Moved to new health insurance, denied coverage for a prescription I've been on for over 6 years Posted: 08 Feb 2019 02:03 PM PST As stated in title, I switched medical insurance this year to just be under my husbands plan. I take a C2 medication which cash price is $70, $40 with a discount card. New insurance required prior authorization and I found out today it was denied. I understand why prior authorization was needed but what could have lead them to deny? I've been on this medication for over 6 years with no history of abuse. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Feb 2019 01:48 AM PST I live rent free at my grandpas house while I finish up school and was wondering if I should get renters insurance just in case someone breaks in and steals all my stuff. I'm not sure if I have to be paying rent to get renters insurance or I can just go somewhere and get it. If I can what should I be looking for? I mostly have a lot of electronics ( custom built pc 1k, two gaming monitors about 400, record collection + turntable 1k, TV 1k, Apple products) about 3.5k in the room not much, but would be devastating if it all got stolen and I couldn't afford to buy it all again. what plans should I look for. Im 20 so I'm still trying to figure out how to adult :/ [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Feb 2019 10:29 PM PST Hi all, So I just had my first major accident a few hours ago. The gist of what happened: I was heading eastbound at a pretty major intersection, and a car was heading westbound making a left turn. I had the light and therefore right-of-way, and he pulled in front of me. Needless to say, we met. The fun part? He kept going. Didn't stop or anything. There was a cop pretty much right there, plus 2 witnesses that told the cop I had right-of-way and the other driver ran. I wasn't found at fault by the cop. I'm pretty sure the adjuster will total it (it's a 2014 Fiesta). I have full coverage through AAA, live in Michigan, and owe about $6,000, maybe a little less. This being my first real accident, how will this go forward? [link] [comments] |
Can I get car insurance before I own a vehicle, then add it after I buy it? Posted: 08 Feb 2019 10:06 PM PST I want to go test drive some vehicles, but one owner asked for a copy of my Auto Insurance. Someone hit me and totaled my car, so I cancelled my auto insurance because I knew I wasn't going to have a car for a while. How do I go about this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2019 09:01 PM PST I was a victim of a hit and run overnight and was wondering if I should go through insurance or not (GEICO). I live in Massachusetts with very high coverage across the board but I am worried that a hit and run claim will raise my rates. My driver side fender was dented and scratched pretty badly, so a replacement would probably run me ~$1,250. I'm currently paying $1,200 per year for my insurance if that matters. My deductible is $500 for collision and I have underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Although I'm not sure if you can use uninsured motorist coverage in Massachusetts for hit and run claims. Should I file a claim with Geico or eat the $1,250 out of pocket cost? [link] [comments] |

I filed a hit and run but they said it might be my fault Posted: 08 Feb 2019 04:38 PM PST Hello, I had a parked car that got hit while I was away. The damage is pretty significant. The Geico adjuster came and said it'd be around ~3k to fix the damages. However, I got sent to Geico's "special investigative unit" because I initially filed this as a vandalism claim (I didn't know the difference between vandalism / collision). Now they're saying they need to send an accident engineer to verify that the car wasn't in motion. How do they verify that? If this engineer deems that the car must've been moving for the damages to have occurred, am I fucked? Does this become at-fault and I have to pay a higher premium? Will this go on my record? Will they say i'm committing insurance fraud? Newbie at insurance, and just really afraid. Thank you for any advice / previous experience! [link] [comments] |
My truck was totaled- will I get enough to replace it? Posted: 08 Feb 2019 09:58 PM PST I had a 2008 Nissan Xterra SE with 130k miles and it was in clean condition, nothing major and it was paid off. It was my baby and I am heartbroken, My son borrowed the truck and was hit at an intersection by a Chevy avalanche dude is totally at fault and we are just waiting for the weekend to pass for the remainder of the whatever it is they do and get the settlement. My question- I would really like to just replace it with another Xterra, they are pricing out at about 7-9k. Will I even get enough to get one? Im so stressed and cannot financially afford to go into debt with another car payment. I would rather just pay cash and be done. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2019 10:44 AM PST Back in April 2018 I was involved in an accident where I was convicted of Leaving Scene Accident. They overlooked all the details of the accident including the part where I called the police to report the other driver leaving the scene as well. I am currently 18 years old and live in Alabama. They revoked my license two weeks after the court case making it so I could not appeal the case. In order to reinstate my lisence, I am required to show proof of SR-22 insurance. Alpha insurance quoted me at a 6-month premium which came out to $1913, down payment of $513, and four installments of $374. That is way too much money. My mind is going crazy right now considering I have to have my license for a job. I am just not sure what to do. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2019 08:53 AM PST My 5 year has some small speech issues... A little more so than most 5 year olds. I juts talked to BCBS and they said that they only cover speech therapy as a result of accident, illness, injury, or congenital anomaly. My question is what constitutes a congenital anomaly? Also, they said they weren't sure if the initial evaluation would be covered or not... Not very reassuring.... [link] [comments] |
Driving less equals paying more for car insurance? [GEICO - FL, US] Posted: 08 Feb 2019 08:14 PM PST Hello all! I'm new to this, so if I do or say anything wrong please let me know! I'll start by saying that I'm from FL - US (I guess that, for starters, you need that info). So I literally moved today to a place that's a 5-minute walk to my job. I don't even need my car anymore, I changed the details on my insurance (GEICO) and put that I will not be using my car for commuting but for pleasure, and that the number of miles I'll be driving drops from 12000 to like 800 (I guess I need to put something!). Anyways, when I added those details, my insurance went up $166 and I'm not sure why. Is it because of the location? Or do I really have to pay more if I'm going to drive less? Thanks in advance! Rear-end Collision Toward Me (Rental) Car Posted: 08 Feb 2019 02:00 PM PST Hiya! I got into a car accident. The man who hit me wasn't paying attention and slammed his brakes. I recently got into a car accident which got me to get a rental car. I haven't put my insurance card in there, and my phone was dead. Unfortunately, I didn't have insurance on me (I do have valid insurance). The other man said because I didn't have any, that he didn't need to show his. I still asked him for his, and that I wouldn't report the accident unless the rental car company spotted the damages. Now that I'm back home and able to see through the snow and mud, the damage is significant. There are dents, dings, and scratches all from his front end... He provided his USAA number and phone number, but I have a feeling they're fraudulent, and even then, he might not respond? What's my best course of action here? I was thinking of getting his information and exchanging, documenting the damage on the car, perhaps getting insurance on the rental car through enterprise, and when I turn in the car a day or two later, I'll see if they spot it? If they don't spot it, then I won't move ahead. If they do, I'll try to bring this situation up? I'm unsure of the best course of action. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2019 04:11 PM PST So, this is a very bizarre situation, but the long story short is I was in a car accident 2 months ago in FL. This totaled my new car and I have pretty extensive injuries. The guy driving was an employee of a business and decided to take a company car out for a joy ride. Because it was not business related the car insurance has completely denied the claim. If I get an attorney to file a lawsuit against the driver and/or company, assuming they have business insurance, would this go to them? I ask cause the guy driving likely has little to no assets and I probably couldn't get anything out of him. I'm not even looking for a large settlement, I just to be paid back for all these extra expenses I've had to pay out of my own pocket. [link] [comments] |
"Referrals," uncovered lab-work, and my HMO health insurance Posted: 08 Feb 2019 06:34 PM PST Hi everyone - thanks in advance for any help. As the title states, I have a HMO plan through a private health insurer. I went to a gynecologist (in network) and had a routine appointment. While with the gynecologist, I requested a full panel STD test. She say "okay," and sent me down to get my blood drawn. All goes according to plan. A month passes and I check out my online insurance portal. The visit to the gyno and the lab-work are listed as separate line items on my account. The gyno is labeled as "processed" - the full charge was paid by my insurer with no copay on my part. Awesome. However, I'm not so lucky when it comes to the lab-work, which is labeled as "denied." The system notes that, "We have no record of a referral from the member's PCP. Submit the referral and a copy of this EOP to ATTN: Referral Adjustments. If there is no referral, the member is responsible for payment." For reference, the gynecologist works within an in-network hospital, and the lab-work was completed at that same hospital. I guess I don't fully understand the "referral" process - was it not enough to be working with my in-network gynecologist when I had this work done? Did something go awry with my insurance here? Or did I not follow proper protocol? Am I able to get a referral after the lab-work was complete? I still have not seen a bill from the hospital - I've only seen all this on my insurance portal. The charge is equivalent to one month's rent for me; I'm really hoping I can find a way for it to be handled by my insurer, at least partially. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2019 05:49 PM PST Hi all, I have comprehensive insurance in California. I need some body work on my car for two different things. 1) dent in the door that I did myself when I got a flat. 2) dent in a rear quarterpanel that someone did in a parking lot when I was parked. Would it be one claim for both or two separate claims? I know two claims will jack my rate up more. Can I even claim damage I did on my own (the door) with comprehensive? [link] [comments] |
Geico insurance wants to do an "investigation" about a hit and run Posted: 08 Feb 2019 04:10 PM PST Hello, I car was recently dented right below the passenger headlight. I made a vandalism claim on geico, because when i found the damages, my car was parked, with the damages facing the sidewalk. So i assumed it couldn't have been another car. Geico sent an adjuster, who said "it looked like it was done by a car, so it'll be labeled as a collision". Then a claims person called and said i will just have to pay my $500 deductible, and the incident would be not at-fault. I'd like to have it done as a comprehensive claim (b/c my deductible is lower), but the damages did look like it was done by a car, so i was ok with it. Then i get a call from Geico's "special investigative unit" who says i need to interview. After intense questioning, they told me that it's because I said the car was parked on the sidewalk, but the damages show that it could be done by another car (It has red paint scuffs on the dent). She then talked about how they "need to confirm the damages and how it was created" with an accident engineer. She said they have to check if the car was in motion or not when the damage occurred. I said that I found the damages in the parked state, and it most likely didn't occur before that point. However, she thinks there could be a possibility I was driving the car, made the hit, and trying to get a "not at-fault" claim. But since I argued that it was parked and happened there initially, I'm afraid the accident engineer will say "there is a possibility he was driving" and that they'll hit me with like insurance fraud or something. I'm afraid they'll say I was lying because I firmly said the car was parked and I was not driving. But the damage does seem like it was caused by another car - maybe it happened elsewhere and i didn't find out about it til now. I just told my story honestly.... I just want my $500 deductible claim, and no more. I'm not lying - the car was damaged when i was not present. What can i expect moving forward? should i just withdraw my claim now? What are the chances of me getting an insurance fraud against me just because I initially said "I'm pretty sure the damage didn't exist before that particular night" and sent a supplemental information saying "It could've been done elsewhere, I genuinely don't know" Any help would be appreciated!! Retaining wall collapsed after heavy rain. Waiting for adjuster... Posted: 08 Feb 2019 03:39 PM PST TLDR: much rain in Indiana. approx 1/4 section of our 12' retaining wall collapsed. Will Travelers cover this or is it "flood damage"? Indiana: We've had a lot of rain in the last two weeks (snow too), flood warnings for the county the last two days. We are not in a flood plain. Our house is built into a hill with a walkout basement. Our driveway ends in a retaining wall with a 12-15 ft drop off. Exiting our first floor, the deck is even with the driveway. Down the deck stairs, our walk out patio is down that 12-15 ft. There are small retaining walls about 5ft high on either side of the patio. The high retaining wall at the end of the driveway furtherest from the deck has collapsed. Only about 1/4 of its length. The cars are fine. We have Travelers insurance and an agent will be here in the next 48 hrs. What are the chances they say "flood damage; tough luck" and I'm paying out of pocket for repairs? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Feb 2019 03:34 PM PST I live in the state of Oregon and had a lapse in coverage from May to December in 2018. My insurance was on auto-pay that did not go through and I had gotten the cards and thought I was covered. The lien holder for the car loan contractually requires that I have insurance coverage. If I cannot retroactively cover this date range, then I am in danger of losing the vehicle. I had no accidents during this time, and no claims against me. I would be willing to sign for all liability and a no-known damage form, but cannot find an insurance company that will retroactively cover these dates. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
