Is No Claims Bonus affected if I replace a Windscreen I don’t claim for? Insurance

Is No Claims Bonus affected if I replace a Windscreen I don’t claim for?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2018 04:13 AM PST

I need to have the windscreen on my car replaced but am getting confused on how it will affect NCB.

I don't have Windscreen Insurance so plan on paying for it 100% by myself, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer to my phrasing of the question.

I'm young so don't really want my insurance to go up because my NCB resets, but I don't see why it would if I don't claim.

What kind of insurance does a pizza delivery guy need?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 02:42 PM PST

    TL;DR at the bottom.

I'm getting a new car and a job as a pizza delivery driver. I am trying to insure the car, but I was turned down by GEICO. I called about getting an auto policy and after they asked where I will be working and what I will be doing they transferred me to their commercial auto department, and then they rejected me saying "we aren't currently insuring pizza delivery drivers right now."

I called the pizza company's HR to ask if they offer 3rd party auto insurance while you are on the job, to which she responded they do not and I might try GEICO. I was hoping I could just get a personal plan, not mention my occupation to the company, and use the 3rd party insurance if I ever had to make a claim. The HR rep also told me that 95% of drivers have a personal auto policy/the bare minimum requirements in my state, and not a commercial policy.

Do I just get a personal policy and not tell them I'll be delivering pizzas? I read online though that if you ever have to make a claim, then they can deny you coverage and drop you from the policy altogether if you are not honest with them from the start about your delivery job. So what gives then? Are 95% of this company's drivers "insured" to be road legal, but if they ever had to make a claim would they not really be covered? I'm confused. I also have a friend who delivers pizzas and he is covered by State Farm, has a normal, bare minimum, personal auto policy, and says that they are aware that he delivers pizzas for a living.

TL;DR: What is the bare minimum type of auto insurance policy that I need to get in the state of Florida as a pizza delivery driver to actually be covered by the insurance in the event I have to make a claim?

    My agent is ghosting me?!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 03:18 PM PST

I had a state farm agent while living in California, I recently moved an hour north and am now in Oregon. I called him to get switched to Oregon and he said that he is licensed in both states so I don't have to switch. I said okay and waited for my new cards and policy information to arrive in the mail... It never did. I emailed him and explained that I never received them and he said that it looks like he had the wrong address but everything is corrected now and I should receive my paperwork soon. 2 months later I never receive it. And then I get a call saying I haven't payed my bill in 2 months. Mind you I've been on auto payments for the last 2 years?! I emailed him again and his assistant emailed me back saying that my renter's insurance is on autopayments but my car insurance never was. This is a total lie and they treated me as if this was my fault. Finally I had enough and emailed my agent to cancel all my policies. He usually responds within an hour, a couple days go by and he never responds. Then I get a bill for $622 dollars???? Due by December 24th. My usual monthly payment is $92. I called him today and his assistant said he was busy but I left my name and number and she said he would get ahold of me. 4 hours have gone by and they are about to close. I've called them 5 times since and no answer. I don't know what to do or why they are doing this to me?? I'm not sure who else to contact about this.

Insureds renewal was revised and premium increased

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 03:28 PM PST

I am an agent in Indiana and I am dealing with a messed up situation. One of my insureds had their renewal documents generated and sent to him. Three days later, the system recalculated the premium and sent him new renewal documents, with a significantly higher premium. Apparently there was a system issue the incorrectly rated the renewal.

I escalated it to my home office, but I was told it happened during the underwriting review period and they will not honor the initial, lower offer. I'm very familiar with the review period at new business, but this is a renewal.

How can they send the insured a renewal and then change it? Has anybody experienced anything like this? I'm tempted to call the DOI for my customer, as I feel this is bullshit and unethical.

Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated.

Guy side swiped my car. His insurance says they'll only pay me half because he lied and said I went into his lane too.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 05:59 PM PST

He slams into my car from the side. Begs me not to call the insurance or police. I call the police get a police report. (I didn't see the report but it was sent to his insurance. I call his insurance and tell them what happened. They say the police reports states he was cited for improper lane change. But as I said in the title when he made his statement, he lied and said we were both at fault and the insurance took this as an opportunity to only pay me half. (Damage was about $1600) I asked them to send me the police report and she lied and said she didn't have it even after she told me she had seen it. And she said "well, it's your word against his so we believe our insured."

