Should I let me manager leave during our busy season for another job to make more money and then come back after 8 weeks?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 05:44 PM PDT

I spent a lot of time and money training and investing into a manager and I was notified he plans to leave in a month to do another short-term job for 8 weeks because it would pay really well. My questions is, should I even allow him to come back after that eight weeks? He's great at what he does but I just feel a little betrayed, especially since I had plans for him to open another location for us next year.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Reddit, I want to start a small IT services company and don't have the budget to directly invest in branding. Would a wordpress theme be a good way to start for the first 6 months?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:40 AM PDT

My goal is to focus on attracting customers and investing that money in rebranding the company. Do you think a wordpress theme is a good place to start and are there any alternatives that are even better for my company. The website will be purely information providing and the option to contact us for our services. I will run paid marketing campaings with it.

Furthermore, thinking about buying a logo to start with via Fiverr. Any better suggestions in this regards?

Sorry for the English as it is not my first language.

    Employees fighting

What do you do when employees are not getting along for some reason and starting to make a scene in front of customers. Neither can be fired right now. Long story. I'm thinking a meeting to talk things over? What if one refuses?

Taking over a Chipotle clone, thoughts/suggestions?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 05:11 AM PDT

There are 3 Chipotle clones owned by the same guy (He's a real estate agent who owns about 3 other businesses as well). He lives in a neighboring city 1 hour away from me where his other 2 locations are. He said his reason for selling is he doesn't have the time to keep driving over to my city to keep up with the business and it's not as profitable as he had hoped.

He said his typical monthly net profit is 2-3k, I will be confirming this when looking at his books in the coming days.

Reviews for his business are pretty positive, most negative reviews touch on: 1. meat too seasoned/salty 2. Inconsistent portions (1 visit they get a lot of chicken in their bowl, the next a skimpy portion) 3. Staff being too slow or unfriendly

I feel as if all of these negative reviews would be an easy fix.

I'd be taking over as owner/manager so I'd be in the store 7 days a week and feel that I could improve the product.

He also said that I had the freedom to change the menu, add menu items etc.. since he only has 3 locations and doesn't plan on expanding in the near future he isn't limiting me to his menu items. My plan would be to add some unique housemade sauces to give the tacos/bowls more flavor.

I'd then by next Spring like to add homemade ice cream as a secondary product. I'm already experienced in making ice cream and this location has a very nice covered patio area that isn't really utilized well by just selling tacos. The space has plenty of room to add in a dipping cabinet very easily.

I've been in the restaurant business for about 10 years, but never as owner/manager. Highest position has been Asst. Manager. Never really wanted to progress to be manager at a place I couldn't call my own.

    Thoughts? Any input is welcomed!

Have you bought or used any web tool offering from a business that is more like a side project by a developer (and you knowing that this was a side project). Did you, as a customer, have any hesitations before you bought the product? How was your overall experience post-purchase?

A friend and I are trying to open up a small rental store and we have some copyright questions.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 10:51 PM PDT

This very well could belong somewhere else, so if you know a better place to ask, let us know.

Anyway, a friend and I are trying to open up a video rental store. We both have a good idea where to look to for business management help and understand enough ourselves that we aren't stumbling in the dark. The one thing we are having issues finding a definitive answer on is the copyright issue.

We are aware that there are royalty issues involved, but we have no idea on who we need to call or get into contact with to set these deals up. We've tried to find the answer online, but can't find a coherent answer.

We are aware that this post may be inappropriate for this sub, and if it is, we'll delete it. All we are really hoping for is a push in the right direction to figure this out.

Could someone advise the right prices for digital products along with Google Ads daily budget?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:55 AM PDT

Hello, could someone please take a detailed look at https://quasimodosoftware.com/products ? I set the prices more like $5-placeholders since I cannot evaluate their possible value.

I used to sell for a while on Amazon where I had set each product to be $1 because I hadn't spent anything on publishing and advertising on Amazon.

