Next steps for my idea: Import Item from Vietnam to Sell in USA? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 12:18 PM PDT I went to Vietnam on holiday, and bought a small item for all my friends. [Deliberately being vague]. They all LOVED it. The item cost $1 USD, and is made out of fabric. It's pretty and elegant, and is multi-purpose. The design is floral, so probably for women. Other firms sell a functional, non-pretty version of this item for $10 in the USA. What are the next steps a) to see if my idea is financially feasible given costs of shipping, b) to see if there's a market for buyers? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How can i invest in a Youtube content creator? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 01:25 PM PDT Hey guys, this might seem ridiculous but i wanted to get your thoughts. I am subscribed to a few Youtube channels that currently have between 5-15k subscribers each. The videos they create are unique, intelligent and well edited. I can already see them reaching a million subscribers within the next two years. Hypothetically, if i wanted to invest in the future potential success of these channels, is there any way for me to do so? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 07 Oct 2018 11:54 AM PDT I get this question occasionally, it slightly annoys me because it's hard to explain that if I fail, I'll just move on and continue trying something else. None of my peers really seem to understand. I'm curious what others in this subreddit answer to this? [link] [comments] |
Quick question about selling wholesale to retailers. Posted: 07 Oct 2018 10:40 AM PDT So my wife does embroidery and seamstressing in her spare time for fun/some side cash. Recently she was contacted by a store in our area that sells things made by local artists and craftspeople, they expressed interest in selling her embroidery hoops in their store and to let her know about her wholesale prices. Obviously we're both very excited by this, but it's a new venture for both of us so I've got a few questions about wholesaling in general. I know the basic principle is cost of materials plus however much the creator decides to pay themselves for labor, but I'm wondering if it's normal for there to be some kind of negotiations on the price the creator gives. I guess that's really the only question I have, but I'd love any advice you guys have to help us navigate these new waters. [link] [comments] |

Spent a little over 500k and 1.5 years developing an app, how can I sell the source code? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 01:17 PM PDT Hi guys, a little back story. In June 2017, my college roommate and I dropped out of College to start an on-demand delivery app. We hijacked our college funds and dabbled in the market for a bit to get some starting cap. At some point we also raised 250k post MVP and dumped it all into dev and ops. We got some descent traction, about 10k users and 60k in gmv within the first 6 months with practically no marketing spend and just growth hacking. However the food delivery game sucks, the unit economics are atrocious, and it's very capital intensive, especially a 1099 model similar to the ubers or the doordashes. Essentially we didn't want to burn through all our money in hopes of getting vc funding, so we came to a pivot using our API and going b2b with a new model that doesn't involve a consumer facing app. The reason why I am even trying to sell the source code for the app itself is to raise more $$ for my current business which is a 3pl (3d party logistics) The app itself is really clean, we had some great retention (about 60% growth MoM for monthly actives) and a low CAC of about $4. The metrics were good, we had the demand, even the drivers were staying on board more than the industry averages for driver turn. You can literally repurpose the app/api to function in many different uses cases. For example an e-commerce store (we pivoted at some point and were selling our own bulk inventory through the app) so you can list your own inventory, upload pics/prices. You can also use the app if you're a restaurant, or if you want to start your own delivery business. We hooked up the foursquare api, or you can upload your own custom menus if you're a restaurant. There's also a driver facing app where you can assign drivers for the order and route them to the customer, or simply ship the order to the customer if you're an e-com store. We can rebrand everything for the business and offer support obviously, etc. We also have our website that's also hooked up with the API so all the inventory or whatever it is you're selling through the app, customers also can add items and checkout/pay on the website. Here is the tech stack: -RESTfulAPI -React Native app with Flask (Python) backend. -React website connected with the API - Freelancer facing app Features include: -FB log in/signup -Stripe Payments/payment logic -Google API/Directions API -Browsing categories, adding items to cart, checkout, payments, contact support, etc. -Post checkout routing consumer facing so you know where your order is like on Uber map and can contact freelancer. You can checkout doordash, or Wish or any of those apps to get an idea of what our app is like. Anyway my question is where is the best place to sell the source code, we can obviously brand everything/custom inventory for the customer (e-com store, restaurant, or a delivery business) How do you usually go about selling the app/api/ or parts of the app. Any tips or advice is highly appreciated, thanks guys! Taking advantage of a busy tourist town? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 08:54 AM PDT My town has experienced a noticeable increase in tourists over the last 5 years, mainly due to our artisan foodie spots & local attractions. I've looked into artisanal foods but they've just about all been done already. What are some small town business's that take advantage of high tourist traffic? [link] [comments] |

