(Florida) Pet Sitter Is Lying To Me About What happened To My Animals While I Was In MA (Warning Neglect)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:45 AM PST

I am a breeder and show exhibitor of show rabbits, I had 15 rabbits and I own 3 cats. I live in Florida and so does the woman that was paid to take care of my animals while I was on vacation in Massachusetts; I was gone for 17 days. December 12, 2018 until December 28, 2018. Here goes.

On 12\12\2018, I wrote the sitter an email with detailed animal care (email is sent and I saved it), she confirmed she got it and was going to start her care for the animals on 12\14\2018.

From 12\14\2018 until 12\26\2018, I was told all animals were good and my cats were really starting to grow on her.

When I flew back into Florida on 12\28\2018, I saw a very different story.

My cats had dry food molding in their dishes, canned food in their dishes growing black mold, litter boxes had not been cleaned in days, urine all over the boxes and in front of it. Cat vomit under and on my bed and desk, also growing mold or was moldy food from the cats' eating the moldy food as their only option. They had about 1 inch of filthy water in their bowls, this water was full of cat and human hair, litter, dirt, etc. Damage in broken cages, water bottles, feeders, feed, hay, and for the missing 12 show rabbits is $4,258 dollars.

12 of the rabbits are gone, there is literally no trace of fur, blood, bodies, etc if an animal got them (rabbits are outside in my yard under a specialty lean to I built for them). The 3 remaining rabbits were standing in roughly 6 inches of their urine and shit. They had no water in their water bottles, their pellets in their feeders were growing green mold, and had freaking cat food in their feeders mixed with the pellets!

She will not answer my calls or texts as to where my 12 missing\dead rabbits are.

I am filing a police report for this but my county sheriff's office is closed for New Years. I was also at my county's animal control in search of the 12 missing rabbits -- which they didn't have --- but they told me that they were on my property twice! They claim they saw her on the 17th to issue a warning for the rabbits not having water and clean feed\to move them out of their waste, (she ignored this warning), animal control was back the 26th and issued a citation for their neglect. My 3 cats are indoors and animal control was unaware of them.

Animal control claims there was only ever 3 rabbits on my property? Where are my 12 other rabbits?!

I was unaware of animal control until the 28th when I returned to Florida and filed complaints for 12 missing\stolen rabbits and severe animal neglect. They did not call me during this at all.

How do I find my rabbits? Will the police be able to get a warrant to search her property? I am absolutely heartbroken and have cried all day and night.

    *** TLDR ***

Paid sitter neglected\lost\possibly stolen 12 high dollar show rabbits, left 3 on property neglected, neglected my 3 senior cats, damaged done to rabbitry equipment and supplies. $4,258 dollars in damaged\stolen\neglected animals. What can I do?

If mods need proof (photos, email, etc) I have it. Thank you!

My friends and I suspect that a local restaurant intentionally poisoned us

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:35 AM PST

    Tempe, Arizona

My 4 friends and I, all 18/17yo males, work together at a pizza joint. Last night the 4 of them closed the store while I got off a few hours before.

10 minutes to close, someone walks in trying to order about 10 pizzas. Friend A was the manager on shift and told him we could not make an order that large this close to closing, as by the time it was ready, it would be 20 minutes past close. The guy was understandably pissed off, and filed a complaint to corporate.

A couple hours later we all got together to go grab some chicken at a nearby restaurant. Well, as soon as we got there, we realized that one of the employees was the guy who they denied service to, likely the manager. We were getting multiple dirty looks from him along with the rest of the staff. Against our better judgement we got seated and ordered. We addressed the elephant in the room and apologized for denying the pizzas, which turned out to be for the entire staff, explained the situation once again on why we couldn't, and offered to pay for their pizzas out of our own pocket next time they came in before leaving a huge tip because we genuinely felt bad. After we left, another complaint was submitted saying that we showed up to his work as some form of "retaliation" and that we were "harassing" his staff. We had no idea this guy even worked here until we showed up.

Fast forward to this morning. I was feeling awful, on the toilet for 2.5 hours. Friend A, who had chicken, had to leave work an hour into his shift and is still consistently vomiting. Same applies for Friend B, who only had a water. Friend C also only had a water and was feeling a bit ill. Friend D had nothing to eat or drink and was feeling fine. Considering 2 of us only had water and were still sick, our best guess is that the staff, who obviously was not happy with us, contaminated our waters by dipping raw chicken in them, making us all sick.

