Previous insurance company keeps on contacting me. What should I do?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 02:59 PM PDT

My previous car insurance company in which I broke up with about 2 years ago STILL contacts me regularly to go back to them. This includes email, calls, and regular mail. I have emailed the agent back and told them to please stop contacting me and I am satisfied with my current insurance company. I have emailed them twice and told them this. Is this normal for them to keep contacting you? What is an appropriate course of action? I wanted to call the company today but it was too late and they closed for the weekend.

Edit: emailed agent twice to stop contacting me

Sick - Need Heart Operation - Spouses Insurance Dropped me

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 09:31 AM PDT

So. My wifes a RN. Her employer started offering us insurance this year. That disqualified us for ACA plans (subsidies anyway). We started on the insurance at the start of the year. I have a heart condition. I've been in and out of the ER a few times and I'm having to see heart specialist (multiple due to the needing 2nd opinions).

I had a appointment scheduled with a Heart EP at Duke in two weeks and find out today my wifes Employers insurance has straight up dropped me from her plan. No call, no nothing. The Dr. Office called and said United Healthcare said I was no longer part of that plan.

Is it still legal to just drop sick people from their insurance plans? What are my options now? This is seriously putting my life at risk and I'm not sure what to do.

What are the odds they total my car?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 01:39 AM PDT

There is $9000 in damage. The KBB trade-in value for one in good condition is just over $8000. The private party value is about $10.5k. I feel like the insurance company would almost be inclined to total it because they'd be able to wash their hands of it since they're not the ones who gave me gap insurance.

    Future car insurance suggestions?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 12:52 AM PDT

    I'm in North Carolina.

I'm wanting to find the best solution for car insurance. I'm on a plan with my mother that has a full coverage and a "liability?" coverage plan on it along with home and such. I'm 70% sure I have an accident that will be gone at the end of this year to help reduce some prices, but I'm planning on getting a second car.

I've gotten quotes for 700$ on the higher side and 250$ on the lower side for a 2016 and newer mustang. As a pleasure car I'm not sure if I should do full coverage or what not?

So the question is what's a good insurance for a mustang and a young guy with an accident and being a student?

Life Insurance Companies: How To Evaluate

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:56 PM PDT

Hi all, in my mid 30s, in Ohio, would like to buy a term life policy for 20 - 30 years.

How do I distinguish between all these seemingly indistinguishable companies? So many "National", "Family" and "American" buzzwords. And "ABCD", "XYZ Co" initials.

I suppose my tentative theories are:

-I'm likely to get better value through the online marketplace than through companies that exclusively use agents.

-I'm more likely to get an honest company by going with one that is not publicly traded rather than one that is beholden to shareholders and quarterly results.

What else do I need to know? It seems like a huge decision that will be with me for a long time, and I want to get it right.

If I choose my own shop for an insuramce funded repair...

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:31 PM PDT

Does the adjuster have a right to refuse a supplement on the basis that the shop is not one that was recommended by the insurance company? Or would there need to be some sort of proof that the repair needed in the supplement request was unrelated to the loss of the claim?

I'm confused about the advice I'm being given on this sub. It sounds like this sub is telling me that an adjuster has the right to refuse a supplement on the basis of the shop alone. Google is telling me the insured is legally allowed to choose their own shop.

Am I right in thinking, that unless the adnuster is able to prove damage was unrelated to the claim, it must be approved?

    Transcript

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:02 PM PDT

Do insurance companies keep copies of your transcripts or do they just ask for you to show them a paper copy of it and take it home? I'm honestly worried cause I need to renew it and I fibbed about a grade last year because my dad asked for it and then he sent it to them... And now he wants me to send it to them and even tho my grades are above, it won't be the same...

Also can someone give me a number of approximately how much my discount will be with and without? I'm considering just telling her, hey, I don't qualify or the discount just don't give it to me so I don't have to send in the transcript and have it not match, but if the monetary difference is massive then ofc my parents will notice.

Garage got run into (again), will insurance roll existing structural damage into the repairs?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 01:23 PM PDT

My grandmother had an accident that resulted in 2 tons of car driving into the dividing wall of her 2-car garage from outside. The cinder blocks that got hit have shifted a full 4 inches back and whee, it's load-bearing.

At the same time the back wall of the garage has been ready to collapse for several years due to having been run into years ago by my grandfather but there was never a claim made. It didn't appear bad at the time but the wall has gradually separated over the following 20 years to the point where it's barely carrying any of the load. The whole garage at this point is just being held together by the side walls, center posts, and prayers.

Would calling in a claim on the new damage likely get the whole of the damage remedied on the possibility that the structure had been shifted with the new damage, or would we likely be on the hook for the back wall? I don't expect to fool a professional inspector so I'm asking more about what the professional tendency would be in such a situation.

Insurance has actually been through the same company all these years if that makes a difference.

Get rear ended, and have a very very minor scruff. Not too worried about it and don’t want to go through insurance but the lady who hit me is calling her insurance company. Good or bad to contact mine?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 06:58 AM PDT

Basically as the title says; my dad was driving my car, got rear ended and there's a very very minor white scruff on my black car on the back bumper. I don't really care about the cosmetics of the car and don't want to go through the effort of contact the insurance company as its just not worth it. However, the lady who did hit my car is calling her company.

