Anyone else have people at their super bowl party make jokes about how “that’s you!” during the Turbo Tax commercials?

    Jumping ship too early?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 11:35 AM PST

I'm currently a 2nd year associate in the midwest (big 4) making just under 59k.

It's been a grueling 1.5 years at the firm so far... I'm mostly assigned to smaller private jobs, but acting senior on all engagements as we are extremely understaffed at the senior level.

Based on my performance and discussion with my coach, it's very likely I will be promoted to senior this year.

However, I've recently been provided an opportunity to work in FP&A at a local F500 company. They are offering 73k + 15% bonus and significantly better benefits than my current employer.

I just wanted to get some opinions before I make a decision to leave or stay. Am I shooting myself in the foot by leaving before the Senior title? Can anybody who went through a similar situation provide some insight? Thank you!

To be a nerdy fly on the wall monitoring that ROI of the Expensify video playing in the SuperBowl today

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 03:34 PM PST

Here is the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU3fit1MFKY

Expensify appear to have had massive coverage/interviews for the video. I wonder if it will result in sales.

Who writes your (New Staff Accountant) review/ evaluation at Big 4?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 07:30 PM PST

Started at Big 4 as Staff Accountant and about to be done my first engagement. It was a very small team so mostly worked with the senior only. Very quiet team. Will I be evaluated after my first client engagement?

Studying with Becker. Need clarity on time frame.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 02:47 PM PST

    Hi all,

I just started studying for FAR this week and I saw becker has 150 hours of material for this exam. My issue is that the virtual lectures are obviously apart of that time, and that 150 hours doesn't account for me stopping the video every minute to take notes. I take notes pretty thoroughly and can easily make a 30 minute lecture take over an hour because of this. Did most of you that took becker actually spend 150 hours studying, or was it more or less than that?

How do I find time to go to the dentist/doctor (serious)?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 02:18 PM PST

Hey, Im a new staff member at a firm and I just recently had to take a day off to go to see a dying family member and then again for their funeral. I haven't had a physical in over a year and a half and i have like 8 cavities that need to be drilled/my wisdom teeth need to be pulled.

My dentist is closed before i get home from work each day and my doctor/dentist are closed on weekends.

Busy season is starting soon. Do I use a vacation day before busy season to get it all done and will it hurt me in the eyes of my coworkers/partners?

    How do you do it?

    (CAN) - CFE Appeal Candidates

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 11:32 AM PST

Anyone who has applied for the review of their CFE 2018 results and heard back on the appeal result? The CPA website earlier mentioned that the outcome would be conveyed by February1, 2019. However, the date has now moved to end of February 2019.

I know a couple of folks have already got the 'No change in result' email from CPA.