help!!! Hawaii vaca turned to this Posted: 08 Feb 2019 02:11 PM PST I live in FL but was on vacation in Hawaii, I had to go to the hospital and long story short I just got a bill of $5,834.60. I had blue cross insurance at the time and so now I'm wondering will it cover any of it if it was out of state? Does the fact the hospital visit was in Hawaii matter? [link] [comments] |
Any renters insurance that covers accidental damage on electronics like iPads? [USA, MO] Posted: 08 Feb 2019 01:27 PM PST Hello, I have a LOT of electronics (video game systems, TV/speakers, iPhone/iPads, computer) and am considering an upgrade to the iPad Pro which appears fragile. My current renters insurance (State Farm) only covers damage by really rare events and not drops. Also, there's a $500 deductible which wouldn't cover things like bends or screen replacements due to drops. I know AppleCare+ covers those, but it's not cost efficient and is only limited to 1-2 years. I found an insurance company called Jetty that has a Personal Electronics Protection Power-Up which would appear to cover what I'm looking for, but it's not available in my state. Is there another service I could use to cover accidental damage on electronics instead? Thanks in advance! (I'm happy to remove the company names if that's not allowed.) [link] [comments] |
How does insurance work for injured passengers from out-of-state in Florida? - Part 2 Posted: 08 Feb 2019 01:27 PM PST This is a continuation from https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/a3pgrx/how_does_insurance_work_for_injured_passengers/ I'm trying to understand how this process works, as this has been the first I've been in a vehicle accident and it's been complicated because I was a passenger in an auto accident in Florida, when I'm from Indiana. I originally hired a law firm to handle the case, but the lawyer left and they have not done any work at all related to my case. As everyone said in the previous post, the driver's PIP should cover the bills. But now, the driver's car insurance of where I was the passenger has responded saying they won't cover me because my own insurance should cover it. And my health insurance has denied the claims (doctor visits, hospital and physical therapy) because they say it's a vehicle accident and the auto insurance is primary. My auto insurance from Indiana doesn't cover it either because I don't have medical coverage (optional in Indiana). Am I stuck having to pay for all the bills and then having to go to court to get reimbursed? [link] [comments] |
selling insurance Direct to Consumer vs using Agents Posted: 08 Feb 2019 01:10 PM PST For decades, Warren Buffett has touted that Geico has a strong "moat". As far back as the 1996 annual report he writes, "There's nothing esoteric about GEICO's success: The company's competitive strength flows directly from its position as a low-cost operator. Low costs permit low prices, and low prices attract and retain good policyholders. The final segment of a virtuous circle is drawn when policyholders recommend us to their friends. GEICO gets more than one million referrals annually and these produce more than half of our new business, an advantage that gives us enormous savings in acquisition expenses - and that makes our costs still lower ". Presumably part of Geico's low cost of operations comes from direct-to-consumer sales as opposed to using agents, who charge commissions and thereby eliminating a layer of costs. q) Is there a really significant advantage to eliminating agents? if so why don't all insurance companies copy this model? What am I missing? edit: a word [link] [comments] |
So I’m pretty sure I messed up pretty good Posted: 08 Feb 2019 12:31 PM PST So I bought a duplex a about a year and a half ago. My wife and I lived in the bottom while I worked on the upstairs and got it ready to rent. Since then we bought a single family home and moved into it. I started renting out the entire thing about 6 months ago. I didn't know it being new to this space but I was supposed to change everything over to a landlord policy. It makes complete sense. I get it, but I didn't know. Doing a little research when the policy gets switched over to the landlord policy it triggers a home inspection. Last time they did the "inspection" they just walked around outside and called it good but I'm assuming on a landlord policy things might be a little more stringent. I'm just nervous about me having it rented out already and under the wrong policy. What are some of the ramifications of this? I know the right thing to do is to come clean with my agent but on the other end if they're just going to walk around outside and call it good again I don't want to throw myself under the bus. What happens if I don’t accept a car insurance settlement offer? Posted: 08 Feb 2019 12:06 PM PST My car got hit and after I filed a claim I received a repair estimate from the insurance. Now let's say I don't negotiate my settlement but I don't accept their first offer either... can they just settle my claim if I don't give them a response within a certain amount of time? Or can they just dismiss my claim and not pay for anything because of lack of communication? [link] [comments] |
