The amount of shitposting on this subreddit has reduced and it makes me sad. Posted: 11 Jun 2019 01:14 PM PDT IDGAF about your career questions, I want to see first years complaining about 50 hour work weeks in busy season, then complaining about poor performance reviews. [link] [comments]

Opportunity for my own practice, or continue B4? Posted: 11 Jun 2019 04:44 PM PDT Distant friend of a friend is selling part of his accounting business. About 200+ private tax clients, so 1040 prep and tax planning. He is willing to split it into multiple portions, and me, a dumbass who bites off more than they can chew, said I'd be willing to take on 1/4 of his clients. Purely speculative, but this is literally my dream job. I've taken and passed all parts of the CPA and have been at a B4 for 6 months. My long-term has been to build my own existing bookkeeping/accounting side hustle until I could exit, but this seems like a faster track to doing so. I still need to find out how much each client will be sold for, so that is a limiting factor. Any thoughts or advice? EDIT: Regarding concerns if these are trouble clients, the guy simply has too many higher-paying clients to keep these ones he is selling off. The idea is that there's tax planning opportunities with these that I could price them out for. And pricing comes out to 1.5x current fee for each client, so I'm already limited to maybe 10 or so. How does a C Corporation report a cash dividend to a shareholder on the 1120 form for a tax return? Posted: 11 Jun 2019 06:54 PM PDT I'm taking a tax class this summer and just stuck on corporate tax. I understand the basics but can't really find information about where a C Corp would report a cash dividend to a shareholder on a tax return or 1120. Dividends reduce the retained earnings, does that show up on the balance sheet or some specific schedule on the tax return? [link] [comments]

PwC Summer internship starting soon. Need some advice! Posted: 11 Jun 2019 05:41 PM PDT Hello everyone! This summer I will be interning at PwC for their core assurance department and was wondering if I could get some tips! For starters, what's the experience like? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated ! [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jun 2019 05:21 PM PDT Took REG yesterday. My third exam and this one has felt the toughest (yes, I've passed FAR). Felt like the second testlet of MCQs got tougher. I felt good on about 50-60% of all the MCQs. And I found the SIMs to be hit or miss for me. There were 2 or 3 SIMs I was absolutely sure on (including the research), but overall I walked out feeling just "meh"/so-so on my chances of passing this thing. Anybody been blown away by their score for REG? Thought you failed for sure, but ended up passing? Feel free to share your stories. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is manegerial accounting important for later classes? Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:37 PM PDT I'm taking manegerial accounting online along with 2 other online classes. I'm also working 40 hours a week so it may get difficult to actually thoroughly learn the curriculum for manegerial accounting. I've taken financial accounting and it was pretty easy and kinda fun. Are the next classes going to be a continuation of financial and manegerial? Or just a continuation of financial? [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 Jun 2019 08:00 PM PDT Hey everyone, I recently submitted my unofficial transcripts to the Big 4 firm where I have a full time offer. Will I have to provide OFFICIAL transcripts later on closer to my start date in the fall? I submitted my unofficial transcripts before graduating because they only requested grades through the most recently completed quarter and I graduate in a couple of weeks. I am worried about getting a low grade after a rough final exam today. [link] [comments]
Does anyone have an out of state CPA? Posted: 11 Jun 2019 03:59 PM PDT I'm in an industry where you never need to have it or use it but it's a really nice credential. Thing is, my state has a relatively strict work experience requirement and I almost definitely won't be able to meet it. Struck me as a possibility that I could get licensed in a state with looser requirements just so I can in fact say I'm a CPA (I understand that's basically what international folks do anyway)... Does anyone have experience with this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jun 2019 02:41 PM PDT So, I have a very large P.E. client (~$1 billion in raised capital)... It's all spread out over about 20 entities that receive close to 600 K-1s from mostly foreign investments. Then the information is filtered through a minimum of 10 excel spreadsheets. It's a fucking nightmare. This is just for the 926, UBTI, ECI, FDAP, capital gains/losses, etc. Then there are the states...kill me please.Does anyone have any experience with anything similar and what did you do to manage all of the information? Is there a program I can suggest we use? We already prepare their compilation for their book info and then we just have a huge M-1 for K-1 activity.[link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jun 2019 10:12 AM PDT Title pretty much sums it up, I'm a senior in B4 advisory practice (IT advisory). Had another B4 firm offer 82K while I'm currently at 70K. Has anyone had luck at the senior level leveraging another offer for a raise? I've always heard you don't really have negotiating power until you are a manager so just curious how this approach has worked for others in similar situations. I won't say this upfront but I'd take 75k to stay at my current position as I love my team and manager. edit: a little more information, we are needing additional employees, we're currently trying to hire another senior and a manager so I think that could help my case. Also our team is currently 3 seniors and I'm consistently rated higher than the other 2 (not positive but I'm very sure I make more than the other 2 already). [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jun 2019 12:08 PM PDT Has anyone ever worked as a BA for any of the big four? Is this a position that can be applied for as entry level or with 1+ years experience for someone with an accounting/MIS degree? What positions does it lead to? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Jun 2019 12:50 PM PDT I currently work as a Senior Accountant for a Fortune 50 company. I work in cost accounting. I have about four years of experience. A recruiter of a private company contacted me to discuss a job at a local small to mid-sized company as a Controller. There's no CFO, so I'd report to the CEO directly. To be fair, I manage the accounting for multiple locations and I handle a lot of dollars, but while I'm flattered to be contacted as a Controller, it seems above me. Anyone work as a Controller here or report to one? What can you tell me about your experience? [link] [comments]
Pregnant during FIRST busy season in Big 4 (hypothetical) Posted: 11 Jun 2019 09:47 PM PDT Lets say you got pregnant now, start full time in the fall (only 3 months then, not showing at first), and would be due around February. How would that play out? Do you get maternity leave having JUST started? Would it be best to talk to the recruiter about delaying your start date to the following year instead? Has anyone experienced this or known anyone in this situation? How did that work out? [link] [comments]
How much of a raise should I ask for after passing the CPA exam? Posted: 11 Jun 2019 03:45 PM PDT My employment agreement explicitly includes a raise upon completion of the CPA exam but there has been no discussion of amounts. I am working in industry making $45k in a low CoL area. Since I do not expect a significant change to my workload after passing, what is a reasonable request regarding the raise? Would asking for non-monetary changes like additional PTO or a title change be appropriate? Any anecdotes or advice are appreciated. [link] [comments] |
