This seems like big news. Strangely the current price is still below the reported purchase price (102/share). Any thoughts on why? Perhaps people think there is a decent chance it won't go through?

Apple now #4 in terms of market cap

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 06:53 AM PST

We now have Google, Amazon and Microsoft that have passed Apple in market cap.

Five years from now what will be the order? I will speculate it will be Google, Amazon, Apple and then Microsoft.

    I base this on Waymo.

Building a dividend based portfolio with great companies and quality balance sheets.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 10:26 AM PST

    Hi all,

In light of the recent market volatility and intense sell-offs, I want to build a stock portfolio of dividend paying, quality balance sheet stocks which produce free cash flows. I find that in times of volatility, those stocks get hit the least compared to the rest of the market. (E.g. today P&G and Philip Morris haven't declined as much as the rest of the market)

What are your stock picks that suit this criteria?

So far my picks are Boeing, Chevron, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Philip Morris International, ExxonMobil, Procter & Gamble and Microsoft.

    401k to Rollover IRA Question

    Posted: 03 Jan 2019 06:54 AM PST

    Hi,
Thanks so much for reading this post. I am a little lost when it comes to investing for retirement and don't have any role models I can turn to in real life...

6 months ago, I left a job I had been in for 10 years. I had a 401K which they matched. When I left I had to take my total 401K and place it into a rollover IRA. I didn't touch the money so as to avoid paying additional taxes on it and opened a rollover IRA account with Ally. The money's just been sitting there ever since.

I am 32 years old, trying to be a freelance writer. I have two kids and a husband who owns his own business and has never invested in a 401K or a Roth. This particular account has $40,000 in it.

I'm not sure what to do next and I want to maximize my investment. Below are the funds I had been invested in when I had the 401K-- I'm curious to know if any of these funds have run their course, or if there are others I should be investing in. I would be grateful for some guidance. I'm not planning on taking the money out early.

    International Stocks:

    • (MUTF: OPGIX)
      • Opp Glbl Oppr A

    Large Cap Stocks:

    • (RGACX)

      • Amfds Gr Fd Am R3
    • (MUTF: NYVTX)

      • Davis Ny Vntr A
    • (GRMSX)

      • Nw S P 500 Indx Svc
    • (?)

      • Vic Divrs Stk A

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions!

And then recently read about it again in Black edge (fantastic book btw). I've googled it, but I'm. It a sophisticated financial mind and was hoping someone could dumb it down for me.