Friend D did order chicken, but never ate it, so he has a box of chicken that can possibly be tested to see if something was done to it? We are all planning on getting blood tests to prove whether we were given food poisoning/salmonella. I'm just wondering if anyone could give me advice on what we should do, or if there is anything we even can do.

EDIT: Friend B just informed me that his symptoms were intense stomach cramping, nausea, shivers, sweating, kidneys ached, body temperature of 101, loss of appetite, and hard breathing(he used an inhaler, didn't help)

(Ohio) Cop blocking my driveway and harassing me and my wife.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:38 PM PST

EDIT As of 3:40PM EST I have called about filing a complaint with the police officer in question. I have yet to get a call back. I'll update everyone here when I get a call back (if I do.)

    Hello Legal Advice!

    So, here's some backstory:

Me and my fiancé moved into this new place back in April. We've been living here since then. The town I live in is incredibly small and only has around 150-200 people, maybe more. The cops around here are notorious for pulling people over. There is a major highway that runs between here and Cincinnati. They are most always out on that road because the city jurisdiction extends across that highway, they almost are never monitoring what's happening in town.

Fast forward until now. There was a cop sitting at the 4 way in the middle of town that my fiancé had passed (she works with horses and drives a truck that's kinda loud). She was pulled over (in our driveway) for this exhaust issue. She took the loud exhaust ticket, paid it, we put a new exhaust that helped quiet down the truck, all is good. Right? Nah.

Now, this guy knows where we live. He drives by all the time and he knows when my fiancé leaves for work. He follows me now, in my 2010 Honda Civic (it's a completely legal car, no real reason for him to be following me) all the time as I do the speed limit, pay my taxes and abide by the law. There is an abandoned house across the road where he will sit at and "clock" people, however, it's right across from our home.

Today was the last straw. When my fiancé was leaving for work, we was headed in from town from picking up our cat from the vet. He is sitting at the 4-way stop sign in town. He sees us and makes eye contact with us and then as I'm almost home begins pulling out. My fiancé needed to go to work, so I decided to let her use my car so that way there was no risk of her being pulled over in her truck (even though we fixed the exhaust like he asked).

On her way out, he sees her leaving and pulls up and blocks the driveway, not allowing my fiancé to leave. He sits there for about a minute and then drives down the road a bit, waiting for her to pull out so he can stop her. She calls me and says she's afraid to leave, so I tell her to stay for a bit. He eventually pulled off and pulled over another loud truck.

Here's the kicker. My ring doorbell has the entire occurrence of him blocking our driveway on camera. I've saved a copy to my phones storage. What can we do about this? This is clearly harassment and this guy doesn't let up. It's a shame when I'm fearful to leave the privacy of my home because this guys following us around in an unusual way. Is there any way I can make a city complaint against him to get him to stop? I only fear this will make things a lot worse. Cops are meant to protect and serve, not harass and observe.

Feeling lost here, could anyone give me some useful advice?

Thanks, sorry for the long post.

I own a printing company, doctor client wants custom prescription pads printed - Is printing them even legal? [IN, KY]

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 11:51 AM PST

Not sure how it works, is there some way I can verify they're in fact a doctor, not just some junkie calling? I'm guessing doctors have some sort of license or doctor ID they can show us? Of course they need them by next week because they "forgot to get them since they're opening."

Is there anything we need to check or verify & how would we go about this? Just make sure they're in fact a real doctor and are opening a new office like they said?

She didn't sound sketchy but I'm also not sure if we can just go around printing prescription pads all willy-nilly. Figured I'd check here first. Thanks

[CA] Roommate lied about the rent

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 02:22 AM PST

I share a 2bd 2bath apartment $1200 a month with a roommate who leased the place. We agreed to split the rent exactly even and he'll pay the monthly utility bills, which meant the total rent for the apartment would be $2400 a month. I signed a roommate contract to the landlord and the apartment upon moving in. The house was littered with his stuff everywhere, and I only kept everything in my room.

Few months later, he said I'm using too much electricity and that I should help him by giving him $20 more every month. I wasn't happy to take the blame but I just agreed as I didn't want to have any disputes.

8 months later to now, he says he is moving out and that his friend wants to take over. I spoke with the landlord if I can rent and he told me the total rent is actually $1800 a month and the utility bill is bi-monthly, not $2400 with separate monthly utility bill that he spoke of.

