I landed an Interview with KPMG! Any advice on what I should ask and what I should review before the interview to be as prepared as possible?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 03:07 PM PST

I'm a senior accounting major graduating in May. I'm planning on moving to a city 800 miles away in May, and I've been networking in that area. KPMG contacted me for a phone interview, which went great. Then last week I got an email from them, and they are going to pay to fly me roundtrip out there in 3 weeks, putting me up in a $400 hotel (their choice, not mine! I told them I was planning on getting a cheap Airbnb and they told me they'd book me at this hotel instead), and conducting "multiple interviews" for the day I'm there. I really was NOT expecting this, but I'm incredibly excited about it. My resume looks good (3.1 GPA and 3 years with Liberty Tax and VITA as well as a nonprofit accounting internship), but I still can't believe they're willing to pay over $1,000 just to interview me. So I want to be as freaking prepared as possible, because I really want to nail this. Any advice on what I should be expecting or what I should study up on before the interview would be incredibly helpful. Thank you!!

    2/26 CPA Score Release

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:22 AM PST

Can't get shit done at work because I'm so anxious. Did some scrolling on NASBA's twitter account and saw that they announced on 2/4 that they would release scores at 7PM CST for the 2/5 target date. Thinking it could be the same case today. They've already tweeted to have your NASBA login ready, which they also did on 2/4. Good luck to all!

Edit: Typo. And they just tweeted their FAQ post, just like they did on 2/4 ~2PM EST. I'm expecting to see a 6PM tweet saying they're going to release at 7PM. Here we fucking go.

Is good writing important to a career in accounting?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:06 PM PST

I'm in a writing class and would like to do a paper on how writing best applies to my major (accounting).

Are clear and effective writing skills important to success in this field? When would you use writing in your work (e.g. email, text, conference, chat, print)? What annoys you in others' writing or presentation habits?

    Thanks :-)

I just got a digital interview for Deloitte, using Hirevue. I've used it before, but I only now read that they use some sort of analysis to see how good your personality is? Does anybody have any tips, or have any experience using it? Thanks!!

    Student Lunch With Audit Partner

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 05:54 PM PST

Hey, I am an enrolled student pursuing a MAcc.

Today a big 4 recruiter called me and asked if I would like to get lunch with an audit partner on Monday. It will be just me and him.
    Of course, I said yes.

What should I expect? Is this to filter me out? If he orders a beer, should I get one also?

I'm starting with a big4 firm this summer and I want to keep going to the gym as my everyday routine. Now that I'll be making a steady income, I'll be able to buy healthy food and gym equipment. With that say, do you guys in PA (big4 specifically )have enough time to follow a workout routine? What are some tips to stay consistent especially around busy season?

Time to move on from my entry-level position?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 08:00 PM PST

Hey folks! First time poster here.

A little background about myself: I graduated in 2013 with Bachelor's in accounting. I toyed around with food service for another two years before deciding on moving to a big city to find a job. After a six week search, I landed a job as an accounting associate with a non-profit in 2015. We have a really easy-going atmosphere and get a generous amount of vacation days. The downside is it's really hard to get a promotion - my colleague worked there as an accountant associate for 12 years before finally getting a bump. The pay is also somewhat low; I get paid $45k in a high cost of living area (Seattle). My responsibilities have increased over the years, they include: AP (registering invoices, employee expense reports), AR (internal employee collection), fixed assets, managing and reconciling various accounts, foreign currencies, and a few others.

Now I have worked there for 3.5 years, I'm beginning to think it's time to move on. Do I have enough experience to apply for a mid-level staff accountant job ($55k-$65k range)? Or should I wait it out for another year or so? I'm pretty sure there are a bunch of people that are in the same situation or have experienced this conundrum before. Any advice would be appreciated!

Just got a 69% (heh) on my first intermediate exam, how common is it to retake the course or just do shitty overall?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 12:45 PM PST

I'm also working and I'll admit I could've given it a bit more effort in studying and asking for time off but the median was 72%

    Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:33 AM PST

I've got an interview later this week for a cost accounting internship over the summer. Any tips or questions that I should expect? What are some general interview questions that I should have a prepared answer for?
