Posted: 28 Apr 2019 12:29 AM PDT Hello, I started a new business selling baby items online. I have not yet gone live, but have everything in place, including stock. However... I went to a supplier, who appears to sell a number of brands to a few different shops in my region (UAE). I showed them a couple of samples and they like it very much. They sent me a spreadsheet to fill out with images to attach and info such as country of origin of items, dimensions etc. Anyway, I have no idea what to charge them. They said they want 20 units immediately, but when they asked how many units I have in total (~90), they seemed to think that potentially one of their partners could sell that per day, if they like the product. Each item to me has a net cost of $10. Supplier thinks $40-$55 is the price point to be sold at. I previously estimated about $45-50, so we agree on that. How much should I charge per unit for initial 20 items? How much should I charge in future? I am currently stocking items in my apartment, and have no real overheads currently, however this will change if I grow, so therefore the cost with each item will also increase. My thoughts are to charge minimal for the 20 units e.g. $15 each then suggest $20 (100% profit to me) for future orders? Any thoughts appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Buying a residential cleaning service - is it a good deal? Posted: 27 Apr 2019 11:42 PM PDT I'm a longtime lurker and have been reading r/smallbusiness for a long time, thank you all for creating such a great community! First of all, I know it will be very difficult for you guys to give me a firm decision since there are a lot of details. However any advice, and suggestions on things I should look out for would be truly appreciated! I'm thinking about buying a residential cleaning service. It's in a HCOL area and seems to be doing very well. The current owner is selling because he wants to move onto a new venture, he says that his original goal was to build the business to ~$1M in annual revenue and that he has reached that goal. Seems a bit vague and a bit of a boiler plate answer, but that's just my opinion. Current business model is only open M-F, opportunity for growth by opening weekends and also by hiring more workers and taking more reservations. Here are relevant details: 20 employees - spanish speaking Current owner works ~30 hours a week doing scheduling, payroll, putting out fires, etc. $1M annual revenue $300K EBITDA $900K Sale Price What do you guys think? Any suggestions and thoughts are welcome, and I thank you all for all of your help! [link] [comments] |
Small Shop Profits - In the 90's Posted: 27 Apr 2019 09:22 PM PDT I was thinking about the economy recently and I had a couple of questions that are pretty easy to answer. Like how many more businesses are there today per person compared to 1990. How much of retail business has now shifted to online business. One of the most important questions I have is how much money on average among all small stores with one owner were shopkeepers making before the internet. Is there anyone who either owned a store or has saved an article or internet article that has information regarding shop keeper profits prior to the internet? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 08:51 PM PDT Hey guys. This is my first post and I just need some basic advice. I'm opening up a natural cosmetics company and I'll be running it out of my house and online. Amidst all of the craziness of getting this up and running I'm faced with the biggest question. Because I am selling products that can come with some reactions (allergic and the like) would it be appropriate to open and LLC or is there a different type of business I should be running? I'm not well versed in the business aspect yet so any type of (helpful) advice is so greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Advice on strategic planning? And financial planning? Posted: 27 Apr 2019 04:33 AM PDT |
Decided to start recruiting, how to go about it? Posted: 27 Apr 2019 06:51 PM PDT So currently my company does a ~$20k/monthly revenue. Current expenses leave me with ~12k/month. Im totally swamped and have given up on doing this all on my own. My plan is to continue using my contractors for a while and train interns in house, with a 3 month training program, and if i like them, offer them a job at the end of the internship. Plan to pay them $30k/yr. A few things to note:
So i've got interviews lined up next week. Main questions are:
I would appreciate feedback very much. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 02:57 PM PDT I get that we have to file sales tax quarterly, but I technically provide a service and do not sell physical items (other than a bottle of water, occasionally). I received a notice in the mail that I need to file my sales tax, do I just keep putting 0 for the sales tax? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 06:32 PM PDT I'm making a local online business directory website in a very touristy place, and wanted to ask what would you look for in a business directory. Then I had someone answering that why would someone use a business directory over google. Why would you use one? I can post items that you cannot find on google i.e barbershops, hair salons etc. Is there anything else I could do? I also thought of merging it with a marketplace like ebay, but local which we don't have here, other than a over- saturated and -memed facebook page So the page would have two features. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
Looking for Reviews from business owners of Bowling Alleys who use Clover Station 2018 POS System? Posted: 27 Apr 2019 04:50 PM PDT Hi, I am looking for any owners or employees that have feedback about using Clover station 2018 POS system in a bowling alley. I was not able to pull up any reviews on google so I thought I would try here. Looking for Pro/Cons based on how it compared to what they used before and such. Thank You [link] [comments] |
