Take Two Interactive Earnings DD (long $TTWO)

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 01:02 PM PST

This publisher of "Grand Theft Auto" and other video games is expected to post quarterly earnings of $2.75 per share in its upcoming report, which represents a year-over-year change of +118.3%.

Revenues are expected to be $1.48 billion, up 126.8% from the year-ago quarter

TTWO got beat down pretty hard after Red Dead Redemption 2 sales surpassed estimates, but not by enough. they were one of the most popular games trending on various internet sites and social media this past month, and I expect the sales will beat estimates.

Grand Theft Auto V is their most successful game franchise of all time, and is still a cash cow. It was the 14th most streamed game on twitch, neck and neck with Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty 4.

NBA 2k19 is very popular here in the US, along with many other countries, but most importantly; China. It is extremely popular overseas and is trending on Chinese internet sites. I expect this will help boost earnings greatly.

Also, although many American companies have been affected by tariffs, which has brought down the general market, TTWO shouldn't be greatly effected as there are no tariffs on Video games or digital content.

And there is talk in China about slowing the use of video games and the government painting a bad picture for games. I think they would likely target violent games first, before they mess around with a basketball game.

Tl;dr: Overall, TTWO will benefit from surprising sales numbers, especially with NBA 2k19 overseas.

What is acceptable level of unprofitability for growing company?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:50 AM PST

If company is losing money (growing company) how do you determine if it's acceptable level or unprofitability and most likely company will make it,

or if it's unacceptable losses and most likely company will never make it.

I am thinking about looking at ratio of loses to revenue, or free cash flow to revenue.

    Thoughts on Pot Stocks?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:57 AM PST

I'm looking at CRON, CGC, and ACB. They're all reaching a 52-wk high and I'm wondering if I should wait for a drop in price per share and if so, how low do you all think it'll go? Or, if I should just buy now, I'm not sure if it'll even go back down to what it used to be at like 3 months ago. Also, what are your guys' thoughts on APHA? Should I sell my shares because of this drama going on?

What's One Stock You Would Pick Up With An Extra $4k?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 07:26 AM PST

Recently dumped $4k into my USD TFSA from my Canadian.

Currently have a bunch of ETFs, exposing me to different markets, and want to take a flier on a few stocks.

I was thinking of purchasing 2 shares of AMZN after their sell off next week and the rest adding to my AAPL position.

    What would you do?

Why is there such low relative volume?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:26 PM PST

Ever since the the dip to 1000 point run up until now there have been almost no stocks on my watch list that have their average volume by the end of the day. Usually ending the day at around 60-75% of the average volume.
I assumed this was due to HFT during the crash being the only trades willing to jump into the uneasy market but the trend is still going even though the market has been in a strong rally.

Every time I check the finviz main page I see the relative volume bars under 1.0.

Anyone have any insight on this? Is it just because everyone is still cautious? My only guess is that since the directions have been so defined that there isn't as much trading as there is buying and holding and shorting and holding.

Interesting Stock Market Fact of the Day: Buy Stocks before Wall Street turns bullish?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:58 AM PST

JP Morgan argues investor shouldn't wait for analysts to upgrade estimates for stocks as history shows that positive earnings revisions can sometimes lag the stock market by over a year! JP Morgan uses 2016 as a recent example where the market bottomed out in February, but analyst earnings revisions only turned positive near the end of the year. The bank argues that the current positive earnings cycle should continue into CY2019, fueled by a continued robust economic expansion.

    Tencent / other gaming stocks?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:28 PM PST

Just a quick background about myself. I don't know too much about buying stocks, as I typically just follow the market as a whole but I'm thinking about making some long term investments.

One area I have become interested in is gaming/esports/etc. With technology expanding at the rate it is, kids growing up spending the majority of their time playing video games rather than playing outside and all the other factors that make the future of gaming bright I really think investing in gaming companies could pay off huge in the long run.

After doing some initial research one company that stood out to me most was Tencent, seeing that it owns 40% of epic games (with fortnite breaking boundaries in the last year), other major game makers as well as a big social media platform.

Just wanted to come on here and get some advice/takes on what people think about long term investments such as tencent or any other gaming companies they think have bright futures.

