Hit a metal object. New to insurance claim. Very anxious. Posted: 06 Feb 2019 02:39 AM PST So I was driving on a windy unfamiliar road when my vehicle went off road and hit a metal object which was like a pole. Nothing happened to the pole itself and I had damage to the driver side head light. This area was woodsy area so I did not think it was anyone's property. The object itself was just questionably there as like an artifact. I drove home and filed a claim with my insurance. I do not recall the exact location of the incident which is what I told the insurance company (Allstate). I did not file a police report because that did not cross my mind at the time of the incident. Should I file a police report even though nothing happened and I don't remember where exactly this happened? Was it a mistake to say I didn't remember where it exactly happened? Will my claim get tossed? I know what town I was in and what major highway I was by but not the exact road this happened on. I drive a 2018 Nissan Rogue sport and the estimate was roughly 5300 by the auto shop. When I was on the phone with Allstate they said I had collision coverage. I'm just filled with anxiety because I entered this situation with no knowledge of how to approach it. [link] [comments] |
Career in Claims - Best Corporate Strategy Posted: 05 Feb 2019 05:14 PM PST Hello, I will attempt to keep post short. I was making about $30K prior to working in claims. I am now making closer to $40K. I am only 6-7 months as a claim rep and will hopefully be moving to APD in 90 days. I know I will eventually progress to $50K hopefully in the next few years. I work for a large corporate company. What is best strategy to maximize my earnings in the shortest amount of time in claims? I'm not interested in sales or policy services. *My company uses pay grades. **I'm working toward a bachelors in Insurance/Risk Management and intend to fully pursue all the certifications (CPCU, AIC, etc.) as I can once my company starts paying for them (once I make one year).
I noticed at about 8 years in my company people hit about the 75K mark but they are middle managers or trainers. Is there a way to 6 figures in a decade? Anybody have a good claims corporate career strategy? [link] [comments] |
Prior property management making odd pet damage claims. Posted: 05 Feb 2019 03:41 PM PST I don't know if there is a sub for insurance specifically so I'll post here. I live in the US in WA Me and my girlfriend moved from a roach infested apartment/townhome. (Because the management was not taking care of the roaches well.)We moved into our new place a little over a month ago. I got in contact with the old property management yesterday and they are saying we owe $1029 due to pet damage to the carpet and a delay in utilities. I have renters insurance and they are covering $500 of the pet damages. I do have video of the property after the move out and there is only a single spot on the carpet where our dog threw up. He didn't urinate or poop in the house during our stay. I also have a video of our final walkthrough and the guy never mentioning the carpet. So my question is (now that I have filed the insurance claim) do I bring this to attention when the insurance adjuster calls or will that mean I have to eat the entire move out bill? What are my options other than eating a $1029 or $529 move out bill? Or is eating a $529 move out bill the best I can hope for? [link] [comments] |
Question about travel insurance. Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:33 AM PST Hello, I'm looking for a travel insurance for my SEA trip soon! I will have my Mac/iPhone they are both second handed I have no receipt or proof of purchase. I was wondering is it worth it to even have insurance for them? how I'm supposed to have proof that the items are mine in case of anything happens? [link] [comments] |
Lyft Driver hit my parked car. He was excluded from his insurance Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:09 AM PST Back in August I ordered a Lyft to drive me to work. When he pulled in, he scraped the side of my car. I live in Philadelphia and use street parking, so I just let him assume he hit a randoms car so he could just get me to work. Once I got to work, I did the big reveal that he hit my car. We exchanged insurance and contact info. In hindsight, I should have filed a police report on the spot, but I was only thinking about getting to work on time. I opened a claim through my insurance, brought my car to a collision center, paid the deductible, got the dent and scratches fixed and waited for my insurance to get my deductible back. I have State Farm. He has Farmers. Some months later, my shitty phone randomly prompted a reset. Without thinking about what was happening, I authorized it, and lost all my contact info. So I don't have his contact info or images of the accident or his license. All I have is his first/last name, his insurance policy number and his insurance claim # for the accident. Now here's the kicker. I just found this out from my insurance yesterday. His father had excluded him from his insurance from Day 1. So he was driving Lyft without insurance somehow. I'm guessing he used his dads insurance policy somehow, or maybe he canceled his right after he got setup with Lyft. Either way, he was uninsured at the time of the accident. Do I have any legal recourse I can take here? My only other idea is to give Lyft a call and see what they say. TLDR: Lyft driver hit my parked car. His dad excluded him from his insurance before the accident, so he hit me while having no insurance. [link] [comments] |
Homeowners Insurance - Property Damage Claim Posted: 05 Feb 2019 03:43 PM PST My insurance company approved a claim for property damage. They are saying to repair the item, but I don't feel comfortable with a repair. Can I refuse the repair and request the repair amount by check? If it matters, I have a policy with personal property replacement cost added as an endorsement. [link] [comments] |
