Amazon, Facebook and Google are all being looked at for antitrust violations, Trump says

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 11:57 AM PST

We are looking at [antitrust] very seriously," Trump said. "Look, that doesn't mean we're doing it, but we're certainly looking and I think most people surmise that, I would imagine."

Trump said others have also considered action against tech companies but a "previous administration" stopped that. "They were talking about this years ago. You know they were actually talking about this same subject — monopoly."

Any UK/FTSE plays in anticipation of Brexit?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2018 12:50 AM PST

A new survey today (https://www.businessinsider.com/channel-four-poll-remain-would-win-new-brexit-referendum-2018-11) reckons remain would win by 8% if there was a second vote. Interesting, but does anyone think any UK stocks are currently on sale/undervalued due to fear of a 'no deal' exit?

[Serious] How can an average person see Economic bubbles like the few in "The Big Short" without any special accesses?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 10:20 PM PST

Michael Burry had the banks create Credit Swaps because he was able to tell the CDOs had shit mortgages in them. At least in the movie he was able to get access to the On Time payment history and fico scores of those mortgages. How can an avg Joe get hands on that kind of research? Even possible? What can an avg Joe someone do to increase knowledge in moving trends?

    Sysco Movement, buy?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 07:12 PM PST

Just took a look at some of the major movements in market, and Sysco caught my eye. It's down ~9.5% as of market close today. From what ive read, the reason for drop is not so good valuation recently. It's a big company, 2% dividend, but thats not what I'm looking at mainly. It has a good Free cash flow, P/E is ok. What do yall think, wait for the drift then buy into it while its low?

How much do you need to trade to influence stock price?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 05:43 PM PST

The average investor trading, perhaps, in the low thousands or tens of thousands of dollars probably won't affect the stock price. How much volume do you need to do to start seeing prices getting bid up or down?

I've been looking into gold or precious metal iras as a way to diversify from just my investment account and Roth! I also would like to physically own some gold or silver! For someone under 45 is this a good strategy or is there a better method?

    Best investing books

I created this poll to find out which are the best investing books for the sub. You can select as many as you want if you consider all of them equally important or good.

EDIT: I've forgotten important books for sure, feel free to add them in the comments.

    FZROX

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 11:03 PM PST

I am new to investing and still have much to learn. I've spent the last few months researching and planning my future investment plan and it seems my best/easiest option is to open a Vanguard account and continually add money to VTSAX or something similar. Unfortunately I do not have the 10k minimum or even the 3k minimum required to open such accounts.

I then came across Fidelity. Through FZROX and other index funds they offer it appears I can start investing, with essentially the same index funds Vanguard offers, with no minimums or fees...

Is Fidelity too good to be true? What am I not accounting for or seeing by choosing Fidelity over Vanguard? What are your thoughts on Fidelity and FZROX? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have VTIAX, is it better to switch to VXUS?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 10:59 PM PST

I currently hold a little over the minimum account value to hold VTIAX. I notice that if my value drops below 10k (lets assume a market drop or they raise their minimum), I will then have a much higher expense ratio since it will be investor shares over admiral shares. So would it be better to sell my VTIAX shares, and buy VXUS so that if there is a market drop, I don't have to pay higher expense ratios? It seems like there is only a disadvantage to holding VTIAX over VXUS, and no advantage?

Broad US Market ETFs with high options volume?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2018 04:57 PM PST

So I'm interested in trying out a strategy of selling cash secured puts on a broad US market fund. I'm not sure yet how far I'd put the strike price off the share price, but I like the idea of monthly premiums and the potential to then sell covered calls on something I'd be comfortable owning long term in the event the put option is exercised. Unfortunately it looks like all the usual suspects (VTI, SCHB, etc...) all have pretty low options volume. SPY (I'm treating it as broad market for the purpose of this question) has great options volume but I can't put up ~27k to test this strategy. Hence my question: are there any other lower priced broad US market funds with good options volume?
