Insurance won't approve MRI of brain and cervical spine Posted: 24 Dec 2018 07:20 PM PST Happy Christmas Eve! Today marks nearly a year of unexplained neurological symptoms that a lot of doctors dismissed as anxiety, yet they persist despite anti-anxiety medications. My rheumatologist requested an MRI of my brain and cervical spine, but apparently told the prior auth people that I've been having headaches (inaccurate, my most prevalent symptoms have been numbness and weakness, parasthesia/dysthesia,change in cognition, bladder issues, eye problems etc). My rheumatologist referred me to a neurologist, but they need to review my case and if my rheumatologist is saying "headaches" I doubt neurology will take me in. In a nutshell, how much is a brain MRI OOP and can I just go get one? My plan is supposed to be good (Regence) but they deny everything. It took me 2 months to get them to approve a necessary medication because they wanted me to restart my medications when I switched over to them. Basically, angry brain needs help and insurance says "brain not angry, doctor wrong no MRI for u" [link] [comments] |
Car Accident - What happens if / when I reach the insurance maximum medical coverage? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:47 PM PST My wife and I were in a Car Accident a few months ago, the other person was at fault. I have been getting medical treatment. I've been keeping track of the cost of how much my "own" medical insurance has been paying; it's over $45,000 in coverage thus far, over $2,000 in out of pocket expenses. (Xrays, MRIs, CatScans, PT, Injections and possible surgery in the future) Now my understanding of it is, the opposing's insurance has a coverage amount for medical expenses. i.e. will cover up to $25,000 in medical bills. Once I reach that amount, the other opposing's car insurance won't cover anything else. - Is this right? Will there still be a settlement talk for pain and suffering if / when I reach that medical total? I imagine my own health insurance will want a cut of it since they're covering the total cost of medical. My guess is that at this point it's a good time to lawyer up, but I feel I may have gone too far without a lawyer. (Providing a recorded statement, past medical release form and so forth.) - No, I didn't sign off on an "I'm done with treatment" form. This accident has affected me in a great deal of stress for my family and work life. How screwed is the other person? It sucks that I got injured and that my bills have exceeded what they have. I don't want their lives to be ruined because of an accident, but I also don't want to go without feeling better. I imagine they'll be sued by my health insurance if the covered total isn't paid off by their insurance. tl;dr - What happens if / when I meet or exceed a car insurance medical coverage total? Will my own medical insurance go after the insurance or insured party via court? Will there still be a settlement talk for pain and suffering? - How screwed is the person who hit me? Insurance paid $100 for hundreds worth of damages because of fire Posted: 24 Dec 2018 10:16 AM PST Hello all, There was a fire in my quadplex a few months ago. Our apartment wasn't touched by the fire, but some of our electrical appliances were damaged because of the surge. My roommate and I also needed to stay in a motel for a night; I stayed two nights because when I went to our apartment in the first morning the no stay sign was still up. When I submitted my claim I put all the damaged items on the claim (xbox 1, computer, and essentially 3 nights at a nearby motel) which amounted to around $800, but my insurance only paid me $100. I have been exchanging email between the agent assigned to this claim, but after a few emails he began ignoring my email. I eventually emailed his manager because the agent's out of office reply gave me the email. The manager now has been ignoring my emails, and they won't return my phone calls. What are my options? When would it be appropriate to contact a lawyer? Edit: this is for renters insurance in California. The manager ignored my email when I asked for the policy. I have been with this insurance for almost a decade, so I don't remember the specifics of the policy. [link] [comments] |
Staying with a relative in a Arizona, need to get a car Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:31 PM PST I am new to town in Arizona and I am looking to rent an apartment in a month's time, so for the time being I am staying at a relative's house. My driver's license address is currently at their place, they told me that I cannot use their address for my new car's insurance because I am not listed as a driver in their household's insurance policy, and listing me would increase their price. Does this mean that I have to wait until I get an apartment then I can get a car, or do they have to list me in their policy and go through the process of excluding me? Super confused, any advise will help, thanks! [link] [comments] |
Dad died while working. No workers comp. Will medical insurance cover hospital bills? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 02:18 PM PST [California] I'm sorry for the downer on Christmas, but my father passed away last night, and aside from this blow, I'm now having to grapple with the possibility that the medical bills will bankrupt my family. I'm hoping this community can help answer some questions:
Basic information:
My main question is, if the above is accurate, who is likely responsible for the medical/hospital bills?
To be honest, my family isn't concerned about death benefits, funeral costs, lost wages, etc. (although, if we're entitled, that'll obviously be good). We are mostly concerned with the enormous hospital bills that will inevitably come...and if medical insurance does not cover hospital bills for work-related deaths, my family will be financially ruined.