    Choices:

    1. Accept the $800, and sue the guy personally for the other $800?

    2. Go to my own insurance and have them argue it for me? (I really don't want to do this.)

    3. Take the 800 and sue the Insurance for the other $800? (Not sure if that would work.)

    4. Just fuck it and take the $800?

Any other good choice I didn't think of?

Life insurance quote tripled after underwriting; State Farm agent claims they couldn't have possibly known.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 11:12 PM PST

So I'm a big guy, this is known to all. I called my State Farm office to apply for a life insurance policy and gave them all my particulars including weight and height. The quote comes back and I'm happy with the number. We go through the entire process, medical exam, 50 questions, etc. Underwriting kicks it back and three times the rate quoted (went from table 0 to table 6). I call my agent to inquire as to how it was weighted (no pun intended) and she was completely daft. I tried to articulate my concern, that I was up front and forthright with my weight and that should have been factored in the quote. I call the primary agent/owner and complain. He states that they can not quote based on weight and that it always has to go through underwriting before they factor weight. I asked him what the point of getting a quote was if it was clearly going to differ based on such an obvious factor as my weight. He just repeated the same line and I gave up.

My question for insurance professionals, if someone was in your office that was clearly obese, had listed their height and weight on the application, would you quote them preferred rates without so much as a warning that weight may factor negatively from the quote?

    Terminal Illness

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:33 PM PST

I don't get all this insurance terminology and stuff and I know it differs from plan to plan and person to person but let's say

Someone gets a terminal illness and is told they wouldnt survive the next 12 months, and their insurance company starts giving them money every month to support them for those 12 months. If they do survive the 12 months, what happens then? If they survive way longer than their predicted death yet still die anyway what's the consequences of that with their insurance? If they survive their illness completely?

Got in a minor accident... Do I report?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 09:57 PM PST

I'm sorry, I'm sure these questions appear here often. I'm not sure whether I should be reporting this to insurance to risk a 50-50. I have geico and am located in the U.S.

I pulled up beside the car in front of the empty space so that I could parallel park. I had my blinkers on. I looked backwards and noticed that cars were stopped and were moving into the other lane to get past me. Once I noticed it was clear enough for me to back up, I twisted my wheel to start moving backwards. I'm looking back into the parking space and while the front of the car is swinging (still in my lane) we collide into another car. My bumper is square on the side of his car.

This car was trying to squeeze past me and was HALF in the further left lane away from me and HALF in MY lane that I was in.

I have a picture of his car sitting right on both sides of the white line.

We have minor paint damage. I know I should have been looking to my left when I was backing up, instead of looking backwards. Should I still file a claim? I feel like there's a chance it becomes a 50-50, what do you think?

PA - Accident in car wash. How do I handle this insurance wise?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 09:19 PM PST

Using a throwaway for obvious reasons. I'm feeling very discouraged and foolish about this incident. Originally posted to /r/legaladvice with no dice so far.

I'm a NY state resident visiting PA. While driving through Pennsylvania I decided my car desperately needed a wash because it was covered in road salt. I'll be in the area a few days for a social function and I didn't want my car to sit undriven over the weekend with salt caked on it.

I stopped at a Gas Station (GS) that has an older automatic car wash with tracks that you pull onto and a button to press once you are inside to start the wash. I am not used to this kind. I have always used the stationary single arm washers.

Someone entered the wash in front of me and the door closed. I used the self service kiosk to pay... After some while the wash door opened. There is signage around but no lights guiding you in to look at. In my experience if the door opens it means the wash is free.

Because of the door I assumed the wash was free and ready to use. I angle my car forward onto the rails with my widow rolled down ready to press the button as expected... Before I could press the button the wash picked up my tires and started moving forward quickly. I panicked and was immensely focused on closing my window. Nobody wants a car full of water. Because I was so intent on the window the car remained in Drive.

This specific car wash is older and has the overhead slappers and brushes that you can't see in front of. I was pulled quickly through the wash and unbeknownst to me the other car was still in the wash and I bumped into it from behind.

I was able to stop the car and pull it through the wash bay. The person in front of me stopped and was casual about the incident. We exchanged information and he left. His car sits higher than mine and is virtually undamaged. My car is unfortunately damaged. The grille is cracked in several places, bumper and brand emblem are scratched.

I went inside and explained the issue to GS manager. We will call her Becky. Becky offered her apologies and stated they have had issues with the wash before (today even) and also that "your car should have been in Neutral". She also reiterated the signage stating that the wash and GS are not liable for damage.