I confronted the roommate regarding it and he is still lying to play it off. The landlord is willing to cooperate on my side. What can I do about this?

Some of you misunderstood so tl;dr - Original total rent from the landlord is $1800, which two of us agreed to split even and the roommate pays for all utility bills, which means I pay $900 a month total. - Roommate lied that the total rent is $2400, and he wrote $1200 a month on contract, so I paid $1200 every month for 8 months. - Roommate accused me of using too much electricity, and demanded I pay $20 for monthly utility bills. But landlord revealed it is bi-monthly. I wasn't supposed to pay for utility to begin with. - The roommate wants to move out and does not admit he lied.

Is there anyway of getting your trust fund back if your parents donated all 100,000$ of it to a church because the child came out to them?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 05:57 PM PST

Not me but my friend recently told me that his parents had sent him a thank you letter from the church for his contribution of 100,000$ to them and that it would be going towards building a basketball court. I'm just wondering if there is any way to reappropriate it under his name only or anything?

I'm just furious at hearing that instead of loving their kid and giving him a future that they decide to throw away him and any educational support in the most horrendous way I can think.

Btw they called him on Christmas to tell him that he should move back so he can go to the churches "straight away" program (it tries to turn them straight with biblical propaganda and threats of hell etc.)

    Edit: living in Canada

I am 28 years old, and I have a trust fund with a half a million dollars in it, but my parents are keeping it from me "based on their discretion".

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:32 PM PST

Additional information: This money was awarded to me via lawsuit settlement (the situation being one that caused me both bodily harm and emotional trauma). • I was the only person involved (other than, of course, the plaintiff); both the incident which incited the suit, as well as the trial in its entirety, occurred after my 21st birthday.
    • I live in Texas, as does my family.
Complications: All of my personal bank accounts are currently closed (though my total debt amounts to under $2000 across the board, insofar as overdrawn accounts are concerned). • The trust is in its own account, and the primary of this account is my father (to the best of my knowledge). Of my closed accounts, one account (which I believe to have had some sort of tie to the trust-- of only being from the same bank) was either a joint account (which I doubt, seeing as it is closed and accumulating debt, affecting my credit score, lol) or an account for which my father had signing authority.
    • Following the incident, admittedly, I experienced prolonged difficulty "adjusting" to going without my doctor-prescribed pain meds, after an 8+ month-long regimen of high doses of incredibly potent opioid-based pain management drugs on a daily basis (in addition to a litany of other medications with strong drug interactions, including prescription anti-anxiety drugs). • This "difficulty" lead to the strained relationship (and eventual severance of financial ties) between my family and me. However, despite several years sans-drug dependency, and an earnest attempt to mend our lines of communication, it is beginning to look more and more like my family has little to no intentions of releasing my money to me.

So I want to know, what claims do I have for this money, assuming it is in a bank account without my name associated versus the claim my family has? Is there a possibility that they could have been using this money without my knowledge or consent these last few years? What steps would I have to take to reclaim this money, assuming that I have no access to any sort of documentation proving my claim? (And would/ should I be able obtain such documents from my lawyer or their firm?)

Thank you for any information you might have! Sorry it's so f**king long, ya'll [whomp, whomp].

Asked to be a confidential informant, declined and now have to go to court for driving under suspension.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:51 AM PST

Hello, I was wondering if I could fight it and get out of it. I was pulled over because the cop ran my license plate and it came up that I had a warrant in Georgia (which is bullshit because I've never been there) cop sat me down and told me I could be a ci to avoid my court date.. Gave him my number and was contacted by the agent, I told him I would think about it. Court date rolls around and I decided I didn't want to do it so I didn't contact the guy and instead went to court. My name wasn't on the list so they sent me home.. 2 or so weeks roll by and the sheriff shows up at my house and gives me his card with a new court date on it... I already showed up for court when it told me to on my citation, is he able to just write a new court date on the back of a sheriff's card and give it to me?

Boyfriend received a warning about an “unauthorized occupant” from his apartment complex after I spent the night from December 24-December 26. What should he do?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 10:37 AM PST

I'm on mobile so sorry for the format.

    This is in Oklahoma.

I spent those nights with my boyfriend as we never get time off together. I went back to my house after, and he had received a warning from his apartment complex about an unauthorized tenant and he has 15 days to correct the problem or he will be evicted.

My question is, how does he prove I don't live in his apartment? I don't keep any of my belongings there, and he doesn't understand why they think I live here. I rarely stay the night at his apartment, and we spend most of our time together at my house.

