My parked RV was smashed into by an SUV Posted: 08 Apr 2019 03:58 AM PDT My 20 ft class C RV was parked on the street here in Brooklyn NY. I don't live in it. I was heading off to work yesterday when a bystander somehow got my wife's attention and we saw that an SUV had made room for itself at the rear of the RV. It was a mess. Their front was totalled; Driver air bags deployed. My RV was compacted a about a foot and a half in. I called 911 and my wife stayed to wait for them. She contacted our insurance who said the other party is at fault and will pay. The owner of the SUV eventually returned, apologized and explained that his wife was ill at around 4am, drove to the pharmacy for medicine and upon returning was cut off my a bicyclist and to avoid that person slammed into the back of the RV. He spoke to the police. The police took took down the info. His SUV got towed. My RV is still on the street. I'm afraid to drive it the way it is. So what do I do? The police report will be ready in 3 days. Would their insurance pay for repairs on a 1979 RV? That would cost more than the RV is worth. If the only pay me for the RV.. I don't think that is fair. I only have liability insurance on the RV. Where would I have my RV towed in the meanwhile? It isn't like Brooklyn is full of RV repair shops. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2019 11:57 PM PDT Hello all! Does anyone know if it is possible to insure a car in a different state than you live in? Story: I go to school in PA and my license is from jersey I have been saving up the past few years and want to buy a second car. my parents who's plan I'm on now don't see the need for a second car (and they right) but I want one. so I would have to get my own insurance not on the family plan at my license residence but sign it to my address in PA where I do not have formal PA residency. For a totaled vehicle, does the acv include sales tax, title, and tag? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 12:39 PM PDT I've been reading that you can ask for sales tax, title , and tag costs for a vehicle that is totaled. When an adjuster gives you a payout price, does this already include those things? I'm in Florida, so the sties I have visited said that it would be covered. You just need to ask. The other party was at fault, and they have progressive insurance. Do you have any tips on getting them to increase the payout amount for a totaled vehicle? [link] [comments] |
My insurance agent let my Auto insurance policy lapse. Advice? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 09:02 PM PDT Firstly the back story. So I recently moved to a major city from my small college town about an hour down the road which meant I also changed states. I had an insurance policy with State Farm before moving and simply went to the local State Farm agent about a day after moving in. When I got there, started up my new policy and they said they'd handle the case change over no problem and that I just had to pay my first month. However they were having technical difficulty while I was there so they took my information, gave me my receipt so I could register my vehicle and start driving around. However a few days later I noticed they hadn't charged me for my new plan, but assumed they were letting my last month with my previous agent finish before switching. So I let them do it only to see a few weeks later I got charged by my old agent, and when I called them, they said they never heard anything from my new agent and that there was no movement to switch me over, but they called my new agent to follow up. A few moments later I get a call from the new one to try get some further details, and that they were working on it and there was a glitch or something meaning I wasn't changed over and was still under my old agent, and that they were fixing the issue, but would call me back later that day. About a week later I still hadn't heard back from them, so I call them to follow up and it seems they were "still facing the issues but thought they'd fixed it" and took my payment information again. About a week or two later I noticed they still hadn't charged me and call back again to find out they had a different glitch that failed to go through but they think they'd finally fixed it. A few days later I see they're my active agent in the application, but now there's a bill for the full insurance policy when I'd set up to be charged monthly (like I'd signed the paperwork and my new agent had verbally confirmed several times on the phone that my insurance would only be about $160 a month). So they said they'd try figure it out but I never heard back from them, so I called the national help line told them the situation and they said they'd get them to reach out. Still nothing. I tried calling the agent a few days but it was after hours so I called the national line again and they were really apologetic and said they'd try get them to follow up. After about a week or two still nothing and the deadline for the full policy bill is approaching, so I called the agent again and tell them they said I'd only pay the $160 etc. And that they were supposed to have gotten back to me and there was no way I could pay the full policy plan all at once, and they said they'd look into it and get back to me for the deadline (April 4th they tell me). On April 3rd I still hadn't heard anything back, so I follow up and say they were supposed to get back and it's unfair that I've been pushed to the deadline and they've done nothing. So they say they'll get on it, and the next day (on the deadline) they call saying I need to sign a paper saying I'll pay monthly, and they'll email it. I fill it out right away and send it back, and there's radio silence again. The deadline passes and I assume they're sorting it out, but when I check the app I still owe the full amount, and the deadline has passed, so I rent a car to try avoid driving uninsured. And today I call the national line because I still see nothing has been done, only to have them tell my my plan actually lapsed on the 2nd and find out I've been driving uninsured for 2 days, and I try tell the national line that my agent told me they'd fix it, that it's unfair and not my fault that happened, and they keep telling me just pay the full amount and contact the agent tomorrow to fix it, without any sympathy or willingness to remedy the situation. Is there anything I can do to avoid the lapse being my fault? And how do I avoid legal rammifications for driving uninsured for two days? Is there any legal action I can take against them? What advice do you have for me? TL;DR - I moved, my new agent messed me around for three months, overcharged me, gave me wrong dates, and as a result my insurance lapsed. What do? [link] [comments] |
