Anthem has not updated health insurance policy that was supposed to change on 1/1/19.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 07:09 PM PST

My health insurance has been Anthem PPO Silver 2000/50%/7350. We had to submit changes to my work by mid November for them to notify Anthem by December 1st for a policy that would take place beginning January 1st. I elected to switch to Anthem Pathway Gold HMO 1500/0%/7350. I still have not received new cards in the mail and when I log into my Anthem account online, it still is pulling up my old policy. I asked my manager about this situation. She has called Anthem and they said it is a backup on their end with updating plans and they have no estimated date for when the new policies will be implemented. The same amount is getting pulled out of my paychecks and I am supposed to be reimbursed for the 2019 differences once we do have active updated policies.

Here is where my concern is: I am worried about going to the doctor and services covered/deductible. -Will my deductible for 2019 start over once Anthem officially changes over my plan? Or will services I start now carry over into the new plans deductible? -Will Anthem have to reimburse me for anything over the new deductible? (This also goes for imaging, which will be under the 0% coinsurance on the new plan but 50% on the old one.) -If I have to go to my PCP (who will not be in network on the new plan), will Anthem come back and deny the claim to get out of payment?

I am worried about them retroactively denying anything that happens between now and when they finally update the plan/not reimbursing me the difference of costs when they are 100% at fault for my policy not changing.

I guess I am just looking for advice with this and what I should expect if I do need to go to the doctor between now and when I have my new insurance.

TLDR: Anthem was supposed to update insurance 1/1 (PPO 2000/50%/7350 —> HMO 1500/0%/7350), but they are behind with this process and have no foreseeable date when it will be done. Will my deductible start over? Will Anthem reimburse me for the pricing differences since they are at fault? Can they retroactively deny claims if I see a doctor in network now that will be out of network when the updated plan kicks in?

I (f20) was stopped at a red light when a (f55) woman texting slammed into the back of my 2013 Honda Civic going 45 mph. How much do you think the damages will add up to? Or is it possible she totaled it?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 01:46 PM PST

I was stopped at a red light outside the mall about a week before Christmas when some fifty year old woman texting rammed into the back of my 2013 Honda Civic going 45 miles an hour. She didn't ask if I was even okay she just started complaining about how two weeks ago someone rammed into the back of her and now her car has to go back to get fixed when the accident was 120% her fault. Ugh! Anyways, I just bought this car back in August so I'm obviously devastated. I took the car to a family friend in order to have him temporarily fix it so it was drivable cuz I needed to get to work. He's been in the business for 50 years so Its not like some 20 year old kid fucking with my car, I'm slightly smarter than that. Turns out the impact bar is severely bent inwards. The passenger side back fender?? I guess I would call it has crumpled a bit and a few other styrofoam pieces have fallen off along with of course a crushed bumper cover. My family friend said the frame may be slightly damaged but he isn't positive. So he took the impact bar off in order to get the bumper back into place since the bar was so distorted and now it's sitting in my basement with a few pieces of styrofoam that also broke off. In all honesty I'd rather have them total the car out than have a car with an accident reported because as I'm sure most of you know it severely effects the resale value. The more I think about it the more angry I get lol. Insurance company ( gieco) gave me a rental for the time being and I've been waiting over a week for them to send someone out to me. I called them again today and they connected me to an adjuster which went straight to voice mail. My insurance company is really screwing me. Do any of u have any idea what the estimated cost of this would be?

Tl;dr a woman texting rammed into me at a red light and I'd like to get a rough estimate of how much this will amount to.

I'm actually so devastated if you text and drive GO FUCK YOURSELF. If I wasn't there the woman would have went straight into the intersection, she literally could have killed someone.

I was having a new roof put on my small, 90-year old office building. Roofer sucked. Major ceiling damage.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 07:37 PM PST

We have a small office building, approx 2000 square feet. It's a 90 year old building with lots of character. Roof was old, so we invested in a new one.

We did our homework and this roofer has been around for decades, and has a decent reputation. But our experience was not so good.

Roofer made several mistakes. He broke a drain pipe that takes water from roof to storm sewer, which leaked water above ceiling. He didn't seal well around an HVAC unit on roof and it leaked too. He installed a new roof access hatch and it leaked as well.

