Car went over curb and hit rock

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 07:11 PM PDT

(California) So last night I was driving my girlfriends car to McDonalds she was with me. When pulling into McDonald's I went over a curb which had a rock and hit the side door and scraped the bottom side of the car pretty badly. We both have triple A because of our families. Does anyone know if this would give me a point on my license. Also, would we file a claim under my policy or her policy?

Does using roadside increase insurance rates?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 12:13 AM PDT

My car insurance is offering me roadside for much less than triple a and they've said as long as I don't use it more than 3x a year my rates won't be increased, but let's say I only used it once a year and they raised my rates because of it- how would I know/ esp when my rates raise every year anyway because of the adds I'm in?

How much does miles driven affect premium

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:41 PM PDT

I noticed that my premium this year for my car insurance increased form $950 every 6 months to $1000 every 6 months. The only difference I see is for the first year they used 12,000 miles a year for the miles I drive, and for the second year they used 14,753 since that was what was verified as having been driven.

Could this $50 increase be due to going from 12,000 miles to 14,753 miles? Is is this due to inflation and such?

After 25 years I moved my auto insurance to Geico. I went from $246 mo. to $92 mo. Have you had a similar experience?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 05:15 AM PDT

This is for my wife and I's cars.

I called my previous insurer and got them to quote the exact same numbers and it was $1424 for 6 months. Geico was $509. I do have an extra discount for having 1+ share of Berkshire Hathaway as well.

I have to admit, I am still shocked. Can't believe I didn't call them sooner. What got me to call was that I am a BRK.B shareholder.

Primerica, World Financial Groups, and other MLMs

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 01:10 PM PDT

So currently I work with an independent financial advisor, we are under an RIA and an FMO that gives us insurance product access. I have been in the business for a few short years starting out with a larger insurance firm, then eventually into a wealth management firm. So I've been around the insurance and financial services block.

How do you guys deal with these agents from these MLMs? I just found out my Aunt is in it and she's trying to recruit me to WFG. While I don't consider them competition, they are getting annoying. They also seem to really go after colored communities. I was in the North Jersey/NYC area talking to community leaders that I was reconnecting with. And the first thing they say is, "You'e not with Primerica or WFG, right?:"

There is enough distrust in the insurance and banking industry in general, and these MLM outfits make it worse.

Will my tow truck at a collision be covered

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 10:32 PM PDT

I had an at fault accident today in Ontario (I am Alberta registered and insured). The police officer called me a tow truck and said I cannot just keep the car here (it happened on my street so I could just push the car home) . I asked him if i legally had to tow it and he said I can be fine by city bylaws for not towing it (this is in Waterloo Ontario). I'm assuming the police is not lying to me about this bylaw. I asked him if I could use caa and he tells me why would you waste it on this because the insurance will pay for it anyway. I tell him I have liablility coverage and he says it doesn't matter they will cover. Did he finesse me for a kickback from the towing company?

Car insurance: What if I got in a wreck with a passenger who needs medical treatment?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 03:06 PM PDT

If I get in a car wreck (I have car insurance) and I have a passenger (no car insurance) that gets injured what will happen if it's my fault? This situation hasn't occur, but I am trying to think of worse case scenario. I'm currently driving friends around and don't want to lose all of money if something were to happen.

Diminished Value when hitting coverage limit

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 04:51 PM PDT

I live in Florida and was rear-ended in my Tesla Model S a month ago by a driver who admitted that he wasn't looking at the road. My car just finished repairs and at this point the repairs, tow truck, and rental car were about $16,000. When speaking to his insurance company about a different issue they mentioned that he only had the minimum coverage ($10,000). My insurance paid for all the bills so far and say they will collect everything from the other driver's insurance. But they did say that for the diminished value claim I will have to go directly to his insurance company.

At this point I am trying to figure out how this super low limit is going to affect the diminished value claim that I am going to submit. Will the other driver's insurance pay it? Will my insurance pay it as part of my uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage? Will I have to take the other driver to court?

[CO] The DHS health insurance website said my wife had Medicaid this last year, and now they're saying she didn't.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 07:19 PM PDT

In Colorado, there are two types of welfare health insurance for low-income people, Medicaid and CHP+ (for under 19). The website has said for a year that she had Medicaid, but now they're trying to tell her she had CHP+. Medicaid is automatic, any medical bill is to be paid by Medicaid. But for CHP+ you need permission from your HMO, or whatever, in this case Kaiser Permanente. Now she owes just over $1000 in medical bills (that we probably won't be able to pay easily), because the state's health insurance website lied to us aboat whether or not it would be paid. That's illegal, right?