I just don't want him to get evicted but he doesn't know what his next step from here is.

Elderly woman (88) I care for fell in the middle of the night when I was not over at her house. Apparently the neighbors...

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 09:08 AM PST

Apparently her neighbors said(she lives in a small town house with very close by neighbors) said they could hear her screaming at 2am. She does not have a mobile phone just a house phone the kind that is attached to the wires. It is not near her bed. I am not with a company. I am not supposed to be at her house until 7:40 am everyday until I put her down for bed later that day at 9pm. I found out because as soon as I got to her house the neighbor told me they could hear her screaming from 2am until a little over til 5am when I am guessing she fell asleep again. Once I got there I panicked and called an ambulance because she told me she had pain. Turns out she had a heart attack and now is not doing well at all at the hospital she has been in the ER for 4 days, legally am I in trouble? The neighbors could have called me and told me they had my contact info and the womans I care for phone number but did nothing? Neighbors are all 80 to 90 year olds. Tennessee

I think she fell because I forgot to secure her bed like I normally do. Does that make me in any way at fault?

The government lost $100,000 of my girlfriend’s student loans?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:40 AM PST

Posting this for her because she doesn't use reddit. i've never posted here before so i'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but if i'm in violation of any subreddit rules please let me know and i'll do my best to fix it.

My girlfriend (22) lives in the Philadelphia area and graduated from a New York private college last year, which is where we met. She recently started paying off her student loans, which were around $135,000. The majority of them (about $100,000) were through Parent Plus government loans, while the rest were through Pell Grant. when it came time to pay her loans though, the company that had bought the loans through the US government sent her a repayment plan for only approximately $34,000. obviously confused, she called them and they claimed that they had bought all of her loans from the years 2014-2017 and that there were no more outstanding loans apart from the $34,000. It's been about three months since she started paying these, and she or her her parents haven't received any other mail or warnings from any other company besides the one that bought the $34,000 worth of loans. So we have a few questions:

-is it possible the government just "lost" these loan records?

-is it her responsibility to try to run down these loans, even though she hasn't received any collection notices from any other company?

-if she does end up receiving collection notices, would she be required to pay the payments that have already passed as a lump sum?

-should she contact a lawyer? what kind of lawyer would deal with these cases? what would the legal process look like?

we understand these are complex legal questions obviously, so any help at all to any of these would be appreciated. thanks in advance for any responses!

Nephew predicts own death in messages; is there any legal ramifications to sharing.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 01:58 PM PST

My 17-year oldnephew was killed in an auto accident last month. I was searching his phone and came across messages that were sent on the night of his death. In the messages, he is telling the person that he is texting that he is scared to death that the other driver and other passengers were on drugs and that he didn't know it. He goes on to say that he believes he is going to die. There are several texts talking about how scared he is and then the last one stated "my last words are" and I won't post here what it was, but in less than a minute he was dead.

The police are aware of these messages, but I am losing hope that anything will be done at all. It is a rural county and many, many mistakes concerning the incident have already been made such as a possible delay in a blood test that might have given the type of drug he said they were on time to clear the system. I wouldn't dream of releasing these messages publically while they are at least going through the motions of investigating, but when it is done. I think that he deserves to have his last moments known. The guy who was driving has shown no remorse and almost seemed to be joyous at the memorial. I want to know if there is any legal ramification to say taking a screenshot of the messages and posting them publicly? My nephew was like a son to me and I don't believe that I ever get legal justice for him, but can I at least get social justice?

Edited to add location, I am in Indiana

Also wanted to clear up when I say he was scared they were on drugs and he didn't know it. I meant he was scared because they WERE on drugs and he didn't know it until AFTER he was already in the car and they were moving. He would have never got in the car had he known.

(Georgia, USA) Injured on the job, out of work for a month and just found out my insurance claim was denied.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:12 AM PST

I had been going to the doctor my employer sent me to. He put me on light duty but there was none available so I've been at home and going to doctor appointments for the last month. This last visit though was with a totally different doctor at the same practice.

I called the insurance company today and they said my claim was denied. I've been kicked out of the airBNB I was staying in because I wasn't able to pay and now I won't be getting reimbursed for the time I've been out.

    What do I do now?