On New Year's Eve we had a big rainstorm. The rain resulted in water pouring (not dripping) into the building in a few different areas.

We have hundreds of damaged ceiling tiles. (60 year old tiles glued to a plaster ceiling. Can't replace/match them.) Damage to antique plaster cornice molding. Falling tiles damaged an antique light fixture. Damage to some plaster walls. Damage to a bathroom plaster ceiling. Discoloring on walls. Damaged carpets. And a flithy tile floor from all the mess.

The roofer is accepting almost no responsibility. (He offered us 6,000. This won't even begin to fix the damage.) We already paid him. We thought roof was good at the time.

I've never in my life made a homeowners insurance claim or a commercial building insurance claim. I am not sure what to expect.

My agent says they will go after the roofer's insurance. They are sending out an adjuster on Monday.

    My questions:

    • How does the proces work? How quickly will they process and settle the claim? (Weeks? Months? A year?)

    • If the insurance company puts a value on the damage, how do I know they are giving me a good estimate? What if they offer me $30k and I accept, and then it costs me 60k to fix it? Should I be getting my own estimates?

    • I know I'll get a payment from the insurance company, but are they really on my side? Should I expect them to lowball me and offer a low amount to fix damage? (Like I said, I've never made a claim like this. I don't know what to expect.)

    • I do have some "before and after" pictures of main rooms. I don't have "before" pictures of closets, bathrooms, and other areas that aren't in the main areas. Is this a problem?

    • Roofer says all problem areas are fixed. I don't trust him. The adjuster is coming out Monday. What if I have more damage (leaks) after I accept a check from insurance? Until we get another big rain, I don't know if all of the leaks are repaired properly. All I have is the roofer's word, which doesn't mean much to me right now.

I'm not looking to come out ahead. I am just looking to recoup the costs necessary to get our office back to normal.

    Thoughts? Thank you.

Thinking of canceling my insurance policy. Need advice.

    Posted: 05 Jan 2019 12:48 AM PST

I got an insurance policy 2 years ago. I had to pay $2200 every year. Uptil now I've paid $4400 and the third payment is now due. The insurance will return my money in full in 2025 (no such returns on top)

Meanwhile I have planned to start a business and in order to register a company I need some cash. I also want to minimize liabilities for now. If I cancel my policy at this moment I will get $1600 back resulting in a loss of $2700. I can continue with the policy but now im thinking of canceling it for the above mentioned reasons.

I also have another insurance policy in my home country so there's that.

    Demand for adjusters in 2019?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 02:05 PM PST

    Hi everyone.

I worked as an insurance analyst for several years, a small stint as a construction project manager and have been selling to the storm restoration, roofing and trades types for the last 2 years.

Im at a point Im considering new career path. Ive been very interested in catatrophe adjusting. I have it planned for studying the adjuster license (TX) and taking an Xactimate course.

What else can I do to better my chances and do you think there is demand for new adjusters.

Upgrading Insurance Coverage and Need Advice

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 11:34 PM PST

I have auto and renter's insurance with State Farm. I love them, I've been with them over 20 years, and I have no plans to change carriers, but I do have a question.

It's literally been the better part of a decade since I checked my coverage and I've been avoiding it (I'm cheap) but recent disastrous crazy random shit in my high rise made it clear I should reconsider at least my renter's but probably the whole shebang.

So, what is the "usual" now for auto and renter's? I'm 52, I drive a Mitsubishi Mirage less than 10,000/yr but I do have some decent belongings so of course the renter's is on my mind right now

I also know people sue for a lot of shit so I'd love to know what the "common" limits are insurance now. I'm fairly certain I'm underinsured and since I'm not rich but make a really decent living I'd appreciate not going bankrupt if I get in a wreck.

I just don't want to go into this "meeting" blind and get talked into a bunch of crap I don't need.

I'm willing to answer any follow up questions you have. Thanks in advance for your help!

Job offer if I can get licensed. Looking to be licensed within two weeks. I've only done health insurance before this and didn't have to have a license for what I did, so this is all new to me. As far as I know there are no in person classes which is what everyone is telling me to do. I've read that the casualty part is more difficult. I just want to know where to start. It's all so overwhelming.

