Stock Market - 1 Big Reason Why Disney Stock Is Just Getting Started

1 Big Reason Why Disney Stock Is Just Getting Started

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 09:12 AM PDT

The media giant's stock has soared 13.6% over the past five trading days, and there may not be any looking back now. Rick Munarriz (TMFBreakerRick) Apr 20, 2019 at 6:00PM Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) is a market darling again. The media giant's stock is hitting new highs, finally taking out its peak 2015 prices. The stock has moved nearly 14% higher over the past five trading days, a big move for a stock that has been stuck in neutral for most of the past four years.

The shares have been rallying since the investor event in which it offered up the specs for its upcoming Disney+ streaming video platform. Things don't appear to be cooling down anytime soon. Let's go over the big reasons why Disney stock should stay hot.

You can't sell on the news when there's a steady diet of news The old adage of "buy on the rumor and sell on the news" can bite companies after major developments, but for Disney, this is the year when the hits will just keep on coming. Last week's Disney+ news was impressive, but it's hard to sell into the rally when you see what entertainment behemoth has in the pipeline in the coming weeks and months.

Disney will dominate the box office next weekend with Thursday's debut of Avengers: Endgame. Some feel that it will be the year's biggest winner at the box office, and the balance are betting on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as the top draw when it debuts in December.

Disney isn't taking a breather in the nearly eight months between the two releases. There will be Toy Story 4 in June, The Lion King reboot in July, and Frozen 2 in November. Disney already has this year's highest-grossing film in Captain Marvel. By the end of the year, it could have five and possibly six of this year's biggest winners at the box office.

Disney's theme parks segment has become its largest and most reliable business, and things are looking great on that front. The first phase of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens at Disneyland in California near the end of next month. A similar expansion will open at Disney World three months later. Disney is in the process of making major infrastructure and lodging capacity moves to deal with the larger crowds at Disney World, and that is even after bumping its prices higher last month.

We also can't forget that it also recently completed the largest acquisition in Disney's corporate history. The deal for key Fox assets will make the company that has proven its ability to increase the value and exposure of the intellectual properties in its arsenal even more valuable.

We also can't forget that the event that kicked off this rally hasn't really happened. Disney+ won't launch until Nov. 12. It is aggressively priced, but that is just what Disney had to do to turn heads as a latecomer in this thriving niche.

Lay out all of Disney's new movies, theme park additions, and product launches and the market isn't going to be able to catch its breath between needle-moving events. You don't sell on the news when the news keeps coming. https://www.fool.com/investing/2019/04/20/1-big-reason-why-disney-stock-is-just-getting-star.aspx

The most common main trading strategies

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 11:27 AM PDT

1.look for the previous day gainers and if its good news look for a breakout, if its promotion look for a short.

2.look for stocks with earnings releases and trade the surprise if the figure is not as expected.

My question is, are there any other major approaches other than the 2 I just mentioned?

From this, they have changed the game so signifcantly that the Cannabis companies closely behind them will need to race to a) file for patent protection on specific products, and b) announce their own significant deals to stay relevant in the industry.

    Question about stoplosses!

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 01:57 PM PDT

    Giving an example:

I have some ENPH stocks that i bought at 10,06.

The price dropped and it´s now at 9,18.

    So... it dropped around 8%.

The question is, facing a loss of 8% should i assume the loss and sell or should i keep them?

In one hand i did the math and it seems a great company to be in long term. I like the sector and believe i just made a bad entry point.
In other hand, i´ve been reading a lot about stoplosses and most of the articles say i should stoploss at around 7% - 8%.

Thanks for the help! Sry for bad english!

    Financial reports releases

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 09:48 AM PDT

Is the earnings report another name for the income statement? And if it is, it is reported quarterly (4 times a month) and annually in the financial section of the companies profile. And if you scan for companies with earnings released tomorrow you'll find a few companies every day you scan. My question is how is the company's financials organized annually and quarterly (which means performance released after every 3 months) when there is spontaneous earnings releases throughout the year ?

