Is this considered a hit and run? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 11:53 AM PDT I went out to my vehicle which had been parked on the side of a one-way street (parking on left hand side) and found that my car had been damaged. Looks like somebody hit the side of my car, possibly with a trailer or something and took off. No note left, and nobody was around to ask if they had seen anything. My deductible is $1000. Is this something I have to pay out of pocket? Or can I run it through insurance? Will my premiums raise if I run it through insurance? I'm probably going to take it in for a quote today, but looks to me like it will be at least $2k+ I'm not sure if I have to fill out a collision report.. I've been looking into it and it looks like I probably should. Any help at all would be appreciated. I'm in Ontario, Canada Pics of the car: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 11:12 AM PDT Her teachers and I suspect my 14yo daughter has ADD and anxiety, but insurance says testing her is not medically necessary because there are other ways to determine this. I called the pediatrician's office, and they couldn't think of a "more suitable approach." The pediatrician had referred us to a psychologist, who recommended testing. She submitted it for prior approval, and insurance denied it. We've already started the appeal, but what do we do if it's denied? The out of pocket cost is north of $1200. [link] [comments] |
Best way to find cheapest car to insure? Posted: 13 Apr 2019 01:02 AM PDT Maryland. I have a 21 y/o who needs a car. How would you go about find out how to categorize which cars are cheapest to insure? He had an at fault accident 25 months ago where insurance paid out 50k to the other party,. No tickets at all. Just the accident. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 06:12 PM PDT Hello everyone, so a few months ago- January I rear ended someone. I wasn't speeding but this man jumped in front of me and slammed on his brakes. I of course slammed on mine as hard as I could and I slid into him. We pulled into a parking lot to exchange info. The man driving the car did not have any ID, was not on the person's car insurance policy, and he barely spoke English. He refused to give us(My husband and I) his name. I snapped a couple pictures of him and the damage done to both cars. He said that he was fine and was not injured and he needed to get his "friend's kid" to school. There was a little boy in the backseat and he also said he was okay. The man took pictures of my car- but not his, our insurance info and left. I live in Las Vegas and police here do not respond to vehicle crashes unless there is an injury- plus my husband didn't want to be a dick and get the guy arrested while he took a kid to school. We were on our way to a prenatal appointment, and when we got to the office the owner of the cat&policy called my husband. He didn't tell me about this until a day or so later because I was very shook up. He said she told him that she wanted us to pay her cash money and leave insurance out of everything. My husband said no but did offer to pay for the /very/ minimal damage to her bumper which may or may not have been there before we even hit him. She then said that she has back problems from a previous accident and that she is on disability from it..but she didn't know "if she was going to do that to us because we seem like very nice people." She told my husband that she'd give us another call after she figured out what she wanted to do. About a month went by and finally we got a notice from Allstate, her insurance about the claim. They called my husband even though I was the one driving. He gave them a statement but they never reached out to get one from me even though I'm sure my husband offered to give them my number. About a week after that Statefarm- our insurance contacts us and asks us to report the claim. I didn't even want to because the damage done to my car is basically non-existent. There is a crack in my front bumper and the headlight seal on driver side popped so condensation got inside and made it foggy. Not a huge deal for me as I didn't plan on keeping the car past the end of the year anyhow. Both my husband and i gave a recorded statement to the claims adjuster that day. Didn't hear anything for about 2 weeks when we got a letter in the mail saying that our insurance is accepting 75% liability and their insurance is accepting 25%. No indication that our policy were to go up in price or not. About 2-3 weeks after that I get an email saying that the claim has been transferred to the injury loss department, or whatever it is called because the guy is reporting soft tissue damage. I don't see how it's possible because like I said we SLID and barely tapped the guy. I didn't even smack my steering wheel and both my husband and I have not felt any injuries since the incident. When I spoke with this claims department guy he said the man had retained a lawyer(out of Seattle???) and so they needed some photos of my car. I sent him two from the front, 2 from the sides, and 1 from above looking down at it in the broad daylight. The man said he had no idea why he was claiming injuries because DUH i didn't hit him that hard. Fast forward to today, when I get another notice in the mail saying that it has been handed over to SUI for investigation. Like I have no idea what the hell is going on..why would my insurance company say "Oh yes we are liable for this much" but then send it to 2 more departments afterward?? [link] [comments] |
