Youtuber sent me a cease and desist order Posted: 08 Dec 2018 05:34 AM PST I Live in Ontario Canada I'm a youtuber focused on gaming another youtuber sent me a cease and desist claiming I copyrighted his work and plagiarized him. This has to do with a game called GTA V in the game there are Easter eggs like UFO's and big foot that you can find so I did a video saying how to find big foot. Apparently he did as well. He saying I did exactly what he did and I copied him I sent him a letter explain he is not the only person who is aloud to find big foot and make a video of it and that he dose not own the game and has no copyright status to it. should i be worried [link] [comments] |
My boyfriend (now ex) has been posting nudes of me on here and pretending to be me. Posted: 08 Dec 2018 05:56 AM PST Hi so I'll cut it short, a friend of mine made a joke to me about seeing my nudes on reddit, I just thought it was a weird joke at first that I didn't get but when I asked her about it she actually showed me naked pictures of myself on a subreddit. The pictures were only ever taken and sent to my boyfriend so I knew he had done it, I looked through the account and he had posted a lot of them on here and pretended to be me, even speaking to people with some weird flirting going and I seen one comment where he offered to sell the nudes (posing as me). We've since had a massive argument about it where he got all defensive and said it wasn't him but I know it was since account name is even something personal to him. We've broken up and I've reported all of the pictures but only a couple of them have been taken down and the rest left up. Do I have legal rights over them even if I sent them? what can I do to get them taken down? Is what he done illegal? I don't know how it works. I want to keep it as lowkey as possible so as not to attract more attention to them. I've made this throwaway account so people can't link anything to me. Thanks for any help. I live in the UK. Posted: 08 Dec 2018 06:42 AM PST Located in Ontario, Canada. Here's the deal. I was legally separated ( since divorced) from ex wife. Part of our unwritten agreement was that she could have my car until the divorce was finalized. Car was towed to a mechanic to where the mechanic said it was a write off. I gave the ownership papers over to her so she could give the slip to the scrap yard and I'd be able to wash my hands of it. Turns out she removed the plates and put them on an unregistered / uninsured vehicle. (This is where I obviously fucked up) She proceeded to have a second accident in this new car. Based on the Statement of Claim She rear ended (completely at fault) somebody else who is claiming the typical maladies and injuries. Concussion, psychological injuries, back problems, neck problems, etc.. In the Statement of claim it also mentions an insurance company that I was with around 2013-2014, not the company that was insuring the 1st totaled car. Nor does the claim mention a make, model, or even description of the vehicle my ex wife was driving at the time of this second accident. So I guess in theory it could somehow possibly be my old totaled car involved in this second accident but this scenario is doubtful. From what I've been told / been able to gather my insurance company knows nothing about the second accident and there was no report made with them either. I contacted the insurance company (the one from 2013-2014) the plaintiff is also suing and this is the 1st time they are aware of it too. They appear to be more confused than I am at this point. Asking to get the truth from my ex wife is impossible. She suffers from some undiagnosed mental disorder along with a life encompassing drug addiction problem. She doesn't have a fixed address, constantly changes phone numbers and is utterly untrustworthy. The story of her putting my plates on a different car is from her. Assuming what she said is true, How do I absolve myself from any responsibility in this lawsuit? Or what should be my next steps? Is it report stolen plates? Lawyers? If so, What specialty should I be looking for? The least I need to involve my ex, the better it is. It sets off a firestorm of 50-100 calls without resolving anything, another barrage of threats and texts and just reliving a ton of garbage I've been trying to rid myself of for over 3 years. