International student needs help Posted: 15 Apr 2019 08:44 PM PDT Hello everyone, Im an international student attending Full Sail University in Orlando in August. The school doesn't require and offer insurance so i need to purchase one. I have been on medications for depressants and anxiety for 4 years in my country. Can you guys suggest me some insurance packages that cover doctor visit and meds ? I tried the one my school suggested but they said they wont cover meds and there will be a wait time of 12 months for pre-existing conditions. Thank you very much [link] [comments] |
Rental car accident - what am I liable for? Posted: 15 Apr 2019 01:05 PM PDT Hi - Hoping for some help here to just get an understanding what I am potentially going to be liable for following an accident. I was driving a rental car yesterday and was involved in an accident that resulted in - my rental car being totaled - another car got scratched - another car got a significant dent in the rear bumper. The driver of this car also went to the hospital for back pain in an ambulance. Police who were at the scene told me his injuries were minor. Police came to the scene, and a report was filed. I was deemed at fault (not arguing this). With the rental car, I declined all forms of insurance; my credit card provides primary CDW (I have confirmed this with the card company), and I believe this should cover the cost of the totaled rental car as I have not violated any of the terms and conditions. Although I do not have any of the required documentation to file the claim with the CC company, should I start that process? I do not have personal auto insurance as I do not own a car. My questions are largely around what I will potentially owe to the other drivers. When I spoke with the customer service rep at the rental car agency, they said that even though I did not purchase the Supplemental Liability Insurance, all of the rental cars have a minimum level of liability insurance that would potentially cover some (maybe all) of the damage to the other cars? Is this correct, or would I be required to pay all those costs out of pocket? I also assume I would be held liable for the hospital costs for the other driver? I appreciate any help. I have not been in a situation like this, and it's definitely a learning experience. I am feeling stressed by not having a solid understanding of what I should expect to be paying (am not looking for estimated numbers, rather just an idea of what types of costs I should expect to be paying for). Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Medicaid (NY) paid my ER trip but not the inpatient stay? Is this a balance billing case? Posted: 15 Apr 2019 07:48 PM PDT So I'm under united healthcare's medicaid plan and I got a denial over my hospital stay. I was sent to the ER in an ambulance and stayed overnight to run an MRI the next day (because the hospital told me to). The insurance claims they paid the ER stuff but are refusing to pay for my admission and tests as an inpatient due to lack of "medical necessity." They also denied the appeal. My hospital is currently doing my external appeal, but if it fails, will they sent ME the remaining bill? Is it technically not balance billing if they try to split this event into two separate entities or is it under the same umbrella as the collective experience? (ED moment vs my inpatient stay) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Apr 2019 12:01 AM PDT Got hit today in my grandma's old car. Mint condition Honda Accord V6 32k all original miles always serviced at our local Honda dealership she bought it new. But it's a 1997! Some lady turned left illegally in front of me, her fault, cop said she would be cited. Got font end damage (drivable) w/dual airbag deployment. Am I screwed when it comes to fixing this beloved car or getting a fair payout? I mean this thing should have run for 300k miles with just oil changes! I only had collision so I guess I will have to deal with other parties insurance but I'm afraid with the aibags they will just want to low-ball total it out. How can I fight for the true value if the car or right to repair it? Thanks for any tips! [link] [comments] |

kitchen water damage (southern california) Posted: 15 Apr 2019 06:14 PM PDT i think i know the answer to this, based on what i'm reading here, on various insurance websites, and the fact that my adjuster encouraged me to withdraw our claim because there's no way it would be covered (in order to avoid a denied claim on our record). please note that our policy does not actively exclude this type of damage - in fact, it isn't mentioned at all (i've read and reread and reread again); we're merely taking the company's word for it. but enough people are still insisting this is outrageous - including our contractor - that i wanted to just check with the internet one final time before i give up. long story short, we accidentally discovered water damage in our kitchen, which managed to hide itself until apparently years after it started. upon demo, we saw the full scope of the disaster (and are now forced to remodel as a result, because it destroyed all the lower cabinets as well as the lower two feet of the adjacent pantry - long story short, for various reasons a full remodel seemed most cost effective and long-term wise). we also had to go through an expensive two-week long