    First Time Health Insurance Shopping

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 01:45 PM PST

Two summers ago my father was killed by a drunk driver. His old job covered my mother and sister for another 6 months after and they both went onto medicaid after that. My mother has been living off money on hand for the past year so she hasn't had income and thus could stay on medicaid. Now my mom is running low on money and we need to start taking from my dads pensions and annuity but i'm afraid she'll lose eligibility. Same goes for my sister who finally got a full time job and moved out, im fairly sure she'll lose hers as well. They dont seem very worried so naturally i do all the worrying for them.

Both live in New Jersey. My sister is fairly healthy and only 24, my mother is 55 and takes a few different pills for anxiety and depression so i imagine she may have trouble finding affordable insurance. This is my first time really ever thinking about this stuff, i went from being under my dads to being fully covered by my employer. Any good places to start looking or tips on certain plans, i really have no idea how to start. Its all very overwhelming.

State farm vs Erie insurance open to suggestions

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 11:57 AM PST

So I recently bought a car from my parents. I just got it in my name, however my parents wanted to get the insurance out of their name as quickly as possible and worked out a deal with state farm, the insurance they use, and now I have insurance through them plus my dad is still on to save me money because he is a homeowner. I was just kind of told about this, and didn't really have a chance to look around or anything. The cost is about $850 a year payed in 2 parts throughout the year. I was looking around to see if I could find a better deal, and saw that several good options looking at first glance to be half of this. Erie was looking to be $15 a month which seems to good to be true honestly, the others I saw were big name companies for about $30-50 dollars a month still much better than the $70 a month break down of what I have now. I need advice is the deal I am on now actually good and all the others just bait and switch tactics to reel me in? Or should I make a switch? Did I mention I also need to get renters insurance? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

*Just did an online quote, and basically it is the same offer as what I have now. $71.50 a month $858 a year. So I guess this is pretty standard across the board then. The lower numbers I saw elsewhere got me excited, but I knew they were too low.

    • So just called and am having auto and renters insurance quotes ran should here something by Monday. Will post quotes from the source directly.

    Minor Car Accident, 2 Insurances?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 09:37 AM PST

The other day someone accidentally backed into the side of my wife's car (pretty minor, only some dents in a single panel, probably minor alignment issues). The drive came over and let us know, gave us her insurance and information. My wife called the driver's insurance (Geico) and started a claim. After a few days, they called us back and gave the go-ahead on getting the car fixed and getting a rental.

Now the weird part, later that evening my wife also got a call from USAA. She missed the call so they left a message, just asking about the accident and wanting to make sure everything was ok. Not sure how USAA found out about the whole thing. We don't have USAA, the at-fault driver didn't have USAA. This seems fishy but I'm not seeing anything online about a possible scam like this, can anyone possibly shed some light on what could be going on? She might have been driving a family member's car which is insured through USAA?

    Car incident and insurance [US-CA]

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 08:19 AM PST

There was a minor incident involving me rear ending another car. The damage to the other party was minor dent on the rear bumper. At the incident site I asked them if I can deal it without involving insurance and exchanged only phone numbers and name. They were ok at that time, bit later changed the mind and went ahead informed their insurance. The other party insurance tracked my insurance details somehow (some behind the scene work) and filed a claim against my insurance. The charges are minimal but my insurance wants to get a recorded statememt from me. I said I wish to deal this out of pocket. My insurance said the other party wants to go through insurance. Now I am concerned about giving the recorded statement over a call. Is there anything I should be cautious about? Is this the norm?

    Insurance cutting car rental short?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 05:31 PM PST

The accident I was in just deem it my fault. My car is total. I was told that I have around $22/day or $660 worth of rental coverage max. I rented the car 2 days ago, and my car was appraised and got my settlement valuation report today. Now they told me I have about 7 days left for full rental coverage, after that I can continue to rent the car at a reduces rate but it will be out of pocket. Can they just up and cut my rental short like that? even though my rep and other reps told me it will covered about 30 days worth of rental before? I pay for the dang policy for a reason. This is through Safeco.

Got rear ended. Their Insurance Asking for pictures of inside my car?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 11:00 AM PST

I filed a claim through the other drivers insurance. Its pretty open and shut. I sent them pictures of damage and all around my vehicle.

After receiving the pictures of the damage, now they want pictures of "dashboard, carpets, interior seats and door trim panel." This seems weird as the damage was only to my rear bumper and trunk.

