically that's just my question, will this count as collision or comprehensive and will I be blamed for this. It did a fair amount of damage and I'll probably need a new front bumper, I have a $1,000 deductible. I got a chip in my windshield last week too so I'm really not happy. https://streamable.com/0ss7d In the video as soon as I see the box you can see me move to the right of my lane as there was a car to the right of me. Then when it starts coming into my lane I move back left in my lane hoping it will go far right but it hit straight on. It scratched and cracked my front bumper and grille and I think also took out one of my front sensors. 2018 Ford Fusion btw, and I have Geico. [link] [comments] |
OEM Part cheaper than A/M Part? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:19 PM PDT I was in a car accident. GEICO wrote me an estimate with an aftermarket part. However, the OEM part is cheaper than the aftermarket part if it is picked up at the dealership. The dealership is also like 5-minute drive away from the Xpress repair shop. Is there a chance to make GEICO order the OEM part? p.s. I am not saying aftermarket part will have lower performance. If it is cheaper, why not? [link] [comments] |
Choosing between different health plans--HELP!! (x-post from /r/healthinsurance) Posted: 17 Jun 2019 08:01 PM PDT Hello, I need some help on picking a health insurance option. My workplace sent me a list of 15 different plans and rates (attached.) I have no idea what half of the things on here are. Differences between EPO, PPO, POS, HDHP, multiple deductibles, co-insurance, etc. I honestly think they purposely obfuscate some of this shit on purpose to fuck with people. Our situation is we are a family with 3 kids, the oldest is 5 years old. May probably be going for a 4th sometime in the next couple years. I'm looking for something decent that will be right for us and not break the bank and trying to be as cost conscience as possible as we are currently working on getting out of 6 figures of debt due to a catastrophe which took place a couple years ago. Which one of these sounds the most reasonable given the cost? Thanks in advance smart folks! [link] [comments] |
Girlfriend moving into house I own - Insurance options? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 06:57 PM PDT Hi, My girlfriend is moving into a house I own (mortgage/title are in my name). I'm with Farmer's Insurance for home/auto/umbrella. Previously she has rented apartments/rooms in houses and has renter's insurance. What should be covered, if any, under my insurance and does she need renter's insurance in this case? Originally I had hoped that her personal property could be covered under my home owner's if I had to make a claim, along with any liability that occurs at the house, but that otherwise things would operate as they have been. Example: If she moves a bookcase into the house and a large loss like a fire occurs, I could get her bookcase covered under home owner's Coverage C personal property. I had originally framed it that way, and was told by my agent that if additional people move into the house, and they aren't renters, to add as Additional Member of Household for a few bucks a month. This sounded good, and I followed up a month later to get her added. The agent's assistant called me confused, saying that if she doesn't own the house she can't be added to the policy, and that "if her driver's license says the house address, she's moved in and her personal property is covered". This didn't sound correct to me, so I followed up with the agent expressing concern that the policy document says that while personal property owned by others is covered under the home owners, it explicitly does not cover "property of tenants, roommates, roomers, live-ins or boarders not related to that insured is not covered." I wanted to clarify with them whether she is categorized under that exception, even though she isn't paying rent. The agent then called, and said that there's three options: 1. We're married or a registered domestic partner, at which point she is completely covered implicitly; 2. She's a named insurer, but warned that all loss payments are completely joint, as is billing; 3. She takes out her own Renter's Insurance policy. He said because she was not a co-owner of the property, she couldn't actually be added as an additional insured. I then wanted to verify this with Farmer's directly, just to check that was a requirement. The first "specialist" said no it wasn't a requirement, named insured would have all payouts joint and additional insured woudn't, and that I could add her, and that was the only way to have her property covered unless she got renter's. I then asked them to quote, they said no premium increase, asked if I would like her added, and I consented. I didn't see her added online anywhere on the policy, except listed as an additional driver on the auto policy (of which I didn't even know anyone added her there). I contacted online chat support again, to confirm she was correctly added to home owners. They first said she was, then asked for a bunch of address details (even tho she is moving in, so should be the home owners address), said they were adding her again since she wasn't correctly added.. then said she was added but under "other" instead of "additional insured" (of which I couldn't get an explanation of that distiniction