Posted: 26 Dec 2018 08:22 PM PST I came across this subreddit this year and I'd just like to thank anyone who contributed. It's been great to witness everyone share their resources and learning along the way. Cheers to an even better year in 2019. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Dec 2018 04:58 PM PST I should preface this by saying that this only applies to companies have positive earnings or are at least cash flow positive. In other words, this doesn't apply to most tech and biotech. With that said: I recently had a conversation with an institutional investor about his investment process and I was struck by its simplicity. He explained that his primary focus is on EPS and whether consensus numbers are too high or low. Obviously share count is readily available so it translates to a focus on net income. The CFA candidate in me was skeptical. What about valuation? Isn't what you pay for a stock just as important as its earnings? If stock A is trading at a two turn discount to the industry, its a good buy right? It very well could be, but that relies on the assumption that all of the other stocks in said industry are correctly priced and that the market is somehow missing something about stock A. Seems logical to me. What do you guys think? Should we focus more on net income and less on multiples in security analysis? [link] [comments] |

Short Seller Citron Research turns from skeptic to a major bull on Facebook Posted: 26 Dec 2018 10:50 AM PST (Reuters) - Short-seller Citron Research on Wednesday backed Facebook Inc, saying the stock could hit $160 in 2019 as the company's revenue and user base have seen little impact from the reported data scandals and privacy issues this year. Shares of the social network rose as much as 4.4 percent to $129.57 after Citron's report. They are down 28 percent this year. "We believe investors will be rewarded by the shift of user behavior to Instagram shopping and the personalization of the commerce process," according to Citron's research note https://citronresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Citron-Research-Backing-Up-the-Sleigh-on-Facebook.pdf. Citron said Facebook has come a long way, turning the short-seller from a "one-time skeptic to a major bull". "As investors have become overly concerned about the short-term noise of privacy and propaganda, they have forgotten to look at the earnings power and potential of the most advanced advertising tool with global reach in messaging, networking, and the future of shopping," the short-seller said.
