what did you wish you knew before register as an LCC

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 06:33 PM PST

I'm registering as an LLC this coming week in Texas and am so nervous over how real everything is becoming from my little business idea to my new baby!

What are some things you wish you had known before registering? any suprises? anything you would've done different?

Anyone have a business teaching people how to code? Could you share how long you've been doing it and how well its doing?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 06:43 PM PST

Two friends and I are opening multi-faceted recording studio, online art shop. How should we file and when (llc?, s-corp?)?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 08:55 PM PST

Just wondering what the best way to go about this is. We dont need investment capital really, and probably wont be making loads of money to begin with. We will probably be leaving most of the money inside the business bank account for the first year or so,

how will taxes be handled as an llc? Will we be double taxed as a business and when it hits us personally? How should we prepare for it?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance! This sub is awesome

VA (and SBA) Loan and business mentoring for veteran owned small businesses?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 10:20 AM PST

Hi! I am an honorably discharged veteran starting a business with a veteran friend of mine. We both have service connected disabilities. We have received approval for our LLC, and are curious to know what kind of VA resources might be available to us. I have done a lot of googling but after so many redirects and different sources of info I feel like I have less of an idea of what we have access too than when I began lol. We know that the VA does not itself provide loans but are curious to see if anyone has experiences with any veterans (or other non vet sba) programs that helped them start or grow their small business?

We are a small 3d printing service bureau in Toledo Ohio, so our core business will be low volume/ prototype manufacturing.

Also, any info on what licenses we may need to operate legally in our area would be very helpful. Nearest I can find is that there is no license that fits our business. So does that mean we aren't required to have an operating license?

Once again, thanks for your help. This sub has been a great resource and we really appreciate the assistance.

    [B2B] Customer Order Cancellation

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 04:16 AM PST

Hi all, looking to draw on some advice on how to tackle my current situation as well as negating any in the future.

We work Business-to-Business only (90%+ UK based) and provide a number of different items to our customers. Some are manufactured from a third party (we're essentially the middle man) and some are manufactured by us in-house.

We've had a customer recently decide they no longer want an order they've placed (purchase order # received at order). This order was due to be dispatched within the next 24-48 hours. At the time of order from the customer we needed some material to complete the request, so naturally ordered this in, but because of the cancelled order we can't return/cancel our material purchase so we're left out of pocket.

We have no terms set out about order cancellations and we tend to provide quotations more informally I guess, i.e. verbally or email.

In the above example, is the lack of terms of business the deciding factor in our ability to try and recoup any payment from the customer? Because it's B2B is the receipt of a PO enough for us to still send an invoice for the work (is this outlined anywhere if so)?

Moving forward, what are usual supplier terms/clauses put into place to ensure something like this doesn't happen?

    Thanks.

    Was shipstation hacked?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 04:44 PM PST

Just had both my business credit cards come up fraud alert at the same time. The only common thread between them is shipstation. I can't find any public disclosures that shipstation was hacked, but one of the cards was barely used anywhere else.

Anyone else have their cards that are in shipstation recently come up with fraud?

    Need help naming an app

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:04 AM PST

Ok so I'm normally quite quick with these things but because it's an app and basically the title has to tell you what it is I am struggling.

It will tell you about what's served on draft (beer) in pubs around you.

    Any ideas?

What book did you read as a child/teenager that you look back on and realised that it influenced a career path that you took?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 01:49 AM PST

    Hiya,

I'm looking to write a blog post on books that influenced small business owners as kids/teenagers. So my question is what book(s) did you read as a child/teenager, looking back now, do you think influenced a career path that you took?

For me, it was Nyengi Coins "Time Changes Yesterday". It led to me writing my first story as a teenager and many many years later, I published my first book and like they say, the rest is history.

Please put the name of the book and link to it on Amazon or Goodreads, how it influenced you and the career path you took as a result. Also include your name as you want it displayed and a link to your website. I will simply copy and paste this as a direct quote.

    Best wishes,

Why does reddit reqhire all that funding?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:51 AM PST

It's not that complicated of a site, maybe most resources are put on security? Also, their app is the worst mainstream app I have ever used, together with Quora

So I really don't understand where that money is going and if needed at all. It's baffling.

How to Make IT Outsourcing a Success in 2019?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 08:42 PM PST

These days every other company in the neighborhood is doing 'IT Outsourcing'. If we take any one country in particular, like India, we can see that there are thousands of such outsourcing companies. IT outsourcing projects are their bread and water. For clients, outsourcing is an alluring prospect.

So, how can make sure that your IT outsourcing becomes a success in 2019? How can you avoid some common yet costly pitfalls in vendor selection? It begins with choosing the right IT outsourcing company!

