Insurance for a business on our property...

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:06 PM PST

We plan to buy a shed and put our finished product (Elderberry Syrup) inside on our property. Our business liability insurance agent said we should let our home owners insurance know we would be conducting business on the property. We plan to hold our product here and have customers pick up when they choose that option. Our home owners insurance (Geico) won't issue us home owners insurance because we'd be distributing and selling a food product on the property. We are having a hard time finding an insurance that will allow this. Any ideas?

Have an interview for a "Subrogation Specialist" job for a major insurance company. Questions

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:57 PM PST

    Hey all,

I have an interview coming up for a Subrogation specialist - outbound position and I was wondering if someone in the industry could tell me about it and what its like etc. I don't have any experience in the industry and I am moving over from a retail management job. I was told this is less stressful than being a 100% client facing adjuster/claims rep, but I know it's still a lot of work.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

How to say deductible and expenses paid by the contractor?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:42 AM PST

    Hi

We just don't know how to explain it to my girlfriend's client.

My girlfriend works as a cleaner. She's got the job from cleaning agency, basically she's sub-contracted.

One of the client that she cleans claims that a furniture was broken while my gf was cleaning. My girlfriend doesn't think that she's the one who broke the furniture. However, she doesn't mind paying the damage since the cleaning itself pays really well regularly.

The insurance policy is : The cleaner needs to admit that she was the one who broke the furniture and then she will have to pay $500 first, then the cleaning agency will pay maximum $500,then after that the insurance will pay the rest up to 5 millions

How would my gf explain about this to her client? We don't know the lingo

Company forgot to cancel health insurance after layoff

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:23 PM PST

    Hello,

I was let go due to a company restructure in late January. I was told I would have health insurance until the last day in January, after which coverage would be canceled.

I still had coverage all through February. This company has no HR department and is very irresponsible when it comes to general management of its employees from a paperwork perspective. Pretty much every employee that got fired or laid off last year ended up being on the insurance payroll for about 5 - 7 months before it was caught.

I have a neurological disorder and my monthly medication is very costly (~3k per month retail). The health insurance (total cost billed to the company) is ~$450 ($90 for my employee responsibility).

Should I anticipate them sending me a bill for the retail cost of my healthcare for each month they continue to (accidentally) keep me covered?

My former boss (CEO that was let go) told me not to say anything to the company and if they cover me it's on them, but the office manager (who I am friends with) said they would probably be sending me a bill for the retail value of whatever was charged to the Aetna plan once it's recognized in error.

Can someone tell me what the general law is regarding this, not that I am looking for legal advice here, but would just like some very basic guidance. Am I on the hook for my previous companies negligence to take me off their plan or not?

    I am located on Texas.

    Thanks.

Brother in Law's Dog Bit my 4 Year Old Son

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 08:10 AM PST

My son was bitten in the face and neck by my brother in law's dog, resulting in stitches to his lip and neck. He has an approx 1.5 inch stitch from his upper lip and a 2 inch stitch on his neck under his chin. He was hospitalized for the better part of a day and will need to go back for stitch removal either tomorrow or Monday.

We live in South Florida and I know for a fact my in-laws have a $1m liability policy because they have a pool and my wife made sure they had the coverage (she's a account rep with State Farm).

I'm an auto claims supervisor but have no experience with Homeowners or dog bite claims.

On top of the meds, what would be a reasonable/customary settlement range for this considering the injury, P&I, and likely facial scarring?

    Thanks in advance /Insurance!

Dental insurance plan says they cover this specific procedure 100% but the treatment plan only shows 50%?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 11:41 PM PST

Went to a dentist today and had a treatment plan printed out for me that shows I need a scaling for 'gingival inflammation' (D4346-- it doesn't come up on my insurance website's cost estimator though). The charge is only covered 50%, which ends up being $66 out of pocket. I can't really complain since that's hardly anything at all, but I'm looking at my insurance plan and I see this is very specifically mentioned as being covered 100% ("Scaling in presence of generalized moderate or severe gingival inflammation" is classified as Diagnostic and Preventative care). I don't see anything on my plan besides crowns, inlays, prosthodontics, and implants that are only 50% coverage.

As you can guess, I'd rather not pay out of pocket if I don't have to. Is this something I should call and ask for clarification on? Or rather, is this something I *can* call for clarification on? As in, if I called my insurance customer service line, would they be able to provide an explanation for me? I have BCBSTX/BlueCare Dental through my dad's employer.

I'm new to utilizing insurance, so I could be missing something very obvious. Any enlightenment on the matter is appreciated!

Edit: I did want to mention that I am seeing an in-network provider. I called to confirm with my insurance, as did the dentist's receptionist today to confirm benefits.