Is this normal? Annual policy rate increase.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 05:50 PM PDT

This actually deals with my homeowners and auto insurance (2 cars) which I have bundled with the same company.

My policies are set to renew at the end of May, and I just received my quote for the upcoming year. This is my first renewal with this particular company.

I'd like to add that the level of coverage for all three policies are exactly the same for the upcoming year. Also, there were no claims filed on any of the policies over the last year, no tickets, no change in credit score, etc.

The increase on the homeowners policy is 30%, on one car 22%, and on the other 18%. Is this normal?

Questions about process for auto insurance property damage claim

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 05:28 PM PDT

I accidentally ran my car into my neighbor's property and caused some damage. I have decent auto insurance with coverage for property damage. If I file a claim, what usually happens - does the neighbor typically fix it themselves and provide us with a receipt, or will my auto insurance company usually have a list of preferred contractors they'd like to go through? I usually like my auto insurance but they won't give me any answers until I file a claim, which I plan to do; I just want to know a little more about the process before I actually file the claim.

Benefits (for my future premiums) if I do not make a claim to repair my car?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 04:56 PM PDT

I was in a minor fender bender this morning. We pulled over, said nothing to the other, took pictures, called the cops, they came, took statements and info, then we were on our way in less than 15 mins.

My question: is there a benefit to my future premiums if I do not make a claim to repair my car or is the damage done since both he and I already called our respective insurance companies.

    Some details you'll probably need:

    • Geico
    • Westchester County, NY
    • In my late 30s
    • Was in a small collision 10 years ago that was deemed not my fault
    • Damages to either car this AM were only cosmetic
    • Paying ~$700 / 6 mos for my wife and myself driving a Honda Pilot and Honda Fit
    • $1,000 deductible

    Thanks

3 car accident. What do I do?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 04:41 PM PDT

I was in a 3 car accident that resulted from the first car hitting brakes and the second car hit brakes and turned right but ended up hitting the first and bouncing back to hit me as I hit brakes and swerved left. What should I expect moving forward? Should I call my insurance company? The police came and gave a case number but no report due to rush hour traffic and the possibility of more accidents if we lingered on the road.

Personal Vehicle / Commercial Trailer question

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 03:49 PM PDT

Hello! I'm looking at purchasing a enclosed trailer for my business (which is an LLC if that matters) 4x6 or 5x8.

The problem occurs is I need to commercially insure the trailer (and the contents inside of it) but my vehicle is personal insurance. I currently use Progressive insurance.

What would I need to do here? Would insurance be ok if I insured the trailer as commercial while the car is personal insurance?

Iowa if that helps too. Thank you!

Both car insurance companies deny fault/liability?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 02:26 PM PDT

I was in a car accident. This was my first accident and the first time I have ever filed any kind of insurance claim. I am very ignorant on this subject. Please keep that in mind.

I was in a car accident while working as an uber driver with passengers in my car. My personal auto insurance does not cover me while driving for commercial purposes. Uber has insurance through James River that covers their drivers. Because I do not have collision insurance on my personal auto policy, I am not eligible for collision coverage from James River. I didn't know that until after the accident.

The accident was a head on collision. I was turning left at an intersection and had a protected left hand turn. The other driver entered the intersection and collided with me. The bumper and bumper cover of my 2007 honda pilot are damaged and needs to be replaced. It was a low speed collision as we both hit our breaks. I believe I could replace the the bumper myself if needed.

James River was able to obtain the contact information of all 5 of my passengers for witness statements in my defense.

James River has denied that I was at fault or liable in the crash. I called an agent for the other drivers insurance company (Allstate) and he said that Allstate was also denying any fault or liability for the other driver. So my issue is: my insurance says I'm not at fault, the other drivers insurance says he is not at fault.

I suspect that because James River is not liable for damages to the other drivers car and because I am not illegible for any collision coverage, they have no financial incentive to argue my case. Based on email exchanges, it sounds like James River has simply declared no liability and is not going to pursue this further. What can I do from here? How can I get James River to further argue in my defense? I'm supposed to have witnesses in my defense! Should I just give up?

I appreciate any advice and I apologize in advance for my ignorance on the subject of insurance.

