Netflix isn't killing movie theaters: Viewers who stream more also go to cinemas more Posted: 08 Apr 2019 10:06 AM PDT Streaming services are not disrupting movie theaters. At CinemaCon in Las Vegas last week, movie distributors and theater owners alike say there is little to fear from a growing population of streaming services. The U.S. box office is expected to grow about 1 percent to a record-breaking $12 billion this year. [link] [comments] |

Boeing is about to reveal just how much the 737 Max crisis hurt its business Posted: 08 Apr 2019 05:15 PM PDT https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/08/business/boeing-737-max-deliveries/index.html New York (CNN Business)The Boeing 737 Max crisis is a tragedy that has cost 346 lives. On Tuesday, investors will start to find out what it means for Boeing's bottom line. Boeing is set to report the number of planes it delivered during the quarter. The company didn't deliver any of its bestselling 737 Max planes in the last two weeks of the quarter, because it halted those deliveries following the global grounding of the 737 Max planes on March 13. Investors will be waiting to see if Boeing forecasts the costs of the grounding and halt of deliveries. Boeing (BA) doesn't normally give any dollar figures as part of its deliveries report, but this is not a normal time. It is one of the greatest crises in the company's history. [link] [comments] |
GE stock getting hammered why? Posted: 08 Apr 2019 05:36 PM PDT Anyone know why GE stock is getting downgraded and falling? Is there a connection to the Boeing 737s being grounded to the GE stock price? Perhaps it's due to millennial's not buying houses and not needing washers dryers and refrigerators. GE sounds like a brand your grandparents use to buy. They also own GE healthcare an industry that president Trump has decided to take on by taking away the free government money it gets from patients aka Obamacare. In a related story, American Airlines said it would extend cancellations of 90 daily flights involving that aircraft by more than a month to June 5. In light of that production cut, and the possibility of more delays in restoring service, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch has cut its rating on the stock to "neutral" from "buy." The Major Indices Continue to Climb, and Still Have Room to Grow Posted: 08 Apr 2019 04:06 PM PDT Key Points
Click here to read the blog with charts: https://www.brtechnicals.com/the-major-indices-continue-to-climb/ Strong Chinese Data Provides CatalystA strong Chinese PMI number gave bulls some confidence as the major indices continue to move higher in the second quarter of 2019. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has now closed above its November highs. It was the last of the large cap averages to do so. While the Dow was wrestling with the resistance level, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite Index were testing their October/November highs from the opposite side. A dovish Fed sent the indices back towards these levels to test as support. Thirteen different sectors and indices held their ground last week, and gave the major averages the foothold they needed to continue higher. The Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe index has broken the November highs. This was a hurdle I had been worried about, so it is good to see it cleared. The gap is also nice to see, as these are usually a sign of a strong breakout. However, I want to point out that if this were a stock or ETF, I would not be buying it yet. I like to see a resistance cleared by a larger margin before putting in a buy order. S&P 500The S&P 500 came back to its October & November highs after the Fed spooked the markets. The support held, and stocks look to continue higher. This type of move is fairly common in technical analysis. After a breakout occurs past a significant level, the stock, or in this case the index, will pull back towards the broken price level. The price level is tested, and once it passes the test, the price continues in the direction of the breakout. Nasdaq CompositeThe Nasdaq Composite's moves look similar to the S&P 500. The index broke the October high, then proceeded to test the level as a support. Now, the index looks ready to continue higher. We will want to pay attention to its all-time highs, as we may see some volatility as the index approaches those levels. Market BreadthMy favorite tool to analyze the indices is stock breadth. These indicators help us determine if there are a lot of stocks helping the indices climb higher, or if only a few stocks are. A strong trend/breakout/index sees higher breadth as the market continues its climb. Amazingly, we are seeing some strong breadth this late into the economic cycle. In the face of a global slowdown, a ridiculously good quarter, and all-time stock market highs, stocks continue to be strong in the United States. I think stocks can continue higher as long as the ADP lines continue to make new highs. Keep an Eye on...Dow TheoryThe Dow Transportation Average is not confirming the price action in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The chart is not a warning yet, but if the transports fall below 10,175, it could signal weakness in the economy. The Russell 2000The Russell 2000 can be used as a leading indicator to the overall stock market and U.S. economy. As you can see in the chart above, the index has not yet cleared its October highs. This could be because of the index's high allocation to financial stocks, which the Fed sent down a couple weeks ago. What it Means for your PortfolioU.S. large cap stocks are looking good. The high breadth, the key level breakouts, and successful support tests are all great signs that the market can continue higher. How high? Well that is a tough question. We will need to watch for volatility and signs of a top as the indices approach their all-time highs. For now, keep your stops a little bit looser as the indices continue to climb. Ladybaybee's transaction results for Q1 - 2019 Posted: 08 Apr 2019 05:32 AM PDT Link to imgur showing all my past completed transactions for 2019 I've been posting recommendations for stocks for a little over a month. I began playing with real money on the second week of January 2019. Here is the list of all my completed transactions, defining "completed" as "bought and sold". The system has been picking up considerable steam in the last month, probably because it is learning more features from the stock market that it previously didn't account for during testing. Here are the stats: Total number of transactions : 139 Avg % growth per completed transaction: 0.74% Avg length per completed transaction: 4 days (note that this is 4 days not business days, so weekends are included) Biggest win: SBGL 15% growth in 7 days Is 0.7% every 4 days good? Maybe, but I think this average can get better. Two weeks ago I readjusted filters in my engine and I have seen an improvement in the returns of my investments. Will this get better? That is the idea, the system continues learning from the market every single day. [link] [comments] |