Rear-ended at a complete stop. Will it raise my Geico insurance?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:53 PM PST

Hi! I was rear-ended at a complete stop at a paytoll booth by a toothless fisherman. It gave my 2013 Prius a dent, but thankfully I walked away with minor whiplash. I have a witness, the guy working the toll booth. The fisherman has car insurance and I have pictures of his car and the license plate.

If I file for insurance, will it raise my Geico rate? I'm obviously not at fault, but my husband had an at-fault accident last year when he dodged a dog and clipped a fence.

Can insurance help with a note?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:29 PM PST

My car was backed into in a parking lot (I was not there) and thankfully the person did leave a note admitting he did it with his first and last name and phone number.

I have texted the number without any response. If I am unable to get ahold of him, can insurance work with that information at all?

There were cameras in the parking lot and I can try to figure that out in the morning if I need to.

I will contact my insurance (full coverage) but I'm hoping to not end up with deductible costs. Is that a remotely reasonable hope?

How to become a surety company

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:54 PM PST

Hello Insurance experts and enthusiasts. I have the following two simple questions:

    1. How to become a surety company, my online search didn't get me any closer to the process (I realize the process might be state specific, but any pointers would help)
    2. Can you write contracts to simulate a surety bond? For example, can I just write a contract between me and two other parties where I act like a surety?

    Thanks.

CA - Auto Insurance - Premium increase with no change in my information?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:43 PM PST

I have been insured with Geico since March 2017 and my 6-month premiums have been fairly consistent between $187-267 (+/-10%). Last at-fault accident was in Nov. 2016, no change in vehicle and who is insured on the policy (only myself and spouse). There has been no violations or other accidents (knock on wood).

My latest 6-month premium is now at $414, which is a 62% increase from the previous premium. I called Geico and was informed that this is a result of CA having more "advanced" vehicle and accidents that Geico needs to cover its base. I shopped around online and quotes are about the same range.

I am wondering if anyone is experiencing something similar? Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you!

Auto insurance stiffing me on my UIM policy

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 06:33 PM PST

    CA

Over 2 years ago, another driver totaled my car. Due to limitations and circumstances of the accident, I was given a low offer from the responsible driver's insurance provider. My agent, from my own auto insurance provider, encouraged me to take the low-ish offer, and said the difference would be made up with my UIM policy. So I did just that, and filed a claim with my UIM policy. The most I could get from my policy is $19k. From the accident, I injured both knees, had multiple x rays, MRIs, saw numerous physical therapists over several months, had a cortisone injection, and a doctors note saying I had to be put on modified duty for 5 months. One of my knees has healed, but the other has a torn meniscus that cannot be repaired with surgery and permanent nerve damage that affects my day to day life, and my ability to do my job (I've returned to my regular work duties, but I still suffer from chronic pain when I aggravate the nerve damage). My doctor has said the next step in treatment is PRP/stem cell injections. Each treatment session is ridiculously expensive, and my doctor said I will need a minimum of two treatment sessions. My health insurance does not cover this treatment, and this facility will not treat me on lien, so basically I am waiting on a settlement from UIM, as the $6k settlement from the other driver's insurance provider went to other debts this accident has left me in.

Despite having a permanent injury, despite having been encouraged by my agent to accept a $6k offer from the other driver, despite my agent telling me my UIM policy would cover $19k in pain/suffering/lost wages/time off work/future medical treatment, my agent has offered me $9200. I find this outrageous and insulting. I still have a third party attempting to collect on medical bills from the accident, and I'm not even close to getting out of the financial mess this accident left me in.

Why is my agent making such a low offer? What more can I do to get them to counter with a higher offer? At this point, I'm collecting all my medical records from the dozen + medical professionals I was seen by, and will be presenting everything to my primary care physician and will be asking for a referral for a world renowned doctor who specializes in PRP therapy and will look to see if I can get a permanent/stationary disability rating, since that's what my status will be if I cannot get PRP therapy. I'm trying to avoid a lawyer as much as possible.

Any additional advice would be most helpful. TIA

Need help getting insurance to cover for damages

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:37 PM PST

After some recent rain (Santa Clara, CA), one of our laptops was damaged by water that dripped through the ceiling after a rainy weekend. We had never experienced damages from rain before, but the laptop is dead and was completely waterlogged. There was a noticeable brown spot on the ceiling above the laptop and a puddle on the table. We took pictures and contacted our landlord right away, and she had some guys take a look at it. The AC maintenance guy found there was "door" that was slightly open in the ceiling, so they closed it. We have not had issues since then.

Our office's landlord has insurance and our company also has commercial insurance, but both are refusing to cover the laptop. We are worried that because of this, there may be other similar situations where neither insurance will cover for the damage, especially for things that are more expensive. Who should cover the damage, and how can we get one side to acknowledge this?