Whose liability determination determines my personal liability according to my driving record?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 02:04 PM PDT

I got into an accident that my insurance determined I was in no way liable for. Due to a high deductible and the damage not exceeding it, I went through the other insurance company for my damages and they determined that I was 30% liable and thus were only willing to cut me a check for 70% of the damages. My question is which of these liability determinations determines what my public record states in terms of this accident and insurance purposes? The companies are not arguing between one another and are not in communication so I am unsure. Mine says they won't fight the determination unless I put my damages through on my progressive policy, which I can't do because it's not higher than my deductible or wouldn't do bc it wouldn't be higher by much. So who wins when it comes to what would be put on my driving record/how the accident gets filed? If I accept the other insurances check would that make the public record say I had a 30% liable accident or does only my insurance opinion matter?

Thank you Edit: If you're wondering why the stalemate, it's because I'm dealing with a taxi company who has no intent on repairing their vehicle so I am the only active party here.

    Sewer pipe busted

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:34 PM PDT

    Hi all,

Need help with seeing how I can get my home insurance to cover the costs to repair my sewer pipe being busted. I have noticed recently that alot of roaches have been coming from a specific wall in my house and I get the smell of sewer in my house. Just had a smoke test done to determine where the busted pipe was. The pipe is busted under my kitchen cabinets. Obviously I'm going to have to demo the cabinets and slab to get the pipe to repair. I know from past experiences that Home Insurance will not cover the pipe itself but will they cover the demo costs and costs to repair floor and cabinets? Is there anything I can do to ensure they do cover these costs?

My apt was flooded (not due to pipe burst), and my neighbor is responsible

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:17 PM PDT

Do I file the claim against my renters insurance or theirs? Everyone seems to have varying opinions, but the adjuster from my insurance said for my apartment flooding caused by anything other than pipe burst is the originators fault.

    Please advise!

    Insured for wrong vehicle

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:02 PM PDT

I went to my local tag office today to renew registration on my cars. I was told that they could renew tags on two of my three vehicles but that one was showing no insurance coverage. All three are on the same policy so you understand my confusion.

After a call to my local State Farm agent, it would appear the vin that they have on file is wrong and not even close to what mine is. And now that I study the insurance card, I see that I'm insured for a 2016 year model instead of 2015. The make and model are the same otherwise.

I put the VIN that I'm actually paying for into a carfax search and that vehicle is local. Within 30 miles and it appears to me that I could very well have been paying someone else's premium from another customer that should be insured with the same office.

Regardless of how it happened, it's frustrating. Is there any chance I can expect to receive the difference between the premiums for the year newer car that I've been paying for? I'm sure it wouldn't be much, but it would make me feel a little better.

Especially considering they likely wouldn't have paid out if I had been in an accident the past few years.

    Thanks

Auto insurance asking for personal information on a non-family teenager temporarily in the household

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:54 AM PDT

I live in Virginia and have an Erie Insurance auto policy. I've had a good relationship with them for 20 years. No tickets, no at-fault accidents.

Recently a friend and her teenager lost their lease and moved into 2 spare rooms I have in my house. They each have their own cars and insurance. The teenager does not drive my vehicles, and in fact cannot drive manual transmission even if they wanted to.

My Erie agent sent me a driver questionnaire form asking for a huge amount of information on the teenager. SSN, driving history, pretty much like they were applying for a loan or insurance. I don't know that information and don't feel like I should have to ask the teen to disclose it for something that doesn't benefit them in any way.

What are my options here? They have their own vehicles and insurance, I don't want or need coverage for them on my vehicles. I understand you can do a "driver exclusion" but I read one one site that Virginia doesn't allow that.

    Accident advice

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:48 AM PDT

(Florida) So last night I was backing out of my driveway in my boyfriend's car and backed into the door of a car that was parked in the street directly behind my driveway. It was really late in the night so we didn't call the police or call our insurance companies, and still haven't yet.

He got the quote and its a $1,800+ job that I cannot afford. I'm trying to figure out if I go through my boyfriend's insurance even though I am not covered through his insurance, and my insurance only covers my car. Could this be a case of comparative fault since he was parked in the road? Any advice would be helpful on how to try to go forward with this, because the other driver is now trying to rush me to get this paid for. I'm young and have not had much experience with insurance so I'm kinda lost and need to save money, as I'm a broke kid graduating with student loans from FSU.