[MO] Motorcycle stolen, will insurance cover loss? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 06:32 PM PDT Today my brother was riding his motorcycle home from grabbing a bite to eat. He pulled up right in front his house, ran inside to grab his gloves (took about 20 seconds). As he was walking out the door a car pulled up, a man jumped out, got on his motorcycle and took off with it. Attempted to run and catch him but the car & bike were gone. He has comprehensive/full coverage. It covers theft but given the situation would a insurance company likely cover this? [link] [comments] |
Kitchen and Bathroom remodel and notifying insurance company? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 10:18 PM PDT I recently replaced my MDF cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom with custom made solid wood ones. Custom made in the USA. I also added quartz countertops to the kitchen and bathroom. Do I need to notify the insurance company about these changes? I would hate to have my house burn down and insurance company will only pay for mass produced MDF cabinets. [link] [comments] |
Rental Car While My Car Is Repaired Posted: 07 Apr 2019 09:16 PM PDT Recently my car was involved in a collision with a deer. Our insurance provides a rental car while my car is repaired. If I just use my wife's car while they fix my car without using the rental, will most insurance companies pay the amount that would have been used for the rental to me? [link] [comments] |
NEXPLANON not fully covered, STD lab tests denied by insurance Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:51 PM PDT Hi everyone, This is my first post and I hope I'm posting in the right place. So I decided to get the arm implant birth control and was told by my doctor's office that due to ACA, it should be covered at 100%. Thinking back on it, I should have asked my doctor's office to ask my insurance company before the procedure for a definitive answer, but unfortunately, I didn't do that. So a few months after I get the implant, I receive a bill from my doc's office for the amount that insurance didn't pay for. They billed insurance about $3000 for the whole procedure (doc's visit, procedure itself, labs, etc) and insurance paid for about $2000, leaving me with a bill of about $1000. I went over my schedule of benefits and according to it, I should be covered "100% of preferred allowance" for preventative care services as outlined by ACA, including contraceptive methods for women. And so I called the insurance company about it, and they said the reason it wasn't 100% covered was because the codes that the doc's office used were the correct codes for the procedure, but didn't show that it was a "preventative care service". I took a look at the EOB, and nothing was denied. It just wasn't covered in full. Is this correct? Idk if this matters, but the insurance also isn't through the Marketplace. It's student healthcare from my college. Also, unrelated to the birth control, a couple months ago I went to a gyno's office because I thought I had a vaginal infection, due to redness and pain in the area. The doctor was pretty sure I was having my first outbreak of herpes, and ordered labs to confirm. Turns out, I did contract herpes and what I thought was a vaginal infection was my first outbreak. My insurance is supposed to cover sickness and injury, and so I assumed the doctor's visit and labs fell under this category. However, my insurance denied the claims and I owe almost $1000 for everything. So again I called insurance, and they said the claims were denied because according to the codes, what I had done was not preventative care. To them it looked like I was having a routine screening. I explained to them that the reason I had lab tests done was because I thought I had an infection due to the symptoms, which in my opinion should fall under sickness and injury. So I asked the doctor's office to resubmit the claim to reflect this, but it was denied again. What are my options at this point? Thank you guys in advance for the the help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:26 PM PDT I got an esurance quote online through my phone while at work, so didn't have time to purchase it. When I got home and checked the quote again it had gone up $15, is there a reason? [link] [comments] |
My insurance company sent me multiple email and changed the deadline they said I can respond Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:08 PM PDT I got into an accident recently. I got a letter from my insurance company that the other party has filed a claim and I need to respond within "7 day" of the mail date which is this coming Wednesday. However, yesterday I received an email from them saying that my insurance agents have been trying to reach me without success and that they need a response within 48 hours of this email which is tomorrow, Monday at 3pm. I have a couple of attorneys that I was waiting to talk to on Monday about the situation. If I were to respond to my insurance on Tuesday and they already reached a decision on Monday, would I be able to point out the earlier letter they sent me saying the deadline was Wednesday. If they cancel my coverage due to non response, would I still be able to get coverage from a different insurance company? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2019 07:54 PM PDT Today I was parked outside of my girlfriends apartment complex for about 5-6 hours while we went out for the day. When I returned there was a group of people who were moving out of their apartment loading up a van right next to my car. They were friendly and we exchanged a bit of small talk while I dropped my bag off in my car. Then I went up to my gf's apartment to watch a movie. When I got done I decided to go home, but when I got to my car there were gouges on the bottom of the the driverside door and rocker panel and a big scratch on the driverside front fender. Both of these damaged sections are scratched down to metal, and a few of them are dented in a noticeable amount. There was yellow paint residue in all the damaged areas that looked to be the same as their moving dolley. Unfortunately there was no camera to catch the licence plate of the van, and the apartment complex's front office isn't helping. What would be the best way to go about getting this fixed? I don't know much about insurance or the process of a claim. My car is still on my parents insurance. I'm not sure how much it helps but the car is a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. [link] [comments] |