    Insurance not covering, “not rated”

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:01 PM PST

I got car insurance through an agent.

Recently my son hit our car on a pothole and total cost will be several thousand. I called my insurance (Bristol West, yes I learned from my mistake not to renew) and they said they cannot cover him because he is not-rated, even though he is on the policy. I don't recall placing him as "not rated" but from what I read online it says he still is covered....so why are they refusing to pay?

Edit: So I talked to them again. Main issue is they're saying he's non rated for driving a car for someone else. I told my insurance agent to ensure that the car is allowed to be driven by all four, but primary driver being my wife. They're basically saying now he is non rated and unable to drive that car and if he does then the claim has to be approved. (Before they outright denied any chance of coverage)

    Liberty RightTrack Experience... generally positive

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 06:00 AM PST

So, I've just completed RightTrack, which I used methodically, and came out with some good results.

Before I signed up for RightTrack, I'd googled around looking for people's opinions and I'd found quite a few fairly unsubstantiated claims from disgruntled users, and I felt like I could add a bit of balance to the internet's dialog on this!

FYI this is the OBD PLUGIN device, not the app linked device. It's kind of primitive and the web interface is basic, but it also seems very honest.

I had a less common experience to an average commuter owner because my car is used a lot less in the winter, so I didn't have the "surprise" through mileage racked up through commuting etc.

    My observations:

    • Mileage obviously impacts. With an initial 100 mile run, it reduced by a few %, but after 430 miles over 90 days, I received no further reduction in discount, which suggests it's looking for a higher average than what I was hitting before bringing the discount down
    • I returned late at night at 12:03 (yes, really) and received a few % drop for that few minutes; this is by far one of the most imbalanced concepts and greatly penalises shift workers, though I understand the risk profile is different at that time.
    • I had 3 sudden braking events, which reassuringly, were all very obvious when I did them; a couple of confusing junctions where I misread the road and stopped a bit quickly. There were no "phantom" events as some have experienced with, I think, the app version. You drive smoothly, and carefully, you won't get this event. I didn't get any from jolts when parking etc, which surprised me, but maybe it's just as much to do with where it sits in the car and the type of car/suspension you have.
    • The sudden braking events each took a 2-3% reduction from the score.
    • I had no acceleration events, but what do you expect, I'm in a Subaru Outback!

In the end I had 18%. I balanced not being entirely neurotic with thinking about my driving, and I'm happy. I could have been "more perfect", but who is.

My opinion is that the biggest con is the discount is only on one part of the insurance, but luckily I knew this already. So, the overall reduction wasn't great. But I would argue the device does encourage good discipline and make you think twice about getting yourself in a position where you might need to slam the brakes.

I might have screwed up, help?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 11:33 AM PST

I have Geico insurance, California. I was getting on the freeway, and someone decided to try and get on the entry and hit me. Pulled over, I was in an accident last year, so I am in a bit of shock, call Geico.

Person admitted fault to me, but city of San jose does not do police reports if no one is hurt. CP officer came out, but decided the accident was not on freeway, but on city, so no report. My car was damaged, but I called insurance and said I thought I could drive home. I now think i should not have driven home. I asked if it could make it worse if the bumper was dragging, and the guy said he didn't think so, but I am now thinking it did, and they totaled my car. The insurance accident report person called me while i was in the car today, and i am freaking out a bit . She did not interview me because i was driving and I need to call her back. I was clearly hit, so I do not know what is going on or what I should say. Can they make this my fault because i drove home?

What should I say about the accident when interviewed? I know the other party did take pictures of my car while waiting for a tow. I didn't think it was an issue, but can they now try and make it my fault? she merged into me and hit me while I was going straight.

Advice about what I should say or do at this point would be appreciated! I am sitting here shaking, thie last time was so stressful, I don't know if I can do this again, and all i did was drive straight!

Changes with employer's medical plan. PPO vs. HSA Qualified

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 11:25 AM PST

I have a family of 4, husband and I typically go to the doctor once a year. I am an asthmatic, it's very controlled, but I do go through 2-3 inhalers a year. We have a 11 year old, who gets sick about twice a year, nothing major. We have a 17 month old, who was hospitalized 3 times last year, and lots of extra doctor visits, nothing major discovered yet, but most likely asthmatic as well (they will not officially diagnose him until he is older) .

The rep at the company meeting is really pushing the HDHP plan, since the deductibles are the same.

I am just nervous because I do not really understand the differences in what each plan covers, or what would be best for the family.

