Posted: 26 Feb 2019 05:45 PM PST ok, so this is a follow up to my previous post sort of but not really. when going over our insurance we really felt the price was higher than it should have been. so we called the insurance company to find out why, since as i told the agent we have very clean records. they told me that although me and my wife have great records, the other person on my insurance (a close relative who i am personally close with) has a major speeding violation and it's costing us. so the story is that he co-signed the loan for me so i could qualify (which i will never stop being grateful for) and the bank insisted that anyone on the title be on the insurance. he never drives our cars and does not even live near us. and i had forgotten about it because we had the car almost five years already, and have less than a year of payments left. if i remove him from the insurance i save a chunk of money. will the bank find out? Leasing car, in an accident and other insurance has admitted fault. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 03:07 PM PST Still making payments and won't get my car back for a month. Do I have any claim to being reimbursed for those payments? Or are they just liable for repairs, the rental and health costs? Or am I missing something else? Want to make sure I am OK at the end of the lease (ending in 3 months). [link] [comments] |
Need advice about outside insurance salesman position Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:08 AM PST I'm currently a student, I work part time (roughly 24 hours a week) but I'm starting to pay other bills that I haven't had to before and I have the possible opportunity to sell insurance outside of the office getting paid solely on commission. I just had a few questions about this opportunity. 1. Is this worth my time, I know it'll be good experience because it does relate to my major. 2. Has anyone here done something similar, or is doing anything similar to this? 3. What has your experience been like, is it tougher than it seems? I would say I have the personality for sales, I'm extroverted, personable, and customer service is a big pet peeve of mine. This position will be for a State Farm agent as well, is their a certain commission I should expect? [link] [comments] |
Will heath insurance pay for a personal assistant? Posted: 27 Feb 2019 12:05 AM PST If I were unable to carry out "instrumental activities of daily living" due to a medical disability, would heath insurance cover the cost of a personal assistant to help me carry out the aforementioned instrumental activities? I've been paying out of pocket for a personal assistant for a few years now and it just occurred to me that this could be a health care expense. [link] [comments] |
Can too many glass claims hurt me? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 01:16 PM PST So I have Allstate with full coverage on a 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring in North Carolina. Driving a bit over a week ago I caught a rock which cracked the glass. Had it replaced on Friday. I just paid the comprehensive deductable, $100, but the total was $1250 for an OEM piece of glass and camera calibrations at Safelite (so Allstate paid the $1150 difference). Today, 4 days later I catch another rock and get another small chip/crack. This one is way off to the passenger side so I scheduled a repair instead of a replacement. My worry is that it will still look bad on a new car and I'll want a replacement afterwards. Question is this: will 2 claims for this kind of thing at that rate/expense likely to have repercussions for my policy? And before anyone asks, I was like 6 car lengths back each time.... ugh. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:58 PM PST Recently a commercial building's sign fell and did $800 of damage to my vehicle. Their insurance is writing me a check for the full amount of $800. Alternatively I can pay my $500 deductible and have my insurer cover the rest. Is there any downside to just paying my $500 deductible and pocketing the $300? Is this considered fraud? Will my premium with my insurer increase? [link] [comments] |
Car accident after stopping and clearing most of the intersection? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:48 PM PST I had a stop sign, I stopped and then moved slowly thru intersection northbound and cleared most of the intersection when an eastbound car that did not have a stop sign and was not visble when I began to cross hit me. She was driving uphill. 95% my car cleared outta the intersection at time of impact, hence my damage is completely on the driver side rear bumper on sideways and hers is on the front bumper and headlight driver side. She's claiming I'm at fault but told me in person her car slipped on ice at the time of the accident. Whose at fault? [link] [comments] |
Insurance Claims Career Outlook Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:30 PM PST Hey Reddit, I've been working as an entry level auto claims adjuster for the past two months and am really enjoying it so far. I really enjoy constantly having something to do, juggling multiple tasks, and the customer service component. Anyways I'm only making 46k at the moment and am hungry for more. My Fiance and I want to buy a house in the next 5 or 6 years and have some kids so money is pretty important. What does the typical salary look like as you progress in an insurance claims career, and what are some opportunities to earn more money? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Car is financed through my gf, but I'm trying to get insurance in my name in California Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:05 PM PST We got a car this weekend and got it financed in my gf's name only because she got a great rate from her bank. When we got to the dealership, we found out that they can only list her as the owner because only her name was on the loan. Now I am having a problem with getting quotes from auto insurance companies because the registration address is different from the garage address, as we do not live together. What are my options? Can I get added to the registration without being added to the title? If I have to be added to the title, do we have to talk to the bank to do so? The only hesitation there is that I do have a bankruptcy history and that bank was one of the banks listed in my filing. I don't know if that'll affect their answer, but just throwing it out there. I currently do have one quote from a company saying they are okay with the address discrepancy, but I have read a lot saying this is usually not the case so I've saved every communication with them saying that that isn't a problem. I just want to be able to shop around more freely for better rates because I have a great history as a driver and feel like I can get better rates, but not now since a lot of companies won't entertain my situation. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 06:50 PM PST Hello all, I'm not entirely sure if this is the place that i should be posting this but i figure i would give it a try. My mother is a new business administrator at a reputable insurance brokerage (i believe is the term) and shes been using wealthserv for a few years now. unfortunately shes having trouble keeping up with the sheer number of tasks to do in a day and has been working unpaid overtime about 2 hours a day for the past few months. Ive asked her about finding a copy of the user guide for the program but she cant seem to find it, ive searched online and I cant seem to find a copy either. I'm wondering if there's any wealthserv pros out there skilled at this program enough to give me some helpful tips in either reducing the amount of tasks at the end of the day or speeding up her data entry and fact checking. From what she has told me is that it takes an awful long time to change a file (for lack of a better term) because of how many pages she has to go through to get to a specific portion of the file (sorry if this doesnt make any sense) and I would like to know if there is any keyboard shortcuts to accessing information in these files, i believe this alone would increase productivity and help her to enter data on time. Sorry again if this is not the right platform i am just worried about my mother putting in these extra hours and not getting anywhere fast.. [link] [comments] |
Will my rates go up if I report an accident? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:08 PM PST I live in California. My wife crashed her truck into a concrete barrier. The truck has no comprehensive/collision coverage since it's not worth much, so we will not be filing a claim, and there was no damage to the concrete barrier. Do I need to report this accident to the insurance company, and will it cause our rates to increase? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:08 PM PST My father has insurance in Florida, he pays around $200. he wanted to add my newly bought car and me as a driver, but as I'm 21 and have new license, the insurance goes up by $500. Can he add just vehicle without me as driver and can I drive it? [link] [comments] |
Rear-ended and questions about "total loss" determination Posted: 26 Feb 2019 03:55 PM PST I was rear-ended by someone while driving last week, and the other party was deemed at-fault. I currently have a claim open with his insurance company, Esurance. After submitting photos of my car through their app, I learned from calling them back 4 days later--after not hearing from them at all--that my claim was being transferred to an actual agent because my car was now being declared a "total loss." I call the agent and leave a message, and he calls me back the following day, explaining that they have determined the value of my car to be $5900 and the cost of damages to be around $4600 (not including potential supplements), and told me that the total loss threshold in Texas is 80%. Basically, I am wondering if there is any way I can fight this and actually repair and keep my car (without getting a salvage/rebuilt title or anything like that). After reading some online, I saw that Texas Transportation Code § 501.091 says that a total loss necessitates the damages costing the FULL fair market value of a vehicle or more--not 80%. However, I have read that insurance companies can make their own threshold, so does the state law even matter in this case? I just want to know if they're over-estimating the cost to repair my vehicle or undervaluing the vehicle itself in order to get the claim to just be a loss. Also, no one has actually looked at my car in person since the accident to appraise it/estimate the cost of damages. I don't know if that's necessary to make a determination of total loss, but I was wondering if I can push back by having a shop provide me with an estimate of the cost of repair (assuming it's below that 80% threshold). Finally, I have some photos of my car to show the damage: https://imgur.com/a/UdQMQg2. Is it obvious that it's a total loss? It still drives completely fine. I know that probably doesn't matter, but thought I'd throw it out there that the damage seems--to my rudimentary knowledge on cars--cosmetic in nature. Thanks for any help you can give me! Is Uninsured Motor Vehicle (bodily damage) INS worth it if you already have Collision (California)? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:07 PM PST The premium on my UI Motot Vehicle (bodily damage) is $86, annually. It's a 100k/300k coverage. I do have Collision coverage for this particular vehicle. Also, I have an excellent medical plan with very low out of pocket expenses. My wife's medical INS isn't as good as mine, as she has higher out of pocket expenses, but her coverage isn't bad. I don't like wasting money, but I do believe in covering your butt. While some articles online said the UI coverage is a must, others have suggested that it's wasteful if you already have collision, like I do. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Question about factors that impact your rates Posted: 26 Feb 2019 01:48 PM PST I live in California and I read recently that there was a law that passed that says that insurance companies will no longer be able to have different rates for males and females (essentially they must provide the same rate regardless of sex). I was curious about other factors that impact rates and whether there are other universal rules like this. I was thinking that if my wife and i co-owned a car, then previously would our insurance rate have been different depending on who was the primary account holder? What if we had different driving records, or if we lived in different areas? I'm not looking to how to get the best rate possible/game the system, it's more just trying to understand how rates are determined. I'm assuming that it's different for different insurance companies, but are their other standards that do not change across them? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Why are the UNINSURED MOTOR VEHICLE coverages are different on two of my cars? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 12:45 PM PST I have both Uninsured Motor Vehicle Coverage (bodily injury, etc) and Uninsured Motor Vehicle Property Damage Coverage. I have two cars. a 2001 VW Jetta with 115k miles (only worth a couple of grand, tops), and a 2015 Chevy Malibu that I'm still paying off. The Malibu is obviously worth much more than the Jetta. However the breakdown of what I owe (every 6 months) is: JETTA (older/less valuable car): UI Motor Vehicle Coverage (bodily injury): $26 UI Motor Vehicle Property Damage: $5. Malibu (newer/more valuable car): UI Motor Vehicle Coverage (bodily injury): $43 (does this rate seem steep? Many articles online suggested far lower rates) UI Motor Vehicle Property Damage: $3. I have the same coverages with regards to Liability, comprehensive, etc. on both cars, with the only difference being I do NOT have collision on the JETTA (the car isn't worth all that much and I barely drive it). Why the big difference in the bodily injury? Does this imply that we are more likely to be injured in the Malibu than the Jetta? Or is it based on the fact that we drive the Malibu more often? Second, why is the Property Damage LOWER on the Malibu, the more valuable car?? Is this because statistics show that Jettas are slightly more likely to suffer damages? [link] [comments] |
Medical treatment after car accident Posted: 26 Feb 2019 12:16 PM PST I was rear-ended yesterday coming home from the gym. The person who hit me was cited. Despite the fact that I felt fine yesterday, I woke up today with a sore back and neck. I read that I need to see a physician within 72 hours so that their insurance can't claim a "delay in treatment." I'm not looking to sue or anything. I just want my car fixed and my medical bills paid for. I'm planning to go into urgent care by the end of today. This is devastating because I am an athlete and have some races planned for over the next couple of weeks, not to mention there is one this weekend. Does anyone have any other advice regarding getting my medical bills covered? I just want to make sure I take the right steps so that I'm not liable. Thank you! Edit: I'm in VA. [link] [comments] |
[Car Insurance Advice] How an I get the most out of the insurance company? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 12:05 PM PST First time posting here, not sure what to do with this situation. The vehicle or problem isn't mine, but I'm looking for advice for them so I'll be writing as if it's mine. I haven't actually talked with the insurance agents. The vehicle: 2009 Hyundai with about 160k miles. (Need to get more info) The incident: a drunk driver (DD) hit my brother's parked car (which is under my name) in the middle of the night. Luckily, he hit someone else's truck as well and the owner was able to stop the DD before he could drive away. My brother called me obviously upset and told him to call the cops, which never arrived. The next day, he called again and got all the info from the DD in a police report. The damage: he rear-ended the car with the bed of his truck, messing up the trunk, the rear window, the driver side tail light, and the bumper/rear driver side. To better visualize the impact, picture a car and a truck (like a 2000s Chevy 1500) parked next each other. The DD backed up between both of them, hitting both vehicles. Initially, the DD wanted to pay us for the damages and leave the insurance out of it, but was offering too little for the damages. My brother called the insurance and got the process started. The insurance claimed the vehicle as a total loss. (From what I'm told) the insurance is only offering $500 whether I keep the car or not. What can I do to receive what is rightfully owed to me to repair the damages? Please, if you need anymore info, let me know and I'll add it ASAP. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to pay more upfront to lower premiums on a custom whole life (example 20 years) Posted: 26 Feb 2019 11:57 AM PST Financially I am in a good spot now and my agent is quoting me $200 a month for 2 policies. However I have a policy with someone else with $5000 cash value. I was wondering if I could use that $5000 plus come up with some money to lower those payments before I sign up. [link] [comments] |
Help needed with Medical Insurance coverage- MN Posted: 26 Feb 2019 11:45 AM PST I hope this is the right subreddit for this- please tell me if this would be better elsewhere. Also, thanks in advance for your help! TLDR at bottom since this is a lot of backstory. My boyfriend/the father of my children has been having a lot of trouble getting/keeping insurance in Ramsey County in Minnesota. He has no job and no income (stay at home dad) and is therefore on Medical Assistance (MA). From 2016-2018, he applied numerous times for BCBS with MA and kept getting denied for no discernible reason. At this point, he was not living with us. He would apply, and they kept denying him coverage. After accruing a handful of expensive hospital and doctor bills, he called then Senator Franken's office for help. They told him they would work on it and to send them his bills. He was not able to follow up with his office before he resigned. He still has $$$$ in outstanding hospital bills. He was finally accepted for MA last year, but there is a glitch somewhere in the system that keeps messing up his coverage. Certain