Retail store owners of Reddit, we have some quick questions for you Posted: 30 Sep 2018 12:54 PM PDT Hello r/smallbusiness, We hope this kind of post is allowed, and we hope it is not too bothersome. We are a couple of entrepreneurship students looking to start an automated checkout system business. This system would allow customers of your store to pick up their items and exit through a turnstile without having to wait in a line. Payment would automatically be secured as the customer exits the store. The goal is to increase the efficiency of retail purchases and have customers in and out faster. For our assignment this week, we were asked to interview store owners to gauge pricing and market interest for the product. Unfortunately, we do not personally know any retail store owners; so, we turned to the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are our questions for now. Does a product like this interest you as a store owner? We have been talking a lot about price and we are thinking of a licensing model with an upfront fee. We were thinking about the upfront fee being 10K-25K. Does that sound reasonable to you? What would you be willing to pay? Thanks! Edit: Thank you so much for all of the feedback so far! Since our assignment this week is focusing more on pricing, let's assume for now that this system works flawlessly and is easy for customers to use (no app required, etc). Let's also assume that our product would not require a human cashier in any form. In that case, which price (if any) would be reasonable to you? Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
I've built an editing service for YouTubers and creators. Feedback is appreciated! Posted: 30 Sep 2018 07:24 PM PDT Hey everyone 👋 I used to be a full time YouTuber and over the course of doing so amassed roughly 20 million views and 200,000+ subscribers in the basketball niche. Editing was always a pain point for me as I was required to meet a strict upload schedule for my audience and wanted everything to look perfect. I've since been working full time on Vidchops. It's a service which provides unlimited video editing for a small monthly fee. You provide the footage and requests while we edit it together into a professional looking video. Turnaround time is 48 hours or less and if you're not happy with the edit we'll revise it until you are. The service is geared towards creators and limiting the time they spend in front of a computer screen, however I think it could also existing editors like the people on this sub. I'd love any constructive feedback and hope people find it useful. If you're wanting to sign up I have a 7 day free trial you can redeem by clicking here or visiting www.vidchops.com/special [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2018 02:23 PM PDT So I've been buying/selling a relatively small amount of electronics/lab equipment that I get on auctions and such, I also sell electronics kits that I design and sell myself. For reference, I've done a little less than $2500 in sales this year so far, and if I were to figure in everything I've spent, I've definitely not actually made any profit given that I've bought things that I haven't managed to sell (yet), shipping supplies, etc, etc. My sales are primarily done through ebay. Still, I'm working on doing more sales and hopefully actually making a profit at some point. My question basically is, do I go through the motions of setting up a Sole Proprietorship and all the related legal and tax related things? Or should I just keep tracking what happens in terms of sales/expenses and once (if) I actually start to make a profit, set up a SP at that point in the future? I just don't know if it's really worth it, and wanted to get some input as to what my best steps would be. [link] [comments] |
Why don't more independent retail stores have social media presence? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 10:49 PM PDT Study shows that more than half of independent stores don't have social media presence. Anyone knows why? [link] [comments] |
Building business credit with a new LLC or corporation? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 05:04 AM PDT How is this possible? If I want to start and LLC or corporation not tied to me in any way. How would I go about building good credit for the business? I know that most cards will want a guarantor to open a line of credit for a new business, but won't this then tie my personal identity/social security number to the business which is what you don't want happening? Going to sell at an out of state festival -paperwork help Posted: 30 Sep 2018 12:46 PM PDT Hey all, Hoping someone can help me. I'm a super small Arizona business (we have business license through the state and our city) but decided that we would go vend at Las Vegas Pride (mid October). I know need event insurance but what tax or business license paperwork do I need? They asked for by business license number and the rest becomes my problem. TLDR: Small Arizona company trying to do business in Nevada what paperwork do I need for a weekend of work? Sales tax is scary. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2018 03:26 PM PDT I am a small time, local photographer who kind of does a little of everything. I am concerned that if something were to happen on one of my shoots that I could be held personally responsible. I am looking at changing my sole proprietorship into an LLC. Also along that same vein I don't currently have business insurance just homeowners. Who do you use and why? Any advice would be great and I'm new to this sub so I can't wait to browse for some tips and advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Sep 2018 09:48 PM PDT I have been thinking about starting my own business online based on my hobbies but firstly I obviously need inventory. I also do not have too much capital to invest in it. I just wanted advice or feedback regarding negotiating wholesale deals or special deals to convince a company or wholesale factory or even distributor to sell certain products since I may not be buying as much as an established company but I will be buying in bulk. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Should we pay mileage to business partners, or let them claim it on personal taxes? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 02:08 PM PDT My business partner and I formed a 50/50 partnership. All profit is taxed as flow through income on our personal income taxes. The way I understand it, we can have the business reimburse us for mileage or we can just each claim our mileage as a deduction on our taxes. The amount would be the same either way, but is there any benefit or problem with either option? [link] [comments] |
Best Mastermind/Group Networking for Business Owners Doing $100k+ Monthly? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 08:53 PM PDT Trying to find the best mastermind/group networking to connect and shoot ideas off other business owners with some type of barrier to entry (doesn't have to be exactly 100k+ but a lot of the FB groups and such are filled with Indian spam and such, trying to avoid that) [link] [comments] |
Tiny Houses / New Construction? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 01:48 PM PDT Considering venturing into this domain. I'm a contractor with an okay network of contractors to call upon. My degree is architectural and I have some experience in that field from before I transitioned into construction. Thinking of buying relatively low-value lots within metropolitan city limits, building small houses in the 800-1200 sf range, and then flipping or renting them. Anyone have experience with this? I've got some startup cash but bad credit, so I'll be doing most of this myself and running local crews for the stuff I need help with. Would love to get peoples input or just hear their experiences. This is something I really want to do and I've been reading articles, construction documents, and looking at real estate for months. [link] [comments] |
Help with government contracting Posted: 30 Sep 2018 05:28 PM PDT Hello friends, I have been wanting to get into IT contracting for some time. My main goal is government contracting since there is so much money in the federal on the IT side. I have a registered sole proprietorship under my name for my business that I currently have since 2016. However, I found out that it is better to do a LLC instead. I went in last week and got my business incorporated as a LLC, expedited the process and got an EIN for that business. Now I have had some IT work for my business in the past 2 years but no contracts. I have been working full time for my current company and I picked up a second job a few months ago. I have $10k that I saved from my 2nd job that I want to just invest in my business only and that I haven't touched at all. I learned that I have to apply for DUNS number to be able to apply for government contracts. I went with the process and obtained the DUNS number. They offered some service for $1000 that could boost my business and make it easier for me to start bidding on government contracts. However, I was a little skeptical and the guy said he can do it for $800. I really want to get my feet in the door with government contracting but at the same time I don't want to get scammed.