Key Steps in Making IT Outsourcing a Success in 2019

Choose the Right IT Outsourcing Company

    1. Identify their Core Competencies

Once you have confirmed on your IT requirements, the next task is to shortlist outsourcing service providers based on the vendor selection criteria. Identifying core competencies is a major vendor selection criteria for successful offshore outsourcing.

Every service provider has a niche area of expertise. If some are good with digital transformation services, then the others might be good with staffing augmentation. Choosing the right service provider for the right role makes all the difference. Otherwise, we know that a jack of all trades is a master of none.

To begin with, you can utilize IT analyst platforms such as Clutch, GoodFirms, etc., to learn more about their core areas of expertise. If the shortlisted IT outsourcing partner has more focus on mobile application development, then you will identify a pattern involving more mobile app projects. Look for patterns like these in Clutch or other research platforms and understand their core competencies.

    2. Analyze the Resource Pool

India is well-known as the house for a rich pool of talented software engineers. The universities in India have high educational standards. Hence, finding an adequate resource pool is never a problem while outsourcing your Information Technology needs to Indian software development companies.

During the evaluation stage, analyze the team's educational qualification, experience in the domain, and expertise with the required technology stack. Communication skills is a priority along with the other skills. At the end of the day, there should be an understanding among both the parties and this will not be possible without proper communication.

Also, look for the number of similar projects and clients handled. It is also ideal to analyze the chosen IT outsourcing partner's reputation among the existing clients. On a similar note, aligning cultural and work ethics are also important. These values strengthen the outsourcing relationship between the client and the company.

    Small business marketing

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 05:51 PM PST

    Hi all.

I started a business in October of 2018. I still have a full time job and the company I work for stopped doing residential computer repair service. They refer that business to me to do on the side. I make roughly 3k a month from the referrals but I have to pay 50% back to my boss for two years on the referrals. Obviously I'm looking to branch out and get money from new clients.

I currently pass out business cards to the existing clients that are referred . I also started working with a marketing agency a couple months back. They were a disaster. I would set appointments to go over marketing and nobody would be there for the appointments. It would take up to 3 weeks to get back to me on basic questions. They ended up referring me to another person who ran a review on the competition analysis I faced and keyword searches for Google. I paid 500 for this. It honestly didn't tell me much that I didn't already know.

We ended up deciding to do advertising in a couple local newspapers near me. I paid another 500 for this. I have only got one call in the month that didn't even go anywhere. The advertising person is going to keep advertising for another two months and I will have to pay 1k to him.

I just feel like the advertising will go nowhere and I will be paying roughly 2k and getting nothing in return. Currently I get asked about if and when we should do stuff but I honestly have no idea on when or how advertising should be done. Isn't that what I'm paying that person for? Is the marketing just about throwing a bunch of stuff on a wall and hoping it will stick?

    Business growing painsc advice.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 11:05 PM PST

I really need help navigating this Ugly Teenager (no offense to any actual ugly teens) phase that by business is in. I'm a solo business development and marketing manager for a niche industry. I use a network of outsourcers and close collaborators to fulfill the plans I create for clients.

The problem is that I'm finally too busy for one man, but don't make enough to hire anyone. I desperately need help. Honestly, I'm fucking exhausted (sorry guys for the language but I'm sure anyone who's been here before knows what I mean).

My pricing has been adjusted for the year. (tested by increasing fees until clients dropped).

Getting a loan isn't an option. Nor is taking on an investor.

And I don't have the bandwidth to hire another VA overseas right now. I'll survive more time training then than what I have.

    Help! Much obliged.

    LLC, S Corp, Sole Proprietor?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 10:16 PM PST

Hi! I'm currently doing private personal training at local parks, people's homes, and my garage with an LLC. I have insurance that covers me up to 1 million per year and a personal training certification. I was unaware that the minimum tax is $800 for having an LLC in California... I was wondering if going with S Corp or Sole Proprietor would be a good idea to avoid this fee. I just started in January so my revenue is not very high and $800 would be a fat tax for me.

From what I researched, S Corp will have less taxes but doesn't protect my own assets if I am sued. I am 23 and live with my parents so the house is under their name, but i do own a car. I was wondering if they would be able to take my parents' house in the event that i really mess up and lose everything. Anyone that does private training, what business license do you have? Thanks!

Would this be an appropriate place for input on my e-commerce store?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:41 PM PST

I recently launched my line of fragrances—which consists of two fragrances. The site looks good so far, and I'm not having conversion issues because I'm not actively driving traffic. But the site just seems...boring. Am I allowed to post it here for suggestions? Would anyone be bothered to give it a look? If not I can DM the URL to anyone interested in taking a look.

Any interest in a diy small business website and marketing course?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 07:53 PM PST

    Hi all,

I've done website design and internet marketing as a side gig for small businesses and organizations for about ten years now.

I'm considering launching a video course that would provide concise step-by-step instructions on how to quickly and inexpensively create an attractive and high converting website yourself and market it on google and social media.

Do you think there is market for this?