mold remediation. the first contractor chalked it up to the refrigerator icemaker line ("it must have been disconnected from your fridge, causing water to run out every time it cycled") - that's the first claim i tried to file; the second (and third) were instantly like, "it's that pipe." that was the second claim. both, we were encouraged to withdraw. images below (because apparently the extent of the mold is why apparently insurance won't cover - and it certainly does illustrate this problem is likely years old), but in the interim: is there really absolutely NOTHING we can do here? while on one hand it makes sense, on the other, there was no way to know we had a leaking pipe behind the wall without demoing the wall. note the offending pipe was behind a fridge that was in an enclosure. we only discovered we had an issue because it got so bad it caused visible mold in the aforementioned adjacent pantry. had i not happened to pull the deepfreeze [which is not leaking in any way, and is still plugged in in the demo'd room] in there away from the wall in order to give the room a thorough cleaning, we still wouldn't know. there was no visible damage to the cabinets (despite, once they were removed, there being standing rancid water beneath them), and no water on the floor. i expect bad news so don't be shy, but if this is a point we should press, i'd be interested in that, and how to go about doing it. https://imgur.com/ce05hii edit: this is the kitchen the night before mold demo. if you zoom in you can see evidence of the issue (near the fridge and under the cabinet), but these are things we were apparently blind to after living here so long. otherwise you can't really see any indication of the extent of the damage beneath and behind. note the mold visible in the pantry even in this photo was hidden by a box that had been next to the deep freeze until the morning i was cleaning. but by the time the damage made it this far, it was obviously already extensive. box next to deep freeze or no, by the time mold formed here we were already fucked. which, again, is why insurance is denying (perhaps correctly, but that's why i'm here). (these tell only part of the tale, but i assume everyone can extrapolate the clusterfuck we opened our walls to based on these.) [link] [comments] |
Umbrella Policy & Auto Accident Posted: 15 Apr 2019 08:30 PM PDT Hello, I'm in the State of FL (the statute of limitations is four years). My wife was involved in an auto accident where she was at fault. Her insurance is as follows: Body Injury Liability: $50,000/person; $100,000/accident Property Damage Liability: $50,000/accident Comprehensive & Collision coverage is included with a $500 deductible Uninsured Motorist (Bodily Injury LIability): $50,000/person Underinsured Motorist (Bodily Injury Liability) $100,000/accident Medical Payments Coverage $5,000 Her car is 100% covered via the Comprehensive coverage and the other person's car is likely covered by the $50k in Property Damage (unless they had some super version of this car that is normally like 25k). What I am terrified about, and probably going to lose sleep over for the next four years, is this person suing me for medical damages in excess of the $50,000.00. The other person didn't seem like "that type" and appeared to be fine, but you never know. I'm wondering if I purchase an umbrella policy and the guy sues me at a later date, if the umbrella policy would cover this lawsuit/claim. IF not, is there anything I can do or am I screwed? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Eligible for Medi-Cal if I own a company that loses money? Posted: 15 Apr 2019 03:13 PM PDT I currently make $15,000 pert year so based on income I would likely be eligible for Medi-Cal. However, I own a LLC entity that lost money this past year and looks like it will continue to lose money this year and for the near future. Does anyone know if owning a company makes me ineligible for Medi-Cal? [link] [comments] |
Car accident claim question, plus other car insurance coverage question. Posted: 15 Apr 2019 06:46 PM PDT On 4/4 I was involved in a car accident where I was at fault (you can see a pic and details about the accident here). The accident occurred on my way to work around 8am and I reported the incident to my insurance (State Farm) as soon as I got home. My car was towed to one of their preferred shops that day. I have called the shop several times for updates on my car. From what I was told: On 4/5 they had assigned someone to be the estimator to my car (let's call him "John") 4/9: I call and speak to John to see if the estimate has been completed yet (I have no idea how long these things take and I had asked the shop and was not given a clear answer- mostly just "it depends"). Was told by him that he had looked at the front end damage but they needed a "suspension guy" to look at the suspension. According to him that was supposed to happen the next day (4/10). 4/11: I haven't heard anything so I call shortly before the repair shop closes. The receptionist says John's not available but she will take a message and have him call me back tomorrow. 