Posted: 28 Jan 2019 03:05 PM PST Hi I received a competing offer that aligns more in terms of what I'm looking for. It's at IBM and the pay is doubles what EY offered. I had accepted EY a few months back in November but The EY offer is risk advisory while IBM is Technology solution specialist. I haven't decided to accept the IBM one because I fear the repercussions of reneging could effect if I ever wanted to work in EY or B4 in general. Also it could come back to my school and they could prevent me using their resources. But this opportunity at IBM is very appealing and a possibly once in a life opportunity because it's a highly regarded program. Any thoughts would be appreciated. [link] [comments]

Got the internship, what else can I do to help myself get a full-time offer? Posted: 28 Jan 2019 05:49 PM PST Hey guys! I got internship offers for a few firms in the North-East and I've been very very excited. After some consideration, I accepted with KPMG and have been really happy with my decision, since it has always been my goal to go Big 4 and I felt that all of the people I've met and continue to network with are great people. I obviously want this to become a full-time offer after my internship, so what can I do to get it? I've been attending all of the recruiting events at my school and have done a lot of further networking with a few people in my practice (the ones who come out to recruiting events at least) and feel like I made a pretty good impression with many of the others at my office visit. Other than attending these events, getting good grades, and keeping in touch with the recruiter, are there any other initiatives I can take to help me out after summer? I guess I'm asking for tips for the internship itself, networking at these events, and any other things I can do before my internship begins. Thanks all :) [link] [comments]
Is it pretty much mandatory to work public accounting your first few years? Posted: 28 Jan 2019 10:14 AM PST Getting my bachelors in accounting right now, and I'm gathering entry into public accounting out of school is common. Is there any way to avoid this and go straight to industry? Can't say I want to work 60 hour weeks, if I can avoid it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2019 07:24 PM PST So basically, for various reasons, my parents are relinquishing title of their rental properties (2 buildings) and their personal house over to me and my brother. What i would like to do is share ownership of both properties with me and my brother. Is that possible? i want everything split 50/50 with my brother so there's no drama. also, I'd like to put the property in a trust and the trust in an LLC where my brother and I are 50/50 members. The tricky thing is that the income to the rental properties will have to go to my parents while I pay the tax from the rent that comes through on the k-1. I'll have to figure out what my estimated tax will be at the end of the year and withhold that amount from my parents so i can pay the taxes. Essentially, they are gifting the title of the properties over to myself and my brother and I'll be constantly gifting them cash until they die. any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Advice for lunch with a local CPA? Posted: 28 Jan 2019 01:32 PM PST I have the opportunity to go to lunch with one of my dad's friends that is a CPA who works at one of the larger local firms. Despite graduating soon this fall in Accounting, I've just recently started to become interested to work in the industry. I'm not as interested in working for a big 4, or getting on a fast track for CPA, rather just a steady income for my family. My question is, what type of questions should I ask him knowing full well I'm behind the curve for internships, etc. to hopefully leaving a lasting impression? Since he's a friend of my dad I believe he's doing it as a service without any expectations so I'd like to do more than go meet with him and just ask questions off the top of my head. I know many of you may have never been in a similar situation (not wanting to be an accountant your entire life, that is) but any advice is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Jan 2019 04:05 PM PST Have been really bummed out lately and I am just looking for some advice. I finished college with an accounting degree. With no experience in accounting at all when I graduated (wasn't able to do internships) I had trouble finding a job as an accountant. All of the usual entry level, 3 years of experience needed kept coming up. I eventually settled for an accounts payable position in hopes to work my way up just to get experience. 3 years later I am still in accounts payable making shit money with no talks about being made into a staff accountant. When I started I was told that I would be considered for an accounting job at the company but on many occasions was shot down because we have plenty accountants (what was told to me). I made a choice recently that I want to leave my company. I think I should have left a long time ago but the comfort factor settled in and I would just keep making excuses to myself like "If I stay this long I will eventually get the position". I feel like I am going to have a tough time looking for a job as an accountant with 3 years experience of accounts payable. Any advice at all would help. Don't personally know any accountants outside of my org to get any experienced advice from so I thought I'd try the almighty reddit community. [link] [comments]

Low academics.. what are my options Posted: 28 Jan 2019 07:28 PM PST I have lower than a 3.0 GPA so public accounting is a no, no for me. What are some good career options? I have a lot of office/data-entry/admin. exp though. [link] [comments] |