Insurance didn't do a perfect job in fixing damage, what should I do? Need some advice. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:13 PM PDT My actual post here with pictures: https://www.reddit.com/r/WRX/comments/bclqw2/insurance_didnt_do_a_perfect_job_in_fixing_damage/ Got rear ended about 5-6 weeks ago. Person who rear ended me took liability, but I went through my insurance to get it fixed; my insurance charged the other person's insurance. I went to a collision shop recommended by my insurance to get the bumper fixed. They fixed it, but didn't do a perfect job. Keep in mind, this was a brand new 2019 WRX with about 6k miles on it. It's been about a month now since it got fixed. At the time they fixed it, I knew it was imperfect but I just did not had the time to fight it (had to move to a different state due to military assignment). Here are a couple of pics of the car today, obviously you can see the imperfections where the damage was supposedly fixed. I also post a pic of the initial damage below. Please tell me what you think and if I should contact my insurance to get the bumper redone. The sink on the left side of the rear bumper isn't really as deep as it looks, by touch, it's a little more sinked in than the right (good/undamaged) side. The thing is, the paint job brings out the imperfection/highlights of the damaged passed. If you take a close look at where they fixed the damage, like an in-person look upclose, you can see the swirl marks/scratch marks embedded in the area even though they painted over it. Self caused damage to car body Posted: 12 Apr 2019 11:57 AM PDT I stupidly used car jack incorrectly and damaged the side of the body. I think I'll be happier if I had the damage repaired, even though it is just minor. I was wondering if I should go through insurance or pay out of pocket. If going through insurance, what sort of rate increase would I see and for how long? Will it go on the carfax report? Any other concerns of getting insurance involved?

Recommendations for local insurance brokers for auto and homeowner's in the San Diego area? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:40 PM PDT The carrier I've been with for ~15 years (State Farm) decided to substantially hike my auto rates for no apparent reason (no recent tickets, accidents, etc) so it's time I start shopping around again. For the sake of my sanity, I've decided to not pull quotes individually from each carrier and go with a broker. The number of local brokers with great online reviews is overwhelming and I need help narrowing down who I should get quotes from. Preferably the broker(s) who can provide quotes from the maximum amount of carriers, hopefully including USAA since I keep reading great things about them. Also, should I just pick one broker or get quotes from several? As mentioned in the title, I'm looking for both auto and homeowner's since typically there's a discount when buying both through the same carrier. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:55 PM PDT Hello all, I recently had an accident and the other insured driver's insurance company (nationwide) has already claimed fault for the accident. They told me my vehicle (2005 GMC yukon) was totaled in the process. They gave me a CCC valuation report for my vehicle that has the normal issues of condition being lowered compared to the others. That's not my question though, as there are plenty of other posts about this. My question is for anyone that is familiar with the valuation reports. On my report, in the notes section, it shows where the first adjuster entered in all his information about the condition of my vehicle. The entries are time stamped. Later in the same day, I see that the total loss adjuster (who is in a different state) went in and changed the condition. When I asked the total loss adjuster why it would show this, she got really defensive, said she did not change it, and kinda started yelling at me claiming I am calling her a liar, which I did not, I only questioned why it would say she changed it when she says she just skipped over it and the notes were automatically added. I wanted to see if this was actually true or not, because the way she reacted makes me think I had caught her in a lie. Just trying to get my ducks in a row. Any help from people familiar with this valuation tool would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Comprehensive coverage question Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:46 PM PDT I have full Comprehensive coverage from gieco on 2018 Toyota highlander.(I'm in CA) While at the gym, driver side window was busted, glass everywhere even found in the children's car seats. My insurance issued a $585 check to cover the window and the side little side dent caused by robber who got away with a ipad mini in back used for kids entertainment. My question is does my comprehensive coverage cover a car detail due to the glass and the children's car seat replacement? [link] [comments] |