Denied Health Insurance, Now What? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 05:11 PM PST Hello all! I am a 20-year-old female living in Idaho. I recently got married (June 2018). My husband got offered a new job in December and him and I decided that I should get on his new insurance through this new job rather than my dad's starting in January. My dad then made the decision to take me off of his insurance and we were all good to go. Unfortunately, his job fell through due. We started a petition with my dad's insurance (UnitedHealthcare) on January 6th to see if there was a possibility of me being able to be covered under that insurance again. That petition was recently denied. Our reasons weren't good enough. Now I'm uninsured. My husband will most likely be getting that job in June. I am a chronic pain sufferer. I don't know if I can go 4-5 months without having insurance and I'm not quite sure where we should go from here. I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions and ideas about what steps I can take. Is there a chance of me being able to find an insurance company that will accept me through private insurance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 02:49 PM PST My friend was hit by a someone who had allstate, the lady was put 100% at fault (she hit my friend while trying to go around a bus) and allstate said the car was fixable after they recieved pictures of my friends car. They first tried to underpay my friend by almost two grand to get the car fixed, then the insurance agent didn't contact them for two weeks regarding payment. 2 Months later, my friend brings her car to the shop to get it fixed and the mechanic says the car is totaled theres no way this can be fixed. My friend calls Allstate and says that the car was totaled and asked why they were told it was fixable. The agent just assumed from the pictures that it was and never actually sent someone out to check the car! My friend now has to wait another three days for someone to come and inspect the car and figure out how much money she will get towards a new car. Advice? [link] [comments] |
(MI) Bought a used car, insure it under parent’s policy? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:22 PM PST Hello! I just bought a used car, and from what I was aware, I can't change the title/register the vehicle until I have it insured. Question is: in the title I have it as my name. Will my parents be able to insure it under their policy? I live with them, and I am a driver under their policy. Thank you for the help! [link] [comments] |
My insurance company said they will "Take action" Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:47 PM PST We recently contacted my insurance company in order to inquire about home owners insurance and asked all their questions, blah, blah, blah. Just normal stuff. Now they are demanding that my fiancee take a drivers questionnaire and be added to my insurance as a non-driver. Now I have mostly just been ignoring their emails because we decided not to go with them for home owners insurance. I just received an email that my fiancee HAS to take the questionnaire or they will "take actions". This might seem like something really petty, but I don't think it is any of my insurance companies business about my fiancee as it stands now. If something happens in her car, my insurance covers stuff like that, it's in my contract. If anything happens in my car while she was driving, well, she can't drive a stick so it doesn't freaking matter. I know they have no way of proving that and are just covering their bases, but I have no want to go through hoops with them for a policy that we will drop (as we will probably use a different company) when we get married at the end of the year. Can I just ignore them taking actions, is that just a scare tactic, am I missing something here? If she was my girlfriend, would she have to be added to my policy? No... [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:31 PM PST Hi I have a question regarding agents paying any of an insured's premium (with the actual agents money, not the insureds) due to an error(and not a result of an e&o claim) or just in general. Is it illegal for an agent to do this? Where in the code for California could i find more information on this, regarding property and casualty(if its not too much trouble)? Thank you guys so much. I know this question is more suited for insurancepros but since it's a private sub, I thought maybe someone here could help me out. [link] [comments] |

Auto insurance company refusing to repair damage Posted: 05 Feb 2019 08:07 PM PST The link to the photo of the damage is below. The adjuster from the "gecko" company said that they only noticed "some dirt" on this front-left tire and that it didn't need to be replaced. The car slid in the rain during a turn (road conditions out of my control) and the tire ran into the curb very hard, so hard that a piece of the metal rim broke off. After talking trying for some time to get him to acknowledge the scraped off rubber (I also tried using other words like lacerations, cuts, missing rubber, etc.) and how terrible it looks, they repeatedly dodged the issue and would only say that there was "dirt" and to "use some armor all to clean up the dirt." Funny thing is, there are a few smalls scratches on the driver's side of car from bushes above the curb that they agreed to fix. You can see the damage on the tire MUCH easier than these small scratches. Upon arriving at the dealership multiple employees told me the tire would need to be replaced after looking at it for only a few seconds. What do you fine reddit users think I should do in this situation in order to get the big gecko to replace the tire? (remove the spaces after the "h" in this link below. I am aware photos are not allowed on this subreddit, but this is only a broken link to a photo) h ttps://i.imgur.com/2z3VMVc.jpg [link] [comments] |