Is it legal for an employer to demand an observed random drug test? (GA)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 01:34 PM PST

I work at a car dealership in south Georgia and I'm an exemplary employee. I've never called out of work, I meet all my deadlines, I have a positive attitude. I was selected for a random drug test. I could see that based on the group selected it was absolutely random. We are getting a cheaper insurance company this quarter so I believe that's why.

However, they demanded an observed test. From the moment I was told I was randomly selected, i was under strict supervision. All 6 of us were. If i refused to let the nurse watch me pee, I was terminated. The test was done at a local Urgent Care clinic. But I had to pull off my pants, then underwear, sit, lift my shirt, and spread my legs. I looked a few things up and I don't believe it was legal for them to demand this. I'm not even looking to do anything about it, I just want to know

Large support dog for mental health with no paperwork blocking restaurant exit path (Florida) - who was correct?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 10:47 AM PST

I was in a small quick-serve restaurant in Florida and a woman walks in with a very large (100+lbs) support dog with a vest that lies down effectively blocking the main entrance requiring people to step over the dog to get in and out. The manager politely asked the lady if (1) she had paperwork for the dog and (2) if she could move the dog over. The manager said the paperwork she was required to ask for the dogs paperwork by the health department. The dog owner said it was illegal to ask for the dog's paperwork since it was a mental health support dog (and that she could sue the lady for even asking her) and then argued that the dog was not blocking the entrance. Ultimately the lady just ate and left - there really wasn't a resolution.

I felt bad for the woman who was clearly distressed by the manager's question but also understand the managers point of view.

I was curious if anyone knew what the actual law was and who was correct?

F/17; Parents Want Me To Get Married

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 05:06 PM PST

I live in Ontario, Canada and come from a conservative South Asian family. I'm a 17 y/old female and the eldest of four children.

I was recently part of an investigation in an effort to press charges against my ex for sexual assault and domestic violence. My parents eventually found out and the charges didn't happen as the guy's a minor. Anyway, this caused my parents to be even more paranoid that I'm at "risk" for losing my virginity and "bringing shame upon the family for generations." (I'm not even a virgin, but they don't know that). My Mom is the type that when I told her I was raped and had my jaw fractured, the first thing she'd asked was, "but you're still a virgin, right?"

So now, she's telling my aunt, who lives back home, to search for a boy/man for me. She says I have no say in this as I'm stupid enough to have gotten raped, hence I'm immature and don't know better for myself.

I'm graduating high school early as I have all my credits for university. I'm on the honour roll and striving for a merit scholarship --- I've been working my ass off, and my parents believe that marriage won't interfere with my goals. What's funny is that they don't even believe in my goals of wanting to become a psychologist one day, as it's not "reputable", as, say, a doctor. Since I'll be done by the end of January, I overhead my Mom mentioning to my Aunt how that's a "efficient" thing.

My gut's telling me that she's bent on sending me back to my home country and getting me married off.

I'm not allowed to move out, I barely have 2K saved up. I don't have a job anymore, and my parents, especially my Mom, is pushing me to transfer all the money from my account into hers. And then have a joint account with her. She says it's to build credit score, but regarding her behaviour and the circumstances, I doubt it.

If I move out, my parents won't support me financially. They'll cut ties with me. Whatever step I take, I have to think of my 3 siblings and how it could affect them. Yes, my Dad hits me once in a blue moon.

I don't know what to do. They raised me and always told me that "education is everything", but clearly they're hypocritical enough to get me married off to some fucking stranger, who's from halfway around the world. I've already experienced domestic abuse and sexual assault from my previous relationship. Just imagining being set up for a marriage for years and years that has that shit again infuriates me.

There's no friends that can help my situation, nor do I have any cousins in the country. I don't want to report my parents and get them into legal action as my siblings' lives will be affected. They're not abusive towards them, just with me, particularly. They think that if I get "independent", then I'll become a whore.

All this shit makes me anxious that I won't find someone on my own, like an equal partner.

UPDATE: I asked my parents about the phone call and they basically yelled at me about how bad of a daughter I'd be if I didn't agree to their chosen match. They then pressed me and asked what type of guy I want to marry --- I'm 17, how the fuck am I supposed to know?

My dad said that if I ever backed out of marriage or said no to their choice, he'd commit suicide. Both my parents think I'm not good enough to ever be "in love" or have that reciprocated, romantically. Both say that my choice doesn't matter, that they know best, and that it's shameful for them to consult me before marrying me off. They don't think that good guys exist in Canada. That they can only be from my backwards country.

