An intern just emailed me telling them their t-shirt broke "after wearing it twice". I've already recinded their offer, should I also put them on the Do Not Hire list and report them to AICPA?

This should apply to our clients as well

Will my offer be revoked if I ask for a new t shirt?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 11:38 AM PST

My firm sent me a t-shirt last month, and it already has a hole in it. I've only worn it twice. Do you think they'll rescind my job offer for asking for a new shirt? Thanks in advance.

    Struggling severely in public accounting

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 05:21 PM PST

I am currently in my third week at one of the big 4 in the tax department. The first week was not bad, but I was not on any billable work. This week I have to hit 55 billable hours, and while I don't mind the working a lot of hours part of it, what I am seriously struggling with is the efficiency part of everything. I am already eating time by billing for less than the assignment actually took me in my third week... I am so overwhelmed that I have started going home and working at home and not billing anything so I can catch up to prevent my seniors/managers/partners from thinking I am dumb.

To get a project done I would literally need someone to hold my hand through everything I do right now, as I get stuck very quickly. I just want to know whether or not I am not cut out for PA. I don't want to keep asking a million questions and requiring help for literally the smallest of things.

Should I leave public accounting? Should I try to stick it out? And should I actually bill for what I am working even though I would be easily doubling or even tripling the budget that is set for the project.

Need Advice on leaving during busy season

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 07:30 PM PST

I recently got a job offer from a digital media company that is a 40% raise (65k staff 2 - 90k senior financial analyst). I would be leaving in the middle of busy season at a big 4. I've built great relationships at this firm and might have better earning potential in the future, it's in a completely different industry than what i'm currently working in.

I just need some insight into peoples thoughts on declining and re-recruiting after busy season so I dont burn bridges etc.

    Thanks.

How many people have quit in your office this season?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 02:06 PM PST

I applied for EY back in the summer. Never heard anything. Today I got a call from them asking if I was still interested and if I could begin the interview process for basically an ASAP start date.

Turning down pwc full-time offer to find a better fit for my mental health.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 01:14 PM PST

My school won't let me attend the accounting career fair, since I signed an "Ethical Job Search Contract" my junior year. After a few emails back and forth, it looks like my options are:

    1. Ask pwc to delay my start date (currently is Jan 20)
    2. Renege my offer
    3. Renege my offer, then go to the career fair
    4. Don't renege my offer, don't go to the career fair, and look for jobs on my own.

Last summer, I interned in pwc's SALT department and never worked more than 40 hours. Unfortunately, throughout the whole summer, the big4 pressure got to me and caused me to be depressed and on certain days, I was fantasying about suicide.

I am doing much better now mentally, but that whole internship experience has given me doubts that big4/public accounting is for me. I know the advantages that starting a career at a big4 firm will bring, but at this point, I need to start emphasizing the maintenance of my mental health.

Any advice in terms of finding a job elsewhere?

My career goal is to make 100k - 150k and would like to start my career where it best sets me up for a good career.

Should I be looking at industy, gov, or small public firms?

I'm pretty much ruling out top 100 public firms at this point.

Is it bad to leverage my pwc offer and try to get a starting salary that is higher than 60k?

    Risk vs Audit hours ?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 03:32 PM PST

Why are audit hours so much worse than risk? Seems like there's a big diff - is it the nature of the work / # of staff?

Starting to understand what 'Impostor Syndrome' means

    Posted: 30 Jan 2019 09:49 PM PST

I'm only an intern at a Big 4 but I honestly cannot picture myself at the level of my seniors. I overhear them talking all the time I can't keep up at all. They're always meeting with clients, always taking calls, always talking with the managers and discussing things I literally cannot even begin to comprehend and I don't think I'm dumb. I'm over here struggling to piece together a balance sheet, and this is like the easiest thing there is. Since this is a winter internship, I don't have any other interns to compare myself to, but I seriously can't ever see myself being at that level even with years of experience, and it's not because I think I'll be burnt out (which is also a realistic concern) but because I just don't think I'll be promoted because I can't grasp the bigger picture.
