20 year old with medical bills from 7 months ago, not sure how to handle Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:34 PM PDT I have just over $100k in medical bills that I found out about just today. I was in the hospital 7 months ago (September 2018), and just a week ago, I got calls from a physician that treated me there. They called saying that their claim was denied and I needed to call my insurance to sort it out. So after a LOT of calling, I found out that claims from when I was in the hospital were basically all denied, and I have over $100k due. (Specifically, the hospital billed $97,000, and my insurance, which is with my dad's company, paid about $1000..) I had no idea I had any balance due, because my dad told me his insurance covered most of it and we only had to pay $3000.. I live far away for school, and haven't gone home in a while to see any letters, and I assume my dad has just been letting the letters pile up. I found out the claims were denied because I have two insurances and failed to provide the other insurance. This other insurance happened to be with my college, which is a plan that students are automatically subscribed to. So now, I have to call everyone and fax them over my college's insurance. I am scared though, because I am 7 months late, and one of the representatives mentioned something about timely filing. So I'm scared neither insurance will cover anything and I'll be stuck with $100k of debt. Are there any options I should be looking to in the case the insurance doesn't cover it? I'm really scared, and there aren't many people to talk to about this... [link] [comments] |

Car insurance when moving every 6 months. Posted: 29 Apr 2019 12:42 PM PDT I'll be moving for my job every 6 months in most likely different states. How does this affect things related to the car? My insurance agent said that they're only licensed in Florida and I'd need a new policy with someone else every 6 months since I'm moving so often. This is only for 2 years (so 4 total moves) but they said its going to be expensive to take care of the car when moving around so often. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:03 AM PDT I got rear ended switching lanes(with blinker), not going after her insurance because my tail light just got broke. However, she plans to go after mine because apparently it was my fault. Which was what she told the p.o I just said it I used my blinker and she hit me. It was her driver side hitting my passenger side while I was switching. No ticket was issued Who you think gonna be at fault here [link] [comments] |
I scratched a parked car in a parking lot Posted: 30 Apr 2019 01:13 AM PDT I never hit another car before. My windows were fogged up and I parked way to close to the car until I realized how close I was. It was too late...I tried back up to move away and my side mirror scratched the side of their rear passenger door. It's very noticeable thin scratch. My car has suffered no damages but it is dark. I feel really bad. I left my info. I don't know what's going to happen. If have never been in this situation before. Will my insurance go up as well? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:11 PM PDT In Texas, exactly one month ago.... A drunk guy backed into my car in a parking lot and then led me on a 40 minute chase (at the speed limit) out of town. 4 hours later, he was arrested for DWI and I was left with a couple case numbers(he hopped jurisdictions) and no insurance info. He told me he had insurance, but refused to give it to me. I assume he was going to try and play innocent on the car accident part, but I have dash cam footage showing the entire thing going down. Basically, no one will give me his insurance info, and when I called my insurance company, they said I would have to file a claim. I asked if that would raise my rates, even if they ended up getting their money back. They told me that it would raise my rates because THEY would be the ones immediately sending and adjuster and paying for the damage, regardless of what happened with the other guy's insurance after that. Not to mention I have a $1000 deductible and the damage is honestly probably less than $1500. I talked to 2 people about it, and they both seemed unsure, but stuck to their guns. While the officers(all SIX of them,) were around us doing their thing, I kept asking for insurance info. They said they would get it to me. Apparently the only way that I can get it now is by buying a crash report, which means driving way out there again... They asked me if I wanted to press charges at the time and I said no because I just wanted him to pay for my car damage. Is it too late to press charges to get something back for all this crap this guy has caused me? I just spoke to the officer who wrote the report and he said my insurance company is the one who is supposed to be dealing with this, as they can pull his insurance info from the crash report. Will they just give it to me? The dash cam footage is indisputable, as it shows the incident, the license plate, the chase, the man's face, and him getting arrested. So I have zero doubt that he will be found at fault. I am honestly just broke and can't deal with any of these expenses right now. So if I can avoid taking half a day off work for a long drive+$6 for a crash report, or filing a claim myself, which won't even get my car fixed because I can't afford the $1000 deductible, please let me know.... Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:20 PM PDT Hi there. Quick question -- does the limited purpose FSA (LPFSA) have the same rules as the FSA where if you are terminated or leave your position with your employer, those funds you have contributed are forfeited? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Car accident claim, company changed adjusters, and now 3rd adjuster says file is basically empty TX Posted: 29 Apr 2019 10:03 PM PDT Thank you for your help. I will try to be brief. Collision 3/25. Hit by car signaling right hand turn. After checking again for clearance in other lanes(divided road 2 lanes each side) I proceeded through intersection. My car was struck driver's side front wheel/A-pillar, after passing central lane divide. Other driver said he would have tried to brake but he didn't see me and that he wasn't signaling right turn.I pointed out that his right turn signal was still on and he said," oh I must have done that on accident" After speaking with his parent he changed his story. His only damage was passenger side front bumper/quarter panel. I had minor injuries and was dazed, but managed to take pics. My car was undrivable but he pulled his car off street. Police arrived no one ticketed. I went to minor er for x-rays etc. Called my insurance company to report accident and claim had already been initiated by other driver. Told by agent that they were adding notes to reflect that other driver admitted fault and subsequently changed statement and was given adjusters name claim# etc. Spoke with adjuster next morning gave statement and was told that based on his statement and my statement that they were proceeding as other driver at fault, so call his insurance company to initiate claim/give statement. I completed claim process with other driver's insurance company. A week later his insurance company called me and said that they were declining claim based on both statements and police report. I call my adjuster multiple times and send an email with pics, a sketch of accident, google map photo of intersection to clarify my sketch, the name and number of his adjuster, their claim number, and all other pertinent info. In the meantime my body shop has done tear down and is proceeding with repairs. My insurance company has had an agent inspect my car and okd repair. A week later my husband is called by our insurance company because they say they can't reach me. I immediately call and leave claim # contact info on the number given to my husband. Two days later I get a call from new adjuster who says that I need to release my car to them ASAP because it's a total loss and racking up storage fees. Oh and we've determined that you're 100% at fault so we've paid his claim. I clarify that she is now the adjuster and am told that the other adjuster is no longer "at that desk", so that's why none of my calls or emails have been returned. I ask what she used to determine that the collision is 100% my fault and she says that it's based on statements and police report. I ask about the photos and sketches that I had sent to the first adjuster that i'd Been working with and she says that she doesn't have any of it because she can't get email from someone who is no longer with them. I let her know that as the location of initial impact, the damage on my car/his car, the photos of the tire marks seem to indicate that he changed lanes crossing into the other two lanes of oncoming traffic where he hit my car so i will forward them to her ASAP. She emails me back that she's reviewing the photos etc. Again I call several times with no response. My husband calls today and is routed to someone else in adjusting who is handling the claim. He asks what info is in the claim file and what are they using to determine fault. This claims person checks the file and says that the only info that's there is denial of claim from other insurance company. They do not have pics, copy of police report, pics of the damage to his car or any other information. Also my 1st adjuster is still with the company in the same position, with the same contact info. She then says that this does not conform to their process she will begin the process to change it to a not at fault determination. My car has been totaled and taken by my insurance company, I've been injured, using a rental car for over a month, employment/financial decisions have been on hold until this is resolved. I've never heard of a company accepting all liability without any investigation(or at least a copy of a police report). What can I do to assure the best possible outcome? Thank you! Question about Mortgage Payments under Homeowners Insurance?? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 09:12 PM PDT Hello all! I am working on an assignment for a RMIS course and I cannot figure out if Mortgage Payments are covered under the homeowners policy should a couple be displaced due to a fire. Do you have any suggestions on how to approach this to find a solution? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:52 PM PDT Hey all, My wife had an at fault accident last September that involved a minor bit of scuffing on the car. The other car filed a claim back in september and we thought the car to our damage was just surface level. Our insurance went up a tiny bit from this. However this car is a lease and we decided to take it to a body shop to get all of the surface level stuff cleaned up. Turns out the scratches are pretty bad and would cost around $1,500 to get repaired. So we opted to contact our insurance to let them know there was actually damages, and they reopened our case and are sending someone out tomorrow to figure out what needs to be fixed. Here is my issue. This was our first accident, I am terrified my policy is about to skyrocket in price... It should only be around $1,500 but I dont know if claiming this was the right idea. Im scared, what do you guys think. More info, I have state farm. [link] [comments] |
GF involved in hit and run person reported. Any solution ? Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:43 AM PDT Few days ago my GF got hit by someone zooming across empty parking lot. Other car slowed down but when she got out they sped off. She tried to chase but the got away. It was nothing major just smudge on car so she let it go and did not report in fear her insurance would go up and accident recorded (She also didn't get partial or any info to call police ). Later in the day insurance called that there was an accident guess that person reported it. Crazy thing they put her mom as the driver. How is this possible at all ? Is there any way to combat this at all. Is this a common scam or something [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Apr 2019 08:07 PM PDT I called and filed a claim with both mine and the other partys insurance. Bodyshop my insurance recommended said they couldnt fix aluminium damage to the frame of a tesla. So got it towed to the only shop that could near me. Clear video shows i stopped at stop light and he pulled out of parking lot and hit corner. Would post on imgur but shows license plate of other car so not sure of thats allowed. Who covers my rental? Anything to ask for normally forgotten like depreciation of my car? Only had 9.9k miles. Shop guy said file a claim for both but go through other insurance if covered since they wont have a limit and i wont need to pay deductible. [link] [comments] |