either). They then forward me to a specialist, who said she is not a co-owner so shouldn't be listed as an additional insurer and said they were removing her from additional insurer, and that additionla insurer is also always joint payouts. I guess my question is what exactly is the correct approach here for a girlfriend moving into an owned house? - Is there a difference between named and additional and "other" insured? Is there any financial repurcessions on this? Does she need to be a co-owner? She doesn't have financial interest in the house, only some personal property within the house... and I rather not intermingle finances, I was just trying to make sure her property could be covered if there was a fire, large theft, etc... At this point we're both leaning for her just to have a separate renter's policy, since there seems to be no clear understanding of what Farmer's Home Owners allows or covers for her. Every agent or representative seems to give conflicting answers. - She's now listed as a driver on my auto insurance. I hadn't requested this, she drives my car rarely, but I had thought that my policy covers additional drivers in which I give permission to drive, and she has her own auto policy as well. Is it customary for her to get added since we're at the same address, even if we are just co-habitating and not married, or in a domestic partnership? Should I get them to try and reverse this? Question on RCV for items lost via storm damage Posted: 17 Jun 2019 05:51 PM PDT I tried to search for answers to my question but had no luck, so I apologize if this is an obvious answer... We recently had storm damage collapse our porch roof and damage a number of items on the porch. All the repairs for the house I understand, but I have a question about the replacement of items. In particular, we had a hand made solid wood table that was built specifically by a friend as a gift. We paid him for the materials and he did the labor (probably like 30 hours of work at least) for free. He's a hobbyist, not a professional, but he made it with very high quality joinery and craftsmanship. In the itemized list I just received from insurance in the estimate, the rcv was like $150 based on some generic link to a "wood table'. But an actual handcrafted table would be well above that. And we paid nearly 3 times that amount just for the materials. So I guess what I'm wondering is A: what exactly am I entitled to as replacement value? How much does the quality of the object come into play? What about the sentimental value of it being crafted by a close friend? I guess what I'm wondering is - am I entitled to have a replacement table built by my friend? And B: if I am entitled to replacement with a table built by a friend, how should I quantify the cost? He said he'd build another one for us, but I hate for him to not get paid for his time doing something he wouldnt otherwise have to do? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated! Edit- located in Louisiana, if it makes a difference. [link] [comments] |
Health Insurance for Spouse and Child Posted: 17 Jun 2019 05:28 PM PDT My employer offers health insurance coverage for my family, but the cost is over $1,350 per month. We are a single income household. Could my spouse and child get a plan outside of my employer plan? If so what do we need to do? [link] [comments] |
What qualifies as "acceptable insurance activities" for the CPCU? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 05:22 PM PDT I currently work for a company that develops insurance software and I have completed the AINs designation. I am interested in obtaining my CPCU designation but I want to make sure my line of work qualifies as 'acceptable insurance activities'. Any help is appreciated. Requirements from the institutes: "Before earning the CPCU Designation, you must be able to show that you were engaged for a minimum of 17 1/2 hours a week in acceptable insurance activities for any 24 months during the five-year period immediately preceding the conferment of the designation." Wrecked my car, couple of questions. Located in Indiana. Posted: 17 Jun 2019 05:15 PM PDT Hey everyone, As the title states I wrecked my car today, it is a 2012 Nissan Altima Coupe that I carry full coverage on. I am located in Indiana. What happened was I hydroplaned on the interstate and slid into the guardrail resulting in damage to the drivers side, and front and rear bumpers (album attached) however I was able to drive it the rest of the way after the police report was filed. Was just looking to get your opinion on if it would be totaled or not. My second question is that if it is not totaled do I get a say in what parts they use to repair it? i.e. could I have them use aftermarket bumper covers that have a unique look to them as opposed to stock OEM parts? The aftermarket ones that I'm referring to are less expensive than OEM ones so I wouldn't think it would be an issue to use them instead however this is my first accident in my 15 years of driving so I am new to all of this. Thanks for taking the time to read! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:56 PM PDT Today I was told my car was totaled and they gave me an offer that I have 48 hours to accept. It's a really small insurance company that I had never heard of before. This is my first time dealing with something like this, so I just want to make sure I'm being offered a fair price. Are there any specific used car sites or valuing sites that I can reference to ensure it was a fair offer? Should the offer be similar to these sites or should I expect to end up putting down a couple thousand extra even if getting a similar car? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Is an urgent care center ripping me off? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:41 PM PDT Cross-post from r/legaladvice Florida. I went to a Baptist hospital urgent care center for an x-ray of my elbow amounting to a 15 minute doctor consultation; which they found nothing. A month later with persistent elbow pain, I went to the orthopedic specialist at the main Baptist hospital center. More x-rays were taken and they found I had a stress fracture. I paid my deductible at both locations of $50. A month later, I received a bill from the urgent care center stating I owe $455 after the insurance paid $875 of the $1330 total bill. In comparison, the bill from the main hospital was only $27. Looking at both bills, the urgent care center charged $1300 for an X-ray and doctor visit but for the same X-ray and doctor visit with a specialist at the main hospital was $27 after the insurance company paid the rest of the $663 bill. I am planning to appeal to the insurance company to pay the rest but that's likely not going to happen. Mainly I am frustrated at the urgent care for excessively overcharging the same treatment that was done for less at a hospital in the same Baptist system. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Landlord wants money for 15 y/o washingmachine (Germany) Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:35 AM PDT Hello there. I am asking for my fiancé. He lived one year in a flat with his coworker together. The actual renter of this flat was on a worldtrip for a year. They left their 15 year old Miele washingmachine for use. It had already problems. The door won't shut and the machine hasn't worked correctly. They even called the actual renters how to use it when the door won't shut. Clothes where even still wet. I saw and used that thing too and it was just an old thing where I don't wanted to wash my clothes anymore, it was a mess. Well, two months after moving out, they want the money for it. They don't have the bill anymore but this machine should be 1740€ worth and from 2004. I think the people on the insurance wouldn't take us serious if we tell them about it. What is your opinion about it, does he really need to pay for the damage of an washing machine that's more than 10 years old? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2019 03:13 PM PDT Hello everyone. Honestly, I only just discovered the communities on Reddit 3 days ago. I've become a bit addicted I think. So anyway, I have an issue that I could use some advice on. I was driving on the expressway the other day and ran over something. It was loud enough that I thought whatever I ran over made its way up into the fender and damaged something there. I was surprised to find, after pulling over, that I only had a flat tire. I found out later that I had actually cracked the rim. Not a big deal. I could have done without that happening but such is life, right? I would pay $200-300 for a new rim and move on. Come to find out that a new rim is going to cost me $1050.00. $1250 balanced and mounted. The car we're talking about here is a 2013 Infiniti G37. there is not a blemish on this car. It is pristine and only has 42k miles. Now, I have full coverage. My deductible is $500. Even if I were to buy a used rim it would be $300 and to balance and mount my existing tire onto it will be another $50. So it comes down to $350 for a used rim (probably with scratches and scuffs)... or... $500 for a new rim and the potential raise in premiums? I don't have any previous claims. I am 47 and haven't had a ticket in at least 6 or 7 years. I am 10 mins north of Atlanta, GA [proper] Should I file a claim? If I even let them know about it will it affect my future premium? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 02:38 PM PDT Hello everyone, I have a honda 2010. I have driven approx 3.5 years with no accidents. I was driving on Saturday and was within speed limit. I wanted to go into the faster lane from the right lane. I looked at the mirrors, including the blindspot mirror, there was no one. then I put blinker on and then I swear to gods, that I looked again, but this lady came out of nowhere and my car mirror made a small scratch on her right door side. My mirror had a small scratch as well. Thankfully no one was hurt. We stopped and the police were there. They heard my version and said, that I was fault for not looking at the mirrors while changing the lanes, I said she must have been fast and coming zigzag. But the police gave me a citation. It means I would have to pay fine of ~170 dollars and have 3 points on my license history. While giving the options, the police said that you have the option of a court hearing and you can plead not guilty. The police also said that you can directly contact the lady and pay for her damages directly, since the damage is minimal (a scratch on the right hand side). Or you can pay the fine. Since this was my first accident, I was in panic mode. Looking back I shouldn't have been. But I also gave the wrong tag info to the police when I had the correct one in my car. Police also gave me a ~150 dollar fine for that. After I showed them the correct one, they said I can get it cleared for a nominal fee in the clerk office, which I will do promptly. Now, please guide me, if I should hire a lawyer (if yes, what is the cost?), talk to the lady, or have the fine paid. I am sure that I was not at fault and florida is a no fault state. But both of our cars did not have a dashcam. Also what should I do with the insurance? Do I call them and inform them? [link] [comments] |