I stated I thought something was wrong with the wash. I expect the bay door to open when the wash is clear and ready. I have reason to believe I pulled into the wash cycle of the person in front of me. I cited safety concerns and wanted to speak to GS headquarters.

Becky stated we need to do some paperwork, but first get my car cleaned up proper.

My car went so quicky through the wash in the original panic that it was not cleaned. Becky comped me another wash and made sure she walked me through it. It worked ok that time. No other cars were using it right before or immediately after.

Becky then took photographs of the damage to the front of my car.

After that she took my license and proof of insurance and made photocopies. I was given an incident sheet and told to call a phone number to GS Headquarters Tuesday. She needed additional time to fill out the incident report on her side.

From there I made a few shaken phone calls and preceded to my destination.

Should I make a claim to my own insurance? Get a written statement from the driver my car bumped into? Wait for the response from the GS Headquarters?

I would appreciate direction. Thank you everyone.

TL;DR Got a car wash. Was expecting to press a button to start it but was grabbed by the automatic rail and reeled in first. Freaked out and focused on getting my window up because it was down. Car hit person in front of me using the wash. Have reason to believe it was malfunctioning and reported to Gas Station. What do? How should I handle this? Should OP be allowed to drive ever again?

California: Traffic violation dismissed, still on driving record

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 12:53 PM PST

Hi. I got a traffic ticket for failure to stop at limit line for stop sign. The traffic ticket was dismissed a month ago. However, it is on my driving record. I missed my first court date for this ticket and then I rescheduled for a new date. I attended the new court date and they dismissed the ticket. On the court's website, it shows dismissed. However, it also shows guilty after trail declaration (probably since I missed the first court date). It was eventually dismissed though.

Is there any way to remove the violation off my record?

    Thank you in advance.

My cousin did my car insurance for me, I am fucked?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 04:42 AM PST

My cousin did my car insurance for me, he lied to get a cheaper rate. I only found out after.

It was my first insurance I didn't know what I was doing.

He said I have a partner that is like a 39 year old woman. He also put a multicar discount on it.

I have no idea how this works, everything was fine for a year. They have now renewed the policy then canceled it.

I did not want to renew, but will this effect my ability to get insurance in the future?

They said they will 'Treat the policy as never existed'

Insurance on car i haven’t driven for a year

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 01:49 PM PST

Am i going to get a penalty for trying to insure a car that has been without insurance the last year? I bought it and after a week it broke down, and I never got the chance to insure it. It has been sitting on my garage the last year while I've been outside the country. I'm back now and I could finally fix it and I want to start driving it now.

Can I reduce my insurance rate as a result from speeding in another state? Ticket has already been paid for.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 04:11 PM PST

Hi, I am a California resident (with a CA driver license) and was pulled over for speeding in the state of Oregon in June 2018. During that time, I asked the officer if they would be mailing me my ticket so I could pay it off and he said they would. Fast forward almost 5 weeks later, I still did not receive my ticket via mail. As such, I decided to check if there was a way I could pay online and found out that there was. It was a good thing I kept my citation because I had to enter in my citation # online in order to pay it off.

While I was paying it off, there was no option for traffic school. Since this is also my first time getting pulled over, I did not really have an idea of how the whole process even worked. I figured if I paid off my violation, I would be in the clear. Boy, was I wrong as my insurance rate nearly doubled as a result of that violation.

Is there any way I can possibly reduce that rate?

    Jaw surgery and medical insurance

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 01:25 PM PST

Long story short, I got sucker punched back in January. Fractured my jaw in two places. I went to the ER, was admitted, got jaw surgery. Couldn't eat solids for 6 weeks. It sucked and I wouldn't recommend it.

The hospital was out of network, however it was an emergency. I have Medi-cal (which from my understanding) is co-managed between Anthem Blue Cross and another medical group. The hospital has been sending claims to Anthem and Anthem has been denying them. When I called Anthem, they told me it was the other medical group's responsibility. I called the other medical group and they told me they weren't getting claims. When I called the hospital, they told me they didn't even have the other group's information.

I'm really stressing out, because I read about a timely filing limit(?) of 365 days. Is this a situation that this may be a problem in? The incident was 11 months ago. I'm worried that I may be liable after that limit. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm thinking of signing up with Geico for auto insurance. But because I got burned by another insurance company in the past, I want to read the fine print. The folks on the phone and in the local office claimed not to have one, heh. Can someone share their policy manual with me? I'm particularly interested in info related to long term car rentals. Thanks!!