In my head, I've forgiven them countless times even though they've never asked for forgiveness. They've never asked me whether I was okay when they found out about the rape, never hugged me nor provided me comfort for it. I have anxiety about everything; my future, never being able to find an equal, nor being loved, my reputation 'cause apparently everything comes with the protruding eyes of others. I can't trust anybody as I've been told since the age of seven that there's no such thing as friends, that only family is prevalent above all else.

I know there's a beautiful world out there, much larger than the walls of my house. I'm so damn petrified.

Brothers ex wife went to prison and her family hid it from him. He now wants custody of their 8yo daughter.

So basically my brother has not seen his daughter for about 5 years, due to his ex wife making difficult and them living in different states (he in NC, her in FL).

About a year ago he was informed that his child support for his daughter has stopped because the she was no longer in the care of his ex wife. After calling around to different friends and family of his ex, to try and find out where his daughter was and who's care she was now, he finally had the police go do a wellness check on the child. Police confirmed that the child was safe at the last know address for his ex wife and her family. Days later he finally gets in contact with the ex wife's current husband or brother (not sure which) and they informed him that she is on some type of mission trip out if the country. Since his ex wife is VERY religious he just accepts it and moved on.

Fast foward a year and my brother tries to get into contact with his daughter/ex for the holidays, but has no luck. He decides to Google her to find maybe some new contact information instead he finds her mugshot. She is doing 3 years (2 to go) for a fraud related crime. So he has been lied to the entire time and the exs current husband has had custody of the child and no one bothered to tell him.

My brother and his current wife now want custody of his daughter:

The daughter has not had a relationship with him since she was around 3yo. I believe they have been to court for custody and the ex wife was awarded full custody (I could be wrong about this, could be some level of joint custody.) I read over the court case and the daughter was somewhat used in the ex wife's crime that sent her to prison.

My brother plans to fly down to FL soon to really get his head around the situation.

Does he have the right to take his daughter? (not forcefully or anything, but under police escort or something) Does it need to go through courts? If so what is the process?

    My wife has been admitted

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 03:00 AM PST

I live in Grovetown Georgia. Yesterday afternoon, the police were contacted by acquaintances of my wife. They claimed that she was a risk to herself after she revealed she had taken 15 milligrams of Percocet, well within the range of doses considered to be harmless in the long term. The medication in question was prescribed to her and was within its acceptable use date. She was taken against her will by the police and medical officials present. She is now being held against her will by the medical facility in question. I have been denied any and all direct contact with her during the time she remains at this facility. She is scheduled to be moved to another facility as soon as they find one. I would like to know what I can do legally to remove my wife from the custody of this hospital, and or gain contact with her while this process commences. Any help would be appreciated.

Update: I was just informed that because of our lack of insurance at this time, they are limited in what facilities they can send her to, and by extension, they can hold her indefinately with no outside contact. I'm furious.

[Update]: Being cyber-stalked/harassed from a person in another country and he's exhausting all avenues to reach and threaten me

TLDR of last post: I've been stalked online for months by a former close friend who lives in New York, while I live in Canada. His threats have been increasing in severity and he knows my full name and address.

Massive thanks to the people who offered their thoughts on my first post, but things have escalated quicker than I expected since then. Again, things might be left intentionally vague but I can expand if necessary.

    Update:
Yesterday I received an email from the man who had been cyber stalking me for months through what seemed to be a throwaway email. It entailed his suicide note, as he claimed to have attempted the day before and had plans to attempt again very soon.

To expand: In this note he blamed mostly me for driving him to that point and he mentioned having booked a plane ticket for Canada in the near future. He then said he could not wait that long, so he tried to use a knife to attempt suicide the day before but failed, then went on to say something along the lines of but you can't make a mistake with a gun. There isn't any proof of this plane ticket, just his word. But frankly, that absolutely cannot happen. I live with my family, and he sounded deranged in the email and mentioned having a firearm.

Due to the mention of a suicide attempt, I panicked and phoned his local police and from there he was placed on an involuntary mental hold. From there the doctor reached out to me and I forwarded him the note through email. Now that he has been hospitalised, I'm filled with many more questions and concerns. I have no doubt he's going to be furious with me for this, and I can't imagine how much more things can escalate.

I'm not positive if it's due to international limitations or not, but after speaking with the doctor I received two phone calls from the hospital and was immediately put on hold each time, then promptly hung up on. The third time I let it go to voicemail but no voicemail was left, which seems weird from hospital staff. I'm worried my phone details somehow got released to his family and that those were their attempts to reach me.