Amazon Affiliate/Youtube Marketing- what are actual good resources? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 11:53 AM PDT I know that amazon affiliate websites are the newest fad entrepreneur model, but I think I have landed on an actual niche that is underserved, I have expertise in, and could create a brand that offers actual value instead of relying on scammy tactics to drive traffic. I'm currently working freelance in politics, so my revenue situation after Election Day is murky. What I have been planning on doing for the last year is spending the political off-season finding biz dev opportunities in summer camps, where I have a decade of experience and connections. My current thinking is that I could approach a camp and offer 3 services:
The Youtube channel I create with the reviews of the camps will also have reviews of products for camps. Camp directors buy huge amounts of new equipment every year, and need to know from another camp person what is quality and what is going to be a waste of money. I think I could build trust and credibility with that audience pretty quickly and move products through affiliate marketing to some success. I freely admit that I know very little about how Amazon Affiliate marketing works, but it seems to me that this could be a viable revenue stream as well. Parents want to know as much as they can about camps, so I'll have access to viewership. Youtube's younger viewers will also be seeking to learn more about the camps they'll be attending, or looking for places to convince their parents to send them, so I truly think there's a traffic stream I can build. Here's my question: Can affiliate marketing be set up for any product? What are the best resources to learn how to set it up? Is there anything I don't know that I should? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Oct 2018 11:37 AM PDT I kind of want to start earning money, but I don't want to go work at a normal job at a supermarket or something (in my country you can work at a supermarket at 15). I mostly need the money to get some tech items i want to buy, and if I'm really successful, maybe turn it into an income later in the future. Im looking for a way to make some money online (meaning computer + internet) and something which I can occupy my free time with (something which can be repeated but doesn't require 5 hours non-stop). P.S. No, im not searching for a get rich quick guide because I know that can't happen (meaning im willing to invest my time to redeem income) Regards, 17 [link] [comments] |

Suggest me some good American groups for startups? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 09:48 AM PDT |
Starting up a server-hosting service, good choice or nah? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 03:33 AM PDT I'm starting this off as my first venture with a little capital in hand. Most of the people I've consulted with, says that the hosting market is oversaturated with mediocre sites/etc or just isn't completely reliable. So any thoughts on this issue? Notes; I'm also going for a gaming server hosting (allowing players to play online for fixed time periods at a price), along with other server necessities [link] [comments] |

Reverse incubator - what will happen to us? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 06:30 AM PDT First time posting (sorry for the poor formatting).. my team and I are currently competing for a start up pitch competition in our university, hosted by a 'reverse incubator'. Winners will be awarded an internship position (this is not confirmed). Hypothetically, let say our business idea was great enough for them to take it under their umbrella, what will happen to us ? Are we entitled to anything? The competition is very unorganised and it feels like they are just ripping off uni students. Is this worth participating on ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Oct 2018 05:19 AM PDT So if you want to contact someone to maybe work out a deal, but don't want to risk them just taking the idea and doing their own thing without you, and thus becoming competition...what do you do? Any tips and input are appreciated, even if there isn't "the one solution". [link] [comments] |

Is translation a unique/original content? Posted: 07 Oct 2018 02:37 AM PDT Hi. I own a translation blog that translates online celebrity news articles and comments from another language to English. There are a few other sites like that. I do add links to the original article that is in its original language. But since I'm getting around 90k views for the past month (my third month doing this and I'm really enjoying this along with my readers), I'm thinking if I could monetize it with ads. I have tried Adsense and my rpm is around $0.07. As mine doesn't belong to popular niches like food, business or tech, it's pretty difficult to find information about it and to monetize it. I'm looking into ad networks and thinking of moving away from Blogger platform. However, I do worry that my site doesn't qualify for reputable ad networks because of its content. I worry that my site isn't too profitable when it comes to affiliate marketing too. Is it better forget about monetizing a site like this or simply just stop doing it? I look forward to hear your valuable advices! Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Looking for an electronic paper cutter. Posted: 06 Oct 2018 06:42 PM PDT Does anyone know of a machine that will cut paper with precision in half? Just a 8.5x11 100 lb stock paper in half. I'm having a hard time finding something affordable and exactly what I need. I keep getting die cutting machine results. Looking for just a quick single cut to split the page.. Thanks!! Posted: 06 Oct 2018 10:21 PM PDT Does anyone here have any experience with running a dry cleaning pick up/drop off service? i.e. a service that picks up dry cleaning from your home and drops it off...say a week later? I have never seen a service like this personally, only services which pick up/drop off from your office. Personally, i would much prefer it picked up from my phone so i dont have to lug clothes into my office, but im not sure how others would feel about this. [link] [comments] |