Insurance Provider telling me Dental Office is Out of Network Posted: 29 Apr 2019 04:21 PM PDT Hello Redditors! I had just moved to a new city and state, so I needed to find a new dentist. When I went to call my Insurance Provider, it had a prerecorded message to go to their website and find a list of In Network providers. I did that and my SO and I had some work dental work done. When I reached back out to my insurance company because I thought the prices were a little high, they said because the dentist is out of network, when I stated I found them on their website (which they are still on there) as provider, they said it could've been outdated and I should call to verify that doctor and in network first. Do I have any recourse here? Can I argue that they misled (and how many others) to believe this office is in network when they aren't? TIA! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:18 PM PDT Hi folks, I'm not sure how well versed you folks are in pet insurance, but I figured I'd give you all a shot. Hopefully you can help! Ihave a plan for my dog that covers accidents and injuries, as well as routine care. It's through the ASPCA. Last week, my dog was injured when she went to the groomer's, and I ended up having to take her to the vet to be seen. Today, I got a refund for the grooming services, as well as $100 towards my incurred veterinary bills. But I would like to claim the remaining balance on my insurance, if possible. Is this something I can do? If I were given money from the person responsible for causing the injury, can I still claim the veterinary bills? Any advice/guidance is appreciated. Thank you all so much! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 07:01 PM PDT So this person backed into my car while in the parking lot the other day. Called the police to get a report and the person said in the statement he didn't see me when backing up. Now I'm dealing with the headache of talking to his insurance (progressive) which is my insurance as well. The insurance is telling me I need to file under their policy which there policy number wasn't on the police report. The insurance is trying to contact the person who hit me but he's not picking up and so they claim they can't do anything until he picks up. Idk what to do and any help would be grateful. I'm located in Wisconsin if that helps and my insurance was able to find his policy number. He's not picking up and my insurance claims they can't do anything unless he picks up. [link] [comments] |
American going to Finland in 10 days (for 3 months) Posted: 29 Apr 2019 02:54 PM PDT I am looking at travel insurance and I need help. Now I've researched quite a bit and understand the numbers but am confused on the total price. I am looking at Travelex and my plan would be $44. That's right, under $50. Now, is that too good to be true?? I compared that with Allianz Travel thanks to TravelInsurance.com and comparing the two, Travelex is better. I look at Travelex price and the next insurance is at least $200 more, Allianz is $320 more. Is Travelex price too good to be true? I talked to a lady on the phone for 20 minutes and she helped me a lot and I didn't have to wait at all. Thank you for your help. EDIT: Should I just add all my details here and have someone look into it? I'm not sure if that's allowed here or not. [link] [comments] |
Warranty on Performed House Repair Posted: 29 Apr 2019 06:28 PM PDT Hello r/Insurance, We had a leak on our second floor bathroom that was covered by our insurance. Forward a couple of months, the leak is back. My question is, is there some sort of warranty on the work performed by the plumber? Also, what will happen if this new repair is a lot more than what was initially fixed? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:39 PM PDT PA I recently was in an accident where there was damage to the rear of my car. The shop I took it to really messed the car up. The paint color isn't correct, it's a couple shades off. The OEM replacement bumper isn't fitting correctly. They damaged the back glass taking it out of the lift gate to put into the new one and didn't replace it, just used the damaged piece. They broke clips on two wiring harnesses for the lights in the hatch. The spoiler on the hatch was installed incorrectly and is now sitting higher than the roof instead of level or lower than it. There's visible paint drip marks where it looks to have been painted to much and the paint dripped a little and dried. Etc, etc. The shop has had the car twice now, and will need it back a third time to repair things again. However, I don't want them to touch my car again because they've only made things worse. What kind of recourse do I have here? My insurance company won't go after the shop to get the money back because "the work has been done" even though it's been done poorly. They told me, if I want another shop to correct the work, instead of trusting this shop for a third time, I would have to get the original shop to agree to pay for it. I can't see that happening. Do I have to go to small claims court? For the record, I took my vehicle to another shop to look at the work, and they said everything would have to be redone. Sanded down, primed, painted, new glass, new brackets, etc. So basically starting from scratch. So everything my insurance company paid for already was for no reason. It will have to be started again. [link] [comments] |

Car Insurance issue. I want to know if my car insurance go up if i do this [Read below] Posted: 29 Apr 2019 04:05 PM PDT I own a camaro 2012 v6. I got into 2 accident. One was my fault, my fender has dents and scratches. The other was a hit and run, my back side panel has a deep scratch and the front side panel where the camaro letters are, are scratched up. Probably well over 2k+ if not more in damages. I want to reach out to my insurance (Geico) so then i can help me get my auto body repaired. What is my best bet? Call them up and consult with them or fix it myself out of pocket (which i dont want). [NewJersey] [link] [comments] |
