Are brokerage firms allowed to buy/sell immediately following a downgrade or upgrade? Posted: 29 May 2019 11:28 AM PDT Since these rating changes tend to move a stock at least for a day. Is there a rule against saying one thing a doing another? Example a firm's analyst upgrades a stock and the company unloads a big position on the resulting 2-3% pop the following trading day. submitted by /u/BeardedMan32 [link] [comments] |

Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 28 May 2019 09:28 PM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days) Company | Count | Shares Changed | Avg. How to Protect Investments? Posted: 29 May 2019 08:52 AM PDT So after leaving my corporate job I rolled my 401k into an IRA over at Fidelity and did some research and put it into several different mutual funds. In the event of a major recession, what are some ways to protect my investments? Also, is it possible to sell off the mutual fund positions and leave the money in the settlement account for an unspecified period of time? Just thinking if it looks like it's going to get rough, at least it will be sitting somewhere not losing value and will be ready to buy again more near the bottom. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/JesterTheTrickster [link] [comments] |
Bond v stock Posted: 29 May 2019 07:59 AM PDT Good morning, My entire portfolio is currently in bonds. I was thinking of selling the bonds during a big downturn in the stock market. People will switch over from stocks to bonds thus increasing the price of my bonds. At this point my plan would be to sell my bonds in the market and buy stocks at a cheap price and hold long term. Does my analysis make sense? Any holes in it that I should be aware of? Thanks. submitted by /u/GaniB [link] [comments] |
Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 28 May 2019 09:29 PM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New Filings This table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold.
