Left job over 18 months ago but apparently still covered by their health insurance.. Posted: 30 Sep 2018 06:38 PM PDT Hey All! I resigned from a job over 18 months ago, but apparently I still am covered by their health insurance. The way that I figured this out was by going to the ER for minor treatment. When I got there, I expected to have a small co-pay (as my current insurance requires). They told me that there was no co-payment needed due to having a secondary insurance. When I asked what it was, they said that it was the insurance company I had at my previous job. I told them I am no longer there and that should not be active. They checked and said that it was active and that I had to use it because it was. Anyways, I expected to receive a letter or something once the claim was processed. I did get a letter from the old insurance company, but it was just to say that the claim was approved and paid (what!?). My question is, how is this possible, and do I just leave it alone or tell someone. If I need to bring it up to someone, do I call the insurance company or my former employer? [link] [comments] |
Leaving job and won’t have health insurance for a month Posted: 30 Sep 2018 03:27 PM PDT I'm leaving my job and my ins. expires today. I start my new job on Monday but only become eligible for coverage on 11/1. I was thinking about getting something to cover me for emergencies but it seems that it wouldn't cover much and the deductible would be like 10,000$. I am eligible for COBRA and read that I have 60 days to enroll and that coverage is backdated to the day I lost it. Am I right in assuming that if something bad does happen next month I can just elect to take the cobra and then be covered that way? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Oct 2018 01:12 AM PDT I rented a car from Turo for a personal weekend trip and declined their insurance, relying on my Mastercard rental car insurance as I usually do. I had a minor collision, resulting in a $4000 bill from Turo, and now Mastercard refuses to pay. I'm trying to figure out how to fight this. First they said it's not covered because I'm using the car "for hire". I argued that "for hire" means if I were to transport passengers for a fee, like an Uber driver, which I did not do. Now they've switched to saying it's not covered because I rented from a private individual rather than a rental agency. This doesn't make sense to me. Although Turo doesn't own the car, I signed a contract with Turo and I paid Turo for the rental. I never made any contract with the car owner. I've heard some traditional car companies lease vehicles instead of buying them, but I can't find any proof of this. This would refute the argument of who must own the vehicle. My Mastercard benefits terms do not specify who must own the vehicle, and they do not define "rental agency". To make matters worse, I suspect the collision shop went a little nuts replacing some parts that didn't need to be. So I've asked to keep all the old parts, which is a required option in California, but since I didn't ask them before authorizing the repair, and I'm not the car owner, I don't think they will give me the parts. I did notice (too late of course), Turo's FAQ warns that credit card insurance companies might deny claims. Wish I had seen that before. When I called Mastercard for the first time, as soon as they heard the word Turo, the claims rep told me this will be tough, since they always deny Turo claims. I think that a blanket policy of denying claims for a specific rental agency is fraudulent, since it's not written in the terms of service. [link] [comments] |

Charged for dental visit after confirming insurance should have covered it all Posted: 30 Sep 2018 01:22 PM PDT About two months ago I went to the dentist for a cleaning and discovered I had two cavities in my molars. I have never had a cavity before, so before making an appointment to get it filled, I called my insurance to see what they would cover. I explained the situation to my dental insurance and they confirmed with my dental office that it would all be covered by my insurance. When I went in for my dental visit, before getting the treatment, I re-confirmed that it should all be covered. The receptionist said it was, so I took her word on that. After the appointment, she said it was all taken care of and that I was good to go. Now, I have just received a bill in the mail for $70 bucks because I got "composite resin or acrylic restorations" and my insurance plan only covers "amalgam restoration". I'm a little taken-aback because I never requested anything special and confirmed with both my insurance and dental office that the fillings would be covered before going in. I didn't even know there were different types of fillings. $70 bucks isn't the end of the world, but I am wondering if I have any recourse here. Were the composite fillings deemed necessary by my dental office after the fact? Why would they do them without asking me first? I have only had good experiences with this office in the past (granted, I've only ever had cleanings done here) so I don't want to think they did anything malicious, like over-charge for an unnecessary add-on, but I do wish they had told me beforehand. I would've said to just do the amalgam fillings. For the future, what can I do to make sure this stuff doesn't happen to me again? I thought I did my due diligence by confirming with both insurance and dental office that everything would be covered (both via the phone and in-office before getting the work done). Will it effect my term life insurance if I move from the state in which I started my policy? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 08:59 PM PDT We currently live in Alaska and our shopping for a 20-year term life insurance policy. We know we won't live in the state forever and wanted to see if we would have to get a new policy once we change States. is it anything like health insurance I guess? [link] [comments] |