Anyone have any clue to what they are interested in seeing?

    Possibly invalid Auto Policy

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 02:08 PM PST

I recently started shopping home insurance for a new home I'm purchasing. While doing so, an agent also quoted me an Auto Policy (for purposes of a multi-line discount) and was shocked at the rate I have through my current provider. (His was almost double.)

He says that the car is improperly insured because it is on my mothers auto policy as a secondary vehicle. I called my Auto Insurance provider who says that because my mothers name is on the title (in addition to mine from when she co-signed for me (vehicle is paid off)) it is perfectly valid.

The quoting agent maintains that it is incorrect because the vehicle is not kept at my mother property. Who is correct? Is the quoting agent just trying to get my business or is my existing agent misinformed about the validity of the policy?

Note: my existing agent does know that my mother and I do not share the same address.

Use HSA or pay out of pocket

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 01:41 PM PST

I have about 2k in my HSA account right now and will maximum it this year. I have the "extra money" right now to pay out of pocket for expenses. Should I be using my HSA for medical expenses or save it for a time in my life when I may not have the extra money to spend?

My thought is that I'm not really needing the extra money right now, but in the future (maybe when I have kids, I may only work part time after them) it maybe nice to have a good chunk of money in that account. Is this this right thought process or is there a better way to do this?

I am 31 years old, and will most likely hit my $2,700 deductible this year.

To claim or not to claim? (parking lot accident)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 01:34 PM PST

Does anyone know about Progressive insurance? I'm trying to figure out if my claim will majorly increase our rates, and/or put us at risk for the policy being discontinued. This would be our first, but I read that two claims within 3 years sometimes causes insurance companies to not renew.

Details: this was a minor accident involving me only. I very stupidly scraped my 4 year old Subaru against a post in a cramped parking garage. BOTH doors scraped and dented.

I'm getting a body shop quote next week, and already assuming it will be a few thousand dollars. If so, I think it IS worth filing a claim, but my husband and I are trying to weigh out all pros / cons. We are very fortunate that we could pay out of pocket, but what is the smarter choice? We're both good drivers, this is the first at-fault claim I've had to file in over 20 years (he has none on his record). We live in Washington state. We've only been with Progressive for a little over one year.

I don't want to call Progressive, I read that even making an inquiry might possibly blemish your record. Is that even true?

    Hit and Run

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 12:47 PM PST

My sister was recently the victim of a hit and run. We luckily found who hit the (parked) car. Her car was admittedly a total piece of shit before the accident, maybe worth 500-1500 it's now almost definitely going to be totaled. Is the payout going to be enough to buy a new car? This was in New Jersey if it makes any difference.

Sr-22 charge. Must pay before renew license?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 12:45 PM PST

So my license is expiring next week and need to get a new one. But before I can get the new one I have to pay a $105 sr-22 reinstatement fee? What is that and why am I getting it? I did read you get it for DUI, or crashing or etc but I've never had any of those. I'm a safe driver. I've never even been notified for a sr-22 before. This is my first time hearing of it. How do I remove this?

    Hit and Run (NY)

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 12:33 PM PST

[New York State] My fiancee's car was hit in front of our house. There's some extensive damage to the front driver's side fender and the front bumper.

I didn't observe the car being hit, but I have a pretty good idea about what happened, although I can't prove it.

We reported the incident to the local police department, and I spoke to a Detective about my suspicions. To his credit, he investigated the matter and spoke to the other party that I believe was involved.

The other party (a company) won't admit what happened, but said that they would put in a claim and "let the insurance companies fight it out."

I'm not sure where to go from here. We can either file a claim through my fiancee's insurance company as a hit and run, or submit the company's information that was given to me by the Detective. Without any proof, the company's insurance might just tell my fiancee's insurance company "too bad."

Am I right in thinking that we are better off just filing through her insurance and reporting the incident as a hit and run?

Can a Doctor's office get insurance to cover the penalties of over billing medicaid?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2019 11:54 AM PST

If a doctor's office works with many people who are on medicaid, and screws up billing the penalties can be huuuge!

Assuming this doctor does their best to make sure no bad bills go through, but maybe one typo gets through the system and Meidcaid is over billed and triggers a *fraud* warning at Medicaid. Is there an insurance policy that will cover the fines and penalties?
