    606 (Revenue Recognition)

    842 (Leases)

    958 (Not for Profits)

PCAOB Findings (Slowing down EVERY audit, on top of all of the above)

GILTI/FDII (Globally Intangible Low Taxed Income, Foreign Derived Intangible Income)

Wayfair (How SALT people say FML)

    IRS Shutdown

    Weather-related issues closing offices/clients/state offices

Complete revision of the 1040 (Which, tbh, is no big deal but it gets the olds really cranky.)

Nobody in Tax, Audit or Advisory is exempt from the suck this year. Any *one* of the above things makes for a busier year and now we're dealing with all of them, all at once.

Leadership has that "I have no idea what I'm doing" look on their face because...they don't have any idea what they're doing. Nobody does. All of this is new.

I started when SOX/404 happened. Am I crazy or is this way worse than that was? I'm looking at the calendar and it feels like late March and we're not even mid February.

    Accountants without CPAs

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 02:55 PM PST

I have a question for all the accountants without their CPAs. Are you guys satisfied with your career and earnings? Have you ever get hampered or slowed down without the cpa? What type of job do you do and what do you earn if you don't mind sharing? I am just curious

Today my manager was talking about his days as an auditor at KPMG. The new guy asked if that was a radio station.

Playing the best adult contemporary hits of yesterday and today, you are now tuned in to KPMG... FM.

Have any of you accidentally cussed around your client?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 12:18 PM PST

Was on lunch with the client & yelled "OH SHIT" when it turned out we were from the same hometown. Everyone kinda laughed it off, but I got real embarrassed and immediately apologized afterwards. None of my superiors were around, but it made me nervous since I've only been in my role for about 6 months.

    Busy Season Blues

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:57 PM PST

Joined a mid size firm as a senior.

Never been a senior but I was an experience staff at small firm doing senior works.... or so I thought.

I've been in this new firm a month and half, plunged into busy season. Trial by fire, sure I got this.

Got placed into 3 different initial year audits as a lead senior. I TANKED a job.

I am not used to the company's workpapers, the job I tanked dealt with acquisition I never dealt with.

Finally came to term that effort by itself can't get the jobs done. Staffs look at me to delegate. I start spending more time helping them instead of doing my own work.

Low confidence, disappointed in myself, I put hours in, but feel like I am not getting much stuff done.

I am not cut out for this shit. I am letting my team down.

Maybe this is the adjusting period. Maybe I just suck.

Sorry about the rant. This will pass, but damn, I may have bit more than I can chew.

    Revenue Agent Updates

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 02:46 PM PST

For all of those still hanging on after the furlough, I wanted to share what information is currently being circulated regarding the status of hiring this year.

The first wave candidates are still looking good. The start date for those hires under the first wave will be last pay period in June. There has been no mention of the second wave in the stuff I've seen. I don't know why that is, but my best guess is it will be addressed after February.

Interviews for the first wave candidates will be scheduled and totally complete by end of February. I would anticipate offers going out within first two weeks of March but that is not set in stone.

    NEW NEW NEW

It looks like there will be an additional posting next week (prob Friday) for additional Revenue Agent Openings.

However, it appears this will be a Pathways posting which limits the candidate pool to current students and recent graduates. Usually you need to have graduated within the last two years in order to qualify. You will have to read the posting to see if you qualify. Those folks will be starting middle of August.

Of course all of this is subject to what happens with the budget on 2/15. If we for some reason shutdown again, this will all change. We are at the mercy of a very volatile leadership group in Washington, so all we can do is what we are told at this point.

As always, feel free to ask or DM any questions. I hope to offer more good news in the future!

    Should I accept this offer?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 01:22 PM PST

Hi all. I just got an offer today from a plastics company for 45k. I'm wondering if it is worth it. Here's the job description:
    https://imgur.com/a/XYlcdQV

I just graduated last December, and I'm looking for a job that will enable me to learn such that I can get a higher paying accounting job somewhere else.

    So here's my big fear:
Since I have no professional experience, I don't want to hit a glass ceiling the way people who go straight into AP/AR do. Do you guys think that this is a good starting-role that will help me grow?

Is it difficult to get BACK into public accounting after leaving?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 06:12 PM PST

I've been in public for 4 years and might try something in industry, but I'm nervous it's still too early to leave.

Has anyone had an experience where they go back to public? If so, was it difficult?

    Aspiring Accountant

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:57 PM PST

Hey y'all. I'm a 25 year old female and I plan to go back to school to get my bachelor's in accounting. I went to community college a few years ago but I got pregnant and unfortunately didn't finish. I still have credits there and have most of the gen-eds done. I want to go back and finish for my associates in accounting and eventually get my bachelor's. I work for a company that has tuition reimbursement and basically guaranteed employment when I get my degree. I also have other promising employment opportunities for when I get a degree. What I'm trying to say is, I have every reason to be focused and want to succeed. However, being that I work full time and I'm a single mom, I want to do it all online but it worries me because I have no idea what I'm really getting into. Has anyone else on here gotten their accounting degree online? How difficult was it? What advice would you give me if I go ahead and do this? Any feedback is super appreciated.