Could removing after market parts off my car be considered fraudulent? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 03:01 PM PDT I recently got into a car accident, going through the usual claims steps, and have an appraiser (?) coming to look at my car soon. I'm 80% sure the car is totaled. I have 2 12" subs, after market rims, brand new tires, and some suspension/motor upgrades. My husband has kept all the OEM parts, so everything can easily be replaced back to the way it was when we bought the car. My biggest issue is with the wheels because I just spent $1,200 on rims and tires not even a month. I want to keep all of my after market things and put everything back together like it was. Would this be fraudulent in anyway? EDIT: I never reported my upgrades to my insurance company. As far as they know, I have a stock vehicle. That may have been a bad on my part. 🤷🏼♀️ [link] [comments] |
I have full coverage, but company says I can't get a rental through them as its not on my policy? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 08:48 PM PDT I have MetLife Auto. I have comprehensive and collision. MetLife reps on the phone said they cannot extend rental benefits to me as its not on my policy. I am annoyed by this because when getting the policy, I asked for full coverage that would also include a car rental. I am wondering if anybody with experience dealing with or working at insurance companies knows if they will become more accommodating if I hammer at them over the rental car issue, or if they are stubborn about these things. Should I report collision with road debris to my insurance? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 07:43 PM PDT I'm not even sure what the next step is. About an hour ago, on 95 in Philly, some bales of what looked like chain link fence shot out from under the truck in front of me. They were rolling, bouncing and sparking so I think I did I pretty amazing job not crashing into any of the cars in the other lanes and only clipping part of one bale. I made it home before checking out my car. It's dark, but it looks like the only damage is to some plastic parts of the bumper that need to be popped into place/reattached. I'll have it looked at properly in the daylight. What's the next step? Do I have to make a police report? Do I just get it fixed then send a claim to my insurance? Not sure how to proceed. Hypothetical questions about hazards from a pre-licensee Posted: 30 Sep 2018 11:31 AM PDT I am working on my pre-licensing course for an all-lines claims adjuster license. I have a tendency to overthink things, and since my course is entirely online, I have hypothetical questions about the things I've learned so far. I'm learning about hazards, exposure, and fraud at the moment. My question is this: Could behaviors of one's spouse (or perhaps another immediate family member like children or parents) be considered a hazard for the insured when the family member is not part of the policy? For example, a health insurance policy only covers Spouse A, but Spouse B has a criminal history, drug/smoking habit, or a severe mental illness like schizophrenia, all of which could affect the health and safety of Spouse A. Would these constitute hazards that would affect A's premiums/coverage, and could not disclosing B's behaviors/condition constitute concealment, since the policy is only meant to cover A? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 09:18 AM PDT My friend told me that State Farm (and only State Farm) has a policy where every family member is covered in the car insurance as long as he/she lives under the same house. I am about to be 21 in couple of months and the only reason I don't have a driver's liscence is because I can't pay for the insurance. So does someone knows anything about this and how can I claim it? My mom and sister have state farm car insurance and are on the same plan, they did call their agents for me and they claimed "They don't know anything like this exists." From what I know (this hasn't yet been confirmed), state farm's policy is something like this - They will not add me to the plan for free, but if i get in an accident unfortunately, State farm will cover expense since the car is insured; also, this policy is only for new insurance recipents (or new state farm recipents something like this) Does someone know more about this? Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated. Should this post have been made on some other sub reddit? [link] [comments] |
Securian life ins. through employer conversion Posted: 30 Sep 2018 02:43 PM PDT I have a life insurance policy through employer, but I am quitting that job, and I wondered if any one knew if Securian will convert this policy, or if that is not something they do. [link] [comments] |
Progressive Credit Card Payment Fee? Posted: 30 Sep 2018 01:51 PM PDT Hi All, I have progressive and I have had my monthly payments on EFT from my checking account for a while. I'm getting a 2% cashback credit card, and I'm curious: does paying with a CC incur an additional monthly fee from Progressive? [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance claim on damage I caused Posted: 30 Sep 2018 12:45 PM PDT So when I got my truck it came with this 6 inch wide chrome trim all along the bottom of the truck. It's aftermarket and I hated it, so I peeled it off. Jesus Christ! It took the paint off in several places on both sides. I though it'd be a simple fix so I got a few quotes from paint and body shops to fix, planning on paying out of pocket. Jesus Christ again! They ranged from $2300 to almost $4000. Could I file? Should I file? What should I say? [link] [comments] |