Can I just take a payout from insurance here? Got sideswiped. Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:35 PM PST Long story short, someone sideswiped me, lied to their insurance about it and their insurance wont pay. My deductible is $1000, repair estimate from adjuster was $4000. They wont go after the other insurance company until they pay somebody. Can I just take the payout minus deductable? I dont have $1k to spend on the superficial damage right now and want them to pay something out so they can go after the other person's insurance. Also, i have a loan on the car and this is in illinois [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance company refusing to repair damage Posted: 05 Feb 2019 07:49 PM PST The insurance adjuster that was assigned to me would only admit that he "noticed dirt on the tire." The tire hit a curb so hard that a piece of the metal rim broke off. You can clearly see that there is a lot of rubber scraped off/missing off half of the side of the tire in the picture I linked below. During the heavy rain that has been happening in socal for the last week, my car lost control due to the slippery road conditions during a turn and slid into a curb. I'm lucky that there were no other vehicles near me when it happened. There are some scratches on the side of the car from bushes that were on the median above the curb that agreed to fix. The damage on the front left tire can be noticed from much farther away than the scratches on the driver's side of the car, so I don't understand why they don't replace the tire. *I actually do understand why they are trying not to replace the tire (adjuster trying to get himself points with superiors for better numbers by weaseling out of replacing the tire).* Multiple people at the dealership said that the tire would need to be replaced after looking at it for a few seconds. Right now the dealership, the adjuster and myself are all going back and forth about this. What do you fine reddit users think I should do in this situation to get my insurance to include the tire replacement in the claim? https://i.imgur.com/Io8O46e.jpg If you are wondering what insurance company, its the one with the gecko. Infant without health insurance (TX) Posted: 05 Feb 2019 12:01 PM PST Hello all, thank you in advance for any help this sub can offer. I am really out of my depth here. I had a baby in late November 2018 in Texas. We are on my husband's health insurance, and as I believe is fairly standard practice, he had a month to add our baby to his plan. He failed to do so (a mistake he deeply regrets) and I just found out yesterday. He is currently waiting for his HR rep to return his calls/emails. As I understand it, as far as getting the baby added to his plan we are likely SOL until the next open enrollment period, which is June. In the meantime, I need to figure out an alternative plan and am hoping this sub might have some suggestions. I am largely concerned about having at least some coverage for an unexpected illness or accident rather than trying to get her well checks covered. Can anyone offer any guidance? I'm happy to provide additional information if needed. Thank you again. Edited to add: we would not qualify for CHIP [link] [comments] |

Aspiring life agent - Principal financial or Northwestern mutual? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 07:59 AM PST Hi, I'm a 23 year old aspiring life/health agent. I take my licensing exam later this month. I already have a job lined up at principal financial. 2k a month for the first six months (w2, not a draw) as a "financial representative"+ any commissions on sales. (Works our to be around 75% first year commissions) but yesterday my father who is a respected life agent (now independent) worked at North Western Mutual for 15+ years then guardian for awhile as well. Anyways, he met with the general agent of northwestern saying he wants to work for them again and bring his 23 year old son into the business (me) so in the next week or so I will be meeting with the general agent to see what they can offer. Any life/disability agents out there with any input on which company may be best to work for? At Principal, I would be working from home (after first 6 months of training as financial representative) they have no offices in my location and is a stock company. And with northwestern, they're obviously a mutual company and I would be working in a big building in the middle of downtown surrounded by other agents, I'm pretty sure. Not sure what they could offer me but I always looked at northwestern as "that's where the big boys play" company. I would be honored to work for them. Just a little intimidated bc for the last few months I thought I'd be working for principal thinking "one day I may even work for a company like northwestern mutual" now here I am, meeting with the general agent next week. Principal seems a little more laid back, work from home but I think working downtown with other agents at one of the most respected companies sounds pretty good too. Would love to hear any feedback/recommendations if any! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Commercial Insurance Company refusing claim? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 07:13 PM PST TL;DR, My Commercial Auto Insurance investigates a minor accident, asked me questions on the incident, who was driving, details of the incident, etc, telling me the claim has been accepted, other party member has been confirmed to be at fault, then waits a month and a half, only to ignore my calls after 3 times (I had to personally call them to get an update, no email or no call from them to me), and finally someone answers telling me my claim has now been denied due to the driver operating the insured vehicle at the time wasn't listed on the policy when initially they didn't state that would be an issue and went ahead to investigate my claim/but decided to change their mind after almost 2 months of nothing, then me trying to reach out to them several times... I live in the State of CA (LA County) Work Van got in an accident at a residential/neighborhood area. (Worker has CA driver's license, was operating/driving it). The accident was an old man backing out of his drive way, drove out 20 feet from his home driveway and hit the work van while the van was moving (The area was again residential and the street was narrow with oncoming cars, my worker said he slowed his van down thus moved at a slower speed) So I get notified by my worker of the situation and it was only a 5 minute drive from where I was at the time. I arrive and basically the old man didn't look and hit the van. His rear headlight got broken off and squished in (I'd say a fender) where he hit the sliding door on the van causing some minor damage. This is where things get funny, Old man completely denies the accident was his fault, claims the van stopped and parked next to his driveway while he was backing out when that wasn't the case. Then he wanted to have our insurance companies handle it. Took pictures of the 20 feet distance, and damages of the van and his car. Sent it off to our insurance and his. (Mind you no police report was filed, nor were there witnesses) Now to preface a little bit. Vehicle is under my name/is insured under me via a Commercial vehicle Insurance Company named Infinity. I normally use Triple A but they recommended I use Infinity as my insurance for commercial. And good god how terrible the service is with Infinity. Now I might be spoiled or don't know but Triple A would have several specific agents that they would assign where I tell them what happened, provide them the pictures and info, then they would contact the other party member's insurance company and do all of the talking. Infinity made me provide them with pictures, info/statement then made me personally go/call the other insurance company, provide them with pictures and an info/statement. (Not even sure if the other insurance company made their "old man" do the same to Infinity) Which was funny, while making my statement the other insurance company kept pressing me with questions, trying to get me to say "yes" essentially trying to make it either my fault or 50/50... which later.... they ruled that in their perspective would be 50/50 whereas my insurance ruled it their fault completely. I was appalled by their decision, contacted my insurance company (Infinity) and they said they would accept the 50/50 for now then go into arbitration to get the rest. Fast forward 3 weeks, Infinity has not contacted me back/followed up with me on it. I tried calling them, they put me on a 3 hour hold with no answer, so I hang up. I called them back another day, but no answer and had to leave a voice message, WHICH they never bothered to return the call back. I called them back again and finally some joe blow employee answers, asks for my claim number, puts me on a brief hold, then tells me they're now denying my claim because my worker was not listed on the policy as a driver for the vehicle, and that I need to [bend over] to the other party member's insurance company's 50/50 proposal. They said if I filed a police report it would have been better than just the pictures and verbal statements but bottom line is, I get no coverage now. Now mind you Infinity never sent a formal letter, call or email of this denial and I had to make the effort of reaching out to them, heard it first time verbally from some random employee who answered the phone, so this whole thing felt incredibly bogus. So now I am incredibly infuriated as their service was absolute trash and after all this dancing around of don't worry, we'll go after them with arbitration; they wait until the very end to tell me they're denying my claim. (Which information that my worker was operating the vehicle from the time was already ascertained by Infinity as I reported the claim which was months ago, and they wait until now to tell me my claim will be denied due to the worker's name being "unlisted") Now here I am absolutely confused on what to do and curious if anyone had any insight on how to go about this. (First I'm definitely changing my Commercial Insurance Company from Infinity as all of Infinity's employees are based in the south and either the connection is bad or they have their dialect but it was very hard for me to articulate what they were trying to tell me, and they would give me simple answers like "yes" or "no" with no detail to go with it. I can't believe I've been paying money to this shit insurance company where all they do is sweet talk you/dance around you/make you do the work/make you call for updates just to finally tell you to "F" off. (Also anyone have any good recommendations for a good commercial auto insurance for California?) [link] [comments] |
Mass mutual or Northwestern Mutual Posted: 05 Feb 2019 07:09 PM PST Hi I am currently graduating in May looking for a sales position in financial services. I have an interview with Mass Mutual and Northwestern Mutual for essentially the same position (financial advisor aka sales) Does anyone have experience as a sales rep for either one of these companies? I am nervous about the no base salary, only commission. Am i going to do horrible my first few years? Is there any room for career growth? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 10:18 AM PST With trans health care occasionally being ridiculous, I'm looking into just paying for surgery out of my own pocket. The upfront cost is something I can manage, but I'm really concerned about unexpected costs if something were to go wrong during or post surgery. What happens if I have a blood clot or get an infection during recovery? Is there anything mandatory or standard for most insurance companies? What's the best way for me to find out? I have Premera Blue Cross and live in Washington. [link] [comments] |

