$29k Student Loan Debt w/ Annual income of $28k A Year

I'm at witts end folks, I've tried Sofi, Citizens Bank, Earnest, Georgia's Own, Common Bond, Education Loan Finance, and Laurel Road. I've got a good credit rating, Citzen's Bank rated it 710 and Common Bond 740. I've never missed a payment but, Navient is killing me with these $500+ a month payments. Every time I apply I'm either denied because of my income or required to have a cosigner. The problem is I have nobody that I use as a cosigner. What do I do?

Help me with my student loans???

    Posted: 10 Nov 2018 11:55 PM PST

I'm new to reddit but I thought I should ask a question thats been burning in the back of my mind for the past several months.

I graduated from my university in May and I knew I had to pay off some loans off a little bit before the grace period will end. Well its almost December and my grace period will be up soon. I checked to see all the loans I have and what the total was for paying them back. All together it is about $38000 in subsidized and unsubsidized loans. I want to pay most (or all my loans off) within 2 to 3 years. The minimum payment that my loan provider gave is about $387. I plan to pay at least 800-900 in biweekly payments (400-450 every other week).

Heres my living situation and why i feel somewhat hopeful... 1. I'm living at home which is rent free 2. I have at least 3000 for emergencies. 3. I dont have major bills to pay (eg phone ) but i do pay for personal things (eg hair care, weekly horse lessons (starting at 30 to 50 per lesson in December), going out/leisure ) 4. No car yet ( want to at least get one once i cut most of my students loans out) 5. I dont spend my money super crazy (or like my mother calls me Ms. Pennypincher) 6. Trying to get a job in my field, biology. ( i had a job agency give me at least 2 good contact job that pay at least 13 to 16 an hour)

The only bad part is currently I work at dominos as assistant manager and want to quit once I find a better/tolerable job somewhere else. My hourly wage is about 9 an hour and my hours per week variety ( eg I'll get 40 one week then less than 25 the next) but usually I work at least 65 to 70 per paycheck. Since I rarely spend money and decided to put at least 850 toward loans and have at least 250 for me towards personal things. If there is advice to give me, i want to hear it or tell me what else should I do to help cut my student loan debt faster. I really want to be debt free ( and possibility the first in my family to be debt free).

    Can't afford IDR Payment

    Posted: 10 Nov 2018 10:32 AM PST

    Throwaway for obvious reasons.

I've been doing IDR payments through Navient for the past three years on about $30,000. Each year, as I've gotten promotions and raises, my payments have gone up a bit, started at $90, and now my last month was $144. In 2017, I did get a promotion with a pay raise that reflected on my taxes for this past year. When I applied to renew my IDR, I knew my payment was going to go up again, but when I went on today to do my budget, my monthly payment is now $320.

I simply can't afford that payment. I'm not some kid just out of college, I have a decent job, but rent (I live in the lowest rent apartments for my area, and moving to a lower rent area is extremely dangerous [Chicago] or would make it impossible to commute to work,) my private student loans, car payment, and other general bills all need to get paid too. I'm not living outside my means, I budget and save for bigger expenses. I made some mistakes when I got right out of school, but I've been rebuilding and stable for the last 5 years.

I'm going to call my servicer on Monday when they reopen to see what my options are, but from what I can see, when you enter into an IDR plan, they choose the one that has the lowest monthly payment. Am I going to be stuck at a payment I can't afford?

    Consolidating PLUS loans

    Posted: 10 Nov 2018 03:24 PM PST

So I am trying to help my parents consolidate their PLUS loans so their monthly payment will be lower. The loans are all in my father's name but their tax return is married-filing-jointly.

If I were to consolidate the loans I am guessing I would have to include my mother's income as well when calculating repayment rates. However, does this mean for the new consolidation loan my mother would also be responsible for it? Currently only my father is responsible for it.

Credit Checks for Graduate Plus Loans

    Posted: 10 Nov 2018 07:57 AM PST

I was approved for a graduate Plus loan back in July and have received three disbursements so far (my school breaks the year up into 5 academic terms). I should receive another one in January but I'm a little worried because I let a $3000 personal loan go to collections. I plan to pay this off by February but how often will the Department of Ed check my credit? Am I set for the next two years since I've already been approved? Is there an annual review? That would give me enough time to clean things up. Or will they check for every term?

    Students Service Center

Has any one heard of this company?

I spoke to this organization about consolidating my loans. I was panicking on the phone, their manager pushed me into jumping into the program.

They said they work with USDOE.

    Student loan consolidation/forgiveness SCAM

    Posted: 09 Nov 2018 03:18 PM PST

Financial Preparation Services received my information, and I was STUPID enough that I thought it was a legitimate financial institution and they have my SSN. The guy changed my online login info, so I had to call Navient and sort it out. Do not trust!!

Also, any advice on how I should proceed with my SSN out there? I have a house with my husband and I need this not to ruin us.