Home Inurance approved claim for hail damage, but won’t replace the warranty. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 04:24 PM PDT We had a brand new roof installed six months ago. We paid for the GAF Gold Pledge warranty which covers the roofing system from defects for 50 years, including the labor. It added about 10% to the cost of the roof. A hail storm came through last month and totaled the roof. Our home owners insurance approved the claim and sent over their Xactimate estimate. However, it doesn't include replacing the warranty. The claims adjuster said they won't cover the cost of the warranty. Is this normal? I think the warranty is part of the roof system. Is this something I can negotiate with my insurance and get them to replace? [link] [comments] |
how can I lower my car insurance rate? Posted: 12 Apr 2019 02:16 PM PDT My car insurance company literally doubled my rate after an accident, and I cannot afford this amount. a) is there a standard length of time after which I can expect my rate to drop and the accident will no longer count against me? and b) what can I do now to lower my rate in the meantime? Of course I know I need to speak with someone from the insurance company, but it would be helpful to at least have some idea of what I could ask for. I already have the lowest amount of coverage on everything (collision, comprehensive, liability, etc) so I'm not sure what else I could do. I'm also not sure if switching car insurance companies would actually help, since a new company might penalize me just as severely for this accident, and I've read that a lot of companies lure people in with low rates and then jack them way up when it's time to renew in 6 months. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:53 AM PDT Inspired from this post Curious, generally speaking. It seems like it would be virtually impossible to win a vehicle crash lawsuit in VA unless you weren't even in your car and it was parked 100% properly somewhere. How do insurers handle claims in pure contributory negligence states, auto or otherwise? [link] [comments] |
USA-NY & CT insurance/registration pickle Posted: 12 Apr 2019 11:27 AM PDT I hope this is an appropriate sub for this. A car that was purchased in NY and financed (not leased) is being moved to CT. Both my name and my son's name are on the title and I believe the NY registration. He tried to transfer the registration to CT and was told it was much more involved than just having all of the required paperwork. He doesn't call specifically what they need from me but either I need to go with him or do something with regards to the paperwork. Our auto policy was up March 1 and he purchased his own policy in CT that is in effect. The NY registration expired today and we renewed it this week in NY because it was about to expire. But now that he lives in CT, has insurance in CT, but car is registered in NY we are getting red-flagged. What is the correct way to straighten this out? I am on hold with CT DMV, estimated wait time 75 minutes lol. [link] [comments] |
Expanding Medicare to 40 and older. Posted: 12 Apr 2019 11:23 AM PDT Just what the title says. Has anyone looked into expanding medicare enrollment age to say 40 yrs old. Obviously taxes would have to go up. Is this a feasible solution to the health insurance problem we have in this country or not. Any ideas for why it may or may not work? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:30 AM PDT I am 26 years old, I've had my P&C license as well as my life and health license in Pennsylvania for 4 months. I've been working at a small local agency as a salesperson for that same amount of time. I did not graduate from College although I did attend. I think this is the industry I want to stay in but I am wondering what career options I have to consider. Any advice is welcome, thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:46 AM PDT Hopefully someone can help me out. My gf and I are looking at getting a car for her and are at the point of getting insurance. She was on a policy with her mom and I with my dad. For full coverage on a 2015 Ram 1500 (mine) and a 2016 Chevy Malibu (her prospective car) Meemic is quoting me about $700/mo. She is 24 and I am 22, neither of us having any points on our license. Does anyone know of a better company to try and call? [link] [comments] |