It should be noted her car was a big suv and my car was a a small Mazda. So I can't even imagine what small scruff she has on her car that makes it worth calling insurance, and even implicating herself.

So my question is, should I still call my insurance company and inform them of what happened? I'm scared she might tell a one sided story, but she seems nice enough not to.

    Also this is in Canada.

[VA] Underinsured motorist rear-ended uninsured driver

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 07:45 AM PDT

I am in completely over my head, and I'm hoping someone might be able to clarify some of this for me..

My girlfriend let her auto insurance coverage lapse when she changed bank cards and forgot to re-set her auto drafts. Well, the timing couldn't have been more terrible, because..

Last week, she was the front car of a three-vehicle-collision which was caused by the rear driver plowing the middle car into her car.

The rear driver was found to be at fault for the accident, but only has 20,000 worth of coverage, which isn't going to cover both vehicles he totalled..

His insurance company is saying that they will have to sell her vehicle for parts to be able to give us the amount that we owe on the car, and implying that it will take months.

I am completely at a loss for what to do.. we need a new vehicle, and I also can't make two car payments, especially when one of the vehicles is totalled!

Do we need to sue the underinsured driver who was at fault? Are we just SOL completely? Her insurance company (the one that the coverage had lapsed on) has pretty much told her they can't help, as I expected.

Any thoughts? I appreciate any insight, as I've never had to deal with anything like this, and it's been very anxiety inducing.

    Thank you.

    Trouble getting coverage

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 05:20 PM PDT

I am acquiring a 2013 Nissan Altima with a salvaged title, but I cannot find an insurance company that will accept the vehicle. I live in Washington, DC. Any suggestions? I've tried contacting about 5 different companies. My problem is that they either don't cover the salvaged vehicle, or don't operate in DC.

Edit: listing companies I've already tried:

New to insurance, is the amount they cover fixed or can you get them to pay for more?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 03:42 PM PDT

I see a therapist and after meeting my out of network deductible I find out my insurance will only cover like $100 of my $250 an hour session. Can I do anything to see if they cover more? Like if it's necessary for mental health or required for my job or anything. Has anyone ever tried this? Just curious. Thank you!

    Insurance provider help

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 02:50 PM PDT

Hey I'm sorry in advance if this is not the right /r to post this question to, I'm just looking for any answers I can get.

I have health insurance through my employer, the provider is Kaiser. I was diagnosed with a small tumor pressing on my spinal cord, and with that the family and I went into panic and started looking at doctors in and outside of Kaiser. We hit a wall after not liking the two opinions from within Kaiser, both Surgents made us feel very uncomfortable about going with them. A little extra back story I reside in CA, Kaiser kind of gives that away.

But anyways we found a doctor I really want in Providence, RI, and the problem Kaiser refuses to cover anything in anyway shape or form. They just think they have the right doctors with in. Frankly, I disagree based on all the terrible customer service they've provided my family and myself trying to get this issue taken care of. Also The Doctor in RI won't schedule a surgery without us having the money in full for the surgery (out of pocket or insurance that will cover it.)

The main question at hand is with the money my family has raised for the surgery we thought why not just get a personal health coverage and then go to that doctor, but I live in CA, and the doc is in RI. Is there an insurance provider that would allow this surgery. We desperately want this doctor rather than settling for others we aren't comfortable with.

Again if this isn't the place for this sorry, but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be appreciated greatly.

    Thanks

    Student health insurance

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 11:04 AM PDT

    Hi,

So currently I am a full time student and covered under my mother insurance plan under the affordable care act. However, next semester I want to take under 12 credits making me a part time student. I was wondering if this would affect my coverage under my mother's plan? I've done some research and it seems like it won't matter but I'd like to be sure.

[WA] Personal Injury Settlement & Insurance Question

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 12:34 PM PDT

I was working out at my apartment's gym, and the machine I was using malfunctioned and crashed down on my head. Had to go to the ER, had a CT scan (which was clear) and had 5 staples put in my head to close the wound.

Reported the incident to my apt. complex and they submitted a claim through a 3rd party insurance claim administrator for the apt. My out of pocket after health insurance was $1,200 and I missed a day of work. I asked for $3.2k to cover out of pocket, missed day of work, and pain and suffering. They came back with $2k settlement.

Now that I have the paperwork, I'm starting to wonder if my health insurance should have been involved in the discussion. I have a private health insurer through my employer. They covered ~$1.5k from the medical bills outside of my deductible.

    1. Will my medical insurance be informed that I received a settlement regarding this incident? The settlement paperwork says: "Pursuant to Federal law, Section 111 of The Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services must be provided the full name, address, Social Security Number, date of birth, gender, and if available, Medicare or Medicaid case number for Releasors that are entering and agreeing to bodily injury or personal injury settlements.
    2. Will my medical insurance come after me to pay the portion of the bill that they covered if I accept a settlement?
    3. Should I try to negotiate for more? I made the mistake of replying to the email saying that that payout seemed reasonable. (oops).