Now, I launched my own website to sell my programs. Initially, I wanted to sell them for $2 taking into account the cost of hosting and domain but I also need to assign a daily budget on Google Ads so I set the prices to $5 and a daily budget to $2.64.

Today I have read that Google would be ineffective even with $5 daily budget which means I cannot really test it with low budget.

So I have 3 related questions:

    1. What is the real price (in your opinion) for each of the 3 paid products?
    2. What minimum daily budget for Google Ads would you advise?
    3. What price would you recommend for each of the 3 products?

Looking for help in scaling an online and offline survey solution

    Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:34 AM PDT

    Hello,

I along with my team created FeedbacQ, a solution to conduct surveys through web, Android/iOS apps or iPads. More details here https://www.feedbacq.co

The solution is currently being used by some players in the hospitality and healthcare industry. They are using it to collect feedback from customers while they checkout after the service is received. They are able to analyze the feedback and get real inputs on parameters that need improvement.

At the same time, I'm unable to get enough traction online. There are visitors, but conversion is quite slow. Looking for help on this front.

Your time is greatly appreciated in advance.

    Thank you!

Selling a "department" of my business to another business?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 01:46 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I am about to start a new business and I have a question about offering multiple products/services.

I am starting my business by offering a service instead of a product because it sounds like that is the best way to get off the ground. I have some products in development that I can start offering much later once I have some profit to help fund their development.

So let's say my business at some point in time will offer two things: a product and a service. One day I may decide to transition the company over to just product development where we no longer offer the service. My question is: can I sell that part of my business off to another business so they can continue what I started? The main reason why I would want this is so I don't have to suddenly drop all of the customers using my service. I feel that would reflect badly on my company in the long run.

I am thinking about this now because I want to know if I should actually make two separate companies: one for the service and one for the product. I don't feel that this is ideal, but if I can't sell off my service at some point, I may want to do this.

50yr old small company but no FB page

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 07:11 PM PDT

Wondering if anyone has advice on how to handle this. I work at a company that's been around for 50 years. They have never had a public Facebook page, but since FB doesn't let you advertise without one anymore, they want one. Problem is it's a very small company and we don't have the staff to be creating content constantly and getting the page up and going, and it doesn't look great to be an established company and then have a FB page with a few likes and relatively no content.

Also, we're an education financing company and my boss is concerned that we'd primarily have students contacting the page for inquires and customer service and our office doesn't manage the student communication (that's done from a different office which is an entirely separate entity but under the same name). Our purpose for the page would be to generating B2B leads with schools.

Anyone have experience dealing with a similar situation or advice?

[NY, USA] New hire reporting for one-person S Corp

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 01:22 PM PDT

I established an S Corp in 2018, it started having profits in 2019 and I want to start paying myself salary (I drew no salary in 2018).

I did not register myself as a new employee when I started the s corp:

    https://www.tax.ny.gov/bus/doingbus/hire.htm

    1. (Unlikely) Is there any exemption to new hire reporting for one-person s corp?
    2. Do I have to declare a hire date in 2018, or is a hire date somewhere in 2019 acceptable, as long as it is before I start drawing salary?

Quick question I have for a school project.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 12:46 PM PDT

Hey guys, hope everyone is having a good weekend! For a school project, me and my team have to create our own business and answer questions. Our business/product is iPhone cases made of plastic and other waste materials from the ocean. My role is in team management. Here is my prompt:

    • Identify your management team. What expertise does each team member brings to the enterprise? What will be the duties of each?
      • Identify any other people who will contribute to management or consulting expertise
      • What other employees will you need? Number, education, skills?

So far, I kind of have a very rough draft and what I will discuss:

In terms of a business that operates around making phone cases, I know I need a CEO, A COO, and a CFO.

The CEO- Head of everything, in charge of all operations and meeting with clients.

COO- In charge of the production and marketing of products. Reports to the CEO

CFO- In charge of all the financials. Manages money for wages, resources, machinery, etc.