Need help from someone well versed in State Farm Homeowner policy

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 09:34 AM PST

I'm having difficulty getting refunded for a grace period I wasn't told about. I called my agent prior to the expiration of my policy to see if I could get my premiums lowered. The rep tried to bundle my policy, but it was still too high. It was understood at that time that I would not be renewing. I signed up for a new policy with a different carrier to start the same day as the State Farm policy expired. Well, State Farm kept charging me for a month. They stated I was under a grace period. Therefore, I had double coverage. State Farm corporate isn't budging with the refund, since the local agent is saying they did not receive a formal request for cancellation.

The other policies I've had always cancelled at the expiration period (I always paid yearly). The rep did not inform me of a grace period and the need to formally cancel or I would be charged. Is the auto renewal of the policy and grace period stated somewhere in their polices? How do you think I should proceed? It doesn't seem like they care about a BBB complaint. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Was HMO, had a baby, switched to PPO (via life changing event) was billed for the entire pregnancy. Help!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 01:09 PM PST

My wife and I were on an HMO plan through her work.

After we had our lovely daughter, we decided to switch to a PPO plan so that we could choose her doctor. We were out of the enrollment window, so we used the special exception, "life changing event" (The birth), to enroll into a PPO plan.

A few months later, we were advised that as we were now under a PPO plan, and we were no longer covered by our HMO plan for our daughter's birth. We were asked to pay for the entire thing out of pocket.

We couldn't afford the several thousand dollar medical bill, so we are now on a payment plan (paying as little as possible).

Three years later, this still doesn't sit well with me. As the insurable event occurred while we were covered by the HMO, shouldn't we have been covered?

    Can anyone help?

I live in Illinois and the hospital we gave birth at was covered by the HMO at the time. Specific references to Illinois statute would be preferred as I believe Blue Cross Blue Shield's position will be that it is not covered until cited specific legal statute for their legal to confirm.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:58 AM PST

So I'm new to the insurance industry and I had an interview as a claims trainee. They suggested to all the interviewees to consider what line we were interested in entering, which is either workers comp or liability (general? Auto?). I was actually interested in entering the industry as an underwriter or something more on the analytical side but have been looking to enter as claims to get my foot through the door. So I'm curious which is better to go into if I want pursue something analytical/dealing with data in the future?

Diminished Value Claim Denial due to ISO Database accident claim

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 08:39 AM PST

I was in an accident 7 months ago where the other party was at fault. And I filed a diminished value claim to recoup lost value. I purchased the car used and the car fax report showed zero accidents and only service reports. Their insurance has denied my claim because they say it was in a collision reported on the ISO Database (?). Is there a way for me to view this report? How do I find more information about it? Any recourse?

Fast forward to now, they're growing (or have grown) and have completely shifted and squeezed my bottom teeth together in a crooked manner along with the pain every once in a while.

Anyways! I now have medi-cal and am wondering if wisdom teeth extraction would be covered? Thank you so much.

    Help with medical insurance selection

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 07:45 AM PST

    Hello,

I know nothing about medical insurance and need to select what medical insurance I want from my company. I attached the two pages outlining the plans that are available.

I am a 26 year old male with no serious health issues. I did a year of physical therapy for my back but do not expect to need to return. Nothing else important to mention as I am fairly healthy.

Company pays premium. $0 for premium for each plan.

Could I please get advice or help with selecting the best plan for me as I am completely lost. I'm trying not to need to spend a lot of money on my health insurance unnecessarily.

    Here are the plans.

Dad's truck totaled- not at fault but opposing driver's insurance won't cover it all.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 07:34 AM PST

My dad was in an accident where the other driver's truck slipped on black ice, rammed into the front of my dad's truck, and totaled both of the vehicles. My dad was deemed not at fault by the police but the other driver's shitty insurance will only cover $5,000 of the approx. $8,000+ cost of my dad's truck in the condition it was in prior to the accident. Is my dad able to sue for the remaining money or is it a total loss? My dad also sustained minor injuries but had to see a doctor and my little brother, who was also in the truck, didn't have any injury. Money is tight for us and he probably wont be able to afford a replacement truck without the couple thousand dollars.

Edit: Accident happened in PA, dad is NJ driver and other driver is from PA.