Summary of in-network benefits (PPO vs. HDHP with HSA):

    • Monthly premium: $820 vs. $600
    • Deductible (family): $3000 vs. $3000
    • Annual OOP maximum (family): $12000 vs. $6850
    • Preventive care: $0 for both
    • Typical coinsurance (after deductible): 20% vs. 20%
    • Drugs (generic): $10/$30/$60 vs. 20% after deductible
    • HSA: none vs. $1000 contribution by employer

The difference in yearly premium is around $2400. If I put that into the HSA, we will have $3400 in the HSA per year.

Any insight would be highly appreciated!

edited : small mistake I made.

My Wife & I Are Being Billed For A IUD Despite Being Told It Was Covered. Is There Any Legal Action We Can Take?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:32 AM PST

The bill is coming out to almost 2 grand. I have attached a screenshot of the bill here with all personally identifiable information removed.

    https://imgur.com/a/kV09lSC

We did a lot of independent research before we made this move. It appeared as though an insurance provider was not able to name one specific IUD and only cover that, if your physician determines that another one is right for you. In our case it was a levonorgestrel releasing IUD, which seems to be a new technology with no generic alternative when I Google it.

Our doctor and the office told us that it would be covered. I just called them and they said they coded it as preventative care to Caresource, which what I have read online says is supposed to be done. I have requested they mail me an appeal and I was planning on using this letter as a template.

    https://nwlc-ciw49tixgw5lbab.stackpathdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/iudletter_updated-11.6.17.pdf

Is there any further action I can take? I recognize that when we did the research we should have called Caresource directly, but I don't like to trust reps to give us proper information (the one that I just talked to before making this post was absolutely clueless and asked what an IUD is. I think I am getting one of those at-home reps that have 0 chance of being able to do anything significant for me). Is it even possible for a procedure like this not to be covered? I really can't find a whole lot of legal information about this online. The plan was started mid last year so wouldn't be grandfathered into the old rules. The plan was purchased off of the ACA exchange.

Who's at fault in a left turn/right turn collision?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 06:42 AM PST

Almost got into an accident with someone who turned all road rage bitchy on me this morning. And I could see this situation either failing on both of us or mostly on them.

I was in the far right-only lane and when the light turned green for me I took my right turn (into a 2 lane road) Now I specifically remember the diagram from the driver's Ed book that says the right turn lane turns into the lane closest to the curb then switches into the left lane if they need to. They don't just turn directly into the left lane. I usually do my best to follow this rule but yes there are days where I don't follow this rule for whatever dumb reason. I'll take that fault. Granted...I'd never do a left turn when someone is making a right turn simply because maybe 1 in every 10 cars actually follows this rule from my observation.

However, there was also a decently sized snow pile on the curb too so even as I made a right turn I'd have to go at least halfway into the left lane just to avoid colliding with it.

As I was making my turn, someone who was in their left turn lane made their left turn and almost collided into the back left side of my car.

Thankfully nothing happened but now I'm curious to see how this would possibly play out insurance wise.

Left to do have to yield to oncoming traffic of course...but I also did make a dumb right turn into the left most lane.

    Edit: this is in ohio

Can an invoice for repairs be sufficient or do I need a claim # or receipt for reimbursement?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:26 AM PST

    Hi everyone!

In September of 2018 my vehicle was damaged by a piece of equipment that fell from my apartment's parking garage. To fix the damage I went to a trusted body-shop, they wrote up a bill for $1500.00. After explaining the situation to my apartment they agreed to reimburse me for the costs of the repair through there insurance provider ( I have this is in an email). I have not had the work performed yet but intend to when I go on a vacation in a few months to avoid a rental car. I reached out to the apartment complex last week with a copy of the invoice requesting a check for the cost of the repairs because I worry if I wait too long in might cause problems down the road. The response I received was "do you have proof you submitted it through your insurance or a receipt you paid for the work?"

Ultimately I want to avoid insurance out of fear my rate my change because of this incident despite it not being my fault.

Is an insurance claim number or a receipt for the amount of the repairs paid something I'm obligated to provide to the Apartment's Management in order to get the $1500.00?

    Thanks!

Need help negotiating with insurance adjuster

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:27 AM PST

We are trying to settle the auto accident injury claim with farmers insurance in Texas. My wife got in an accident back in December where her car was totaled and she suffered soft tissue injuries, bruises and sores for couple of weeks. Doctor advised 3 weeks complete rest. She returned to work after 3 weeks but got sick pretty severe for another week after just working for a day (fever, headache, cough). In all she took 4 weeks off from work using her PTO and unpaid FMLA, costing around 18k in wage loss, $1.2k in medical expense. We demanded 29k including pain and suffering to settle the claim but got a low settlement offer of 4.3k ( https://imgur.com/a/f7qI3ei). Is this how the settlement offers looks like without the breakdown of what amount is for what? Also, how should I go about negotiating from this low offer. This is our first time so any help much appreciated.