4/12: By the time I get off work at 4 I have not received a call so I call the shop again (I hate calling every day and I try to be super nice and polite and apologize profusely for being annoying). The receptionist tells me John is busy but that "it looks like" they have submitted the estimate to my insurance. I asked her what the estimate came to but she says she can't tell me. 4/15: This morning I call my insurance to verify if they've received the estimate. The rep I spoke to said they have not. She calls the repair shop on my behalf. Some dude we'll call "Matt" tells her that he needs to look at my suspension, which he is going to do today, and that he will call me in the afternoon to let me know what the total has come to. He tells my state farm rep that even without the suspension damage they are already approaching a total loss. The rep tells me what's going on and now I'm upset again and trying not to cry at work. This new guy Matt never called me this afternoon (can't say I'm terribly surprised) and I am now annoyed because I feel like I am being led on or something. I just want to know if my car is fixable or not (many people have already told me based on the picture that it's probably totaled and that i should just take the total and call it a day and just get a new one, but I loved that one and I really just want it back). I fully expect that if my car is repairable, it will take a while to fix. I did not expect just the estimate to take this long especially since I am using one of State Farm's preferred shops (which supposedly expedite this whole process). Question 1) am I being unreasonable in expecting the estimate to be done? I really hate calling all the time and I feel like I'm being annoying but I am also really upset about this whole thing as I LOVE this car and it's very hard to just...not know. Question 2) totally unrelated: While I am without a vehicle, my bf has told me I can borrow his car whenever I want, but I am not listed on the insurance. Would his insurance still cover me if (god forbid) I were in an accident while driving his car? He also has State Farm. Thank you for reading this long ass story :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Apr 2019 02:50 PM PDT I am a minor at 17, i'm getting a new truck and obviously have to get it insured. my uncle offered to put me on his plan and i could pay for half of my premium and he'd cover the rest. Is this ok or does the person you sign on with have to be a legal guardian? [link] [comments] |
Not sure if I’m screwed or not Posted: 15 Apr 2019 05:58 PM PDT Was at work, backed into someone's car but there's no visible dents or scratches or anything at all. In the interest of not getting insurance involved, I asked the guy to get a quote for a "dent" beneath the front license plate just to have everything squared away. He came back today and handed me an estimate for $1000 worth of work on the car, which seems like a load of a shit to me, honestly. He has a 2018 Honda Civic lease, and I'm aware that it's gonna be expensive but that seems a bit much. I really doubt he'd let it get looked at by my mechanic, so I'm figuring I should just get insurance involved at this point because I don't have $1000 to spend. Also, I'm in New Jersey. My question is, how much should I expect my insurance rate to go up, assuming I do make a claim? I did a little bit of research via Google and found that the average increase in NJ insurance rates for a claim of a first time accident with bodily injury is 32%. I'm figuring that my increase in insurance rate would be less than that, but not experienced with that. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Overpaid my Dentist with my HSA Posted: 15 Apr 2019 05:32 PM PDT Went to the dentist for a procedure. That particular dental office assumes that dental insurance will cover 50%. The dentist had me pay the other 50% of the bill the day of my visit. I paid with funds from my Health Savings Account (HSA). I just recieved a check from that dental office because I "overpaid" (my insurance actually covered 60% of my visit to my surprise). Since I used HSA funds to pay for my visit, do I have to deposit the funds back into my HSA account, or am I free and clear to do what I please with the funds? TIA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Apr 2019 05:12 PM PDT I recently had my debit card replaced and therefor my gieco payment wasn't made. They sent me a cancellation notice if I dont pay, however, I've kind of been wanting to switch insurance anyways. Will this affect my credit if I accept the cancellation and get a new insurance ASAP? First year car insurance prices seems incredibly low? [UK] Posted: 15 Apr 2019 02:38 PM PDT I'm 18 male, living in the east midlands in the UK, having passed my test just 9 months and I'm looking around to get my first car. I've managed to get some quotes for cheap insurance group 1 cars such as puegot 107s, citroen c1s etc at around £800 - £900 which seems quite low for being 18 years and 5 months old. I'm looking myself to pick up something like an Ibiza, Corsa, Fiesta or Focus from around 07-09 and quotes for these are around £1050 - £1150. Parents have double checked I've been filling out my insurance quotes correctly and they're quite baffled by just how cheap they are. My dad mentioned recently his friend went to insurance his sons 07 corsa for his 18th birthday for the year and it was £2800! Is this normal? Anything I should be aware of? It's a little suprising as almost all of my friends are paying well upwards of £1500 for their first year, if not over £2000. [link] [comments] |
