Significant Insider Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:51 AM PST These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New Filings This table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold. Book that presents a counter argument to a "Random Walk Down Wall Street"? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:48 PM PST So I started my stock trading adventure with Random Walk Through Wall Street. It's great but I think the author is very biased against Trading and Technical Analysis. I get his views, but I'm not one for being absolute towards one position or another and I would like to hear the other side of the story. Besides the author goes on about EFH but sometimes he goes off on his little funny rants about how people are irrational and how behavioral finance has made inroads into economics. That sounds a little contradictory to me. So, in short, does anyone know about any books that can give me the other side of the story? submitted by /u/Tarsonis181 [link] [comments] |

THIS MORNING'S STOCK NEWS MOVERS: 3M – 3M earned an adjusted $2.31 per share for the fourth quarter, 3 cents a share above estimates. Revenue beat forecasts as well, but 3M cut its full-year outlook citing the current economic environment among other factors. STOCK SYMBOL: MMM Pfizer – The drugmaker beat estimates by a penny a share, with adjusted fourth-quarter profit of 64 cents per share. STOCK SYMBOL: PFE Verizon – Verizon's fourth-quarter earnings came in 3 cents a share above estimates at an adjusted $1.12 per share, with revenue just shy of forecasts. Verizon's results were helped by a greater-than-expected number of subscriber additions. STOCK SYMBOL: VZ Harley-Davidson – The motorcycle maker earned an adjusted 17 cents a share for its latest quarter, 11 cents a share shy of estimates. Revenues also came up short on demand weakness in the U.S., which is Harley's biggest market. Revenue was slightly shy of forecasts, but Xerox also gave a 2019 earnings outlook that surpasses consensus estimates. It expects to return to profitability this year, but its forecast falls below analysts' estimates. STOCK SYMBOL: WHR Wynn Resorts – Wynn executives ignored sexual misconduct complaints against former CEO Steve Wynn, according to a newly released report from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The report was accompanied by a proposed settlement, in which Wynn agreed to pay an undetermined fine. The casino operator agreed that the report largely matches its own findings. STOCK SYMBOL: WYNN AK Steel – AK Steel beat estimates by 5 cents a share, with adjusted quarterly profit of 16 cents per share. The steelmaker's revenue was essentially in line with forecasts. Stronger sales helped offset the effect of higher expenses. SAP will take a charge of up to roughly $1 billion for the restructuring, most of it during the first quarter. STOCK SYMBOL: SAP Intel – Intel will invest about $11 billion in a new Israeli semiconductor plant, according to the country's finance minister. STOCK SYMBOL: INTC Apple – Apple said it would issue a software patch later this week to fix a bug involving its Facetime service. STOCK SYMBOL: MA STOCK SYMBOL: V BlackRock – BlackRock was upgraded to "buy" from "hold" at Jefferies, which said the asset management giant will benefit from favorable changes in investor behavior despite a volatile market backdrop. Portfolio Commentary Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:22 AM PST I would love for this community to take a look at the stocks currently in my portfolio and provide some feedback or commentary on things they notice and possible suggestions for 2019. By no means am I itching to move money around, but think that it's beneficial for a review at this point in the year. My primary goal is long-term growth as I am in my late 20's. This account is set aside for investing as I have a separate savings account and house purchased. All stocks have a relatively equal value in my portfolio. Chip Stocks May Lead A Stock Market Rebound On January 29 Posted: 29 Jan 2019 05:05 AM PST |
Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:50 AM PST This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days) Company | Count | Shares Changed | Avg.