doctor's offices look him up and it shows his insurance isn't valid, when he knows it is because he called the county to confirm insurance status before making the doctor appointment. When he calls the county, they tell him he is active and that he needs to call the State. When he calls the state, they tell him he needs to call the county. Nothing has been resolved yet, and as he has depression and anxiety, absolutely needs medical insurance. His mental afflictions are also affecting his ability to follow through with this because it's stupidly hard to find the correct phone number, talk to someone who knows what's happening and/or cares enough to help, etc. He keeps putting this off and it's hurting our home life. I work full time+ and can't make these never-ending phone calls for him. I also don't know what to do or how to fix this. TLDR: Ramsey County's Medical Assistance keeps glitching with my bf's much needed medical insurance. County tells him to call state, state tells him to call county. No one is helping get this resolved and it's been happening for a few years at this point. Is not able to be seen by doctors, and also now has medical bills up the wazoo because of this. Where the hell should we go to get this addressed? Any specific phone number/office/person that is available to him? Thank you so much for your help! [link] [comments] |
Friend borrows car, causes accident, he has collision coverage, I don't. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 11:32 AM PST I've heard that when I give permission to someone to drive my car and they get in an accident, it's my insurance that's used primarily, and theirs secondarily. At least with liability claims? My question is, would that apply to their collision coverage if I don't have any on my own policy? [link] [comments] |
what is the easiest possible five hour defensive driving class for NYC? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 03:05 PM PST me and my wife have clean driving records, but our defensive driving discount ran out. its 10% per driver, so it's no joke. the problem is we just dont have time. we both have full time jobs (i have an extra one in the evening too.) so there simply is a shortage of time. the idea of us just going to a 5 hour class on a work night is painful, but i'll do it if i have no other choice. i notice there are many online options. what does this entail? i looked at virtually every one of their websites and the course descriptions are ALL so vague and shady it's hilarious. they tell you virtually nothing and self-promote from here to oblivion. so what is it? is it five hours of video i can leave on while doing homework and bedtime with my kids and then come back and hit a shiny HERE'S YOUR CERTIFICATE! button at the end? is it interactive and i need to sit there the whole time? and which company is the most convenient one for me? i care less about price (they were all between 25-50 anyways) and more about being able to do other stuff but still pass. i know thats blunt but it's the truth. frankly as a middle aged couple with clean driving histories and having taken the course multiple times in our lives already we should be eligible to have the stupid discount permanently but w/e. all help/advice appreciated. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 11:11 AM PST a few months ago I was struck by a car as a pedestrian, went to the hospital for surgery, 6 days and 3 weeks later I was lucky enough to be almost 100 percent. the driver was at fault (revoked license plus I was on crosswalk) so all my medical costs were covered. I broke my cheekbone, zygomatic bones and nose. Very very lucky that my injuries were not bodily or permanent. I am pretty much the same as I was before the accident aside from a scar on the left side of my face (getting plastic surgery for it, not hugely disfiguring or anything) and some numbness in my cheek (nerve damage my surgeon said would take several months to fully heal) which is getting better every day. I was extremely fortunate to not suffer any long lasting injuries, but my initial injuries were severe enough that the driver's insurance company immediately offered a settlement of 100,000. My personal injury attorney notified me of the offer, which I thought was pretty good. My question is about Homeowner's insurance and how that factors into the amount I would get paid out. My mother owns our home technically, but I live with her and care for her mother. All. my mail and official documents, transcripts and everything else is linked to the address. I do spend a few days out of the week at my boyfriend's but I do not officially live there and we rent the apartment anyways. My attorney told me that if my mother has homeowner's insurance, the potential payout could be several times what the driver's insurance company initially offers me, with whatever premiums are raised being easily covered by the amount awarded to me at the end. Potentially 4-5 times more than the initial 100,000 that I would receive if I just signed the paper today. My question is do I go ahead and pursue the homeowner's insurance portion of this case? If so, what are the repercussions and aftermath? Will my parents be affected? Will the home be affected? I'm not sure how this works. I am receiving the initial settlement money regardless, but my case was VERY clear cut with no liability on my part, and my lawyer highly recommended that I use the homeowner's insurance and potentially not leave a large amount of money behind. My parent are skeptical because they have never had to deal with anything of this matter before, and don't want our personal information or our home to be compromised. They want me to go ahead and just accept the first offer, but I am hesitant and would like to take my attorney's advice. I am aware that if I do so, the attorney will receive a much larger payment (I know the 1/3 - 2/3 rule and all) but how will it affect me and my parents and their home? Literally ANY advice would be appreciated, as litigation and insurance are complete jargon to me. Thank you all in advance for any information you could supply me with. love you all!