Additionally, I think I need to hire someone as a designated person for all the marketing and advertising.

We also need someone to be in charge of being in contact with large manufacturers.

All people I expect to be graduates of the college, with skills/degrees in Marketing, Business Administration (?)

I think we need a small business consultant, who will further assist in operations. Additionally, a lawyer (?) and an Engineer to design/make/test the case.

Is there anything I need to add to each role? Does each role make sense? Do I need more roles? What kind of skills does each person need? What would you guys add? Thanks so much guys.

DISCLAIMER: I know its lame to ask you guys to do my whole project, I am just asking for input/advice because I want to get a good grade and not let down my team. If you guys know any resources or information I can use to learn more about management for an iPhone case company, let me know, thanks !

How to LEGALLY start an online business In Texas?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 08:58 AM PDT

I live in Texas, however, I am unfamiliar with the process of starting an online business legally. I am hoping to sell homemade jewelry through Etsy/an online website and it will be a sole proprietorship. What steps should I take?

Will I need to file taxes for the business? How do I go through the taxing process? Will I need to register the business name?

I've tried to do research, but I get lost, so I need some guidance.

How to hire as much as I can employees?

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 12:35 PM PDT

I am running a cleaning company based in London, and I'm in partnership with the biggest brand in the country which provides all kinds of domestics services. I'm looking to hire as much as I can men or women willing to work as self-employed in the cleaning industry.

The job is simple. Usually, I train every each person on a minimal standard quality, make them a profile in our back-end system, provide them with an app and put them on schedule. The employee has to keep track of his jobs through the app and provide a service on different clients throughout the day. He/she has to use public transport to travel between the addresses, and that's it.

I'm offering an excellent salary (its paid for each worked hour), occupancy of a minimum 40 hours per week (this may escalate 60+ if the cleaner wants to work more), flexible schedule (the employee decides when and how much he/she wants to work), bonuses for an excellent performance or cross-sells of different services (f.x. oven/windows/carpet cleaning, gardening, etc.) and for none UK citizens I help with applying for NiNo and opening a bank account.

I have no limit or cap on how many employees I can hire. The job is simple, and anyone can do it (previous experience is not taken into consideration). Since I'm a Bulgarian, my recruiting focus is currently targeted only there, but I wish to expand more and more. I've tried posting a job post in a couple of jobs searching websites but no success so far. I'm currently working on a simple portfolio website, but I'm not very sure if that's going to help much. Also, I believe social media is not the right place to advertise such kind of job. I'm looking for any advice that may or may not help. If you need extra info about the job and what is the process of working, please ask in the comments, and I'll try to give as much as I can, explanation.

    Thank you!

Brick & Mortar Retail: Questions about Selling Houseplants & Other Trendy Plants

    Posted: 21 Apr 2019 11:59 AM PDT

Hello! I own a brick and mortar retail store that sells a wide variety of eco-conscious, zero waste, and natural/organic products. We're expanding and our new frontage includes a large wall of windows. Over the years, we've had a lot of customer requests for houseplants, succulents, air plants, terrariums, etc.

I'm considering carrying a selection of easy-care houseplants that are especially good for indoor air quality (snake plant, spider plant, peace lily), as well as general easy care houseplants (pothos, philodendron) and some of the hyper trendy plants (succulents, air plants).

I'd love to hear from anyone selling these types of plants in a retail setting! Nurseries, florists, garden shops, etc.

    - What do you think of my plant selections? (Any other low hanging fruit I should be considering? Plants that are big profit centers? What's trendy these days?)

    - Where do you get your stock? Who are the major wholesalers? Or is local sourcing typical?

    - Pricing: An employee of mine used to work for a local florist. She suggested that plants tend to have a higher than average markup due to the care and maintenance required to sell them in good condition. 66% margin rather than the retail-typical 50% margin. Has that been true in your experience?

Any information appreciated! Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer. I've been in retail for a long time, but selling houseplants feels like a very different ball game.