What % of the market are short- term traders? Posted: 08 Apr 2019 02:25 PM PDT I have tried to find out, but I cannot seem to be able to find the answer to this question. So does anyone know what % of the market are day traders, swing traders and what % are long- term investors? I know that it is probably too hard to calculate, but if anyone have an approximation would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Intrinsic value for stock without dividends? Posted: 08 Apr 2019 07:46 AM PDT I understand that dividends essentially provide an "intrinsic" value for a stock. Ie. gas/materials have an intrinsic value because it has a utility. However things like Gold and Bitcoin don't have any intrinsic value, their value comes from having a limited supply and is more or less just how much people agree it should be worth, but it's worthless outside of the ecosystem. My questions is, is a growth stock without dividends basically like BTC/Gold in terms of how it gets it's value? If not why? [link] [comments] |

Global Consortium (GCGX) Announces New Machine To Process 600 Pounds Of Product Every 8 Hrs Posted: 08 Apr 2019 09:14 AM PDT |
Posted: 08 Apr 2019 09:05 AM PDT Something strange happened So, maybe i´m not reading this right or I can´t figure it what what happened so o turn to you guys, experts on the subject: I´m from Portugal, newbie in the stockmarket and I make my trades on DEGIRO. So, what happened: I bought 45 stocks of a company called MARA at the 4th of April Bought 30 at 0,75 and other 15 at 0,65 (Total: 45 stocks) – i´m still learning so maybe it´s a bad call, but I took it as a lesson. Suddenly, in 8 of April, I get a notificiation in my email saying that my 45 MARA stocks were sold at the price of 0,65 each and then, in the same day, "I" bought 11 MARA stocks at the price of 2,59. The thing is… I did not order these transactions!!!! Is this normal? What does this mean? Was it a readjustment of sorts? As I was afraid of this transaction that I did not make, I sold all my position at MARA, I did not lose much (just a bit of the commission fee) but one thing is to have 45 stocks at 0,65 and then have 11 stocks at 2,59 – the price almost match but I still don´t understand what happened! Any help will be appreciated :) [link] [comments] |
Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 08 Apr 2019 12:10 PM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New FilingsThis table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold. Amended FilingsThis table lists amended filings in the last week, and is useful for monitoring changes in existing investments or when a fund closes a position. I have eliminated all filings with less than a 5% change in ownership. Source: Fintel.io/activists [link] [comments] |
Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 08 Apr 2019 12:10 PM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days)Largest Insider Selling (Last 7 Days)Count column is number of transactions. Nvidia Versus Xilinx: Heavy Hitter AI Stocks Posted: 08 Apr 2019 08:09 AM PDT Nvidia fell off a cliff last October from a high of $290 to a low of $130. Meanwhile, the challenger Xilinx remained unharmed by the tech rout, and despite unfavorable macro conditions. Nvidia popularized GPUs in 1999 and Xilinx invented FPGAs in 1985, and both are chips that will define the computationally-intensive future.