Step-Dad wants to give me a car he owns while keeping it and me on his insurance (FL) Posted: 15 Apr 2019 02:32 PM PDT Thank you for taking the time to read this! So to give a little background, my parents are fixing up an old Ford Explorer for me to drive as I have been without a car since October. The car is titled to my step-dad at his address and I live and will store the car at my address 30 miles north in a different city. I was in a rough spot last year and ended up losing my car and canceled my insurance. Because I've been without a car I also have not had insurance and due to my poor financial history recently when I try to get quotes I'm seeing $250/month just for basic (minimum is $100/month) coverage with a pretty large payment upfront to get the policy rolling. I understand it's so high because of the gap where I had no insurance and the other reasons listed. My question is:
We're a little lost on how to do this so any advice helps! [link] [comments] |
Big Companies Thought Insurance Covered a Cyberattack. They May Be Wrong. Question about being added as a driver on a car that is in someone else’s name. Posted: 15 Apr 2019 12:50 PM PDT Long story short, I have a really bad driving record. My quoted monthly rate on a 2000 Honda Civic with basic coverage was something like $400, last time I checked. Luckily, my mother is willing to register and insure a car in her name, with me listed as a driver, so long as I pay the bills and don't leave her with any payments. I was wondering how that would reflect on her initial rate, which is really low. If I'm listed as a driver of the car, will her rates go up to the $400/month that I would have to pay if it were my policy, would they meet somewhere in the middle, or would it even affect the rates at all? Thanks in advance for any answers/advice! [link] [comments] |

Question about homeowners insurance and sewers (MN, Travelers insurance co) Posted: 15 Apr 2019 11:17 AM PDT So my partner and I bought a house a few years ago. Long story short we found out that due to some weird stuff that was done when the house was built (1902), we technically own the sewer and water pipes going to/from our house and all the way down the block. They are in need of major repairs. To the tune of $60-80k split between us and our neighbors. (On a 75k home) Is there a way to get homeowners insurance to cover this? [link] [comments] |
Question about filing a home owner's claim. Posted: 15 Apr 2019 11:07 AM PDT My cousin was traveling for the last few months. He asked that I check in on his home while he was gone. He just got back to find his basement flooded due to a leaking pipe (dont know if it was due to freezing or just failed). I had a few questions:

Need Help! Insurance rep made mistake on phone call Posted: 15 Apr 2019 09:54 AM PDT I need help! 3 months ago i called my insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield and spoke to a representative on the phone. I was calling to check if a doctor (who'd I'd been seeing previously for past year) was in network at a different address closer to me. I was told by the BCBS representative that she was, so I started seeing her at the new location for 3 months. Last week I found of that none of my visits were being covered by my insurance and that I owed my doctors $$$$ for the visits. I'm trying to get the insurance to hold itself accountable and cover the visits. Any advice on how to move forward this? Anything is incredibly appreciated! THANK YOU! [link] [comments] |
Question about which medical policy is primary vs secondary for me... Posted: 15 Apr 2019 09:13 AM PDT I have had coverage as a dependent under my boyfriends insurance (UHC) about 5 years now and have amazing coverage with them. Then effective 01/01/19 I also my own policy through my work (BCBS) and still have coverage under UHC. (The plan was my bf would cancel me from his plan so we could save some money-but he never did). I thought UHC would be my primary since I've had coverage the longest with them. And then my newest policy with BCBS would be my secondary. Is that correct? I'm unfamiliar with the rules for coordination of benefits when there is more than 1 policy in effect. [link] [comments] |
My whole and disability polices. Best decisions I’ve ever made. Posted: 15 Apr 2019 08:51 AM PDT Hello. I'm a orthopedic hand surgeon. Age 60. Some insurance guys came in to talk with our residents and I highly urged them that this is good stuff, yet, a select few seem to despise the whole concept of insurance completely. I understand it's not for everybody, but, in medicine practice, it's almost common sense. I've had my whole life and disability policy since I was 27. So 30+ years. Whole life policy.... 1 million dollar death benefit 12,000 annual premium I've put 400,000 in Cash value is over 2.7 million Pays dividends Paid up Additions rider Mutual company I'm my own bank. So many +'s Disability.... Own occupation (specialty specific) 294 monthly premium Partial & residual disability Non-cancelable & guaranteed renewable Future increase option Cost of living rider Income protected (60%) Covered til age 65 I just don't see why the younger guys think this could be bad stuff. Or a scam? Especially with the income we're all earning, I feel like we have to protect ourselves. Don't know. Just thought I'd share. [link] [comments] |
