Stocks to Watch After a Dovish Surprise Posted: 01 Apr 2019 03:18 PM PDT Market Back DropClick here to read the blog with the charts: https://www.brtechnicals.com/fr-stocks-to-watch-after-a-dovish-surprise/ The Fed struck an extremely dovish tone last week when it decided to hold off on any future interest rate changes and plans to end the bond rollover program in September. This sent rates falling and stocks tumbling. Most notably, financial stocks have taken the biggest hit. This drop in stocks reminded me of a hedging tool that we haven't really used, but are able to in our Aggressive Portfolio: shorting. Shorting stocks is essentially the opposite of buying stock. When you short, you are betting the stock will go down. The main difference between going long versus short, is that shorting a stock technically has unlimited risk. While the biggest risk of a long position is that the value drops to $0, a short position could potentially lose all of the money, and then some. However, there are some good reasons to short a stock, but I am currently focused on one. Having some short positions can act as a hedge for our portfolio, especially when all stocks are falling. However, I take the unlimited risk very seriously, and will only open a short position if there is a strong case to be made, and a strong possibility that it will be profitable. Plus, some members may want to know of short sale trading opportunities, so I am going to make them a part of our stocks to watch from now on. Stocks to WatchAlaska Air - (ALK)The stock is testing a strong support around $57.50. If the stock can jump back into the channel, it would be a great time to buy near the support. A stop should be placed under the support line. However, if the stock continues to fall below the line, it becomes a candidate for a short position. The failure of the support would indicate further price drops are likely. JP Morgan Chase - (JPM)Last week, we thought this stock could be a good buy for a swing trade. However, Powell and the Fed ended that prospect (read the analysis here). Now, the stock has become a short sale candidate as the stock has fallen below its support line, and moved back into a minor downtrend. The stop should be placed above the support, now turned resistance, line. Biogen - (BIIB)The stock is in a large symmetrical triangle, so we are watching it for both long and short positions. There has been a slow uptrend since 2016, so the bias is towards the upside. However, traders should wait for a breakout before opening a position either way. Boeing - (BA)The stock has been beaten up because of bad news. If investors believe the fundamentals are still strong, then I would expect the stock to break above the resistance line at $380. This would be a great place to enter a position, with a stop placed below the line. FedEx - (FDX)The stock has fallen below a key level around $180. This sets up the stock for more downside. Because of this, the stock is also a candidate for a short position. SouthWest Airlines - (LUV)SouthWest has been a choppy stock for the last 2 and a half years, but now the stock has fallen below a strong support. This sets the stock for more selling pressure, and thus is a candidate to short. The stop should be placed just above the support line. However, if the stock reaches the stop, then it would be a good idea to go long, with a target of $58. International Paper - (IP)International Paper has been in a downtrend since the beginning of 2018. The stock has recently failed to break the downtrend support, and is starting to clear a key level at $45. The stock looks like it will continue to fall, so it is a short sale candidate. A stop should be placed above the trend line, in this scenario. International Flavors & Fragrance - (IFF)The stock is working on a symmetrical triangle breakout to the downside, but is being held up bey a minor support near $120. If the stock breaks this support, a downtrend is likely and a short position can be opened. Here, a stop should be placed above the bottom blue line of the symmetrical triangle. Abercrombie & Fitch - (ANF)Abercrombie & Fitch has been stock in a 4 year old head and shoulders pattern. If the stock can break the neckline at $28, it sets the stock up for a long uptrend. A stop for this stock should be placed under the $28 neckline. Electronic Arts - (EA)EA is stuck between a resistance at $108 and a support at $75. If the stock fails to clear the $108 hurdle, then I expect the stock to fall towards the $75 support. However, it the stock can break $108, then it would be poised to continue higher. The stop should be placed on the opposite side of the $108 resistance line, depending on which direction the trade goes. HP inc. - (HPQ)HP is sitting right along a $19 support, and the trade can go in either direction. Traders should wait for a clear signal before opening a trade. A stop should be placed above or below the $19 support line. Nisource - (NI)Nisource has been in an uptrend channel since 2016, and is now testing the top resistance. If the stock can clear the resistance, it sets up a good buy signal for a continued uptrend. A stop would be placed under the top resistance line, and would move with the line over time. Posted: 01 Apr 2019 01:27 PM PDT So I'm really not looking into day trading/options trading, moreso just looking into buying ETFs and stacking them up over time in order to get some money when I retire in 30-40 years (I'm 25 right now and want to get a head start on retirement funds). I would have to spend $5-10 every transaction and I've heard robinhood is free on that aspect. Do you guys recommend this app for my type of passive trading or are there any red flags behind this seemingly too good to be true app? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Apr 2019 06:18 AM PDT Good morning r/StockMarket u/bigbear0083 has been handling the news but given changing schedules I will be taking over. Big shoes to fill so please let me know any feedback on how this can be more useful for you. The equity news is based on trending tickers from my news database of 15 million articles. Macro News Dow on track to kick off quarter 200 points higher on strong China data, trade progress (CNBC) https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/01/stock-market-futures-rise-on-strong-china-data-trade-progress.html U.S. Retail Sales Unexpectedly Fall; Prior Reading Revised Up (Bloomberg) U.K. Parliament Seeks to Impose Plan B on May: Brexit Update (Bloomberg) Brexit causes record rise in stockpiling as businesses prepare for worst (Independent) Equity News LYFT - Lyft Inc For those of you who missed this news, LYFT IPO'd. This is significant in that its a major big tech IPO, which have come under criticism for remaining private for longer than some investors believe Silicon Valley should. Secondly, Lyft beat Uber to the IPO - which the LYFT CEO made a point of saying they are still "founder-led" whereas Uber has replaced their AMZN - Amazon Inc. Amazon's investigator into the leaked Bezos pictures has determined that Saudi Arabia was involved. This is significant in that Washington Post uncovered the killing of its journalist and the Trump policy has been unreasonably friendly to Saudi Arabia (really all presidential administrations have), even in wake of the killing of Khashoggi. The belief is that Saudi Arabia, a major investor in AMI (parent company of National Enquirer), was an investor and used that position to try and quiet Bezos, the now owner of Washington Post. MGA - Magna International "Hanon Systems has acquired the fluid pressure and control unit of Magna International, becoming a leading full-line supplier of thermal and energy management systems. http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2019/04/419_266420.html CALM - Cal-Maine Foods Inc "Cal-Maine Foods Inc. reported fiscal third-quarter earnings that beat expectations, although egg prices fell, with the egg producer announcing a major expansion of its cage-free capacity. The stock was still inactive in premarket trade. Net income for the quarter to March 2 fell to $39.8 million, or 82 cents a share, from $96.3 million, or $1.99 a share, in the same period a year ago, which included a tax reform-related benefit. The FactSet EPS consensus was 50 cents. AAPL - Apple Inc Apple has cancelled the AirPower after it not meeting their product standards. Redditors on r/Apple have pointed out that technologically, getting full X-Y movement on a pad is very difficult and rumor was that Apple needed 32 coils to pull it off which is very hard to do. Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 01 Apr 2019 12:29 PM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New FilingsThis table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold. Amended FilingsThis table lists amended filings in the last week, and is useful for monitoring changes in existing investments or when a fund closes a position. I have eliminated all filings with less than a 5% change in ownership. Source: Fintel.io/activists [link] [comments]
Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 01 Apr 2019 12:29 PM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days)Largest Insider Selling (Last 7 Days)Count column is number of transactions.