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Dec 2018 05:27 AM PST This morning I found my cat eating something under the bed. When I got it out of his mouth, I realized it was a 200mg ibuprofen tablet. I stopped taking ibuprofen due to a gastric ulcer over a year ago, so it must have been some old pill that rolled under a dresser or the bed ages ago that the cat found. The cat had consumed about 3/4 of the pill. I called my vet office immediately and asked them what to do. The receptionist answered. I explained that my cat seemed fine, but that I was worried ibuprofen might be toxic to cats. The receptionist seemed a bit confused about what ibuprofen was and I had to explain to her "Advil. Ibuprofen. NSAIDs. He ate an ibuprofen." She put me on hold for about 30 seconds and came back and said "Since he seems fine, just watch him and if anything changes, bring him in." I asked what signs I should look for and she said "Anything out of his normal behavior, really." I thanked them (I trusted them like an idiot) and hung up. Since my vet advocated a watch-and-see approach, that is what I did. My cat seemed fine all day until twelve hours later when he started vomiting up copious amounts of blood. Within five minutes we got our cat to emergency where he was hospitalized. At that point we talked to multiple vets and spoke to the vets at poison control who all told us that the advice given to us by our vet was negligent and put our cat's life in jeopardy. They said at the very least we should have been told to call ASPCA poison control to get advice. I now know that ibuprofen is toxic to cats in very small amounts. And their kidneys are not able to process it out of their systems so it just sits in their bodies causing holes in their digestive systems and serious kidney damage. Had we taken the cat in immediately, it could have been made to vomit up the advil with a medication they give cats to induce vomiting. Our cat would have been fine. The prognosis for ibuprofen toxicity if the cat vomits in the first 2 hours is very good. The wait-and-see approach recommended by my vet's office allowed the drug to remain in his system and damage our cat's organs. It may cause him to die. Right now, the immediate estimate for vet bills is $3000, but that is only for the first 48 hours he is in the hospital. Our cat may require dialysis and potentially even surgery. I don't even care about the money. We are very well off. I want to make this vet's office suffer like they did my cat. I want to hire a lawyer and make them pay. I want to yank this vet's license. I have a sneaking suspicion that the receptionist did not even ask the vet and just improvised the wait-and-see approach herself, in which case, I want that woman fired. What is the best way to get justice for my animal? Is the approach different if he dies? Animals, and the people who love them, should not have to suffer because of professional incompetence. Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:06 PM PST I'm four hours away from home attending grad school. Earlier tonight my boyfriend of 15 years broke up with me, told me he's changing the locks, and he isn't going to let me in to get my stuff. He says if I make him a list he'll do the best he can to get it packed up for me and set it out. But he doesn't want to see me and doesn't want me in the house. We've lived in that house for ten years, I can't list all the stuff I have in there without seeing it. I'm also in the middle of finals for my first semester as a doctoral student, so I can't drive back until next weekend. And when I do go back I don't have anywhere for my service dog (yeah, I'm also disabled and have been really sick, so great timing) and myself to stay while I try to figure out what's going on. What legal rights do I have to compel him to allow me to at least go in and get my stuff? His name is on the mortgage, but I've paid for stuff around the house (the privacy fence, the furnace, etc.), but I'm assuming I'm just going to have to take a loss on that. Even though I'm renting for school purposes can I still consider that my residence? Would that make this an illegal eviction? My heart is racing and I'm trying very hard not to end up in the hospital tonight. Any info or advice you have is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Dec 2018 12:22 PM PST So the title explains it all but i'll go more in detail. I am an owner of a pizza restaurant. We don't have any social media but my buddy sent me a screenshot of this person on twitter tweeting about sex, farts, all gross things. His twitter username is our pizza restaurants name. His profile picture is a picture (front view) of my restaurant. WE DONT KNOW WHO HE IS? I contacted him and told him nicely if he can switch up the name and not have anything to do with our restaurant and he blocked me. I don't know what to do. I know it's driving customers away, if they follow that twitter (thinking it's us) and he won't stop tweeting really absurd things. I've contacted twitter a few times and never got any response back. What do I do?? I am located in Connecticut, USA. Edit: Spelling [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Dec 2018 08:00 AM PST I live in Australia and when I was born my birth mother gave me up to be raised by her sister and husband; who I happily consider now as 'my mum and dad'. At the time, no official adoption papers were signed nor any legal process ever