I purchased a discounted 3 years of Motley Fool.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:04 AM PST

Thought I'd be receiving helpful information not found on their site that is open to all public. They talked about tips for early stage gems like when they predicted Netflix when it was still very low. Not the case at all! I paid for marketing emails. Long drawn out click-bait marketing emails. It makes me not trust Motley Fool and want my money back. Would not recommend it.

    • Bostic said the list of potential problems includes the current partial shutdown of the U.S. government, which has left hundreds of thousands of federal employees without a paycheck.

EDIT: These stocks don't only have to be penny stocks or highly volatile stocks. These could simply be the likes of Facebook, Apple, or whatnot. Interested in seeing your comments!

[FB] Anyone remember the trader who bet $7mil on Facebook?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:25 AM PST

To hit $273.50 by Jan 2020. Which is 60% gain of $173.09 during the period when he make the call. Since the current price is $142. He need at least about 92.25% gain for his strike price of $270.

Do you think facebook can hit a 90% gain in 1 year?

I have a Custodial 529 account for my God Child and I have no clue what stocks to invest in for her.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 12:20 PM PST

Hello, I currently deposit $10/month in a Fidelity account for my God Child. For the past 2 years or so, I have done $15/month, but now have a kid of my own and had to lower it. For the first year and a half, I did not invest in anything and the balance grew to around $200 and I bought 7 shares of Bank of America (BAC) because I had read it should do good in 2018 and I felt like that it is a pretty safe investment. I don't know if that was true or not, but it is what it is.

Fast forward to today, and I have $190 bucks built back up to purchase more stocks. I have no idea what I am doing, and wanted to see what you guys thought I should do. My God Child is 3 now, and has a learning disability, so she may not actually go to college one day, but as I understand, she can do what she wants with this money but may have to pay taxes. I plan on giving her the money when she is 18 and would like for it to grow at a decent rate until I give it to her. I do not have a large enough balance to purchase mutual funds or I would do so.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it time to buy FB again?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:09 AM PST

Since their 217 high in July of 2018, Facebook has lost about 1/3 of the stock price, now at 142. Most of that loss seems to be centered around concern for how the business is being run. It's a new year, and Facebook has made major ethical changes to the company, including going back to the basics of connecting family and friends.

Keep in mind, they still owns properties like Instagram, Whats App, and Oculus.

Is time to buy FB again?
Do you see them hitting their 217 high again by Q2 of this year?

    Morning Brief - January 9th 2019

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:11 AM PST

Hi All, wanting to try and get into writing a little bit, so will be producing a daily piece on the markets. Any feedback is appreciated.

I will follow a similar guideline daily. I'll start out with a small introductory piece up here. That'll be followed by market information and then a couple of top stories from the past couple of days. Finally, I'll add a couple of interesting articles from around the net that will hopefully be of interest.

On that introductory note, the big news from last night. In the United States, President Trump took to the airwaves of all major networks in an effort to convince the nation of the need for a $5B border wall. No new information was presented during the roughly 8-minute speech that left many wondering the purpose of talk entirely. Democrats were given the chance to respond by the networks.

    Moving the Markets

Trade Talks: China and the U.S. wrapped up their ongoing trade talks after 3 days. The talks ended positively and will move into higher level discussions in a few weeks.

Thoughts on Goldman Sachs before earnings?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 04:33 AM PST

So, I am thinking about buying some call options on Goldman Sachs. My thoughts are that the year-end volatility will help its trading desk. Does anyone have any thoughts?

S&P 500 earnings as of December 1918 (inflation adjusted): 15.12

    http://www.multpl.com/s-p-500-earnings/table

    Real Earnings growth: 760%

Cumulative rate of inflation since December 1918: Around 1500%

Earnings growth not adjusted for inflation: ~13,660%

    S&P 500 price on December 1918: 7.85

    S&P 500 price on September 2018: 2,914

What's with the discrepancy? Does anyone know the average price to book ratio of S&P companies in the early 20th century?

    Opinion about PEGI stock?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 12:35 AM PST

I bought $3,000 worth of PEGI, about 30% of portfolio but I am now worried that maybe that wasn't the best investment. The only bright side is a very high dividend but I have also heard that could mean bad things for the company. Are BEP or NEP better?