Please let me know if you need any other info for the most accurate response. Thank you all again in advance for whatever info you can provide. Have a merry Christmas. Please remember to cherish your loved ones. <3 [link] [comments] |
Next steps when filing not at fault in car accident? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 02:48 PM PST Was in a car accident and after a week later, my insurer said she spoke with the witnesses and the other driver and came to the conclusion that I'm not at fault. She said she's going to file it as not at fault or something along the lines of that. So what exactly do I do now? Do I talk to the other insurer to have them fix my car? I haven't heard from their adjuster in a while and the last time I spoke to him I was just giving my side of the story. I didnt have collision coverage so i can't have my insurance fix it [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 12:25 PM PST Geico / Texas / hit and run in parking lot TLDR Should I file against my uninsured motorist or should I file against my collision, keeping in mind that both will have the same deductible so my main concern is I don't want my rates to go up. I have Geico and am in Texas. Someone hit my Honda Accord in the parking lot and messed up my rear lights, so it's not going to be cheap (Honda is great but they are very expensive to work on). Probably more body work than it looks and paint and making sure the tail lights pass inspection. Someone from Geico just called and gave some very confusing information that doesn't add up so I want to ask here. From what I gather, I'm out 250 deductible either way, if I file on my collision or if I file on my uninsured motorist. If I file on uninsured motorist I need to get a police report -- not a problem. The guy assured me it's a no-fault incident. I parked it in my assigned parking one night and the next morning it had been hit. I would have noticed it had it been done earlier at the grocer, so it was absolutely in the apartment parking lot. I don't have any idea who did it, it was probably a truck, there are several candidates but they almost all have dents (and it's not hard to dent a Honda anyways), or it could have been a guest. Probably no way of knowing. Does anyone have advice or knowledge -- filing against uninsured motorist or filing against collision? Will one raise my rates or will both/neither raise my rates when I renew? [link] [comments] |
How long does it typically take for an adjuster to determine how much the car is worth? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 06:38 PM PST I was in an accident and found not at fault. I've just received a phone call that my car will be towed from the collision center to one of GEICO's lots for examination. The adjuster on the phone said that he called the body shop and they told him the car is totaled. He then said he trusts them but would like to see the car anyway and that he'll call me when he could. How long does it typically take for them to determine how much the car is worth? Then, after that, how long would it take to receive the check for the amount owed (if I accept the first offer)? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 08:11 AM PST Last Saturday the car next to mine caught fire in the parking lot leaving my car with some fire damage to the driver side. The driver has liability which apparently went into affect Friday. I have full coverage. I was told an adjuster would look at it Monday. Get a call today from another state saying they can't until Wednesday "short staffed". Setting me up with a rental today but she made it sound like my car is gonna be on me if they can't find a fault in the other driver. He has progressive also and she called it a double loss. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
(CA) Aftermarket parts and diminished value Posted: 24 Dec 2018 11:34 AM PST In Ontario, Canada here. My 2016 Accord was rear ended. All fault on the other driver. Estimate says $12k in damage. A bunch of body panels getting replaced with aftermarket ones. Two questions.
Bottom line of all this, it looks like I end up with a car worth way less and it's not even all Honda parts anymore. This accident that is entirely not my fault is going to cost me thousands in diminished value. Insurance company says they "make you whole again", but that's totally not true. Any advice to minimize my losses? [link] [comments] |
Can my vehicle be considered a total loss or not? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 02:26 PM PST So, my currently vehicle is almost paid off. The pay off is $2200. However, the transmission recently went out and it will cost $4000+ to repair. Which is more than what I owe and more than what the vehicle is worth (05 pathfinder). I can't afford to fix the thing and even if I could, Why would I pay more than what the vehicle is worth to get it fixed? If I have comprehensive Insurance, will the insurance company cover repairs? Secondly, if not, will they still consider the vehicle a total loss/totaled? If so, I do have Gap insurance which would help out a lot as I could use that as a down payment on a new vehicle. If they don't, it looks like I will have a car sitting in my driveway that I am paying for but can't use. -______- [link] [comments] |
(Texas) Best insurance for high risk driver? Full coverage. Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:47 PM PST Recently found out my insurance co pay is looking to exclude me from my dad's policy because of my accident history (none of which were my fault might I add) and now I have to find an insurance for myself. Any recommendations on insurance companies I should look at. I would ask for something that would be reasonably priced but as high risk I'm sure that's out the window. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 05:48 PM PST Hi! I'm 16 years old and was driving to lunch from school one day. Giant truck t boned me. 100% his fault. He got a citation and I drove back to school. A month later and apparently the car is totaled. I'm paying $3000 per year for insurance and all they can muster is $4200 for the cars value before the guy hit me?!???!! What the fuck is the point in that? Why would I pay $3000 per year for help selling my car after an accident? (Side note: the engine block and other parts of the car that are untouched are easily worth $5000 as spares). I don't need help selling my god damned car. If I wanted to sell it I would. Why wouldn't insurance pay me for the value of the car plus the cost of repairing the damage? The whole point of insurance is so that you don't have to pay out of pocket for an accident... but even though it wasn't my fault I'm losing a car and only getting $4200 which isn't anywhere near enough to buy a new car of the same caliber. My family bought that car 6 months prior to the accident for nearly twice what insurance is offering us. I literally have no clue how this ridiculous scam is going over every american's head.
