Posted: 15 Apr 2019 08:58 AM PDT I'm just a little confused why people are predicting it to not contend with Netflix and to shy away from DIS stock. With Hulu already having integration with premium channel subscriptions (HBO Go, etc) so you don't have to switch apps, current TV offerings as well as the back catalog, and their partnership with Spotify for free service. Disney+ seems like the perfect integration to make Hulu (DIS) the better choice to Netflix. At this point, Netflix is the one standing all by itself on a lonely island. This is a genuine question, I just dont see any articles acknowledging what Disney+ means to Hulu and what it all means for Netflix competition? [link] [comments] |

I want to learn about the stock market and day trading. What books should I read? Posted: 15 Apr 2019 08:24 PM PDT I'm 23 year old male living in California and I'm very interested in the stock market. I have no experience and little to no knowledge in the stock market, economics, investing, or finance but I'm an avid reader and am very interested in learning about this world. What are some good books I should read as essentially a complete beginner? [link] [comments] |

The Market Environment – April 2019 Posted: 15 Apr 2019 09:19 AM PDT Key Points
Read the blog with the annotated charts here: https://www.brtechnicals.com/fr-the-market-environment-analysis-april-2019/ The Market EnvironmentAt the beginning of each month I like to re-examine the broader stock market to look for any potential risks investors should be aware of. It helps set the tone for the month, and is one of the more important analyses when it comes to our Technical Portfolios. We use this analysis to give an idea of how much risk we should take in our portfolios. AnalysisStocks had a stellar start to the year in the first quarter. However over the last 12 months, the S&P 500 has performed about average. The question is, will stocks continue higher to make new highs, or will they continue in the sideways direction we initially expected? The S&P 500The S&P 500 looks ready to continue higher based on this chart. The index has broken its January 2018 highs, and is honing in on new all-time highs. The only problem is the divergence in the MACD, but we can brush that off because the index has cleared some resistance levels, which should now act as supports. The Nasdaq CompositeThe Nasdaq Composite used its March 2018 high to propel higher after a successful retest of the resistance line (red dashed line). The breadth indicators tell us the index is ready to reach new highs, and the Accumulation/Distribution volume line points to it as well. The Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average is just now clearing the November high, lagging behind the other two large cap indices. The lag is most likely due to the grounding of Boeing Jets, and the subsequent drop in stock price. Now that the index is clearing this level, with the same great looking indicators, large cap stocks are poised to climb higher. Sector RotationPart of having good stock breadth is having good sector rotation. When investors are bullish, they take more risk by buying cyclical sectors. Right now, three cyclical sectors are leading the S&P 500: Technology, industrial, and consumer discretionary stocks. This is a good sign for stock bulls. THE MATERIALS SECTOR (XLB)Going even further, we like to see moves like the chart above. The Materials Sector ETF has just broken past a significant resistance, and is now ready to test the next resistance at $60. This is another cyclical sector helping to push up the S&P 500. The Russell 2000If there is one warning sign in the U.S. stock market, it is the Russell 2000. The index has failed to clear its October/November highs, so far. This is worrisome because the small cap index tends to lead the large cap indices, and it is a proxy for the U.S. economy. If the index fails to clear this significant resistance level, it could spell trouble for the rest of the stock market. Looking further back, we can find a reason the index is struggling to break its October/November highs: A long-term resistance level. The index is struggling to make it past 1,600, where a long-term resistance has formed over the last five years. This is a significant test, as it can determine whether the stock market goes on to make new highs, or if stocks will fall back into the sideways pattern we expected. ConclusionRight now, the large cap indices are providing an excellent opportunity to increase the level of risk in your portfolio. The fresh breakouts provide a clear level where the extra risk should be taken off if stocks tart to fall. That is to say, if an investor wants to add risk to their portfolio they should because of the fresh breakouts we are seeing on the charts. I expect the indices to climb from here. However, if we see the indices fall back below their breakout prices, then that extra risk should be taken out of the portfolio. Right now, the stock market has a good risk-to-reward ratio because the signals are so close to each other.