Inventory and sales help needed. Posted: 27 Apr 2019 03:01 PM PDT Hi there I currently sell minerals and crystals on Facebook and Instagram in a nutshell I really have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to running a small business. I definitely don't sell enough to have to report anything on taxes yet but I'm having a hard time keeping track of my income and expenses and I need to find a way to streamline my inventory. I don't make enough to justify paying for a software but if anyone nose of a good free one to use or has any tips and tricks on how to make a good spreadsheet I would be appreciative. This was also a very quick voice to text message so sorry that it's not punctuated correctly or worded well. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 02:58 PM PDT I have a small business that I just started with two other partners. Each of us live in a different state with each owning 1/3 of the business. I was advised by my accountant to file with the IRS as an S Corp, but when we went down this road it was discovered that this would make things very complicated with the three state filings and the cost of for the filing service would be quite high. So, my accountant said that an option would be to have just myself as the owner of the company and have the other two partners just be contract workers. There isn't any real equity in the company yet, so 1/3 of nothing is the same as nothing and the partners would still be paid the same as they are now. However, I'm failing to see why this is better than just filing as a partnership. I don't understand the benefits of filing as an S Corp if we have to do things this way. Am I missing something? Have any of you ever dealt with a similar situation? Are the tax benefits of filing as an S Corp that much better? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 12:44 PM PDT Hi r/smallbusiness , I'm a freelancer graphic designer and my website is almost done. I'm looking for some tips /advice for advertising my business. I was thinking about looking at local businesses or even international ones and asking or suggesting them if they need a re-brand or if they are interested in (re-brand) at least. I don't want to come off as too aggressive, what do you guys think about it? Also, I want to advertise it on Google Ads. I did that a few months ago but I haven't gotten that many clicks, but I had lots of views. What are the things that people look for in graphic designers? An example of what I should write in 20 characters? Hope you guys can help me out. / Every response is appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Apr 2019 11:40 AM PDT I'm helping a friend set up their eComm site for their small retail store. They currently use Lightspeed for their POS so they are thinking of going with the Lightspeed eComm platform for their site. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with that platform so I can really advise them on whether it is a good bet for the long run. I've primarily used Shopify in the past and have always had a great experience with them, but I don't want to push them in a different direction if I don't know enough about the platform they are planning to use. Do any of you guys have any experience with either of these platforms and can lend some advice? In particular I'm wondering if Lightspeed has them same level of secondary app and reporting options that Shopify has. It does seem that Shopify can integrate with their Lightspeed POS system so inventory management wouldn't be a problem if we went that route. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 11:18 AM PDT One of us is living in Los Angeles while the other is living in Dallas. Does our business need a physical location? We are wanting to write off our rent for our home offices on our taxes but is this considered a physical location? After looking at fees it looks like a Texas LLC is $300 with no annual fee while California is just riddled with high fees so its probably not the best option. Since we are an online business does it really matter where we file our LLC? We don't plan on making more than roughly 2-10k a year (potentially more) and sometimes we might even want to take a break and not take any freelancing gigs. With this situation for revenue, is it worth looking into filing in another state for tax advantages? I know the downside to that is that we would pay a foreign LLC fee as well as having to get a registered agent in that state which most likely come at a cost as well. If someone could please give us some insight on this it would be much appreciated. Questions Outlined:

Hiring Commission Based Sales Representatives Posted: 27 Apr 2019 11:16 AM PDT So I'm following the dream I've had for years and started my own business. It's a B2B company so I want to get some sales people that can meet face to face because that's part of our mission. I'm an expert in the service I'm providing and have an education in business, but just the nitty gritty of hiring is something I would like to get more educated on and see how some of you have gone about it! For you business owners who have needed to hire commission sales, what's the way you went about it? Some of the specific questions I have is: Does IRS require you to take out taxes if it's a contracted - 1095 employee? How have you paid commission people? Ours is a short sales cycle so do I pay upon payment or when they sign the agreement? Is it worth talking to an HR Consultant, or easy enough to get the knowledge else where? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Apr 2019 07:04 AM PDT Hi Everyone, First time business owner here trying to get an LLC off the ground. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on streamlining tax payments? Systems that you have used in past, CPA vs No CPA since our revenue is really low, etc? We are currently in a position where we are set up, but Sales Tax here in Louisiana is a mess to navigate. Any help would be much appreciated! [link] [comments] |

I've used publisher in the past to create brochures but I no longer have access. I've played with canva but find it difficult for this design. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
