Non renewed Allstate auto due to multiple not at-fault claims Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:03 PM PST I had a $1300 50/50 claim in 2016, they waved deductible it was so minor March 2018 an Uber ran a red light and cracked my axel, $17k, they are subrogating it as 100% his fault, police report listed him as sole party responsible December 2018 nyc sanitation truck hit parked unoccupied car, $10k claim they are subrogating with the city and will get the money back I filed both these big claims with Allstate to get it fixed quickly and not mess with out of pocket and wait times Now they are non-renewing me in March. Did they just mis-interpret these big claims as at-fault? Am I gonna have raised rates or even trouble getting a new policy with another insurer I have 4 other home/renter policies with Allstate. If they don't fix this I'm just moving them all probably to whoever gives me auto at the best rate. Hopefully I can just appeal with Allstate and have them change their minds. My broker's "system is down" so once she's back up hopefully she can help me deal with this. [link] [comments] |
Why are therapists so expensive? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:28 AM PST I'm currently in the process of trying to find a therapist and even thought they take my insurance and I have 100% financial aid, the co-pay is between 75-250 dollars per session. Why is this a thing? Why won't my insurance cover the co-pay? I truly want to know. [link] [comments] |
Need help with insurance coverage Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:13 PM PST My wife's company recently switched from blue cross to century healthcare. We both went through the selections multiple times to make sure we had the right options. Today she went to schedule an appointment for a therapist and was told her insurance was denied. She called the provider and was told that they pay nothing for any type of mental health services. Nowhere in any of the paperwork or online resources she was given mention this. What options are there? Neither of us are still in our open enrollment window. [link] [comments] |
Hit by red light runner 2 months ago, their claim is still open. Injured (CA) Posted: 04 Feb 2019 11:36 AM PST I was hit by a guy running a red light on November 25th. There was a witness who saw him run the red light and the police report states he is at fault. My car was repaired using my own insurance and I have it back now. The problem is, I have had neck, shoulder and back pain daily since the accident and want to go see a doctor to treat it. However, the other guy's insurance claim is still open and they have not been able to contact him to get his recorded statement. They are telling me that if he doesn't return their calls and give a statement that they can deny the claim due to nonpayment. They tell me they cannot tell me how long they will give him to cooperate (only that they make 3-5 "official attempts" before denial). In the meantime they advised me to go get checked out and treated and just know they can't guarantee payment of the medical bills. If this guy's claim gets denied, and I have uninsured motorist coverage, will my insurance company be required to pay back the bills I incur (such as doctor visits, diagnostic MRIs etc) up to my limit? Will they usually automatically reimburse up to a certain amount but then decline what they view as over the top? Do I need to incur all my charges and then present them with a final bill? I'm very worried about the financials here and could use some guidance. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Body shop wants to buy my totaled car Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:09 PM PST Recently had State Farm declare my vehicle a total loss. The damage wasn't that bad, just lots of really expensive parts need replaced. The body shop my car was taken to reached out to me because they want to buy the car, fix it, and use it as a loaner. Is it possible for them to buy directly from State Farm or do I have to buy my car back and then sell to the shop? I honestly just want this to all be over. I don't want to be the middle man in this transaction. Located in Michigan in that makes a difference. [link] [comments] |
1 million or 2 million of umbrella coverage? Cost is about 120 more a year. Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:01 PM PST I have about 2 million in assets. I'm also cheap and don't like wasting money. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Feb 2019 01:07 PM PST It's considered a random, unpredictable act of nature so my apartment company's insurance isn't liable... Even though they trimmed trees in that area just a few weeks prior, they technically had "no reason to suspect" that the tree branch would fall. Idk what to do. I can't afford to fix my car. Life agent - what company should I work for? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:24 PM PST Hi. Im 23 and I'm going to be a licensed life and health agent by the end of the month. and I have two jobs lined up. One is with principal financial. And the the other is is north western mutual. Both carrier agent opportunities. Principal offers 2k per month for first six months + any commissions on sales and North Western offers will offer that same 2k but in the form of a draw. Leaning towards north western mainly bc the quality of their polices. Commission rates are about the same... I just don't want to choose the wrong company just because of a guaranteed income for the first six months of my career. Any life and health agents out there that could give any input would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Insurance estimate way too low. Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:11 PM PST I was recently in a not at fault accident. The other driver ripped the bumper off of my 2008 Audi A6 and smashed the headlight. They estimated $4K in damage, when I KNOW it's gonna be at least $10K and total my car. What happens when the dealer actually looks at the car and determines it's too far gone? Ugh. Having a hard time finding an answer to this question. In Michigan for reference. Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:08 PM PST If I finance a car, so it's in my name, can I (and my car) be on someone else's policy, like my brothers? Or am I forced to have my own? Is this a company thing? My sister recently got a car in her name and AllState said she couldn't insure it on our parent's policy. I ask because as a 21M in MI, my rates are about $350/month. [link] [comments] |
Am I paying too much for car insurance??? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:41 PM PST My insurance is about $320-$340 a month. I am under a family plan, and not sure about further details, but under my plan by myself it is about $300+ 20 year old male 2013 Scion FR-S Been in one accident but was not my fault, 100% other drivers fault and all damages were paid by other driver. One speeding ticket, going 20 over, went to court and completed traffic school so it shouldn't be on my record right? Am I paying too much for car insurance? My parents probably picked all the plans and coverage so it's probably very good coverage knowing my parents but may not be necessary. [link] [comments] |

Car caused damage to my property - advice for dealing w/ adjusters Posted: 04 Feb 2019 06:11 PM PST Recently, a car damaged a shed on my property. The driver has auto insurance through Geico and I submitted a claim. I didn't contact my home owners insurance company. The person taking the information said I should be able to provide an estimate for a new shed and submit it and that for these types of claims, an inspection isn't needed. Now the insurance company wants to send an adjuster out to assess the damages. The damage is, what I would call, significant. A car hit the corner of my 12x10 shed, and ripped out 18" of one wall and about 3 feet of the other wall. It also damaged some of the contents inside. I haven't really dealt with adjusters before, so I'm looking for advice on dealing with the insurance adjuster. I would hope to be reimbursed for a new shed (probably around $1900 plus delivery), removal/disposal, and replacing the destroyed contents. Would the adjuster try to have the shed fixed? Is that possible for a pre-fab shed? Also, the car hit a tree and broke one of the branches. Its not terrible, but the decorative tree is no longer as nice or full on one side and has a "hole" in the branches. Is it worth asking for a new tree? Lastly, what should i look for in compensation? Should i assume they will try to low-ball the payment and I need to negotiate? I plan to provide estimates/quotes for all replacement items and services. [link] [comments] |
Car pelted with rocks from passing double tanker fuel truck. Posted: 04 Feb 2019 06:50 AM PST On my way to work on a 60mph one lane road a double tanker Sinclair fuel truck was driving the opposite direction and pelted my car with debris from the road. Gashes all over front windshield and driver side. Also damage on hood of car. Sent claim to Allstate. Is it my fault? Well my coverage go up? [link] [comments] |
Potential Lapse in Health Insurance - NY, USA What should I do? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:08 AM PST I am 22, about to graduate college in May. I am originally from FL but attend college and live in NY. My parents are divorced and my health insurance is through my mom who is retired from the Army. It is Tricare. From what I gather on the Tricare website is that my insurance will end once I graduate college (my ID card expires at the end of May). I accepted a full time job that will begin in August or September. It has full benefits including health insurance. I am not sure what to do for the months over the summer where I'm not covered by Tricare or by my employer health insurance. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if any more information is needed. [link] [comments] |

Got into accident my fault right before insurance renewal Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:27 PM PST As of this morning it showed I could get a discount by paying a lump sum and now that the claim has been filed I do not see the option. Is there any chance I can still renew at my current price. Im already on autopay but I didnt realize my 6 months was ending. [link] [comments] |
