    Becker now has unlimited access?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 06:19 PM PDT

Becker sent me an email saying that the "Becker Bundle" now gives you unlimited access to the study materials-

" That's what the Becker Bundle is all about. Our premium review package includes lectures, textbooks, simulations, practice questions, mock exams, flashcards, a final review module and more. It's thorough, relevant and efficient, to help empower you to succeed when you sit for the exam. And, now, you can access the course & materials for as long as you need it until you pass the exam! "

I have been reading and I haven't been able to find a "catch" yet. Has anyone used this yet? or know anything about it?

    Escaping PA

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 09:17 PM PDT

Prompted by a loan staff engagement, where I was briefly sheltered from the needs of the office, I've decided once and for all to leave public. I can't believe how much I've wasted for this job.

I'm missing my child's life. I'm exhausted and thinking about work constantly. I feel pressured on all sides to meet expectations and deal with the disappointment and possible job threatening of missing those expectations. I'm not a patient, present spouse. I'm depressed and anxious. I'm in my mid-20s and as tired as if I were in my 40s.

There is no point to this post, just adding to the waves of those who've come before me. I am done. No perks are worth this sort of life.

Beefing up the resume and brushing up on some old recruiting contacts in the morning.

How do I break into this field? I cannot find a job.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 07:46 PM PDT

Alright, so I'm a senior whose about to graduate this year. I joined BAP for an entire semester and rushed, went to office tours, applied for internships, beefed up my resume, cover letter, elevator pitch, Linkedin, etc. I got nothing out of it besides three interviews and they were all no's. I asked for feedback and received none. I then tried VITA and got experience that way, but it's been a dead-end since. I've applied for entry-level bookkeeping positions via Robert Half as well as accounting clerk (A/R and A/P) roles. Heck, I even applied to be a bank teller. It's been close to a year now and I'm so demotivated that I do not know if there's any point to continuing any further in this field if I'm going to have the same luck. What should I do going forward?

About to get performance reviews at a B4. I’m anxious af. Help.

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 06:12 PM PDT

I started as an A1 after New Year's and it's been really tough. I'd reinjured my ACL a few days prior to starting, my team doesn't like me, and I took 4 days off + one weekend over a period of two weeks because I was in a lot of pain. On top of it all, I think I'm thinking about going on short term disability for my knee.

I just know that I'm going to get poor performance reviews. I worked in tech before switching to public, and I was praised for my good work (I switched out because I was getting too comfortable and B4 seemed exciting). I know it's ridiculous to even be agonizing over this - I was clocking way more than 60 hours per week before taking the 4 days off. I'm miserable because I'm not clicking with my team. I think I come across as antisocial, but I'm really not - my knee gives me agonizing pain and the long working hours make t worse. I'm also shy around big groups and I'm the only minority on my team.

I also don't think my senior likes me and my manager even less so. I feel like my manager has totally given up on me. I'm not getting enough coaching, but I know I shouldn't be getting my hand held all the time. The other associate has been giving me tasks and it feels like the blind leading the blind.

Should I even be worried? Or should I not care?

Funny thing happened this morning when I talked to a recruiter regarding the onsite interview last Friday

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 10:12 AM PDT

So I'm trying to jump ship and also switch to audit at the same time. I know it's probably the worst time to switch to audit with no experience because it's busy season but here I am...

I've applied to a couple - all national firms except for one regional firm. National firms either are taking their sweet time to get back to me or have rejected me with the silent treatment. It's been over a week since i last talk to the recruiters.

Went onsite with this regional firm last Friday, felt a connection with them and was expecting an offer from them. Recruiter called me and was like "they really liked you and thought you would fit in well with the team. The thing is we can only offer you $XX at the moment." ($XX is about 20% less than what I'm making as a senior outsourced accountant in a national firm and with a CPA)

I told him I would think it through and also talk to my husband about it. Recruiter: "Really? To be honest, no one was really expecting you to even consider this kind of offer with such a big paycut. I personally wouldn't and certainly don't expect you to." LOL

We both laughed about this on the phone. I really appreciate his honesty. Surprisingly, I felt relieved after the phone call because I wanted to go for a national or a big 4 to begin with and the only reason I applied to this regional one was a friend of mine works there and said great things about the firm.

I guess this ended my first attempt at trying to jumping ship this year.

Why was I asked for salary expectations in a 1st year associate phone interview?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 01:11 PM PDT

I thought everyone just started at the same amount...? Or near it? Aka standardized?

Why did a recruiter criticize me for not passing one section of the CPA process even though I currently have 3 passed? She asked me "why did I fail X". We'll miss majority of people who take them do not go 4 for 4.... I barely failed my 4th one as well.

So I have a position on my resume that screams I was paid a high wage (I wasn't).. and it doesn't relate to accounting..

Consider sticking with Industry over Public?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 12:33 PM PDT

Background: Non-traditional Accounting student going back to school to get my remaining hours to sit for the CPA. BBA in Finance.

So as I am getting closer to 150 hours to be able to sit in for CPA, I am going to be a more aggressive in my job hunt this May, after Finals, as I will only have two classes left this Summer.

I was originally planning on Public Accounting over Private but I got to meet with someone who works in the Big 4 to talk with them about it.

They're younger than me (I'm 32, they're 26) and she said with the years of Corporate Accounting under my belt (8 years with experience in Accruals, Variance Analysis, etc. and worked for F500 companies) that I might be throwing away good experience by starting over in Public as I would not be brought in as an Experienced Hire (obviously). That if she was in my shoes, She would stick to Private as i'll have more time to study and pass the CPA. Then, I should be eligible for those Senior Accounting Positions I had trouble landing.

    Should I stick with Private?

Thoughts on getting MBA after graduating with a BS in Accounting?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 04:19 PM PDT

I'm still an undergrad and I'm not sure where I want to take my degree. I know I don't really want to sit behind a desk slaving all day. My university is always preaching about how Accounting is the "language of business" and how versatile it is. I'd like to be on the decision making side one day. I understand you need 2-4 years of work experience before getting into an MBA program, but has anyone else went this route and have any insight to offer?

    EY leadership program help

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 06:26 PM PDT

    Hello Accounting friends,

First, I just want to say thank you for the daily advice and the memes. It's my first time posting but i have been lurking for a while. Busy season is coming to an end so congratulations! You made it!

Second, I got an invitation for a video interview for EY's emerging leadership program. I was not expecting this because I have a low GPA (personal life problems) but the recruiter seemed to like me. I didn't even get interviews for other firms such as Moss Adams. Anyways, I was wondering if you guys think this is a good sign and If I really have a shot at EY? Also, any advice for this video interview and moving forward will be very helpful. What kind of questions should I prepare myself for and what to expect?

    Thank you so much guys!

Yo homies I’m thinking of making a switch

    Posted: 08 Apr 2019 05:26 PM PDT

I'm currently working for a large energy company in corporate accounting. It's been awesome and I've got about a year of experience. They've offered me a full time position after graduation and what not. It's been my plan to decline and pursue my other opportunity in public, BUT...

I may have the opportunity to transfer into FP&A. I'd likely start as a financial analyst.

I'm curious to know how many of you have opted for that route to start. I've always sort of bad audit->private as a controller as my simple mans plan with a finance route as my 1a. I do also find valuation, ER, etc very interesting.

Anyway, drop your anecdotes! I always like to hear what you guys have done or know of.
