    Don’t Know What I’m Doing

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:20 PM PST

I'm a staff 2 at a Big 4 in tax. I recently realized that up until now, I've been kinda just getting by at work. I heavily rely on prior year and don't really ask what exactly why I'm doing what I'm doing and what the point is.

It kinda just dawned on me that I'm just going through the motions without really understanding the big picture. It's actually freaking me out quite a bit... I think I really screwed up and screwed myself now that I have more responsibility...

non CPA accountants do you make a good living?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:04 PM PST

    Hello,

To all the fellow non CPA accountants out there do you earn enough to make a good living? What does/did your career advancement look like? Career history (how long before you switched from first job)? Do you regret not getting your CPA? Do you work in industry or public accounting? How long did it take you to get to a position/salary you are satisfied with?

A lil bit about myself I recently graduated with a B.S. in accounting and am now 4 months into my first job in industry and frankly I am not really satisfied with how the career advancement looks at my company. I was just wondering how it compares to everyone else's I know most people will tell me a CPA adds tremendous amount of value to you as an employee but does that mean majority of people without CPAs just struggle to make a living? I find that a little hard to believe and would like some honest opinion from any non CPA accountants out there~

Right now my salary is 44k starting with a 1% annual raise (lol) and I believe to advance to the next position (Sr Acct) it's required to have 3-5 yrs of experience. What does everyone else's career path look like compared to mine?

    Thank you guys pls share!

Why do you guys think IT Audit is useless?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:19 PM PST

A lot of comments on IT Audit posts bag on it and call it either useless or boring. I remember a top comment with over 60 upvotes saying they basically do nothing and just trick ppl into signing their paychecks.

If a position were useless it wouldn't be a thing right???

Also, is it really so boring? I was under the impression accounting jobs in general were boring but this sub makes it seem like IT Audit is the most boring accounting job of all

I am having trouble being a teller even though I have an accounting degree. Will I likely have problems with other jobs?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:58 PM PST

I just graduated with an accounting degree(3.2 overall GPA). I tried to find a full time job, but I could not so I took a job as a part-time teller. I spoke to my acct. director about getting into the MSA program so that I can get the credits to get CPA certified and he told me to retake 2 classes that I got Cs in and Get As or at least Bs in them so that I can get into their masters program.

I feel like I will get fired from this job. I forgot how to make a money order so my supervisor scolded me today. Sometimes I count too slowly or make errors. I have a feeling that I will get fired. I also have anxiety issues which makes this job worse.

I am afraid that these issues with translate to other jobs? Thoughts? Any suggestions on how to get better for the future?