AMD - Advanced Micro Devices - Stock Report

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 09:54 AM PDT

BR Technicals' Technical Analysis Report – Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)

    Published April 17, 2019

    Prepared By Brandon Ross, CMT

Read the report with the charts, and download the PDF here: https://www.brtechnicals.com/amd-advanced-micro-devices-stock-report/

    AMD -Advanced Micro Devices

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is an international semiconductor company located in the heart of Silicon Valley, in California. The stock is in the technology sector, and is in the semiconductor industry. The stock is a member of the S&P 500 and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Many investors attribute the stock's recent success to the cryptocurrency boom.

    AMD Long-Term Analysis

    • This is a chart of the stock's last 36 years.
    • The stock has never enjoyed a long-term trend, and is not a stock you want to keep in your retirement account with the expectation of growth over time.
      • The stock has been at its current price in 1983, 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2006.
    • There is a strong support around $1.75.
    • The recent peak in price occurred where two resistance lines met.
    • On this chart, the stock is a sell.
    • A buy signal is generated if the stock falls back down to $1.75 support.
      • Another signal is generated if the stock breaks the top resistance lines. This would possibly start an uptrend.

    AMD 10-Year Analysis

    • $14 support and $10 support.
    • Current trend began in 2016.
      • Volume has increased up until the stock reached the long-term resistance on the previous chart.
      • RSI and MACD moved to extreme levels, indicating a possible top.
      • Volume has been significantly weaker since peaking.

    AMD 5-Year Analysis

    • The trend began at $2, but paused at $16. This equals a $14 increase.
      • Stock paused in a descending triangle pattern.
      • The breakout occurred around $13, this sets up a target of $27 (which was surpassed).
    • The stock is currently in a small channel.
    • This chart is a HOLD.
      • A sell signal occurs if the channel uptrend support line is broken.
      • Supports are pretty far away from the current price, so it would be more advantageous to sell, then re-buy at a support.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Report & Outlook

The stock has not spent much time above $20, and has never had a smooth rally. Even during the build up of the tech bubble in the 90's, the stock fell more than 60% in 1997, nearly another 60% drop in 1998, and a 54% drop in 1999. The stock recovered each of these times, but it points to the wild volatility the stock has experienced over the last three decades. In fact, the stock has fallen below $2.50 on four separate occasions. This is an example of why buy and hold isn't guaranteed to always work. The stock has been extremely volatile, and a long-term trend has never occurred. AMD is currently the same price as it was in 1983, 2000, 2001, 2005, and 2006.

AMD has reached its long-term resistance line recently, and this was probably the best time to sell the stock. Especially since there are two resistance lines working against it this time. There are a lot of similarities to the previous times the stock hit this resistance line. First, RSI moved into extremely overbought. The MACD also rose above 4, signaling a likely reversal. Then, volume rose on the way up, peaked at the top, and started to fall afterwards. The one significant difference is the MACD indicator did not fall below 0 this time around. This might be a signal that the stock could retest the trend line once again.

The current outlook for the stock is HOLD. While I think it is very likely the stock has peaked this cycle, I want to let the medium term trend play out before calling it a sell. The current trend has not yet broken, and it may be able to drive the stock above the resistance line at $32.50.

A sell signal is generated if the stock falls below the trend line beginning in 2016 (third chart above). If this occurs, the next supports to look for are at $16 and $10. When you look at the chart, the supports don't look too far away, but selling at $20 is better than letting the stock fall to $16, a 20% decline, or $10, a 50% decline. Then, when you put the stock in the context of the 38 year old chart, (the top chart), then there is a possibility the stock can fall to $1.50-2.00. This stock is extremely volatile, so getting out at the right time is key to making money.

There are two possible long-term buy signals, and by long-term, I mean a few years. The first comes from a bottom below $2. Of course, when a stock falls this low, investors are extremely bearish, and it will take some guts to buy any stock at this price. Additionally, it took the stock 20 years to reach this support again, after touching it in 1990. The other buy signal comes from a break in the long-term resistance. This signal is generated if the stock can make it back up and past $35. I would expect a long-term uptrend if this were to occur, but I also expect there to be a lot of volatility.