undertaken. My birth mother had happily planned and agreed to hand me over to her sister once I was born, who I know now as my mum. When I was born, my birth mother simply recorded my surname as the surname of my now parents. From then on, my adopted parents raised me as their own, never giving anyone any reason to question whether I was theirs or not - simply because our surnames matched. As mentioned, this was all done over 20 years ago. So my question is - if the government or any legal officials were to find out what had happened those many years ago, are my parents likely to be charged or convicted for anything? I also have siblings who have also flown under the radar by the exact same thing about 14-16 years ago - however, instead of being her sisters child, this time it was the children of a close friends who have no family relation and had come from overseas when she was pregnant and had her baby here in Australia and had the surname recorded as my dads etc... Any advice or comments on whether my parents could potentially face legal punishment today would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
FL- Subordinate touched me inappropriately Posted: 08 Dec 2018 06:31 AM PST I have an employee who at a normal place would have been fired months ago. She lies, manipulates, and won't show up for hours or return from her lunch breaks, yells at people and says inappropriate things. My biggest problems with her is she will miss several hours of work (usually between 2-4 hours) taking long breaks or showing up late. She always has an excuse and always tells me the excuse. But it was every week and then the part that makes me most angry is she lies on her time card saying she made it up. We don't have punch clocks. It's the honor system. I've had several conversations, I've documented the conversations even having her sign them. I've run them by HR first before talking to the employee. Every time the employee talks to HR they change their opinion. My documentation is her word against mine. Or when we both signed a document listing expectations that HR reviewed ahead of time that's not acceptable as documentation because I said it wasn't discipline. (It wasn't at the time but I figured it didn't matter as long as she acknowledged we had the conversation). Anyway, I've been struggling with this for months and last night we were at a mandatory work celebration. I won't give the details of what lead up to this unless you ask because this is long already, but during the event she took a glass and opened my shirt and put it between my breasts. I immediately removed it and told her to stop it. But when no one laughed she figured no one saw I guess so she did it again. And then said we could put all the glasses there because I have big breasts. I had to say specifically not to touch breasts. I did not laugh with her. It was not sexual. It was to be funny but it was not funny. Especially with it being a corporate function. I'm angry HR had made this situation for me. She should have been gone the first time she lied on her timecard but they wouldn't. She also makes comments like "I have my hair up like a black girl" or "do you want me to talk ghetto?" HR is aware of this because I sit right next to them. They say "oh yeah she's just one of those that doesn't think before she talks." (Implying that that somehow makes it ok!) She adds such negative energy to my team. Do I have any recourse for HR putting me in this situation? TLDR: HR would not let me fire an employee for behaving inappropriately for several months, actually disciplining me instead. And now she touched my breasts twice at a work sponsored event that was mandatory. I am her boss. She did it as a joke. I'm angry I was put in this situation. What's my recourse? [link] [comments] |
[NC] Gym Staff stole my Apple Watch and Airpods from my gymbag Posted: 08 Dec 2018 11:10 AM PST Hi all, Last Thursday night while at the gym, I received an emergency text from a friend, and had to run out quickly and couldn't get my gym bag. I called back 45 minutes later and asked the gym staff to get it, which they did (they have one of their employees on camera bringing the bag behind their front desk after I called them). At around 10:15, after the gym was closed, I used FindMyIPhone and verified that my Apple Watch was still at the gym. I came back on Sunday to pick up my bag, and did, but noticed the Apple Watch and Airpods were missing. They are reviewing the footage, but at some point the bag was taken into the back room/lost and found, where they don't have any cameras. The local management I don't think will do anything, but planning to call corporate shortly.
I'm going to file a claim against my renters insurance as well, but want to see if I have any recourse since they brought the bag behind their desk, and it seems likely that the gym staff stole the Watch/Airpods (~$700).