Wanted to share my Roku win here

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:37 AM PST

Hi gang, I've always liked Roku as a product, and I'm a rookie investor. So I figured i'd buy some. When it dipped from it's all time high of 76ish to 65ish I figured that would be the time to get in! So I bought 50 shares. Of course it kept plummeting ever since, falling all the way down to 26.

Well I kept averaging down and down until finally my average cost was 38. Luckily that was before it roared back with a vengeance in early January.

I sold all my shares today for a 30 percent gain, amounting to about 10 grand. At one point Roku was 44 percent of my portfolio haha.

Anyways, I'm an idiot and could have been burned but instead I luckily got my first big win! I want to give thanks to this community.

P.S. I'm buying back in if it goes under 40 again.

[NEWS]: How do you guys think this will effect the release of Firdapse this year? Is this the end of hope for Catalyst? "Sen. Bernie Sanders will ask why a once-free drug now costs $375,000"

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 07:58 AM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/04/sen-bernie-sanders-will-ask-why-a-once-free-drug-now-costs-375000.html

I have a fair stake in this company. I believe the high price is for the benefit of the stockholders and due to the insane development time and cost for Firdapse! Even though the drug has been available for free, this was under strange conditions as Firdapse was NOT APPROVED BY THE FDA to treat LEMS... meaning it was essentially not even SOLD (in a sense).

European stock competition - What would you buy?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:44 PM PST

    Hi all,

I'll be participating in a virtual stock competition where you receive a virtual budget of €100.000 and you can invest it for 10 weeks. Obviously, the one with the biggest ROI wins the competition.

    • Budget: €100.000

    • Date: February 18 to April 26

    • Stock from the following stock exchanges: Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Brussels

    • You can buy stocks, ETF's, trackers and turbo's

What are your punts? There is absolutely no risk, so it is possible to go hard or go home, but the markets are maybe not that interesting to find gold.

    Opinions on EA?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 10:08 PM PST

EA is down about 30% since August of last year, and with their earnings coming up soon, is this a good spot to reenter in EA? It seems like many things are going in their favor as a rebuying point: The stock market has been doing well in 2019, tech is up again, gaming companies(Like NTDOY) have been on the rise once again and their earnings are coming up this week. I am planning on selling my stock in SHOP and reinvesting that in EA with their earnings coming up it could rise. Or would it be better to wait after earnings?

    Thanks for any advice.

Edit: I sold my shares in SHOP and reinvested half of that into EA. Thanks for the advice everyone. Hopefully earnings are good, but even if not, I think the stock was heavily affected by the market and is undervalued.

Price Target for Nvidia (NVDA) by the end of Q1?

Earnings are going to be released soon, and the expectations are low after they suffered Q4 2018. Anyone have a price target for the stock by the end of March? I see a possible climb again, the resistance right now is around $160. Support is around 127 and the stock is trading at 145 right now. Before it fell off after October, it was trading at 250-275. AAPL makes most of its money from the iPhone. Obviously this data won't be available in the future but from 2017 prior, where can I find the info of how many smart phones were sold? Rant about questions like "What are options and how do I get rich with them??"

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 11:51 AM PST

We're seeing an increasing number of posts like this. It seems against the sub's rules, it's supremely low-effort and more than anything it's just a shitty way to approach learning about anything.
If you'll forgive my rant, I just want to re-post my comment from another thread.

I don't know why people don't fucking just Google things or read one of approximately 10 thousand articles explaining what options are.

Questions like this make me so mad, and a bit sad. People looking for quick success just because they briefly overheard someone talking about something. Go read about it, understand what it is, and then make up your mind about whether it's the right move to fucking place an order for it.

To me, this sounds like someone asking "Hey bruh, I heard nuclear power is cool and can generate hella energy and stuff. So I bought some Uranium, what do I do now??"

On the other hand, I wish "low effort humans" like this get what they deserve and have their option contracts wiped flat out to zero within the week. For them, it seems the only way to learn what fire is, is to set themselves ablaze.

This stupid stuff just bothers me so much. And not just when it's about options. It's like a shitty approach to life and unwillingness to actually learn something. Like, you cheated your way through college and then fell flat on your face when trying to live in the real world. And now you're probably blaming the education system. Go make an effort to learn something before attempting to apply it, morons.

Sorry about the rant. Thanks for reading.