File Short term Disability with Work or just settle with Car Insurance? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:27 PM PST Got rear ended. Missed two weeks off work, and probably a few more days because of doctors appointments. This is in Oregon. Question 1) If I file with my works STD, and they pay me for the time missed off of work, do I still settle with at fault party? I think STD only covers 65-70% here in Oregon. Question 2) I do not get to cash both paychecks right? One from my work, and the other from the other car company. Question 3) If I accept the work disability, can I get the remaining 30-35% from the at fault party? For times off of work related to accident. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Party at Fault Will Not Cooperate with Their Insurance Posted: 04 Feb 2019 01:43 PM PST Hello, so on Jan. 21, 2019, I was driving on the right lane when a van, to the left lane of mine, makes a turn into a plaza entrance (to the right of me) thus getting in front of my vehicle and resulted in a collision. I filed a claim with my insurance and she also filed a claim with her insurance. However, she has since not been in contact with her insurance. Question: It's been about 2 weeks and the other party hasn't been cooperating with her insurance, what should I do? Also, I do not collision coverage. I have her contact information and was thinking of telling her I will be taking her to court. Thank you for your time. [link] [comments] |
Frozen pipes in house from thermostat, am I covered? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 01:23 PM PST I own a house that my elderly father lives in. Every week, I do maintenance on the boiler and stuff like that. Last week, he was sick, so I had him stay at my house with me for the week. In that time, the battery to the thermostat must have died, and because I am in a state that is very cold at the moment(NJ), a bunch of pipes froze. Is this something my insurance would cover? Also, it says on my policy that I have a deductible of $1,000 for all peril loss. Is this a peril loss? [link] [comments] |
Laptop damage unsalted sidewalk Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:34 PM PST So today as I was leaving my St. Paul apartment I slipped and fell on black ice from the stairs descending out of the doorway. Regular maintenance crew is supposed to keep this area salted regularly and this was at about 8am when most tenants are leaving for work. I'm pretty much fine aside from some soreness but my laptop (~$950) suffered a large crack across its screen. I filed an incident report with my apartment management and took a picture of the damage, and that will go on to their insurance company. My question I suppose is will this sort of thing be covered? I'm not the type to sue over something like this but expect some compensation seeing as it was on their property in expected inclement weather. My laptop was in a padded case in my backpack and I was wearing shoes with fairly reasonable traction so I feel I did everything on my side to prevent it. My apartment manager also wanted me to contact my renters insurance but I feel like they may be hoping my renters insurance will cover the damage but that may reflect poorly on me with increased rates for something that isn't my fault. I also have not gone to urgent care or anything for health status but don't really feel that that's necessary. Any help or guidance in this kind of situation would be greatly appreciated! I'm a student so that laptop is kind of my lifeblood in the middle of the semester and I've never had to file insurance claims like this before. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Dentist's say I cant pay cash because i have insurance? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:33 PM PST I have been trying to go to dentist and i have that obamacare or the states version of it. It covers a couple fillings and extractions, xrays and such. When i went to get more indepth work done it seems like that seemed to steer me away from trying to go there , I had to argue with them to make it happen. They make it seem like i will get kicked off my insurance if i pay out of pocket or something and im going to have to sign a waiver, lol Couldnt i just call back and say i didint have insurance? How would they know? Why would that even be a policy anywhere, you be locked into whatever your plan provides? Are they trying to make it not attractive toward me because they dont want clientele with lower echelon insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:25 PM PST So I was hit by someone pulling out without looking a month ago. I chose to have the car fixed at the dealership I work at. The parts have been ordered and arrived but my appointment keeps getting pushed back. At this point i'd rather take the money and fix the car myself. The person in the bodyshop I talked to did mention that the parts can be returned for a fee. The car is financed and I have AAA. Can anyone let me know if this is possible? [link] [comments] |