Daughter rear-ended someone, they are OK with signing waiver. Should I pay out of pocket?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:42 AM PDT

My 18 year old daughter is on my family insurance policy. She has one at-fault accident already.

She rear-ended someone, causing about $1300 in damages. The other driver (solo driver, no other passengers) and her father (owner of the vehicle) are OK with signing a general waiver if I pay for the damages out of pocket.

Questions: 1. Is this a stupid idea? Should I let insurance handle it? It will be the second at-fault accident in 6 months. I'm scared of how bad rates will go up. 2. As long as the general waiver is signed by my daughter and me (owner of her vehicle) and the other driver and her father, is there anything else to consider before doing this?

We are in Texas, if it matters.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Underwriting position out of college?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:38 AM PDT

I'm graduating with a degree in business administration in marketing in December and I wanted to ask my chances of landing an underwriting position out of college, I'm in the Chicago area. I have no problem starting in an assistant role. I've done courses in accounting and finance as well as 3 levels of stats that emphasized excel. Currently I'm doing a spring internship at a marketing agency which involves a lot of client management, decision making and analytics. I tried applying to underwriting internships for the summer but there weren't many and I only got as far as a phone call for one of them. Is there anything more I can do to help my chances? Or should I consider something else, I've looked a lot into this role and really want to start a career in it

[NY] Car totaled by insurance company

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:31 AM PDT

My moms car was totaled by the insurance company. She took the car and the difference to go get it fixed. She has the title and it does not say salvaged.

This does not seem right to me? She is telling me that she is okay to insure and drive it without inspection and that it is not salvaged. She has to be missing a bunch of steps right?

Full story is she got rear-ended. Other car at fault, airbags deployed, everything. Their insurance paid hospital bills, paid off the loan, and my mom got some money back from the value difference.

    home got burglarized

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:19 AM PDT

    Hi,

So unfortunately, somebody smashed a window and burglarized my house last weekend. My wife and are are debating about filing a claim with insurance, the amount we lost was significant but not back-breaking. It's just disappointing. I've never filed an insurance claim before so I have a few questions.

First, I don't think we have receipts or pictures of the items that were taken. Also some cash and gift cards were taken. If we file a claim, I assume that the insurance company is going to ask for some type of documentation like receipts or pictures? Would the agent be able to tell me before I formally file a claim if that claim without documentation if the claim will be successful or denied?

Second, if the claim is denied, does that affect my rates later?

Third, one of my wife's acquaintances told her that if we do file a claim about the burglary, our house will then be marked as a "burglary house" by the insurance company and we'll have trouble selling it in the future. I'm not planning on selling anytime soon but I'm baffled on that one so I figure I might as well ask here.

    thanks

How can i find right code for WC (NYC) ?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 09:01 AM PDT

    Guys hi,

I am doing WC for our tour company (we just starting). We are planning to do 3 tour types (each guide will specialize only on his own type).

I spoke with insurance broker, and he said that Walking Tour Guide will have code 8742, and Bicycle Tour Guide & Pedicab Tour Guides will be 7368.

When checking 7368 at nycirb it shows

TAXICAB OR LIVERY SERVICE-PUBLIC-ALL OTHER EMPLOYEES & DRIVERS

    LIVERY SERVICE-PUBLIC-ALL OTHER EMPLOYEES-& DRIVERS

which makes perfect sense for Pedicab Tour Guides, but definitely not for Bicycle Tour Guides.

Is it worth fighting for higher ACV on totaled car?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 06:47 AM PDT

In Texas, car was totaled in hail storm.

The ACV they stated for the car was 11,250. In my own research I had 12,500 to 13,500. But honestly I was going to accept 12,000 just to be done w/ the process and not have to hassle. So I told the adjust I thought 12,000 was the bottom I'd accept for a cash sale of the car in previous condition. The KBB Private seller value is 12,250 for the mileage. Of course he tells me I can send him comparables and they can review it w/ the adjuster. He tells me it takes about a week longer and goes on and on about all the factors they use to calculate the ACV and I'll have to provide that information. And/or an independent appraisal will cost several hundred dollars which is split but doesn't get reimbursed and could even come out less than their initial ACV.

The problem is that in the immediate market there are only 4 cars for sale of same make, model, and trim. One is 2k miles lower, 1 is 6k miles higher, and the other 2 are more than 10k fewer miles. This is kind of nuts to use such a small data set for comparable prices because these are the listed price and not the sold prices. Which I have no way of finding. Even if I did a nation wide search which does show prices closer to 12000 I suspect they will tell me the cars aren't in my market, or that's a private seller, or that it's an independent dealer, or some other excuse AND I'd have to pull car history reports to verify equivalency.

My bank advised me not to get in on another car loan until this claim is cleared so that it doesn't show up as me buying a 3rd car on my credit history. Also, I don't have rental insurance so every day w/o a car is $40 (although, we've just been using the one car for the last week to save money).

So I feel like i'm getting screwed out of $750. Is it worth fighting for the $750? Has anyone had any success in getting higher ACV? Any advice? This process is so draining.