Question 1. Are phone details of a closely related party able to be disclosed to a patient's family if they're above age (over 21), or would that be a privacy concern?

Question 2. The doctor gave me his details in the email and I'm considering asking for his advice regarding a no contact order, as I don't believe this situation is resolved. Would this be a good idea?

Question 3. What measures do I take to get a restraining order from Canada in a situation like this? As in, would this be something I would need to go to court for? I need to ensure this man does not have a chance in hell to get on that plane and torment me or my family.

Neighbor’s tree fell on my house and they are refusing to pay/help with any of the clean up

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:23 PM PST

Earlier this year my dad had two massive trees cut down in our backyard due to them looking pretty unstable. My dad knocked on the neighbors door and verbally advised them to do the same as the tree on their side of the fence was just as large and looking as though it was going to come down in our direction if ever.

Fast forward 6 months and that exact thing happened, the tree came down on our house causing 80k in damages and compromising the house's structural integrity. Thankfully majority of the damages will be covered by insurance, but the cleanup and removal of the massive tree from our yard is not. At first the neighbor was willing to pay for this, but his wife intervened and informed us that they would not be paying.

My dad wants to be petty and cut the tree up himself and throw it all to his side of the fence (which would take days, this tree is so big it's all over my front and backyard) but I feel like they could take legal action against us if he does that. My question is is there anything we can do to pursue legal action against them since it's their tree or are we shit outta luck?

    Misdiagnosed Stroke

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 08:07 AM PST

    Tennessee

My wife (F30) woke up Dec. 24 vomiting and unable to walk. It took her 30 minutes to be able to focus enough to call someone to help. She then crawled to the door vomiting to unlock it. They got to the er within 30 minutes. She had to be assisted into the ER vomiting the whole way unable to walk. We were seen by a physician assistant who was very quick and told us it was an inner ear infection. Her symptoms were dizziness, vertigo, unable to stand, and vomiting. He said he would get the symptoms under control and send us home with a nasal steroid. If symptoms continued we need to see our PCP in three days. Three days later we found to PCP and she immediately sends us to have an MRI because she couldn't believe we didn't have one on Dec.24. We have the MRI and they start freaking out and send us to the big name hospital because she had a massive stroke. Since its three days later, we couldn't have the clot busters, so we've been in the ICU ever since. Do I have a case for the initial er visit. Very unsure.

GA- If a couple with children, not married, separates is the husband still liable for any spousal support ?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:27 AM PST

Friend and the mother of his children split after 12 years, she left. They were never married and I know GA has no common law marriage. Would he be liable for any support for her outside of child support ?

CA: School asking for ~$5000 tuition for 9 week unpaid internship

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 01:59 PM PST

    Hi guys!

Long time reader first time poster here looking for some advice from a someone well versed in California labor and/or education laws. Ok, here's the story:

I go to a 2 year advertising portfolio school in CA. This is a non-degree program that helps you put together a creative portfolio and build connections over the course of 8 quarters with the idea that you'll get a job in the creative side of the advertising industry.

In the 5th quarter of the program we are offered what the school calls "agency labs" around the world. These labs are essentially full time internships as well as two classes that you continue to take through the school. The internships are unpaid and you continue to pay the ~$5000 tuition for the quarter, ostensibly because you are offered classes along with the internship.

This quarter me and 2 of my classmates were offered internships at an advertising agency here in California. A week or so ago our school informed us that the two classes that are generally offered as part of the "agency lab" wouldn't be offered to us this quarter.

As far as I know, unpaid internships are illegal in California, never mind a school expecting you to pay them $5000 just for setting up an internship. I had assumed that by offering classes during the internship they were able to skirt around these laws, but now that no classes are being offered, I'm not really sure why I'm spending $5000 for them to set up something I'm sure I could have done myself and be getting paid for? I'm feeling very taken advantage of and would love some advice on what kind of legal standing I have on this matter.

Thanks so much for any help!!

I was terminated over a bad customer review.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:41 AM PST

I live in Australia, so different laws may apply. I was fired today over a negative review I received several days ago - one where a customer (who I didn't even speak to) made false claims about me. My boss didn't even speak to the other employees who were working on the day, before firing me without a chance to properly explain myself. Do I have any grounds to make a case for unfair dismissal? I'd been working for the company for eight months, and had never recieved any previous bad reviews, or written warnings.