Don't want to get anyone in trouble with the law, and just want them back, or to be compensated by the gym. Is there any legal recourse I can threaten, whether or not I actually go through with it? [link] [comments] |
Firearm ownership -Commited to mental institution Posted: 08 Dec 2018 08:12 AM PST When I was 15, I was committed, by my parents, to a mental institution. The official reason I was committed there was for "impulsive behaviour". The real reason was that my parents sent me there so they could show me who was in charge, as I was an extra rebellious teenager (Coming home late, not texting back, spending a lot, parties, etc). But on to my point. My PARENTS Committed me into a mental hospital as an inpatient, however I was still picked up and brought to the the hospital by the police. I was released from the hospital after less than 3 days because I was deemed not needed to be there - basically I was normal and the staff and psychologist there affirmed that there was no issue with me. My question is - would I be legally able to pass the background check, FOID card requirements, and CCW requirements? Location - Illinois [link] [comments] |
My sister (23) died in a car accident last night in Kansas. Posted: 08 Dec 2018 09:06 AM PST My sister was in a car accident last night. She has left behind her 3 year old son. I (25M) in Oklahoma am wanting to gain Emergency custody of my nephew. His father(28M) has been in jail for the past 6 months and I believe he is serving a 2 year sentence due to excessively breaking protection of abuse orders filed by my sister. My sister has been living with our dad (61) for the last year and a half. And has essentially been watching after my nephew while my sister was going to full time school. What steps can I or should I take to gain custody of my nephew. Thanks in advance. If there are any questions I can answer please ask away. I'm worried about what will happen to my nephew. Posted: 08 Dec 2018 07:41 AM PST Posted this on r/genealogy and they suggested I come here: My grandfather was a philanderer and regards sperm donor for most of the second half of the 20th century. The other night it struck me-- maybe we could have him take a DNA test to see if we have any surprise relatives out there! I thought: COOL! New aunts and uncles!! New cousins! But my aunt said that it might be a nightmare in case any of his illegitimate children/ sperm donation children suddenly decide to contest his will or disturb our family dynamic as it stands now. Has anyone heard of people having bad experiences finding new relatives? Is there in fact a legal risk of my grandfather's will if it turns out he has several children he doesn't know about? Are any of us safe to take those DNA test kits? Also, my grandfather was living in NJ/NY/MA at the time of his donations, and he had affairs all over the country and world (lol what the heck Papa). Edit: by "sperm donor and philanderer" I mean he was a clinical sperm donor and also he was doin the nookie all over town Edit ii: My grandfather is still alive-- woohoo! (which is why we were thinking about giving him a DNA test kit) [link] [comments] |
PA Someone stole my tablet that I can still remote into and can use the camera/mic on it Posted: 08 Dec 2018 11:51 AM PST So, long and the short of it is my toss-away tablet that I keep in the car as a music player was stolen recently ((don't worry, no personally identifiable information is on it, I am quite paranoid about this)) and I can remote into it now and eavesdrop on the discussions they are having, and any pictures they take are synced to my desktop. What if any legal things should I be aware of in this situation? I mean personally I'm not that heartbroken about it as it was all of a 50 dollar tablet who had two jobs, one of which was to play music and the other was to take pictures/video if needed so it could be backed up to my desktop ((BTW I am an advocate of dashcams and taking pictures of any accident, and accident scene you are involved in, it will save you so much drama later)) [link] [comments] |

Need some legal advise on Mesothelioma Posted: 08 Dec 2018 01:49 PM PST Hi all, I am from Michigan, and had some questions about mesothelioma. So my 80 year old grandpa was admitted into the hospital 8 days ago for having fluid in his lungs and difficulty breathing. After testing the liquid and doing some scans, both CAT and PET, the doctors concluded that they are 99% sure he has Mesothelioma in his right lung (this is all pre-biopsy, so they don't know exactly what it is.) Anyways, apparently the doctors told my grandpa to seek out a lawyer due to the mesothelioma. My grandpa said is was very odd to hear a doctor tell him to get legal advice. Now for some background, my grandpa was a Firefighter for the city for 35 years, starting back in the 60s. I know I've seen those infomercials about "if you or a loved one are diagnosed with mesothelioma, call this number" , but I have no clue what they mean. I would like to fill my grandparents in on what they could possibly due, regarding why they should get a lawyer. Any information is greatly appreciated! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Payroll company forgot to charge me handling fee for 3 years [California] Posted: 07 Dec 2018 06:58 PM PST My company uses a payroll service to pay our employees. recently it was discovered that due to an accounting error on their part, we have never been charged the 2% handling fee which covers the cost of their service. All employees were paid properly, including all necessary taxes paid on our behalf, they just simply forgot to pay themselves. They are now asking that we retroactively pay they handling fees that they've forgotten to collect for the past three years. Their invoices never had handling fees listed on them, we've always paid exactly the amount that they've requested of us. However our contract with them does state that we would be liable to pay the handling fee, there is just no indication of when that would be due or any kind of statute of limitations. Are they within their right to ask for this now? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Dec 2018 05:59 PM PST The issue has now been resolved. I was contacted by someone from Google who raised the issue with the Search team and they corrected the error. Thanks for all those who offered to help and provided advice, much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
I am being paid under minimum wage and in cash at my job. Posted: 08 Dec 2018 07:15 AM PST I am a high schooler in Ontario working a part time job(under 28 hours) in a food court in a mall. My employer is a franchisee who has been paying me in cash. Current minimum wage is $14 dollars per hour but I am paid $12 per hour in cash. I am concerned that no taxes are paid on this and could legally affect me later in life. He says that this is because I do not have food handler certification, even though I was never told I needed this in the interview. I am unsure what to do. I am not sure if I am missing any details I should include, but I will add them in edits if I think of them. Edit: with the previous owners, I received paycheques and 14 dollars minimum wage Edit: in the interview they offered $14 dollars an hour but I don't have any physical proof of this Edit: looking online, it says that not everyone needs a food handler certification, only one person working at any one time. I am not 100% sure if this is correct though. [link] [comments] |
Eviction in progress, home owner shut off electricity. (South Carolina) Posted: 08 Dec 2018 09:50 AM PST This a long story, sorry. I was renting a house for 1 year and verbally told I could rent to own if I wanted after the year. (*Yes I was very naive.) Anyway, home owner decided she wants to move back in. She gave us 2 months notice, but we couldn't find a place in time. We have bad credit, 2 kids at home and 2 medium size dogs. We let property manager know multiple times and asked for at least one more month, but home owner said no. We have no family here, and we finally found a place, but can't get out until Dec 30. So, eviction process is begun, which we expected, but then home owner turned off the water, it was in our name. We got it turned back on, but on Friday she had electricity turned off, also had been in our name. I should also add we paid Dec rent too. What can we do? I'm pretty sure it's illegal for her to do this. [link] [comments] |
Eyes heavily effected after Lasik surgery - what are my options moving forward? Posted: 08 Dec 2018 01:21 AM PST Hello everyone. I live in Illinois, United States (thank you, LocationBot.) A few months ago (early August) I underwent Lasik eye surgery. I knew several people in person who had had the surgery performed and they all reported spectacular results. I've wanted to get corrective eye surgery for a number of years now, and did a good amount of research on the subject beforehand, so it was not an impulse decision at all, especially considering the price of the surgery. However, I obviously wouldn't be writing this if all had gone well, so let's get into it. About three days after the surgery, I lost vision in my left eye. I had intense pain in the eye, extreme light sensitivity, and extreme blurriness - I couldn't even read the clock on my phone screen when it was right next to my face. For all intents and purposes, the eye was useless. Two days later, the exact same thing happened to my other eye, and I was fully blind for two days. During this period, I was in constant contract with the center that performed by surgery. They were as helpful as I believe was possible. They got me in, diagnosed my eye problems (which ended up being a case where my eye cells were "sloughing off" of my eyes rapidly - hence the intense pain and loss of vision) and provided drops and medicine to help the healing process, saying that problems to my degree were very uncommon, but not unheard of. Eventually, the right eye healed as well. The thing is, the problem has persisted intermittently. I've had to go back with further eye problems 5-6 times now in the five months since the surgery, and I've called in with problems more times than that (on those occasions I was instructed to resume using leftover medication from previous problems.) And as I'm writing this, my right eye is nearly visionless again and my left eye is going downhill and is very light sensitive - I'm writing this with all of my brightness settings at minimum, and doing it in very short sessions. Often there is intense eye pain associated with the vision loss, but not this time, fortunately. I've followed the doctors instructions to the letter every single time since the beginning, and have taken all of the medication and eye drops on schedule (and spent a LOT of extra money on the medicated drops, as well as the normal eye drops I now must use every day to keep them lubricated.) The doctors have been sympathetic of my plight, and have helped as much as I believe they possibly can, but no one seems to have a long term prognosis for my eye problems. When I had the surgery done, I had to sign all of those consent forms and contracts, acknowledging