Too many auto generated articles/news on Google.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:30 AM PST

How has the Google algorithm not figured this out yet? Every time I google a company to see the latest news about it the first top 10 articles are just those robot generated articles where it spews out stats made to appear as if a human wrote them. They're not helpful, why are there so many of them? Why is google ranking them so high?

What is the best short-term investment for only a year or two?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 01:12 PM PST

I see a lot of posts on here recommending people put their money into an index fund following the S&P 500 for long-term investments. However, I haven't seen many posts discussing the best place to keep money when only investing for a year or two. I'm currently living with my parents and plan to move out within the next couple of years. Where would be the safest place to invest my money that could still get me a decent return (or at the very least beat inflation)?

If the US is a net exporter of oil, why does Trump care about OPEC cuts?

Does OPEC even matter any more?

Is anyone buying stock in preparation for a possible war? (US,Russia,NK)

    Posted: 08 Dec 2018 02:36 AM PST

Is anyone buying stock in preparation for a possible war? Seems that tensions with North Korea still building weapons and Russia's continued aggression it might be well advice to position now for possible wartime? I mean I could just be paranoid....should I buy shares in major companies that hold defense contracts and healthcare or am I just being paranoid?

Stock market investing question - buy and hold

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 09:44 PM PST

I am pretty new to stock investing and plan to buy and hold for the long term.

I have $3500 invested so far (25% vanguard & 75% general stocks) and was planning to continue add an additional $100 every two weeks.

I know it's a long term investment, but would it be best to wait on adding more until the market settles down? I'm reading and listening to podcasts in the meantime learning as much as I can.

Here is what I own now, any suggestions?

ESPP while the market is declining and a lack of positivity in the next 1-2 years?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 07:03 PM PST

I'm wondering if anyone else is considering pulling back their ESPP during the near future.

I've been investing 10% of salary towards our ESPP for years. The buying process is simple - lowest of either the opening or closing value over 6 months at a 15% discount.

In the years I've worked there I've invested in our ESPP I've made a lot of money - I've sold here and there, received RSUs, enjoyed decent dividends.

Right now our company is hurting like all others. At the very worst our stock would need to fall another 15% and not recover in 18 months for me not to make any returns or break even, but with how heavily invested I am in this company (hundreds and hundreds of shares) I am wondering if I should consider putting that 10% elsewhere until the makes sense to invest it again.

Anyone thinking similar things with their ESPPs? Or am I just feeling the risk of having more than my salary in the stock market and having to suffer through the first of many declines in my life?

    Trading Houses

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 01:26 PM PST

What trading houses do you guys use?

I am presently using M1 Finance, Robinhood and Webull because of the free stocks they offer and the automated trading.

    Update:

I use M1 for my IRA's. I use Robinhood if I want to hold something but may potentially toss it later and I only have WeBull Because they gave me 15 Free shares of Stock.

    Stock dividends question

Do you have to hold stock from the dividend ex-date to the dividend pay date in order to get the dividend? Or do you just have to own the stock at the dividend ex-date?