Insurance company's avoiding paying my car repairs. Posted: 05 Feb 2019 06:47 PM PST My location is Illinois. Please ask any questions you may have. I was involved in an accident at the end of December that the police and one of the people at my insurance company agreed was the other person's fault. Both of us have the same insurance, which is apparently the big issue I'm having. I was able to get the medical bills for myself and my passenger taken care of by having the hospital bill them directly but I can't get them to do anything about the damage to my car. I've called my own adjuster, and the other person's adjuster but up until today I've had basically no contact with them. I work the hours that they're in the office and even on days I get off early enough to call when they're supposed to be there, I've only gotten voicemails which are not returned. Fast forward to yesterday, I figured out I can send messages online to the other guy's adjuster and I did so since the online portal to set up a vehicle inspection was completely down for me throughout this period. So I get a call today while I was at work stating that it's down because they haven't gotten the police report yet and that they still haven't decided on liability (despite me being told that they had and I wasn't at fault). It's been over a month and I've gotten nowhere and gotten conflicting information about things. I need to get a different vehicle since there were underlying issues with the vehicle before the accident, but moreso now, and this whole fiasco is significantly hindering this process. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do short of a lawyer to speed along the process? [link] [comments] |
Cyber policy - open ended question Posted: 05 Feb 2019 02:59 PM PST I've been asked to fill out short application for cyber insurance for my company. It's not long, there are some check boxes for major service providers, request for # of certain types of records we have, and a box to detail if there were any changes we made in the last year that matter for info sec. OK all good. The last question is an open ended and requests detail or information on any other things that may be material to the consideration of our application. I got a copy of the application we submitted last year and that section was left blank. I don't think that done intentionally, the person just didn't know (I know, ignorance isn't an excuse). This year, I have the application, and I know much more. So, I'm going to complete that section candidly, noting the gaps in our infosec posture without going into crazy detail. Is that the right approach? Could we have run into claim issues last year if we had a breach due to known problem that we didn't report? [link] [comments] |
Ongoing nightmare getting prescriptions through Humana Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:03 AM PST I hope this is the right sub. Please redirect me if necessary. My disabled husband has his Medicare drug plan though Humana. In addition to insurance through them, he has to use their mail pharmacy to be able to afford the meds. It was fine at first, but in 2018 everything fell apart. They suddenly started denying prescriptions with no explanation. Eventually we got someone to explain that it was not "illegal" to fill 90 day scripts on pain meds. We verified that this was NOT true, at which point Humana said "well, even if it's not illegal, we just won't do it anymore." There was no way to get an exception, even though my husband has been on the same pain meds for over a decade and will be for the rest of his life. This is made worse by the fact that Humana won't allow us to send a refill request until each script is at least 80% consumed, plus it takes them at least 2 weeks (and often a full month) to review, fill, and mail each pain med deception. As an example of what we're dealing with, his doctor sent a prescription to Humana at the end of December for 3 meds. In mid January, Humana contacted us to request more info. We supplied it immediately. On February 1st we got 1 of the 3 prescriptions. I checked the order online, and the other 2 showed they had shipped. The next day I checked again and now they showed cancelled. Humana claimed we failed to authorize payment on those 2, which is crazy because they were part of the same order as the 1st med which successfully shipped (i.e., it was all the same authorization). We got another script sent that day for the remaining 2. Within 24 hours, the website showed them as cancelled. Note that Humana never contacts us when orders are cancelled. I have to check the website and find out. I spent hours on the phone with Humana today. They refuse to give an exception on the 90 day issue. They refuse to escalate the new script for faster processing even though it was originally placed over a month ago. They refuse to expedite shipping once the script is approved. They refuse to help us pay the difference for our increased out of pocket on the interim meds we're trying to get at a local pharmacy. We've also had a nightmare time getting them to approve the interim meds at local pharmacies, but I know my post is already too long, so I'll skip that part. What can we even do to ensure my husband gets his meds on time? Everything was fine when Humana allowed 90 scripts, but now that they've banned that, the combination of the 80% policy and the 2+ weeks of processing make it so my husband is under medicated almost every single day (which can and has resulted in hospitalization). BTW, they've also removed all options to communicate via email, so anytime I want to talk to them about this I have to reserve at least 2 hours just to sit through hold, explain to the initial rep, go through several transfers, explain again to the manager, etc. Any help will be so, so appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