Employer group term life insurance Posted: 07 Apr 2019 02:46 PM PDT So my mom was forced to retire due to cancer in 2014. She was paying for a group term policy that she was paying into. Unfortunately we don't know if she paid after she retired. We won't know for a few weeks until the paperwork gets sent out. She was paying into a police through NEA and it was about 20k but in 05 she also enrolled into the NEA Group term plan. Do these plans Carry into retirement if you don't pay? We are curious what to expect as her primary policy is going to my dad to help him out but the others are assigned to me my brother and my dad. The group term was 50k. Edit: the NEA wouldn't disclose any information just sending out forms. We have no access to any of this information yet. [link] [comments] |
Lapse in coverage and other driver reported wrong date of accident Posted: 07 Apr 2019 06:29 PM PDT I was involved in a car accident around the end of February. During this time, I discovered I had a lapse in insurance due to recently moving to a nearby city and my insurance renewal being sent to my old address. The other driver and I decided to not involve insurance. He gave me an estimate of the fix and I asked if he can get a second opinion from a different place. He stopped communicating with me at this point. About 3 weeks after we last spoke, I get an letter from my insurance saying he filed a claim. He claimed the accident happened a week ago (about 4 weeks after I renewed my insurance). There was no police report. The letter from my insurance said to respond to them within 7 days from receipt of the letter. I received it on Wednesday of last week and I had been contacting attorneys as much as I can. I have a 9-5 so I can only squeeze in whatever calls I can during my breaks. One attorney was interested in my case but he said he did not have license to practice in my county and referred me to someone else. I was waiting until Monday to reach out to his referral about my next step until I got an email from my insurance company on saturday night, that due to my non-response they would come to a liability decision within 48 hours if I do not respond. That would make my deadline to be around 3pm on Monday. One attorney I contacted said that if the other person initiated the claim on the wrong date and no police report were filed then there is a good chance it would work out. Obviously I dont want to take a chance on being caught with insurance fraud but at the same time I am worried about having my license suspended, though some have said that it might just be an infraction. My concern right now is, if I do not respond to my insurance company, I know they will probably cancel my coverage. But will this prevent me from buying insurance with a different company? Would I be able to respond to my insurance company on Wednesday as stated in their original letter rather than this new Monday deadline? As in, if they send me an email on Monday saying they reached a decision based on my non-response, would it do anything if I tell them the original deadline was Wednesday. [link] [comments] |
gps satellite surveillance Insurance.. Posted: 07 Apr 2019 06:26 AM PDT My dad's friends house burnt down, and they claimed on their insurance... The insurance came back and said they checked GPS satellite surveillance and they saw a man throw a petrol bomb in a car in front of the house, to cause the fire... they will cover it so that's fine but I'm mind blown... There is 24-hour GPS satellite surveillance? WTF have I been living under a rock or? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2019 05:43 PM PDT I tried to use my Medi-Cal at urgent care on Friday. They informed me that Medi-Cal is my secondary and the state shows that I have Blue Shield as my primary. I have not had Blue Shield since 2015-2016 under my parent's insurance through my Dad's Standford Healthcare Alliance. Since then, SHA has switched to Aetna. When I called SHA they were shocked to hear the state system shows that since they went to Aetna in 2016. I called Medi-Cal and they had me fax over a Letter of Termination from Blue Shield which I did. I am hoping to get a hold of them tomorrow but if this is not resolved I don't know how to proceed. Nobody will see me since I don't have my "primary" Blue Shield insurance card even though I am no longer covered by them and haven't been for 3 years. Has anyone else had this experience? I am sick and I really need to see someone soon. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:13 AM PDT On 3/23 I was involved in an accident where my car was scratched/dented by the other party. Their insurance (Prudential) accept liability. On 3/28 I was involved in another accident where my car was totaled. I am in possession of the vehicle and the damage from the 3/23 incident is clearly visible still. I do not plan on getting repairs done for my car in its current state. How can I go about receiving a check from Prudential that doesn't have the repair shop listed on it? I know Prudential will want to go through them, is there anything I can do to get around that? [link] [comments] |
Letting friend drive my uninsured car?? Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:20 AM PDT I'm wondering what happens if I let my friend use my old car which is no longer insured. If he crashes, is he responsible, or am I, the owner? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Apr 2019 05:42 AM PDT My car was stolen early this morning from a hotel parking lot. Authorities and insurance called. Other than that, should I notify any other agency? [link] [comments] |
