    Hi All,

I have a news database of 14million articles and I measure which tickers had spikes in news. I then read the news articles and condense interesting and relevant bits :)

If you like it, please upvote and I will continue to put these out!

    January 30th, 2019

    AAPL

AAPL reported yesterday and the market is happy. The stock is up nearly 4% today with an EPS of $4.18 beating the est. $4.17. After AAPL guided down recently, the market may have overcorrected. Apple's revenue also beat at $84.3bn vs the expected $84 bn. Sales in China were down 27% whereas in the US it was up 5%.

    BA

Boeing also beat and wrecked estimates. The EPS of $5.48 blew out of the water the consensus of $4.58. Its revenue of $28.34bn was 14% higher yoy. Boeing's shares are currently up nearly 6%.

    SBUX

Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks said that he may want to throw his hat in the ring for president.

    AMD

AMD guided a 9% increase in expected sales for 2019 vs 6% of what analysts expected. The question here is also how AMD's revenue is expected to alter given that crypto mining may not be as reliable of a source of revenue as it was in 2018. The stock is up nearly 13% right now on this news.

    HOG

Harley Davidson reported an EPS of $0.17 vs an expected $0.29. People have been watching this stock to see how American manufacturers may be affected by US-China trade relations. The stock is up about 2% right now.

Facebook crushes earning, up 7% premarket

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 02:29 PM PST

Feels good to be long. Can't cuck the zuck.

This quarter looked fantastic, just like I hoped and expected. In the end, people do not care about privacy. They don't care about data. They don't care about anything if they can get shit for free.

30.4% growth rate in revenue, massive 21% crush in expectations on average revenue per user and the largest new profit in company history.

    Long zuckerburg.

    Asian Markets Charging!

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 08:11 PM PST

Looks like the US tech rush, namely FAANG, led the streak. The Nikkei 225 appears to have experienced the most notable turnaround. US Tech Earnings projections faired better on the the market than anticipated, paired with the Feds "patient" rate position. Futures look moderately green. Here's hoping to another bullish US session tomorrow!

Hey everyone! I made an animated video of "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham. Warren Buffett claims it is, "The best book ever written on investing." Warren Buffett was a student of Graham's, and that this book has amazing insight that can still be used today when investing in the stock market, our health, knowledge, and even friends. In this short animated review of The Intelligent Investor, I cover the main topics presented in the book such as investing vs. speculating, the role of inflation, rules about fundamental investing, and margin of safety. Enjoy!

Caterpillar: Construction sales were down 4% in Asia-Pacific. Flat growth expected in China in 2019. Starbucks: China had a 2% decline in transactions & a 1% increase in sales. Nvidia: “deteriorating macroeconomic conditions, particularly in China.”

    Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:32 PM PST

Earlier in 2019 we heard Apple blame China for its negative guidance. This week we heard the same from Caterpillar and Nvidia. The chart below breaks down Caterpillar's machine sales by region. Asia Pacific led growth in 2016, but now has the lowest growth as it is only 3%. The firm expects flat construction growth in China, with positive growth in Asia-Pacific nations excluding China. In the recent quarter, North American construction growth was 17%. Construction sales were down 4% in Asia-Pacific. Tariffs cost Caterpillar $40 million in Q3. China only represents 5% to 10% of Caterpillar's sales. China is more important to the global economy as over 30% of global growth will likely come from China in 2019.

Starbucks had similar results to Caterpillar in that Asia-Pacific ex-China outperformed China. China/Asia-Pacific had 3% same store sales growth with 1% transaction growth. China alone had a 2% decline in transactions and a 1% increase in sales. Even with China's weakness, Starbucks increased its Chinese store count by 18%.

Nvidia faced issues in China as well. The firm lowered its Q4 revenue guidance from $2.7 billion to $2.2 billion. That is an 18.5% cut. Specifically, the firm stated there were "deteriorating macroeconomic conditions, particularly in China." The firm's CEO stated, "Q4 was an extraordinary, unusually turbulent, and disappointing quarter." This isn't good news for other tech firms with business in China.

Completely new. Have a few questions.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 07:30 PM PST

Let me preface this by saying my knowledge of stock marlet related business basically extends to red arrow down is bad and green arrow up is good.

Came into a pretty small amount of money recently. I am waiting on the exact total, but I should have between 3-5k with no real plan for it.

I was wondering how to even begin to grow this money. My goal is not long term as I would love to use some of the earnings to improve my lifestyle currently (Ex. New computer, new bed, etc.) I am not in anyway sure that working with my small amount that this is in anyway a feasible plan. I cannot justify spending that money directly on a computer or bed as it isn't a necessity. Most of me thinks it is too much of a risk, but hopefully I am wrong.

I am hoping someone has experienced some success attempting to play the market in this fashion. Any and all advice would be amazing! Thanks for your time!

Help/Question: Young gentleman, just bought my first stock today.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 02:18 PM PST

Hey there, sorry if this question is stupid. I thought I did enough research. I'm 20. Bought my first stock in a company today on Etrade . I bought it at $109.97 a share. It closed today at $110.13 but my dashboard shows I lost $.06? I purchased 45 shares. Just so I understand and going forward, what am I -$.06? I thought that would be a gain? Thanks for helping an extreme rookie out.

    Looking for a Mentor!

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 11:27 AM PST

I'm only 18 years old, but I want a headstart on life so I've been getting into stocks and real estate recently. Unfortunately, I don't really know where to begin and I only know the bare basics, if that. I don't really know how this works but I have a job and about to start another attempt at college (taking intro to business and a real estate class in the spring) but I have terrible spending habits and have about $60 in my bank account. My name is Lamont and I don't know if this would work, but if there's anybody who's willing to mentor and show me the ropes I'd greatly appreciate it. I also want to encourage anybody to just drop some knowledge down for me and other newcomers. Thank you

    Article Link: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/29/a-few-secret-goldman-portfolios-for-clients-are-doubling-the-return-of-the-market-so-far-this-year.html

    Summary:

Goldman Sachs apparently knows the key to beating the market, but the bank is only telling its elite club.

The bank has created 39 portfolios exclusively for its clients, and 34 of them are outperforming the market this year while three are posting an 11 percent gain, more than doubling the S&P 500's year-to-date return.

The three winning baskets are "High revenue growth," "High Sharpe ratio," and"Dual beta," according to a broad note to clients on Monday explaining the portfolios' constructions and growth outlooks.

Goldman has been handpicking stocks based on various proprietary themes and sectors for a decade, but these portfolios are only made available for its clients to trade on the Bloomberg terminal.

The bank treats the members of the baskets carefully and doesn't always disclose all the member stocks, even in its daily and weekly notes.

Along with good track records this month, the baskets also have solid long term track records.

The bank doesn't suggest buying and holding the various baskets all at the same time.

They recommend certain baskets at certain times based on the type of market environment.

Goldman warned clients at the end of last week about companies with big revenues from China, and specifically, Nvidia, days before the chipmaker released surprise disclosure on China slowdown and blew up its stock.

In the note, Goldman told clients to avoid its international sales basket and recommended its domestic sales basket instead for investors wanting to hedge against international risks.
