Advice For Starting a Small Business?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2019 02:37 AM PST

Apologies if I come off as naive or close-minded, I just recently graduated high school and have limited business knowledge/experience.

It's always been a dream of mine to open a haunted attraction, those places that open during the Halloween that people walk through and pay to get scared.

My plan as of now is to go to school in order to learn more about the business world and how to actually manage/operate a successful company, while also taking classes that are more related to the industry such as carpentry, set design, etc.

I've also begun doing some research on the fundamentals of starting up a business, but the biggest problem seems to be acquiring a large amount of money in order to successfully start up a haunted attraction. I'm estimating that it'll cost about $150,000 - $300,000 in order to set up a decent sized attraction (10,000 - 15,000 sq ft, 15-20 minutes to walkthrough, which is a pretty good size in the industry). From my knowledge it seems unlikely that banks will be willing to loan out this much money, given my lack of experience and short credit history even if I have a solid business plan.

I guess my 2 main questions are:

    1. What fields or majors would be the most helpful to study in college in order to help me achieve this goal? Is it even necessary to go to college for this type of business?

    2. What's the best way of getting startup money when opening a business? Is it possible to get such a loan from a bank, and if yes, how can I improve my chances of doing so?

Thanks guys, sorry for the long post!

Hi all! I’m a business major and I really love it but I have the insecurity of not becoming as successful as I want to be along with societal pressure of business major being useless. Can I ask y’all some questions?

I'm going to head off to college next year and I want to do healthcare/hospital administration/management to hopefully become a CEO or CFO in that area. I'm not tied down to it as I could see myself loving another aspect of business but what is your advice for college besides studying hard to get me towards seeing my success as early as I can? I know many say money isn't a measure of success but I do hope to be in 6 figure territory. After a couple years after college.

Edit: I'm stuck between tamu and utd. Utd gave me so much money and tamu gave me loans...my family can't pay rn so I'm confused and leaning toward UTD. Thoughts?

Feedback needed: Help people to kickstart their business

    Posted: 08 Feb 2019 01:51 PM PST

    Dear all,

We all have ideas every day. I had this idea coming back time to time and here I am to share it with you.

    Imagine...

    There is a website.

When you have a new business idea you will come to our website. Why? It is your essential tool which takes you through the steps of starting a business.

Fill up a quick questionnaire about your idea, goals, vision. Validate your idea with business models, google search, mentors, market testing... Giving you some challenges in order to forget your plan or make you even more believe in it.

Idea->Market research->Business Plan (Details to be confirmed at a later stage)

Once you have a draft and clear business plan it is better to understand and communicate it with the world, trusted friends, coaches (or investors, although we are not at that stage yet.)

Website would attract developers, designers, entrepreneurs, product engineers, coaches and others helping you to develop a prototype of your product. For profit or equity who knows.

After you have the business plan and a prototype you are good to go. Take it to incubators, crowdfunding, investors.

    Income:
    - fee for accessing our idea-to-business plan tool
    - fee for connecting developers, designers, coaches to entrepreneurs
    - fee for bringing new business ideas to potential investors
    - ads for example from crowdfunding websites, incubators...
    - fee from law firms, accounting firms, financial consultancies
    - and many more

What is your opinion? (It is only a draft.)
Is there anything like it exists already? Tell me.

Thanks for your time and for your two cents.

My dad and I have $100,000 and we're planning to start a cosmetics brand. However, I can't help but think it may not be the best idea to grow the money.