COBRA running out soon want an HSA plan Posted: 17 Jun 2019 07:56 AM PDT Where is the best place (live in FL, age 56) to get a health insurance plan/policy that would qualify for and HSA? I'm going to lose my really good COBRA plan soon and will need to find health insurance. Pretty healthy, so think this route would be the best for me, but I'm a bit lost on how to get an insurance plan that qualifies for an HSA. [link] [comments] |

prescription not covered during lapse of insurance? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 01:36 PM PDT Hi all Just found this sub and i'm hoping to get some guidance on how to appeal a denied prescription claim. Breakdown of events by date: 2/15/19: Lost health insurance due to loss of employment because of a medical condition. I applied for COBRA immediately. I was told my insurance would be reinstated on 3/1/19 because enrollment is monthly and only can begin at the beginning of each month. I was also told not to worry because "COBRA will back-fill coverage" during the insurance lapse between 2/15/2019-3/1/2019 2/25/19: Filled a prescription required for my condition and paid $335 dollars 3/19: Filed for reimbursement with my insurance company (United Health/Optum Rx) 4/19: Claim was denied because of explanation code 97: "Your prescription benefit requires manual reimbursement at a contract rate. Therefore, you have received either partial or no reimbursement for this claim" I get that insurance companies and providers/pharmacies have contracted prices and if you don't have insurance and pay out of pocket you are charged more, but how in this situation could I have filled my prescription at the contract rate if I didn't have insurance at the time? Shouldn't COBRA protect against this? Any guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!! [link] [comments] |
Insuring a car to never be driven Posted: 17 Jun 2019 07:34 AM PDT I am moving out of the country in a few months but will be keeping my car in my mother's garage. It's a luxury car that I do not wish to part with but won't see the road unless I return back to the USA. My question is if there is such a thing as insuring the car to essentially just sit in the garage? The title is in my name so I would also like to know if the car can be insured on my mothers plan. Regarding the billing address... Posted: 17 Jun 2019 01:28 PM PDT Hi, I'm currently on my parent's medical plan. Is it possible for me to change the billing address so any bills sent from whichever doctors offices go to me at my address and not to him? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2019 03:21 PM PDT I have been with Erie insurance (auto+renters) for the past three years and am a big fan of their customer support. Now, I am forced to move for work from the Midwest to the West coast, where Erie does not have a footprint. Are there any other reliable insurance companies that are highly selective and reward low-risk customers with lower premiums? I checked the cincinnati financial company, but their online quote process was just confusing. Any suggestions? No claims in the past 5 years (both at and non-at-fault accidents) and have been continuously insured for over 7 years. Current coverages are 250k/500k. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:38 AM PDT I'm getting my urine test for American family life insurance tomorrow and I'm freaking about the urine test. I told them that I do not smoke marijuana or tobacco. I haven't smoked for 5 days and I used to take hits out of my wax pen daily. I'm about 6' 170lbs with 17% body fat. I'm mainly worried about having my premium go up or my premium being voided due to the lie. Should I be worried? Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Special Event Insurance - What Happens to Me if a Claim is Filed? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 10:37 AM PDT So I'm a part of a group where we put on a charitable event each year. It's a very long story to explain the background properly. We're not directly associated with any larger organization, it's just the group of us doing things. Last year our venue required us to carry event insurance. I got the policy as a separate, standalone special event policy from Progressive under my name, because we don't have an official legal entity to get the policy under. This past year, everything went smoothly. We will shortly begin making our preparations for next year. My concern is what kind of personal risk am I putting myself in by having the policy in my name. It's not associated with any existing insurance policy that I have, it's completely standalone, I just put my name down on it. If, god forbid, someone had to file a claim against it, would I be at any risk? I'm referring both to being on the hook for any claims made or having a negative impact on other insurance policies that I take out in my personal life (auto, home, etc). Thank you all so much.
