I'm Bummed Too - You're Not Alone Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:55 AM PDT Just wanted to tell everyone that's I'm sad about how the market has turned. It sucks to see 2 years worth of progress hit the crapper because you keep holding on just one more day, and every call you make lately seems to be the wrong one. But we're all in the same boat together, we're holding onto our companies and riding through the storm. We all lost a lot and we're all borderline depressed. It's going to get better and we all know that, we're just bummed that we couldnt use this to make MORE money because we added more funds on the drop a few weeks ago, but, It's gonna go back, we're still gonna make money, even people who held after the recession doubled their funds 8 years later. That's just tuition to the school of hard knocks. The difference between you and them and you are an active investor who is learning from this experience. Think of how much you will learn down the road from this. Sure you could just hold, but take time to learn about what these past two years has taught you about trading and how much more you've put in the market since then. We're all drained by the upsets this year, but we're also all learning together. That's what this subreddit's for. Hang tight brothers and sisters, we're gonna be better when this is done. submitted by /u/NeoGenMike [link] [comments] |

Anyone interested in starting to invest, but doesn't know where to start. Posted: 29 Oct 2018 07:09 PM PDT Fidelity has a lot of good reading material. You don't even have to have an account. Just download the app, hit the tab in the top left corner, select "learning center" and there is a plethora of information that's well organized and designed. This is like a micro-college course in itself. I haven't checked if it's the same on their website, but I wouldn't see why not. *I do not work for Fidelity, I just discovered this information and thought I'd spread the word. I'm sure other brokerages have similar material. These topics are set up in "exercises", broken down into modules, and reminds me of the template used in something like an intro to economics class, but specific to investing. I learn best by reading, most videos don't really do it for me. If you learn like me, this may be for you. I haven't gotten through all of them (barely got through the first few), but they seem to cover pretty much every beginner question there is. These are the topics: Are You Ready to Invest How to Start Investing Where to Start Investing What is a Mutual Fund What is an ETF Comparing Mutual Funds & ETFs Evaluating a Stock Building a Portfolio Sector Investing Intro to Technical Analysis Common Trading Pitfalls Intro to Fundamental Analysis 5 Step Stock Trading Strategy Managing a Trade How Technical Indicators Work Common Pitfalls for Technical Indicators An Intro to Options Breaking Down a Call Option Breaking Down a Put Option 5 Most Common ETFs Mistakes Margin Trading: The Foundation 6 Options Trading Pitfalls to Avoid If you're like me and don't know what you don't know, this is a good start. submitted by /u/BeezyJ [link] [comments] |
Will the bull market officially be dead come Friday? Posted: 29 Oct 2018 03:54 PM PDT With Apple's earnings report taking place after hours on Thursday, will a miss signal the end of the bull market? I'm not counting Apple out and I'm expecting a beat. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if a miss on earnings is the last domino to fall and pushes the market into a full on crash. submitted by /u/zenitron [link] [comments] |
Significant Insider Trading Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:24 AM PDT This is a list of the top 20 companies that experienced the largest change in insider shares in the last seven (7) days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases. All trades that are marked as part of a 10b5 plan are excluded from this report. Largest Insider Buying (Last 7 Days) Company | Count | Shares Changed | Avg. Down Nearly 50% Tencent Holding A BUY Posted: 29 Oct 2018 07:39 PM PDT https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hjVbL4aCgKA Tencent Holdings (TCEHY) is another significantly undervalued opportunity in the market today. Tencent has seen its stock fall nearly 50% in the past 3 months, most of the fall related to Chinese-American geopolitical affairs and tariffs. Despite the heavy selling in the stock, Tencent could be another great buy after the recent decline. submitted by /u/dmwes4 [link] [comments] |
Significant Activist Hedge Fund Activity (Last 7 Days) Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:25 AM PDT These are the latest Schedule 13D forms filed by activist investors in the last 7 days. Activist investors are investors that make an investment with the intention of influencing management in some way. There is evidence that following activist investors into investments can generate excess returns. Schedule 13G forms, in contrast, are filed by significant investors with no intention of influencing management (such as Index funds). There is always a lot of interest in insider trades, but what a lot of people probably don't realize is that hedge fund activity is probably more predictive of future returns than insider activity. The reason is that hedge funds (a) have large research budgets, and (b) have a choice where to put their money. In contract, insiders have no choice where to put their money, but only when to time their transactions. New Filings This table lists new 13D filings in the last week. A new filing does not necessarily indicate a new position, as investors frequently accumulate in advance before reaching the filing threshold. IBM Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:58 AM PDT Anyone else picking up ibm? The deal with red hat looks to be huge, and I've been a big ibm fan for some time, figured picking it up cheap now would be a good call. Thoughts? submitted by /u/BlazeMcChillington [link] [comments] |

Does getting a loan from the bank and putting it into an index fund, make financial sense? Posted: 28 Oct 2018 11:19 PM PDT If someone takes out a loan of X amount of money from the bank at 6% interest rate and puts it into an index fund such as the Vanguard S&P 500 that has an average of 11.17% return since 1976, then technically, barring a financial disaster (stock market crash, but is highly unlikely) you could essentially make money and not do anything. In theory this makes sense, so why don't all people do this? submitted by /u/ghostzfh [link] [comments] |