that it's entirely possible that I could lose an eye and essentially waiving the risk. I was aware of the risks going in, I accept that. However, I'm not sure what to do about it now. Having bad eye problems every 2-3 weeks for 2-3 days at a time has really screwed up my life. I no longer have the management job that I had before the surgery (which was a planned leave, I was moving to another city,) but it heavily interfered with my work there often when it happened. Since I left, the only work I've been able to do are contract audio books (narration and engineering,) but even that I often have to take time away from simply because I can't see the computer screen for days at a time. I'm scheduled to start a new job in the next 2-4 weeks, but my eye problems have shown no real signs of going away, or decreasing in frequency or intensity (in fact, the vision loss episode I had about two weeks ago was the most painful one I've ever had - including the one right after surgery.) It's unlikely that I'll be employed for very long after the first couple of times I have to "call in blind," but I have to try. I'm frankly not sure how to proceed with my life at this point. Should I attempt legal action despite the consent forms? Should I file for disability? Is there another option? I can function normally probably 80-85% of the time, but the other 20% I'm nearly useless, and it makes sustaining life difficult. I had a sizable savings before and shortly after the surgery to recover on, and I've been living reasonably frugally, but I hadn't planned to have to rely on it for nearly this long and it can't continue for much longer. I could lose my house. If these problems persist, and they show no signs of not persisting, I'm going to be in trouble very shortly. Edit: Thank you all very much for the responses. I plan to make appointments to consult with an unaffiliated eye doctor for a second opinion and a disability lawyer on Monday morning. If the eye doctor finds that it may have been the other surgeon's fault (which I don't think that it was,) I will consult with a malpractice lawyer afterwards, but I'd like to have that visit first as I'm sure it will be required regardless. More advice and suggestions are welcome, of course. Will update again shortly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Dec 2018 11:07 AM PST My parents live in CA in a house they bought in June. Everyday for the last few weeks my their neighbor(late 50s, male, lives with elderly mother) is on his roof looking around and into my parents windows and backyard. Recently my mother has noticed that he looks towards the nearby elementary school with binoculars when kids are arriving for school. This is mostly from her point of view, fyi. 12/6/2018- I went to Police dept. to ask and discuss what were my options as a homeowner when my neighbor gets on his roof regularly and looks in my backyard and windows and into the nearby school. Both our homes back up to elementary school and next to our fence is the kindergarten classrooms and playground. I have caught him with his arms crossed staring into my yard ,windows and into playground. I asked the police what to do. They told me to make a phone call to them when it happens. They said that it would stay anonymous. 12/7/2018- I opened my living room blind to see my neighbor up on his roof looking at me. I closed the blind and went to other window, He was looking down into the kindergarten play area . All the parents were dropping off their children for school. It was 7:35am. He then pulled out his binoculars and started looking around at everything, our yard, the students in playground, and the view on the other side of his house. I immediately called the admin office of the school. I asked to stay anonymous and told the woman that they should probably send someone to check on this guy on his roof looking into your school yard. I do not believe I said I was a neighbor(important later). She then went to play yard and questioned him. I only got bits and pieces of what was said. She said something and I heard him say "no I'm good, alright". She said something and he replied "it's none of your business". I then heard her say "I'm going to call the police". He said "go ahead". Police came about 30-45 minutes later. It was the same officer I had spoken with yesterday at the precinct. Two officers came for this call. They spoke for 20-30 minutes with his mother present. I saw him point to our home while talking to officers. About 30 minutes later the officer came to our door. I then was pretty upset because I wanted to stay anonymous. I told him that too. He said our neighbor said we must have called and that he was up on roof because his mother heard something on the roof and he was checking it out . The officer also said that the neighbor went to the school and apologized to the school admin woman that he spoke rudely to. While the officer confirmed that, yes, it is weird and unsettling behavior, they can not do anything as the neighbor has not broken any laws. Why don't they just close the blinds, you ask? Well A, they shouldn't have to. and B, they bought this house because of the coastal view. Are there any legal actions they can take? To be clear they are not scared of this guy, but its pretty unsettling to not have any privacy in your own home. Edit: they have the blinds that can be pulled down from the top on their windows so that they can still let light in but keep prying eyes out. Conveniently if used as such they can only be looked through if you are looking down from above. [link] [comments] |
